He sat in the middle of a restaraunt, wearing his gigai that was clothed in its usual attire. He was tasked with going to the world of the living to retrieve an item that one of the others had oh-so-brilliantly dropped while expirimenting with a portal kido, and was much too inept to retrieve. Well, to be more specific, a hawk flew through the portal and hit them in the head, knocking them out while also leaving massive gashes. In hindsight, if the kidoshu still wore those goofy hats, his skull probably would've been safe from needing to be healed. Oh well. Too late, the guy's unconscious, now.
While Mitsuoki was given the exact location that the item was dropped, he knew that it would most likely have been displaced. It was dropped from a pretty high altitude, so it wouldn't just drop straight down. Since it would take him time to figure out where it fell, he decided to visit the nearest city to where it dropped and enter a restaraunt to taste their food. It was a place that the humans spoke quite well of, saying that their deserts were simply the best in the city. Since Mitsuoki was a fair chef himself, just how good their food was would be put to the test.
Mitsuoki had been seated at a booth next to a window where he sat alone. On his leg was a small, baby red fox that was curled and and completely asleep. It had been a little over a week since he'd gotten it and the creature had seemed to have gotten used to him. At the same time, he had gotten more attached to it over the course of that time. He looked over the menu with the same cold but elegant gaze he normally had and seen many things he wanted to try... If only his gigai had a bigger stomach.

Since mastering her own ability to jump between worlds, Shiro had begun to frequent the human world more often during Theo's absences. She didn't always have a reason, nor did she think she actually needed a reason to return to the world she'd actually been born into.
Today she was in the middle of browsing the town for fun and enjoyment. Browsing stores, watching the newly released Movie drama that'd come out. Intentionally avoiding the snacks and condiments of the theater, the girl now approached a restaurant she'd been meaning to try out since she'd last seen it in passing. It boasted a great selection of quality foods and even ranked near the top rated among restaurants with desert options considered too good to pass up.
She entered, a small bell chimed to announce her entry, followed by an employee greeting in response. "Hello miss. Just one today?" The hostess asked as Shiro walked over the threshold. "Yes please." Shiro respectfully replied. As she'd heard the place was one leaning towards fanciness, she'd chosen to wear a black dress and hat adorned with a matching black ribbon. It was one she'd obtained about a week ago, and at the recommendation of a Shinigami no less.
The hostess brought her to a table near the center of the restaurant, setting up a menu for Shiro to browse. She inquired to the girl's choice of beverage before leaving Shiro to examine the menu's many select options. She'd unknowingly been seated not more than one table over from Mitsuoki. The Shinigami sat at the adjacent table facing the girl's back. There was much to this view that Mitsuoki might recognize with the set of clothing and the one who wore them.
"What is a soft drink?" Mitsuoki muttered under his breath while looking at the beverages. "Iced... Tea? That sounds terrible... What even is a milkshake?" he said shortly after, again, muttering. The fox had begun to stir and lifted her head to begin sniffing the air. Mitsuoki looked down and asked "What's wrong, Akane?" just before the fox moved to the edge of the booth and jumped off to run off to somewhere behind him and begin pestering a certain patron by sitting on her foot and letting out a high pitched bark of sorts. Mitsuoki looked behind him and began saying "I apologize for her, she's-" his words cut off as he looked at Shiro, who was wearing the dress from their last meeting, along with a black ribbon.
For the time between than and now, he had seen nothing but people in black kimonos. He fell into the same brief silence as when he first saw her in the dress. Mitsuoki.exe has stopped responding, shutting down malignant program, rebooting from last known good configuration. "Shiro, I did not expect to be seeing you again. How do you do?" he said, rather than continuing his apology for Akane's behavior.

"Hm...?" Shiro set the menu down and looked to her feet where she heard the barking. It was then she noticed the noise was coming from a young fox. "What's a fox doing here..." It was when she heard the voice speaking to apologize for the fox's behavior that the puzzle pieces clicked into place and she looked up. Her eyes met with Mitsuoki's. "...It's you!" Shiro blinked. Once. Twice. She'd given up on trying to find the Shinigami about three days ago. It was a funny thing how when she stopped looking for someone or something they usually showed up when she was least expecting.
"I've been fine. You seem to be doing well... I see you've still got the fox. Did you name it?" Shiro greeted Mitsuoki, starting at the end when she picked up on the fact Mitsuoki had given the critter an actual name. "Didn't think I'd see you again so soon." Shiro lifted her menu pretending to look over the list of entrees while purposefully neglecting to include the fact she'd actually been looking for him.
Shiro peeked over the menu to Mitsuoki who held his now pet fox named Akane. "I can't believe you actually chose a fox over me..." Shiro placed her menu flat on the table in curt irritation. Anyone listening in might easily misunderstand the meaning behind Shiro's words. "You said there was no way to take living things with you without killing them... But from what I can tell, that fox is still very much alive." She accused, though her tone carried no significant emotion behind it. She'd actually forgotten to ask Mr. Rose about Mitsuoki. She couldn't find the interest to be truly annoyed with Mitsuoki when she was equally annoyed with herself. Shiro chose to keep quiet and surprise her teacher with the new technique she'd developed once she'd actually gained access to Soul Society. She was fairly certain that was the only way she could bridge her ability and make it capable of taking her their on her own... "She's gotten bigger" Shiro noted, getting up from her table and moving over to the one Mitsuoki had been seated at.
Mitsuoki had watched and followed Shiro with his eyes as she moved to sit with him at the table before commenting on the fact that Akane had gotten bigger since they last met. "I suppose she has, though, not by much." he replied. Shiro was quite observant to notice that the fox grew at all, even if it was a very minor growth. It would be something that Mitsuoki would remember for later. "Also, I never once said there was no way of taking living beings with me without killing them. I said that there were various methods by which one may enter the soul society without forfeiting their lives. I also said that I am not at liberty to disclose such methods without risking a great deal of potential punishment, including, but not limited to forfeiting my own life. Taking this fox in is a lesser crime than taking a human. This fox is incapable of processing the complexities of death, and is highly unlikely to be capable of reporting information to the soul society's many enemies. You are human and, while you have not given me any reason to distrust you, are in fact capable of both of those things. At this current juncture, it is beyond my capabilities of convincing my superiors that you are as trustworthy as you seem. One could say that they are... xenophobic. Perhaps one of the denizens of Las Noches can assist you in finding relevant information? None of them have much of anything to lose by provisioning such knowledge."
Mitsuoki looked at his menu and said "Shiro... there are several things on this menu that I am unfamiliar with." he looked at her with curious eyes and asked "What is a soft drink? Is there a hard drink? What is a milkshake, and how do they avoid causing the milk to form curdles when they shake it?"
Post by Shiro Inazuma on Sept 25, 2018 19:55:08 GMT
"I understand your concern..." Shiro sighed. Mitsuoki's explanation still sounded to her like an excuse. She'd never been one to foolishly give away people's secrets, but to some degree she understood the issues Mitsuoki had with her wanting to go with him. She'd already decided to drop her efforts to force Mitsuoki's hand anyway. Shiro was more interested to know why Mitsuoki knew Theocelese and what kind of connection the two actually had.
Finding Mitsuoki's ignorance of popular beverage options funny, Shiro stifled a laugh as she moved in over the Shinigami's shoulder and responded to his inquiry. "Soft drinks are bubbly drinks flavored in various ways. They have an interesting sensation if you're not familiar with them but taste quite good. Milk shakes are like a super soft serve ice-cream and you can even drink them through a straw." Shiro physically pointed out the flavor options on Mitsuoki's menu for both types of drinks during her explanation. "I'm thinking of getting a strawberry parfait myself." Shiro's finger moved over to a different section of the desert menu which listed parfaits and the different fruit and flavor options that could be ordered.
Shiro returned to an appropriately distanced seat at Mitsuoki's table. The waitress arrived and asked if the two were ready to order. She didn't seem bothered by the fact Shiro'd switched tables, likely because both tables were in her area anyway. Shiro looked to Mitsuoki, indicating he should order first. She didn't want to be rude by being the first to place an order at his table.
He listened as Shiro explained what these things were, finding them strange to think about. A drink that was 'bubbly' and carried fruit flavors, and a drink that was essentially ice cream that you can drink. The first one made Mitsuoki question if it was like actual fruit juice with bubbles in it, and the second made him wonder why people let ice cream get so warm that it was drinkable. Looking at the menu, he found it highly unlikely that this was the process for the latter. The soft drink being described as 'bubbly' had made Mitsuoki think of soap bubbles, but that was absurd. He couldn't think of that being worth making a beverage from, and he doubted the humans had different taste from soul reapers. Shiro had shown Mitsuoki a parfait, which seemed to be a treat consisting of fruit and yogurt. He nodded while looking at it just before Shiro had shifted back over to being a little further away, and Akane had taken up residence in the space between them, curling up and resting her head on her paws.
Mitsuoki had reached over and gently ran his fingers over the tiny creature's back, earning a gentle tail flick from it. Just as he did this, one of the waiting staff had come over asking if they were ready to order. Shiro had looked at Mitsuoki, as though signaling him to go first. A quick second glance at the menu revealed they lacked a coconut flavored milkshake, which was slightly disappointing. "I will have a vanilla milkshake, coconut cake, and some raspberry soda." he said while glancing at the menu, only picking up on the name of the 'soft drink' at the last second. "Desert before the main course? You'll ruin your appetite, you know." the waitress said in a lighthearted tone. Mitsuoki replied "Perhaps, but I seem to have a bit of a sweet tooth today." the waitress replied with "I see, I'll tell the baker to cut you a larger slice then." She was smiling, as though she considered it a source of joy to be serving them. Mitsuoki knew it was a facade, which was slightly irritating, but not so much so that he would change demeanor. The waitress had looked to Shiro for her order.
Once the waitress had left, Mitsuoki had resumed running his hands over Akane's back. "You appear to be the only female that she tolerates. One of my roommates has already learned to keep her distance."

"I'll have the strawberry Parfait please." Shiro told the waitress after Mitsuoki was done ordering. She decided to go light on her desert. Too much would ruin her appetite and she still wanted to enjoy one of this restaurant's proper meals.
At Mitsuoki's words, Shiro's eyes drifted to the resting Akane. "Really? That's actually quite adorable!" The girl smiled, resting her chin in her hands. Some people might see the act of having her elbows on the table as a rude gesture, but with this cute creature's apparent acceptance of her, Shiro couldn't really be bothered about what others thought in the moment. "Well I'm glad she's not mad at me for thinking she was a boy when we first met." Shiro joked.
After a long moment staring at Akane, Shiro sat back in her seat and shifted her gaze towards Mitsuoki. "So... Last time you ran away before I could ask any proper questions about it but, how is it that you know of Mr. Rose?" Shiro held up a hand to keep Mitsuoki from responding too soon before continuing. "And about the name you used for him when we first met... Please refrain from using it while you are in this world. Mr. Rose seems averse to being addressed that way while he is here." She emphasized Theocelese's alternate alias to make certain Mitsuoki got the hint.
From the time he saw her, he should have expected that Shiro would ask about his and Theoclese's relationship. He was about to open his mouth when Shiro had held her hand up and told him to address him by a name that he would never address anyone who hadn't directly told him to use. "Acknowledged." he said in a cold tone. "First, I am going to tell you that I am not my peers. I do not care for the soul society's war with the quincy, issues with the bounts, and skirmishes with arrancar. The only enemy of the soul society that I will ever kill are true hollow-- beasts that are so overwhelmed by their desire to consume that they cannot be reasoned with. They do not know restraint in their consumption. Anything else, I refuse to kill." he paused and looked at Shiro in the eyes. If she weren't facing him, he would be looking where her eyes were supposed to be.
"I say this because I can easily tell that, as civil as he is, he is not the person who can be faced if you do not intend to kill him. If he and I were ever enemies at any point, I would be dead. And believe me, there is no 'soul society' for dead shinigami." Mitsuoki turned away and pulled up the menu to begin looking at the proper food items. If Shiro had been paying attention, Mitsuoki had called Theoclese a 'person' and not a hollow. "Judging by how heavy the remnants of his spirit pressure are on you, I would assume you two spend a great deal of time with each other. I would advise asking him, and trusting whatever he tells you. However, just as I do not hate and battle all of the soul society's enemies, you do not have to hate and battle his. If he considers me his foe, then that is the truth. That does not necessarily make me your foe. That is all I will say on the matter."
The waitress returned with their order. The restaurant didn't have an excessive amount of people and both orders were extremely simple to complete, so it got done fairly fast. After the waitress stepped away, Mitsuoki had looked at the shake and even turned the straw in it a couple times, commenting "This is considerably thicker than I had expected..." he then put his lips to the straw and took a drink and said "...but it is not bad."

Based on his explanation it sounded like there were circumstances revolving around Mr. Rose's involvement with Mitsuoki... If Arrancar were derived from Hollow, and Mitsuoki hunted hollow, then she could understand a little bit why a Shinigami might not look to Theocelese in an overly positive light. Shiro was really starting to think that her relationship with an Arrancar might actually be hindering her from any real answers Mitsuoki might offer... Hell this was even the answer he'd given her... Ask Theocelese. Though she did notice he refrained from using both his name and the one she'd told Mitsuoki he aught to use...
Come to think of it... Shiro wasn't really sure what she could talk about with this guy besides topics like the fox or continuing to try and acquire answers from him... "So... Aside from your work what exactly is it you enjoy doing?" With nothing better to ask, Shiro set her sights straight on going personal. It was a bold leap and one that could be easily avoided if Mitsuoki didn't want to say, but it was a line thrown and Shiro didn't have any other lures to make use of. "I mean, this doesn't exactly look like something you're supposed to do while on duty..." Shiro stated, bluntly indicating the restaurant they sat in the middle of. "Was becoming a Shinigami a choice you made or was it something decided for you?" A question following a question. She was curious but it might have been more appropriate to ask one at a time...
Shiro had changed subjects from the relationship between Mitsuoki and Theoclese to asking about the soul reaper's personal life. There was no one who could dictate how he would respond, other than himself. "I do not know." Mitsuoki answered. It wasn't him being coy or vague, it was true. "While not on duty, I find other things to occupy my time. I cannot tell you that I enjoy art or music or other things of that nature, because I simply do not know. I cook sometimes, as a way of-" he stopped, realizing that he was about to get into something he constantly tried forgetting. His eyes had became sad as the very beginning of the memory creeped its way into his mind. His hands tightened to fists. "Nevermind. I enjoy work. That is all."
She had also asked about whether he decided to be a soul reaper or not. "As for my becoming a soul reaper... I had two choices. Become a soul reaper or die of hunger. You see, normal souls do not feel hunger. Humans who die become hollows because of the loneliness, hatred, sadness, and other negative emotions that consume them and turn them into glutinous beings. Young hollows eat to fill a void. Older hollows, like the one from last time we met, eat out of fear of regressing back to a weaker form. However, when a konso is performed, the soul is transferred to the soul society, where they can be safe from becoming a hollow."
Mitsuoki paused and took a breath. "The exception to souls not needing to eat, is when a soul is particularly powerful, capable of using Kido or Reiryoku like you and I. These souls will feel hunger, as their body requires spiritual food to replace the energy it consumes. Before I became a soul reaper, I could not control my spiritual pressure. I constantly released energy, and required more food as a result. I had to learn to fish, and even then I sometimes passed out from my hunger. I went days or sometimes weeks in pain... I did not have the luxury of buying food. So, I decided to become a soul reaper. After I made it into my unit I had food, a safe place to sleep, and got paid- all for a few acceptable conditions. The tale is similar for many others, but not all." Through the entire story, Mitsuoki's tone had been the same. Cold, calm, level, and containing not a single shred of pain- unlike when he was talking about his hobbies or lack thereof. "And what of you, Shiro? What do you enjoy doing, when not talking to arbitrary soul reapers?"
Post by Shiro Inazuma on Sept 27, 2018 6:40:28 GMT
Shiro listened closely... then pouted disapprovingly as Mitsuoki chose not to go into depth about his personal interests. The girl mistook his claim of knowing for an excuse to simply not tell her. How guarded was this guy? Could she not actually get close enough to him to talk about things normally? Sure she'd only spent one afternoon with him in the past week but still... Shiro was beginning to feel a little discouraged...
He switched topics... While she wasn't particularly happy about this fact, she listened just as closely as before. "I knew the hollows had a strange hunger drive but I didn't realize even regular souls could become hungry..." It was news to her, though not entirely unbelievable. Based on these facts it seemed like the hunger the spirits felt was based on the conditions of their spiritual existence. It kind of made Shiro sad to think the hollows had to eternally suffer from the kind of hunger they had to endure while those fortunate enough to get to Soul Society were blessed with a hunger that was at the very least, manageable.
Dipping her spoon into the Parfait, Shiro took a moment to enjoy the desert she'd ordered. The flavor could be said to be in a class of its own. She hadn't had much in- no that thought was wrong. It paled in comparison to some of the treats Theocelese prepared and they were obviously better than anything the restaurant could likely come up with, but it was still quite a delicious treat. "This is good! you should try some." Shiro offered her Parfait for Mitsuoki to try. It was intended for her but appeared it was intended to be shared as the parfait itself included a second spoon which sat partially embedded into the opposite side of the desert.
"I dunno if I should say..." Shiro shrugged, teasing Mitsuoki by pretending to consider whether she should tell him or not. "To be honest what I mostly do now is train myself to become stronger. After some incidents and Mr. Rose taking me in I figured it would be best if I can get to a point where I don't need to rely on him all the time. Other than that I like to watch animated shows, but it's not easy doing that where I'm living now so I haven't really been able to catch up on the latest episodes." Shiro went quiet, She was only sixteen but thinking about it... her life hadn't really amounted to much as of yet. By now if Mitsuoki had tried and returned her parfait, she would take another bite of it, savoring the strawberries and creamy flavors of the ice-cream.
"Do you have TV shows?" Shiro's question came out of the blue after a pause to partake of her parfait. Las Noches didn't have anything like channels or satellite TV so watching anything other than the recordings Theo had wasn't really possible. It would be interesting if Soul Society had something like TV to watch considering it was supposed to be a world of spirits.
No reaction was given when Shiro stated that she didn't know that a plus could experience hunger, it's understandable that she wouldn't know that information, there was no reason for her to know it. After she tried her parfait, she commented that Mitsuoki should have some. He reached over and took the second spoon and used it to eat a bite of the treat and nodded at it. Yogurt was uncommon in the soul society since it required refrigeration, meaning that one would have to get it fresh if they wanted it, and eat it before it expired in a couple of days. This one was flavored, not like the fresh yogurt. Vanilla, the flavor was distinct, originating from a flower from the plant with the exact same name. The strawberries created a gentle, but contrasting flavor that was pleasant but not overpowering. Mitsuoki had noted the flavor so he could attempt to recreate it later.
Shiro had begun her answer by saying she was unsure if she could say, though, he tone was different. She was joking with Mitsuoki? The soul reaper raised an eyebrow while taking is second bite of the parfait. She had told him a very basic overview of what she was doing in Hueco Mundo. She had mentioned that some incidents had lead to Theoclese taking her in. 'This girl lives in Hueco Mundo with Theoclese? I had not thought of arrancars to be so selfless as to take humans under their wing... Animals normally take in other animals of differing species, so it is not impossible to occur, but what circumstances would cause it? What of her human parents? Are they-' Mitsuoki stopped his train of thought and quickly said in his mind 'It is not my place to ponder, it is not my place to care.' He slowly passed the parfait back to Shiro when she reached to take it.
Mitsuoki had blinked with a confused look as she asked if they had TV shows in the soul society. "I... am hard pressed to report we do not have such items. I... actually have not the slightest idea as to what they are. If you would not mind explaining?" There were some reapers who did know about them, but Mitsuoki wasn't the kind of person who did. He didn't take any down time to lounge about, so he was never exposed to it. If Shiro had explained what television was, Mitsuoki would say "I see." Regardless of her response, he would turn his milkshake around to reveal a second straw while sliding it to Shiro. "It would seem that the cook had anticipated us to share. Would you like some?" he asked, offering it to her. Obviously, the original intent was that they would drink at the same time, but Mitsuoki had no idea of such a thing, nor did he know that it was considered a romantic action. "Vanilla is not my preferred flavor, to be entirely honest. I prefer coconut. It is salty and sweet at the same time. It is not so subtle that one requires copious amounts to notice it, but not so powerful that a single drop would dominate other flavors. What of you, Shiro?"
Post by Shiro Inazuma on Sept 27, 2018 11:21:54 GMT
The differences between the human world and Soul Society were beginning to stack up... With Mitsuoki's response she effectively eliminated the possibility of it being a tech oriented modern society. And based on the weapon she'd seen Mitsuoki carried and the official attire he adorned himself with, Shiro believed it could be safe enough to view his origins as a place that was "getting there" but not quite up to par with the modern times.
In response to the Shinigami's inquiry, Shiro pulled out her cellphone. "TV's now are a much larger version of these kinds of screens." Shiro indicated, noting the display portion of her cellphone alongside a common size comparison using her hands. "They pick up signals similar to how these devices do but what they pick up is more like pre-recorded visual shows. Depending on the channel you are on, what you get to see will be different." Shiro explained the details, hoping that her simplified and cellphone aided example would help Mitsuoki picture what a TV was.
"I'd love to try it! Thanks." Shiro took the milkshake and the offered straw and took a sip from the cold beverage, the romantic implications of the product's presentation eluding her in much the same way as it had Mitsuoki. Savoring the sweet vanilla flavoring of the milkshake, she almost regretted having gotten the strawberry parfait. "Do you mind if we switch? The strawberries in the parfait are good but they're a bit more tart than I would have liked..." Shiro sheepishly asked Mitsuoki, inadvertently answering his question by revealing her appreciation for sweet things. She wouldn't openly admit it, but for her, super sweet foods were to die for. From the opposite end of the spectrum, extremely bitter foods were on Shiro's list of things to avoid.
Shiro had stated that the strawberries in her parrfait were a bit too sour for her, which contrasted Mitsuoki's opinion. Granted it was somewhat tart, it was contrasted by the sweetness of the yogurt, which was part of the appeal of the dish. It wasn't too big of a deal for him to trade with Shiro since he liked both and he said "Very well." and gently took her parfait.
While eating the parfait, Mitsuoki had begun thinking about the last time they met, and what had been said today. She's training so she can stop relying on Theoclese, but she wanted to go to the soul society to thank one of the Hirashi's for helping her. Her opinion of her personal abilities is that they're lacking and even though she has an arrancar's spiritual pressure all over her, she would waltz into a place with people who, if all at once attacked, would eventually overwhelm and kill her sensei. Shiro hadn't come across Mitsuoki as a complete fool, nor did she come across him as reckless, either. "Shiro, I would like to make an inquiry." he said calmly after swallowing a bit of the parfait. He paused and looked at the dish before saying "Disregard it. It is not my place in inquire."
He took another bit of the parfait and his slice of cake had arrived, with a second slice of cake on the side that was given to Shiro. Were it any other country, one could assume that the waitress was working for her tip; but, tips were generally bad practice in Japan. It was an insult to the store owner since it implied they underpaid their workers. It was also an insult to the worker since it's expected of them to give top quality service at all times, some places taking the word 'service' to the furthest extreme just to keep their customers happy. Mitsuoki didn't pay it any mind when the girl smiled at them and said she'd be back in a little bit to check on them. "That was nice of her." Mitsuoki said while taking a fork full of his cake. "So, you prefer things that are sweet?" he asked.
Post by Shiro Inazuma on Sept 28, 2018 8:40:47 GMT
"Please don't do that..." Shiro shot an irritated look at Mitsuoki when he told her to never mind. "If you want to ask a question then ask the question. Let me be the judge of whether or not I want to answer it." The girl waggled a finger at him. A gesture which suggested she did not approve of his cutoff. "Besides, now I really want to know what it is you were about to ask." Taking a draw at the straw, Shiro took in more of the shake while continuing to stare at Mitsuoki. She wanted him to ask the question. More than anything she was curious to know what it was he even wanted to ask her and no matter how small it may have been, it would, bother her not knowing what his inquiry would have been.
"Incredibly so!" Shiro's eyes beaming in response to Mitsuoki's question about her liking sweets. "And the sweeter something is the better! In fact, the first time Mr. Rose brought me-" Shiro held up her hand, stopping herself while blushing slightly. She'd been about to say 'the first time Mr. Rose brought me home with him' She'd seen the misunderstanding happening before she'd spouted it... "Let me correct that. What I meant to say is that on the first day when Mr. Rose rescued me, we had these sweets that were so good I had to hide some away for later while he wasn't looking. They were super sweet and super delicious! ...Come to think, I swear a couple of them disappeared before I got a chance to eat them..." Shiro started to become lost in thought, making a mental count of how many of the sweets she'd hidden away in her room. Had Theocelese seen her take them and stolen them back she wondered?
Mitsuoki had let her scolding go right over his head on purpose. While she could be the judge of whether or not the question would be answered, he would be the judge on whether or not he felt comfortable asking it. Or at least, that was his line of thinking. Of course, he also acknowledged that he shouldn't have spoken at all if he wasn't fully committed to asking it.
THe conversation was switched over to Shiro's preference for sweet things, with her even implying that her tolerance for sweetness knew no bounds. She started telling a story about herself and Theoclese, but cut off for some reason, earning a confused look from Mitsuoki. His lacking sense of romance had prevented him from piecing together any possible word combinations that would lead him to believe she were implying a romantic relationship between the two of them, and even if there was one, it would make no difference at all to him presently. While Theoclese seemed to be on the older end of the spectrum, he and Mitsuoki were dead, age was literally just a number used to record how long they've been able to avoid being killed.
Mitsuoki had listened to the story about some sort of mythical treat that were so legendary that Shiro felt the need to stash a few of them away, so she may savor their divine taste at a later time. Then, she ended up getting lost in thought and began trailing off. Mitsuoki didn't say anything to regain her attention, at first. He took a couple more bites of his cake, taking time to understand the flavor and, what caused that flavor. Mitsuoki had remembered that Shiro hadn't known about advanced pluses getting hungry, which lead him to ask "Shiro, how much do you know of the spiritual world? I can tell that you're receiving training physically, but I wish to know of your training on an educational level."
Post by Shiro Inazuma on Sept 28, 2018 20:35:03 GMT
"My education...?" Shiro would have thought Mitsuoki referred to her school education if it hadn't been for the fact he'd mentioned the spirit world before asking. In truth Theocelese would probably have been an open book of information to this regard if she'd shown enough interest in it. Thinking about it now, Shiro realized her primary goal had been training herself to become stronger. It'd never occurred to her to educate and actually learn more about what the spirit world was about. "Uh... well..." Shiro blushed. This was embarrassing, to think she would be pressing Mitsuoki, a Shinigami, for the answers she sought when she could have just done so with Theocelese who'd actually told her before that if she wanted she could ask him anything about whatever she wanted to know... "It's so so..." Shiro smiled. It was a half smile which indicated the girl either wasn't getting all the information she desired, or that she'd failed to properly take initiative with the opportunities allotted to her.
The girl took another drink from the milkshake. By this point it neared its end as the waitress returned to inquire about whether the two of them would like to order an entree or side to go with their deserts. Looking at the menu, Shiro picked the chicken ramen special with a side of honey oat bread. In her embarrassment she forgot to allow Mitsuoki first choice in the ordering process.
Her response that told Mitsuoki that she had given no time to familiarizing herself with spiritual entities. The waitress had come to take their order and Shiro had gone first. Mitsuoki then said "I'll have the pork ramen with melon bread, two dongo, and a taiyaki please." The waitress confirmed the order before taking the menus and going to put it in. Mitsuoki then turned his attention back to Shiro and said "Shiro, strength without direction is useless. While you are receiving training to become a capable fighter, you will need to know about the world which you have entered. I am able to provide you with information, if you wish? My method of doing this would be far different from just sitting around and bludgeoning you with seemingly arbitrary trivia."
If Shiro said that she would like him to teach her, Mitsuoki would say "Very well, then. After we finish eating, I will take you to learn of our common foe. 'Our' being the foe that the Hollows and Soul Reapers share, that is." If she said that she didn't want him to teach her, he would say "Very well. I shall respect your decision." and leave it at that. While waiting on a reply, Mitsuoki would be taking chunks out of his coconut cake.
While he didn't specifically think of them as his foe, specifically, the quincies were at war with the Soul Society and had attacked Las Noches at a point, making an enemy of the arrancars. They had been killing hollows for centuries, making them a default enemy of them, too. Mitsuoki didn't want to directly tell Shiro about them since it could be a biased description. He had a plan to get an actual quincy to talk.

"Strength without direction? Who says I don't have any direction? My goal is to get stronger to be able to protect...People... Since I've obviously failed at it before..." Shiro stared solemnly into her milkshake, moving the straw around to stir up the foam which remained. "But I guess it wouldn't hurt to know a bit more about all this spirit world stuff." Shiro pushed the empty glass toward a vacant edge of the table. She'd take up Mitsuoki's offer. Why not, it wasn't like she could press him for answers to questions she wanted answered if he didn't want to give her that information. At least if he were willingly giving her information she could likely learn some things she didn't already know.
"Common foe? If you're talking about Hollows then I think I already know plenty about them... Although... I guess there might be things about them I don't know yet..." She was about to write off the Hollow knowledge as already known and dismiss it but thought better of it. She knew the Hollows were spirits who wore strange masks, had holes in their bodies, and an unusual curse-like hunger that tormented them into insanity... But beyond that she couldn't say she knew much about them... Then it dawned on her what Mitsuoki had just said. "Take me there...?" Shiro raised a curious eyebrow. What did that mean? Take? Was it like a library of knowledge about the spirit world or something?
