A new year was on the horizon, and people were filling the streets with rowdy, raucous celebrations. Dozens, perhaps even hundreds of people filed through the plaza of Karakura town, some drunk on their friends' presence and their good luck, some simply drunk on alcohol. They wandered along, dreadfully unaware of how close they were to death itself...he walked among them, standing completely straight, and making sure never to touch them on any unclothed part. The humans were nudged, crowded, and corralled so subtly none of them even thought to fight against it as they moved further and further away from their buildings. They were heading towards the darkest sections of Karakura...the areas where stories arose of furious ghosts walking the streets. Most of them were beginning to split off, each returning to their homes as the chill of the atmosphere struck them. But roughly twenty of them were too drunk and too riled up to care. They shoved each other, joking and laughing, and daring each other to do increasingly more foolish things in this harsh, dimly lit realm.
Yaksha watched with bemusement; did he even have to herd them anymore? It was getting foolish, with how these humans all drove each other and even themselves further and further forward, towards the maw of some waiting beast. It reminded him of crab buckets; he'd seen it only a few times, but it was a sobering thing to watch. Such small, dim beasts...freedom waved right in their faces, and what did they do? Every single crab, every damn one of them dragged every other crab back into the bucket. A crab, slighted in its attempt to leave, slights another...and in the end not a single crab was ever allowed to leave. Every single other one would simply grab them and yank them back in, all but demanding SOMEONE share the same fate. The humans were exactly the same; as soon as one of them showed doubt, never the same one, all the others would jeer and prod and taunt them, until retreat was simply unthinkable. It was like they knew this was stupid, and they refused to be the only stupid one...it was almost sad to watch.
"Keep on walking, children. They'll be here soon enough...and it'll be suppertime."
Once upon a time there was a little girl who died in a cold northern village surrounded by the plague. Upon death there was no heaven waiting for her, no pearly gates as she was promised, instead there was a land full of strange people speaking a strange language that more than anything else resembled the dark tales of the foreign heathens secretly whispered through out the village. Now, there is more to her story than just that, but in time that little girl grew up and the dramatic difference between the world she knew while alive and the one she found herself in while dead eventually lead to a life long love of all the cultures of the world in that girl.
New Years in Japan was an event with few equals, and as the first New Years since she returned from her extended mission Bea wasted no time volunteering to take the extra shift patrolling the human world. As nice as it was to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere she was still mindful of her duties and it was as such that Bea first spotted the Yaksha.
The crackling embers of Bea's reiatsu was not suited to stealth and she generally did not bother. The first Yaksha would notice of her would be the feel of her reiatsu. The second would be the sound of music, that year's Kōhaku Uta Gassen playing from a small portable radio hanging from her belt. She stood on thin air behind Yaksha with a foul look on her face.
"Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, The sea barrier surges, March on to the south! Hadō #31 Shakkahō!" She said without preamble firing the kido at the hollow. It wasn't particularly meant to hit, instead just drive him away from his prey and, if he dodges, loudly strike a nearby trashcan in hopes of startling the humans and send them scattering.
Without a word she draws her red nodachi-esque blade and takes up a fighting stance.
Name: Hadō #31 Shakkahō (Shot of Red Fire) Class: Kido Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Medium (30m) Incantation: Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, The sea barrier surges, March on to the south! Description: Fires a ball of red energy the size a head a x5 Cero Speed at a target.
Name: Gathering Lights Concentration (T3 version) Class: Weapons Mastery Tier: II-III Type: Defensive Range: Self Description: Focusing their mind, the user enters into an enlightened battle trance, gaining the ability to move their blade in the way of deadly attacks with supreme agility and nigh superhuman speed. While active they can move their blade at (T2: Bala, T3: Half-bala) speeds to parry attacks, gaining tier defense against any such attacks. They can even parry non-solid or energy attacks with this; for example splitting waves of water so they don't get wet. Lasts up to (T2: 8 / T3: 7) This can't be used to benefit attacks in any way.
Yaksha didn't even turn his head, still keeping his gaze on his targets. The children continued to move as a group, each one jostling and joking with the others. Yaksha felt a surge of disappointment as he realized this girl, had she gotten her way, would've ruined this pleasant night for everyone. It was a girl, no? He couldn't exactly spare time to turn and examine her, not when he was trying to find the exact moment to strike. He simply rose one hand into the air, making an ever so faint chopping motion that seemed to end far too quickly. A bare twitch of the hand, as if he were ordering a waiter to stop pouring wine.
As soon as he did, his shadow seemed to spring to life, flickering across the space between them and reaching up into the sky with elongated inkblot hands, eyes like black scrawls as its jaws opened, a thick tongue escaping. He still didn't turn, didn't even wait to see if his binding had succeeded. He couldn't estimate how far away she was, not by the sound alone, and to break sight with his target would've been...simply silly. He'd have to try and make a guess as to where she was aiming, then. It was a well-established fact that any strike to a hollow's head would almost always end up being fatal...but doing so from a distance was nearly impossible, under most circumstances. And from her tone and the immediacy of her attack, Yaksha could only assume she wasn't aiming to cripple. A killing blow, then. He rose his hand into the air, twirling it in a small circle above his head, the flesh and muscle in that area seeming to shrivel and retract even as it moved. But her attack went wide, hardly even close to his hand. Her attack smashed into his hip, sending him toppling to the side and elicting a sharp bark of surprise and pain. His tail lowered, and he used it as a lever for a split second to hold himself in place as he flicked his gaze towards her for just a moment, and exhaled. Already, the wound was beginning to heal over and recover, but he couldn't let another attack like that go through uninterrupted.
At that, it had apparantly managed to topple over a trash can, leaving the children glancing around in a faint panic, looking more confused and curious than upset just yet. But if this went on too long, they'd scatter...and that could only end badly.
He exhaled, his voice one of strained patience as he rose a hand, clawed fingers waggling as the life returned to it. Quite literally.
"More concerned about their safety than killing me. It's nice to see you have your priorities straight. Don't worry; before you ask, I don't plan on dragging any of them into this. Fight all you like, and rest easy in the knowledge that your opponent has the basic decency not to prey on that...rather glaring weakness."
Description: The user shoots reiryoku into their own shadow, pulling it up around them like a thick, dark, slightly transparent blanket, hence the name. This is among the absolute fastest of all Hollow techniques in execution speed, being used for a last minute defense against fast attacks, such as Bala. One of the only weaknesses of this technique is that while the user is shielded with their own shadow, so too are they incapable of moving, until the shield is broken or dissipated by the user. The user is also capable of using this shadowy cover to trap an opponent at half bala speeds, using the target's shadow. The shadow can only rise up 7 feet from the ground to engulf either the user or the target, however once it comes in contact with what it is meant to cover, it can stretch over even the largest Gillian.
Name: Contort
Class: Release
Tier: III
Type: Supplementary
Range: Self
Description: Yaksha's own body is as malleable and flexible as a snake's, allowing him to contort his body and alter his form in seemingly impossible ways. Those with a strong understanding of reaitsu are able to notice he literally shrouds his bones in reishi, making them near-viscous, and allowing him to fit himself into areas no larger than his torso, or to travel through places thought impassable.
Name: Shed Skin
Class: Release
Tier: III
Type: Defense
Range: Self
Description: Primarily used as a defense against upcoming attacks, Yaksha is able to focus reishi to a portion of his flesh, effectively causing it to slough off even before the attack lands. He's able to avoid being burned, poisoned, or even damaged by the impending attack. It's essentially useless against enemies who outspeed him, unless he already knows where they plan to strike.
Name: Regeneración de Velocidad Alta [High Speed Regeneration]
Class: Hollow Technique
Type: Passive
Range: Self
Tier: I
Description: Powerful Hollows have been shown to possess incredible powers of regeneration, specifically at the adjuchas class. This ability allows for the regeneration of most body parts with the exception of vital organs and the head itself. The ability is dependent on reiatsu and cannot be maintained indefinitely, likewise, one cannot completely regenerate from fatal wounds unless give uninterrupted time to fully recover the damage dealt.
Reflex takes over where thought fails. At the sight of the flickering shadow flashing between the few pools of light provided by whatever illumination remained in that back alleyway Bea automatically stepped back and upwards to dodge the attack, even before she realized that the shadow WAS the attack itself instead of being cast by whatever the hollow might have thrown. It fell short though, and it would still have fallen short had she not moved at all.
It was a bluff then, and the Hollow's words after... He was playing with her. There was a moment of doubt, of fear at facing an unknown opponent, but it was quickly quenched underneath the focused calm of her battle trance. She still had a job to do. Though others might prioritize killing the hollow, to her protecting the innocent humans was the most important. To that end a plan was quickly formed.
"I am not sure you would have the time to worry about what advantages you could or could not take..." She said in a calm, steady voice that none-the-less carried, "Crimson Flame Inscription..."
Whirling lines of bright fire sprouted like vines from her grip on her sword, quickly growing along both the blade itself and across her body.
"Ember Petal Dance..."
She vanished in a step leaving only floating embers to mark where she was. Two more steps, each more marked by the embers left in her wake instead of her actual presence, bring her close enough that with one more step she'd be within melee range of the hollow. She didn't bother to try to hide this. Indeed, the menace in her reiatsu would be almost impossible to miss even with his back turned to her, but her goal wasn't, after all, to kill the hollow.
Instead of taking the step that would take her within melee range of the Hollow she stepped past him, flickering into existence between the hollow and his prey, her blade stabbing down at the ground just as the markings along it ignite into flame.
"Shedding Red Blossoms."
The humans would not be able to see the pillar of fire that erupts from around Bea. They would, however, be able to see the chunks of concrete get blasted away from the attack with a crack like a bomb going off. Hopefully it would be enough to cause them to flee. For the hollow the flare would be worse. The sudden bright flame right in front of his face after the cool darkness of the night would be blinding if he looked at it straight on.
Bea, with her eyes closed to perverse her own night vision until the worst of the flames passed, would then swing her sword up as she broke into a charge at the hollow, proceeding her own attack at the hollow with a wave of blistering heat.

Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps. Auto-gained for Shinigami at ML.
"Oh will you two cop the fuck on!" A rather irate voice would sound out through the area. As a shadow descended on the column of fire Beatrice had brought forth. If either of them looked up they would see a hooded figure flaring off a Reiatsu signature that would be somewhat familiar to the Hollow, but foregn to the Shinigami.
What they would both note however. Was that fact that the strength of this individual was without a doubt, captain level. A small flash of blue light could be seen around the young Quincy's hand as his faithful bow was called into existence. Not missing a beat, the bow was pointed at the pillar of fire and the trigger was pulled. Letting loose a brilliant beam of white light that fired straight down, extinguishing the flames with barely a hint of effort on their part.
Landing with an audible crack in the pavement below him. Liam's eyes narrowed. With another flare of power, a second beam of light would be fired at the Shinigami in order to ward off her attack. Where the light hit, her own power would fade. An equal force clashing with it and canceling it out completely. But no harm would be done. For the technique used was a pacifist's wet dream. Something quite capable of shutting down opposition, but without causing undue harm.
Of course it would do nothing to stop the Shinigami's charge. And Liam would not impede her in the slightest. Even if she went right up and tried to cut him in half. Mostly because her sword would be stopped dead by the teen's Blut activating. The veins on his body becoming prominent as he drew in Reishi in order to make his skin stronger than the toughest metal.
Liam stood there between both Hollow and Shinigami regardless of how Bea acted. His hood thankfully obscuring his features from any onlooking humans. But Bea could probably see his face rather clearly. And the scowling look plastered on it indicated he was less than impressed.
"Do the words "Collateral damage" mean anything to you?" He shouted out, arms angrily waving at Bea. "Seriously! If you are going to fight someone, at least have the decency to do it in the air, or go somewhere private."
...Was that what he was annoyed about? Not that Bea and Yaksha were fighting, but that she was causing a mess of it? It was certainly an odd set of priorities. But it was either that, or Liam was just trying to be annoying.
{Techs}Name: Cleansing Thunderclap Class: Quincy Style Tier: III-IV (III) Type: Defensive Range: 50 Meter Radius/ 100 Meters Description: Pulling the trigger on his pistol, an eruption of charged Reishi surges out from Liam's body or the barrel of his bow at cero speed. Doing no damage to others. This technique is designed to work against other forms of techniques such as illusions, defenses, poisons and other offensive techniques. Canceling them out at greater or equal advantages. At lesser advantages, their effects are simply weakened.
And there it was again, the woman trying ever so hard for such an exceptional result, to attack with such overwhelming power, such incredible force. What was it about shinigami that led them to fight with tooth and nail, to play so very dirty? They always insisted hollows were the monsters, the bad guys...and yet he'd only ever really seen the shinigami behaving in an equally repugnant behavior. This was insanity, plain and simple; she was fighting for no reason he could figure out. Was this hatred? Anger? Was she truly being so irrational that she wouldn't even try to assess the situation before she jumped right to violence?
He rose his hand slowly, prepared to respond with a decisive counter, to smash her to the ground and undo her antics. She wished to smash the earth, so the earth would smash her. He opened his mouth, prepared to speak...until a sudden white light appeared, engulfing her flames and causing them to disappear immediately. Even her weapon's flame was doused, her zanpakuto left little more than a hunk of metal. He rolled his eyes, turning to look at the newcomer...and pausing for a split second. The child he noticed looked quite familiar, even sounded the same. But his spirit felt remarkably more profound, deeper and stronger. He let silence fill the area for just a moment or two, before he finally rose from his slouching posture, his hip finally reformed well enough for him to stand on it again.
"Liam."
His voice was soft and smooth, cautiously smug. There was the smallest, faintest hint of disappointment in his tone as he turned, but he stood tall and straight, his muscular form flexing as he rolled in a motion remarkably close to a bow.
"Where's your pet, today? Is she letting you roam freely now?"
The sound of the pavement cracking like a shotgun shot was startling enough, but more than anything it was the guy landing on the pavement like he was superman or something and then yelling at the... air? that got through the drunken haze surrounding the group of college aged student's minds and sent them fleeing with various exclamations of "Oh shit!"
Bea however had more pressing matters to attend to.
She noted the strength of the newcomer's reiatsu the moment he revealed himself by yelling. Not Hollow. Not Shinigami. Strong. She was also well aware of just how out of position she was. She was too far into sending the wave of fire at the hollow to abort without putting herself even worse out of position, but it turned out to be pointless anyways. One shot from the newcomer blew out her pillar of fire while a step followed by a second beam took out the wave of fire, tracing back to wipe clean the inscription along her blade.
With the newcomer's arrival her original plan of pressing the hollow was no longer viable, but the risk of him making a move on the humans when he noticed them fleeing was too high as well. However the newcomer was a new variable to the hollow as well.
To that end she stepped backwards and up into a defensive position to cover the human's retreat while relying on this new unknown, or rather evidently known to the hollow judging by how it called him Liam, to potentially help muddle the matter long enough for the humans to flee.
Of course, following that train of thought... Even as much as Bea was aware of the quick burn of her Ember Petal Dance, talking seemed a better tool here, "I am not sure what it says that your primary concern is collateral damage in a case such as this."
Her eyes cut back from him to the hollow, "...Or that a hollow knows your name."
"Still," She admitted cocking her head, "If introductions are the order of the night, I am Beatrice Mari Solange Belrose of the 1st Division and my partner," A tap of her thumb on her zanpakuto indicated that was what she was talking about, "Is Crimson Lotus. You?"

She could feel the tension in the air, along with the culmination of reiatsu that went with it. Normally she'd stay put in the pawn shop at this time of night, but things seemed to be more fun on the outside. So, like any good teenage girl in their rebellious stage, she snuck out. She jumped quickly from roof top to roof top heading in the direction of the reiatsu she could feel. There were three different signatures, one belonging to a hollow, one to a shinigami and the other was... different, stronger than both the other two. She wasn't quite sure what it was, it felt human, but not quite.
This interested her, it was a reiatsu she'd never felt before. It was different and she wanted to know more about it. The golden haired beauty quickly dipped down to the ground level, she ran quickly through the streets of Karakura. Anyone that saw her running would probably assume she was some olympic athlete or a freak of nature with the way she quickly ate up distance with each stride. She felt the source of the reiatsu she was sensing getting closer, as if only a few more steps would allow her to reach her goal.
Still in her excitement she kept a clear head. She wasn't hundred percent sure what kind of situation she was walking into, but she knew if anything were to pop off, the chances of her making it out in one piece was very low. She'd need to be cautious and stealthy, assuming she was skilled enough to hide her own reiatsu to the extent she would need to. Still she did her best to conceal it. She knew she had a somewhat large range that her reiatsu still passively leaked out even as she tried to hide it, so she'd need to be careful not to get too close until she knew what was happening.
Soon enough she stumbled upon the three individuals that were drunk running by her, they were making a commotion about some explosion and the ground blasting into pieces on it's own as they blew pass her. Well she supposed now she knew she was most definitely on the right track. Not too long after passing the drunk men she saw what she was looking for. The other individuals standing in a three way stare down. She came to an abrupt stop, now wanting to drag attention to herself she hopped behind a building leaning against it as she peered around the corner at the odd trio. A hollow. A shinigami, and what seemed to be a human. This was definitely what she had been searching for. She watched and listened intently, hoping to find out what they were up to. Not like it involved her, but she did like to know what was going on in her city at all times and what better way to find out information than a little bit of spying.
Switching from scowling to smiling at the drop of a hat. Liam spun on his heel to grin back at Yaksha. "Well of course. I'm a big boy now. Cant you tell?" With a small waggle of his eyebrows, Liam pulled his Reiatsu back into himself. It had served its purpose in catching attention and hopefully halting any conflict before it truly began.
Thankfully the appearance of someone stronger than both parties was enough to stop them from escalating the situation. It would certainly be annoying if a fight broke out so close to his house. He certainly didnt want the Old Fart wandering in on this. Knowing the Elder Quincy. He'd just exterminate them both without a second thought.
Here's hoping Liam could stop this before it ends with someone's death. "Nice to meet you Bea." He chirped in an overly friendly tone that could be considered slightly condescending depending on one's point of view. "You've already heard Yaksha here name me, so there's no need for further introductions."
With the easy grin still on his face, Liam wandered towards Beatrice, stopping just a few meters from her. "I just happened to be in the area when I noticed some commotion going on. So, as a resident of Karakura Town, I just have one small request of you two."
And just like that, the smile dropped. Leaving Bea confronted with the icy stare full of contempt for both her and her organisation. "Leave. And don't let me catch either of you causing trouble around here again."
Turning his head around, Liam leveled the same stare back at Yaksha. "Since Yaksha finally put on his big boy pants and became a Menos. He knows that humans don't offer him much in the form of food. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was just messing about. That way I wont have to play jump rope with his spine."
Switching back to Bea, Liam's smile returned. However this time it lacked any previous warmth it had before. "I also hope I dont have to leture you about the many dangers about picking a fight in such a populated area." He chimed, holding up several fingers and counting them off.
"Accidents, taxpayer money for repairs, an angry Hollow if you lose. Oh and lets not forget the occasional spiritual awakening."
He let the last part hang in the air as he stood there. Still staring down at Beatrice, waiting for her response.
"You, Liam, are the proverbial fly in the ointment of life. Everywhere I go in this wretched town, it ends the same. Some god of circumstance or luck has seen fit to link our fates together. I will never be rid of you, much like your father will never be rid of those cold sores or those Christmas Party photographs. I can go on all day, and it'll all be basically the same: Butt out of affairs you don't understand. My god, did you forget how our last meeting ended?"
Yaksha's clawed hands flew up in the air, eyes rolling in a telegraphed gesture of frustration that was almost comical, and was perhaps all the more dangerous due to how out-of-place it was on such a hulking monstrosity's frame. But all the same, the beast continued to quietly seethe, before he perked up ever so slightly, head tilting to the side as if a dog that had just heard a high-pitched whistle. He grunted, raising a hand into the air, one claw extended, and his voice turned almost pained, as if being polite was an actual literal force of will at that moment.
"On that note...shall we bookmark this conversation? For just one moment? It seems my meal has finally arrived. Always count on delivery."
He disappeared in a crackle of static, moving directly upwards, and scanning the surrounding area with wide yellow eyes, finally settling on his target after just a moment; an enormous puffball appeared to be rolling after one of the terrified humans, the ones that Beatrice had provoked. This would've been a simple snatch-and-grab if not for her interference! Why did everyone have to get involved in things on the fly, and assume that they'd be thanked for it? Did they honestly expect him to lay his head on the chopping block and pretend to be -pleased-?
He ground his jaw together, launching his hand down towards it, causing the flesh to run and melt as he did, an oddly unsettling sight...as it formed into something remarkably similar to a hangman's noose, cinching tight around the head of the hollow and yanking it into the air with a squeal of protest. It began to soar through the skies towards Yaksha and the others, and trembled furiously, waving back and forth as it gave out some squeaks of protest and anger. Yaksha glanced down at Beatrice and Liam, before taking a bite out of the hollow's leg, crunching and snapping it down as one would a potato chip.
"Your claims of guardianship would be more effective if they did not come on the heels of the people in your turf being used as mere bait on a night that they should be safe to enjoy in the company of their family and loved ones," Bea snarked glancing up at Yaksha's feasting. Still, with the humans out of danger she let herself relax slightly.
Hmmm.... The humans were out of danger. The hollow was busy eating. The human, Liam, was clearly the priority but he seemed to be more interested in arguing than fighting. It seemed safe enough for her to let the markings of her ember petal dance fade away. To relax her battle trance was a more questionable action, but the effect it had on her was undesirable in this situation. With a slow exhalation the tension fades from her shoulders and her face softens.
"Anyways, I'm on special assignment due to the holiday, so you're kinda stuck with me for the time being," She said replacing her zanpakuto on her back and fiddling around with her radio to turn up the music, though after a moment her eyes cut sharply up to Yaksha, "And since it's a holiday I'd rather not fight so long as you don't threaten humans though I will be keeping a close eye on you."
"Um.... now let's see if I did this right...." She muttered descending back down to ground level. A moments thought lets her pull out a thermos from elsewhere, unfortunately, as it turns out, she did not do it right. The thermos was crumpled and bent. It still poured well enough, "Punch anyone? Sorry, I don't have tea. Never was that fond of the taste."
Training: Name: Heavenly Magpie’s Nest Class: Kido Tier: III Type: Supplementary Range: 100m dimeter Incantation: It does not have an incarnation, but it requires drawing special symbols on the thing to be affected which takes about the same time as using the incantation. For things that the user can physically lift the user can just trace out the symbol with their finger, but larger objects require the symbols to be drawn on or around it, traditionally with ink. Description: Once activated this technique banishes the targeted object. While banished it can’t be affected in any way except to be summoned back by the owner. It can be summoned with merely a thought, but then if the user wants to banish it again they need to draw the symbols again. Userful for Zanpakuto which might otherwise be unwieldy to carry around.
(Note: If anyone objects to me taking advantage of the thread to sneak in some training just say so and I'll edit it out.)
Hikari watched on intently as the situation became more... docile. At least so she thought as the group conversed amongst themselves. Then suddenly she felt the presence of another hollow. Though before she could even react to it the other hollow that was already present was on top of it, sonidoing into the sky and using the newcomer as a toy and his own meal. Curiosity ate at her as she observed the hollow above her, something about him seemed pretty familiar. She just couldn't put her finger on it.
She couldn't really hear what they were saying, but she wasn't sure if she could get any closer without being found out. Then again if she didn't, this would all be for naught. She gritted her teeth and stepped out from behind the building, golden eyes scanning the area cautiously out of habit. It didn't seem like they were watching her. At least not that she could tell. She darted from where she stood across the road heading to another building that was closer, trying to bring herself within ear shot.
She noted that the shinigami had also put away her blade, this really confused Hikari. From what she knew, weren't the shinigami supposed to hunt hollow with extreme prejudice? This picture before her was wrong in so many ways she didn't know how to begin explaining it. Though the oddest one there was the human, he was the one that had been exuding the largest amount of reiatsu so far. She was curious as to who and what he was. She wanted to get closer, but with the hollow floating around above her, she wasn't sure if she wanted to chance making another move.
Her eyes went from the hollow in the sky back towards the the other two before her. Where she noticed the shinigami had pulled out a... "A thermos?" What the hell was this? These people who as far as she was concerned should be enemies, seemed to be on pretty good terms. Though Yaksha had explained to her that one needn't follow the stereotypical behaviours of their race. Perhaps this was one of those situations.
Liam's eyes took on a more amused glint as Yaksha began his little rant. A rather lengthy one that attempted to make out Liam as some everpresent threat that loomed over him. Foiling the Hollow wherever he went. With an exageratted gesture. Liam held his mouth to the side of his face, mock-whispering to the Shinigami near him. "I'm honestly amazed I get this kind of greeting from someone I met only once before. I mean, I can hardly ignore a bunch of people throwing down so close to my own damn house."
He shook his head at Beatrice calling him a guardian. "I'm not a guardian of this town. You'd be thinking of my upperclassman. The one with hair worse than mine and enough Reiatsu to kill us all with a funny look." He shrugged, now leaning slightly back as he stared up at Yaksha currently chowing down on his true prey. Such an act was hardly surprising. After all, he did the same thing the first time they met. "I live in this town. It annoys me to see non-residents decide to fight when they have two separate fucking dimensions to do it in instead."
His face seemed to brighten into something much more genuine at the sight of Beatrice seemingly giving up any hostile intention and instead offering some refreshments. Only for his head to whip around as something tingled his senses. Something close to human, but not quite there. Much stronger than the average human as well. Roughly as strong as he was when he first came to this damn town. "I'll take you up on that in just one moment." He spoke back to Bea, still rather distracted and looking around. And just like that, he vanished. But it was not a simple stepping technique. In fact he just outright vanished in a flash of bright light.
Reappearing right behind Hikari in the same flash of light. There was no motion to follow. No steps on the ground to hear. Liam simply disappeared and reappeared in a literal instant.
"Hello there. Rather rude to to eavesdrop like that. Wouldnt you agree?" And just like with Beatrice. There was no outright malice or hostility in his voice. Just a simple conversational tone with a hint of curiosity.
{Spoiler}Name: Soul Warp Class: Reishi Tech Tier: I-III Type: Teleportation Range: 50-100 Meters Description: Transmuting his entire body into light, Liam becomes capable of warping his position instantaneously to anywhere within 50 meters at a moment's notice. Any further distance requires a brief moment of concentration and has a tendency to go off course if he is distracted at the last second.
Yaksha rolled his eyes ever so slightly, his hands folded over his chest as he sighed. Of course Liam couldn't be expected to understand hyperbole and theatricality in this moment. He inhaled slowly, taking another sizable chunk of flesh out of the hollow he'd managed to capture, gulping it down with wanton excitement. Yes, this was exactly what he had spent so long hoping for; the hunt, the kill, the spectacular sensation of meat sliding down his gullet. He almost felt himself growing intoxicated, could feel his mind shutting off, but not before he could find it in himself to mutter around a mouthful of the thick black ichor that ran down his chin.
"For a being as old as me, twice in the same year may as well be twice in one day."
He noticed only a moment or two later that he was speaking to himself. Liam had already disappeared, no doubt to track down someone else, to spread more justice to this wretched town. He took another mouthful of hollow meat, scanning around the area quickly and immediately; a moment later, he saw Liam standing nearby, just atop one of the buildings. Next to her was a...familiar woman. One he hadn't seen in a few weeks, in fact. He disappeared with a quick crackling sound, one that drowned out the sound of every word he'd spoken.
He reappeared, lying on the stone surface with a ridiculous, almost histrionic leaning motion. It looked like he was posing for some manner of centerfold, as if he were doing everything in his power to radiate charisma and desirability...with blood covering his masked face, and a hand that was entirely black, down to the elbow. He spoke in a languid, meandering tone that almost sounded hilarious in the circumstances, one that dripped with arrogance.
"Helll-llooooo~! Is that little Hikari I spy? Remind me, how old are you now? Fourty...fourty seven days, now?"
During that short moment, the human had reappeared in front of her. His movements had been far too fast for her to even consider tracking him with her eyes. Clearly he wasn't normal, not that she couldn't have told that from the fact that he could speak to spirits. She instinctively took a step back as he popped up in front of her, mind already racing through the options she had. Attack, though that would probably do more harm than good. Run, that would make he seem even more suspicious and with the way this guy moves she was doubtful she would've gotten very far.
Before she could formulate an answer and give it to him she heard another crack, as if there was some sort of static going off around her. Then once again the hollow was there, this time addressing her of all people by name. What was it about him that was so familiar and why did he know her name. She looked at him for a moment, letting the sound of his voice run through her head before it eventually registered with one she'd heard before. "Yaksha?" She asked tentatively, not entirely sure if she was on point with her guess. Before now she'd never seen him leave his gigai, though she'd always known he wasn't a human she had never quite been sure what he was at all. "You know I'm over a year old already, so stop teasing."
With that being said she turned her eyes back to the human who was the one piquing her interest the most. She wanted to know what and who he was, "Also I wasn't eavesdropping, I just happened to be walking by and I thought disturbing your little gathering would've been rude." It was a total farce but she told it like it was the truth. So long as they believed it and her, then it didn't really matter at all.
"Is that a year in mod soul time, or human time? I always do forget the conversion ratio. Still, it seems like it was hardly any time at all since we first met...!"
Yaksha's long, tapered fingers began to tap against his chin, tongue lolling out grotesquely and his eyes beginning to roll about. He wanted more than anything to continue impressing upon Liam just how tired he was of these random interventions, of having his down-time disturbed by the presence of snooping mortals. But he knew it would change absolutely nothing; the boy had power in his body and dreams in his head, and nothing Yaksha could do would convince Liam that he had no place in this fight.
"You're lying, and you're not all that good at it. Take it from me, lying is an artform. By all means, feel free to keep trying; there's no better way to learn than trial and error, in the grand scheme of things. But...you know. I don't quite think you have what it takes."
He rose once more slowly, stretching in the languid, self-satisfied way that a well-fed predator would. He could feel his mischievousness peaking, in the aftermath of such an impressive meal. The hollow hadn't been exceptionally strong, and if he had strung things along just a little longer, he could've managed something even more impressive. But for now there was no need to get too upset over it; food was plentiful, for one such as him. And he'd grown used to the dull burn of hunger some time back. He rolled his shoulders slowly, in a relaxing gesture...and then disappeared in a crackle of static, once more reappearing in front of Hikari, leaning forward, and leering at her.
"Is there perhaps something Seran didn't teach you, Hikari? You can ask Uncle Yaksha -all- about it."
"Quick noob question. But what's a Mod Soul?" Liam piped up, raising his hand as if he were asking a question in class. His tone almost innocent in comparison to Yaksha's admittedly creepy demeanor. Hell even calling himself Hikari's uncle was pushing it a bit too far in Liam's opinion. The small part of him that felt sympathy for those that weren't human urged him to at least potentially save Hikari from an uncomfortable encounter.
"I mean, I can gather from the name that its an artificial soul of some kind. But is that all there is to it?" His inquires continued, Stepping right between Yaksha and Hikari. His sudden appearance potentially pushing the Hollow back a bit. "Despite how interesting it is that Yaksha seems to know Seran of all people. I am rather curious. Did he create you or something?" Now that he could take a closer metaphorical look. Hikari's Reiatsu didnt feel human. It was certainly close, but if he could describe it in a way the normal senses could perceive he'd almost say that her Reiatsu had an almost metallic or artificial tang to it. Not as earthy as a Human's not as bright without warmth as a Quincy. And certainly not as cold as a Hollow's. This individual before him was something quite new.
