In the massive underground training space he had created beneath his shop, Kisuke made the final adjustments to ensure that everything was in place for his experiment. Scores of data on the Dangai Spirit he had retrieved from his apprentice’s Raizer suit proved vital in understanding the latter and confirmed his initial findings about the existence of a hive mind.
The shopkeeper’s fingers danced away on his computer keyboard before pressing ‘Enter’ to start the experiment.
His eyes moved from the screen to the unconscious Dangai Spirit in front of him, its entire being restrained in Tessai’s powerful bakudo with the caster on immediate standby in the off chance it would awaken from its comatose state.
The creature had its head cut open to expose what Kisuke presumed to be its brain, with numerous pins and cables running from the natural processor into Kisuke’s own artificial one, the laptop now giving him unparalleled access into the “network”.
“So far so good, Tessai,” he announced as he made more typing gestures. Eventually, he managed to create an algorithm program which mimicked the Dangai Spirit’s brainwave patterns whenever it would “download” information from other spirits who were connected to the hive mind.
This one, however, didn’t exactly focus on other Dangai Spirits but instead connected to the consciousness of those whose data they had acquired and call them into the creature's own dreamscape. This was the first step in his plan to destroy whatever known combat capability the creatures had.
Things to remember in posting in this introduction thread:
- You are in a dream (for now), so your OC will wander into a dreamscape by the time he/she falls asleep, so don't forget to mention that just so nobody would mistake this for the actual thing.
- The posting order will be first come, first serve (for now, at least). Default post order is by order of registration but that's only to guide those first five as to who goes next in case nobody posts within two days after Kisuke Urahara.
- Anyone who wishes to join in other than the first five who posted in the registration thread (Seran, Amaori Ichika, Alrich Detlef / Sajin Komamura, Hayato Takeda and Gaen) would need to wait for their FIRST POSTS before you can. This is just to establish the initial posting order. Newcomers will follow after the last person in the post cycle.
- To those other than the first five people who want to enter the post cycle, make it known in the Event Page and TAG KISUKE URAHARA ("Kisuke Urahara"). This is just to keep it clean and I know not to post just yet.
- Post-skipping is allowed. Thus, for every person in this thread, you have TWO DAYS FROM THE LAST PERSON'S POST to write a reply, otherwise your turn will be skipped and you will have to wait for the next round. This rule applies to the first registrants as well. If either of you don't post within the two-day grace period, you'll be deemed as to have waived your spot and be treated as a new poster for the next post cycle.
For uniformity's sake, we will follow the Eastern Standard Timezone for the two-day rule.
- This thread will be no death/no maim. However, feel free to waste each since anything goes inside a dream. Do whatever the fuck you want, ride cyborg dinosaurs with lasers if you wish, I don't care what. Just have fun with your posts.
- As far as this thread is concerned, the first poster in the post cycle will ALWAYS be Kisuke Urahara.
Seran started as his question rang out around him. He had not spoken, but the syllables of his speech echoed outwards, his thought becoming sound by some force he did not understand. It had been 10 minutes... no... an hour?... he couldn't remember and thinking about time seemed to make him dizzy. He tried to focus, closing his eyes in an attempt to block out his confusing surroundings. At some point not long ago he had arrived home, exhausted and moderately damaged from his confrontation with the strange creature on the streets of Karakura Town. He had repaired his body, and then gone to meditate in the replenishing pool within the lab. It was not the same as sleep, Seran had long ago abandoned the practice due to nightmares, but a replenishing state of "sub-consciousness" that allowed his mind to rest and his spiritual energy to quickly regenerate. That was what normally occurred anyway.
But to the mod soul's confusion, he had instead awoken here. Wherever exactly here was. A vast, empty void of solid white surrounded him, unlike anything he had previously experienced. He was unsure how long he had been there, this place seemed to make his thoughts slip back and forth, almost like he was conscious and unconscious at the same time. But he was sure that he wanted an explanation, that much had not faded from his mind. He inhaled with his mouth and breathed out slowly with his nose, a common breathing technique for relaxation. He sat down and took the same seated position he had taken in the replenishing pool, legs crossed, hand in his lap. With his eyes closed his thoughts came back into focus, the blankness of the dark far more comforting then the endless pale backdrop he knew awaited outside them.
Monitor.
The word was a thought, and now that his mind was focused it remained there, not ringing out as his question had done previous. He waited for a moment before the response came. Mental Link Recognized. Greetings Seran. Query?
Seran grinned. Wherever he was now, the parasite linked to Monitor was still implanted in his body and, more importantly, his mind.
Where am I?
Your Implanted Vessel Is Currently Located In Replenishing Pool.
As he had suspected. Whatever this place was, only his mind had been transported. His body and pill were still safely back in the lab.
Am I dreaming?
Scanning Mental Pathways.... Unclear At This Time. Mental Activity Does Not Fit Within Known Parameters.
Seran frowned. It made sense of course. Monitor had data on Seran's mental activity and the activity of several other spiritual beings. If Seran coundn;t recognize the situation it was unlikely data of his mind in this state existed to compare. He considered for a moment his situation, a mental pattern unrecognized within the normal parameters of known spiritual beings? Wait a minute....
Scan my recent memories. Look for use of memory link ability.
Scanning Memories.... Data Found. Mind Linked To Being Of Unknown Origin. Scanning Mental Pathway Information.... Only Partial Data Recovered Due To Temporary Link. Scanning.... Scan Indicates 73% Match To Mental Pathway. Conclusion: Likely Experiencing Mixed Mental State Due To Exposure To Mental Activity Of Unknown Being.
Can you wake awaken me from this state safely?
Unclear. Further Tests On Mental Environment Needed Before Safety Of Procedure Can Be Determined.
Alright. I guess I'll have a look around then. I want everything I experience here recorded while while you work. Keep me up to date on any changes.
In the barracks of the- A pair of amber-colored eyes tried to comprehend the scenery of endless white in front of her. This wasn't the Seventh Division barracks. This wasn't the Ninth Division barracks. This... wasn't even Soul Society, if she were to make an assumption. Well, she hasn't been all over the Soul Society, especially not up into the skies. She actually tried flying up there once, but she hit some sort of barrier that wouldn't let her go up any further. Not only that, there seemed to be multiple barriers beyond it. She never questioned it, though, believing it's some secret she shouldn't have tread on.
Maybe she was up there? Did whatever was up there find out and get angry? She hoped not. She couldn't think of any reason why she'd wake up and not be in her bed, though. At least, not any that are related to relatively recent events.
...
Thinking about it, this floor she found herself on is too comfortable to be a floor, especially considering it looked like white marble. Getting up from the floor, she inspected herself. Clothes, check. Zanpakutō... she doesn't sleep with them. Pillow, not there.
Taking a few steps, she began to walk around. The first thing she noticed was how the floor under her feet was hard like marble. Wasn't she sleeping on it earlier? How could this be? Could she be dreaming?
No, that wouldn't be right. If she got dreams, it was only when she slept in on an off-day. Once she woke up, she'd have work to do! Pinching her own cheek, she tried to invoke the feeling of pain... Except she didn't feel any.
It was the first thought that had entered Hayato’s mind. He had just put his head down in one of the spare rooms inside the fourth’s hospital. The night had been hectic, injuries and deaths seemed to keep piling up and it was just recently that he was able to get away if only for a few minutes. However, as his head had hit the table to relax it seemed almost instantly he was in what appeared to be another place. It was full of darkness with a simple stream of white light filling a corridor.
“Hel….Hello…” Hayato would call out into the nothingness. There would be no response though and that worried Hayato even more. He was seemingly alone in an unknown place. How was that even possible though? How could he have left where he was currently?
Hayato walked forward along what appeared to be an endless pathway of solitary light.
Yokubo o Una~tsu do you know what’s going on?
There was no response, maybe she was sleeping too? It looked like for now he would trudge forward into the dark…or rather on the path of light? It seemed as though he would have to discover the mysterious of this amusing, yet frightening place all on his own. Even when he wanted to sleep, the rare chance she got, it seemed like he wouldn’t be able to.

KISUKE = URAHARA
Kisuke noted the spike in the creature’s brainwave patterns and allowed a ghost of a smile to form on his lips. While the result wasn’t exactly what he had intended for the experiment, that other brainwaves seemed to connect to the creature’s subconscious plain confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that it was indeed psychically capable.
Despite the joy he’d felt when his hypothesis had become a workable theory, he still harboured concern as to those minds he accidentally called into the Dangai Spirit’s dream world. By the way it seemed, none of the newcomers had the same unique brainwave pattern as the creature’s own, and yet somehow the quantitative data from his computer showed that they were nonetheless compatible.
The blonde was stumped at this unexpected turn of events, only for Kisuke’s curiosity to grow even more once aberrations entered into the spirit’s psychic link. He supposed that the event was probably caused by the influx of unexpected brainwaves which inadvertently hijacked similar brainwaves so long as they were remotely compatible with the subject.
Desiring to test the extent for which these aberrant brainwaves went, Kisuke clacked away at his keyboard to run a simple combat test inside the Spirit’s brain by stimulating its aggressive impulses. At once, a mental image of the Dangai Spirit appeared in the dreamscape and and didn't hesitate to attack the intruders with its claws.
AN ENEMY HAS APPEARED!
Dangai Spirit (Strong Soul) HP: 5500/5500

Hayato stopped in his tracks as up ahead in the lighted path appeared to be the vague outlines of another human being or rather human being-like organism.
“Hello?” Hayato shouted at it, unsure of what it was or who it was, or even what was all happening right now to him in this weird other worldly dimension.
However that’s when it lunged forward at him and the closer it got the more it was certain this creature was anything but human, aside from the humanoid shape of him nothing was human at all. Whatever it was though was a mystery to Hayato. It looked like some kind of monster. A hollow maybe? It didn’t feel that way, not at all, but if not a hollow what could it be?
Hayato quickly shunpo’d as the creature came in close to him, just narrowly dodging a swipe from its horrifyingly sharp claws.
What the hell is going on here? Hey! Can you hear me? Yokubō o una~tsu this would be a really good time to help out?
But still there was nothing, whatever this spirit was doing right now, or why it wasn’t answering seemed to be yet another unfortunate mystery for Hayato. The young medical Shinigami pulled out his zanpakuto from his sheath, luckily having it on hand it seemed, at least he had something to protect himself with, even if his own spirit wouldn’t respond to him.
The Shinigami met another swipe of the creature’s claws with his own blade, shaking at the interchange, the power of the creature was extraordinary it seemed and with Hayato’s lack of field experience when it came to battle it made it all the worse. A sudden burst of energy from the creature sent Hayato wielding back, though he managed to remain on his feet, landing a few feet back, shaken but ok. The creature did not hesitate though and burst forward again.
Shit, he’s relentless. I need to slow him down somehow, someway.
Quickly Hayato shouted an incantation to a newly learned Bakudo, all the while thinking how lucky he was that he had decided to learn some, “Three chimes, rattling bones, the savage Raijin lets loose his fearsome roar!” Almost instantaneously upon completion of the incantation, and not a moment too soon, a dome electricity pushing outward roughly five meters in diameter, hitting the spirit on impact. This would at least give Hayato some time to try and figure some more things out, to try and figure out what to do and maybe even get a hold of his spirit. Though he wouldn’t have long as the electric field would only last a mere few more moments at this time, giving him virtually no help, and with no spirit to release or talk to what was he going to do. Times were not looking good for the fourth squad Shinigami.
{Techs Used/Notes} Name: Bakudo #14 Hibiku (Resound) Tier: II Range: Short Incantation: Three chimes, rattling bones, the savage Raijin lets loose his fearsome roar! Description: Releases a pulse of electricity in the shape of a dome that extends to a five meter diameter, pushing back and electrocuting all who are struck. Seran turned as a figure materialized to his right side, popping into existence in a way that would likely have been comical to a human. He raised an eyebrow as a creature similar to the one he had defeated an hour or so prior constituted itself, facing him and emitting a similar shriek. Without pause it leaped forward, extending a clawed hand in almost identical fashion to the beginning of the previous fight. Monitor, Analysis.
Scanning...
Seran dodged nimbly to the side, the now predictable attack barely ever worth registering. His foot extended, kicking the creature in the ankle to throw it off balance. It tripped forward, falling and sliding several meters away by the force of its misjudged attack.
Analysis: Similar In Appearance To Record Of Previous Creature Encounter. However Subject Shows Zero Signs Of Life. No Brainwave Pattern Is Detected. No Reiatsu Is Detected. Subject Most Resembles Virtual Training Program. Coded Responses Opposed To Sentient Thought.
So what is it? A security program for whatever this place is?
Unlikely. Determinable Code Is Basic. As Previously Stated Closer To Training Program Then Security System.
Seran's eye twitched slightly. There weren't many things that caused the mod soul to anger quickly, but being tested on like a lab rat was one of them. He returned his attention to the faux creature righting itself and returning to attack him again.
"Pathetic."
The creature's blow would connect, but much to the program's confusion Seran would remain unaffected by the strike to his chest.
"It's useless."
He concentrated, manifesting the words in his mind into the area around him as he had done earlier.
"Stop wasting my time. You might be able to fool the minds of humans or shinigami into believing they're at risk here, but such tricks wont work on me. I know the only part of me that's traveled here is my mind, my body and soul are safe where I left them. My mind knows its impervious, so my projection here is as well. So how about you explain the purpose of this place instead of annoying me with these childish games."

KISUKE = URAHARA
“A Mod Soul of this caliber…!” Kisuke mentally shouted in surprise, his smile hanging in joyous anticipation. He didn’t expect it at all, a brainwave that could forcefully exert its own existence inside such a powerful being like this captain-class Dangai Spirit. It could only mean that his power levels went beyond the conventional threshold most shinigami couldn’t even dream of attaining.
In light of this unexpected development, Kisuke immediately rushed to modify his program to make contact with the Mod Soul by amplifying the comatose creature’s cerebral activity to almost its lifelike state. Its real world body jerked violently from the strain of the new program while its brain was being fooled into thinking that it was conscious.
“Ansss.d.dasd.sawre.vew.ag.ygsa.vher.ya.yh.art.y.yuy.vasrt.uy.vatyutjhsaw!!” screamed the Spirit in an incoherent tongue while it continued its assault.
Although unintelligible, it wasn’t far to guess that the with creature mumbling in an almost screech-like tone, it was desperately trying to communicate. Despite that, its actions became even more aggressive and unleashed a massive wave of energy that seemed to rival the Mod Soul’s now.
With its new energy level in play, the Spirit released a large Cero-like blast from its non-existent mouth, capable of harming even the Mod Soul's advanced processes, even if it were just on a metaphysical level. Although far from dangerous, by itself, it could instantly knock the Mod Soul out for a substantial amount of time.
It was a necessary side effect of synchronizing brainwaves in order to facilitate inter-racial communication that would, as the mental image weakened in strength, would allow a more civilized data set to overpower the initial combative programming Kisuke had implemented as a test run.

As Ichika wondered the white realm, her balance faltered, causing her to fall flat on her face. Again, there was no pain.
However, when she looked up, the scenery around her had changed. It was a scene of battle, where two random people she didn't know were pitted against... Hold on.
That's the entity that invaded Soul Society. How could she forget the ominous, shadowy silhouette-like being? Especially after fighting it so recently?
Likewise, her memories of fighting it surfaced. This time, she wasn't going to take any chances.
「天光満つる所に我は在り」 "Mine place is filled with the Heaven's Light"
Unlike the last time, she had developed options for herself to fight without having to reveal her Zanpakutō. She didn't realize that she needed something like it until that fight, and she did not let the realization go to waste.
「来世の門開く所に汝在り」 "Thine place is the opening to Afterlife"
Ichika knew that this is a dream. However, she remembered the fear she felt when confronting that the unknown, abyssal entity.
「輝く御名の許、天竜が咆哮により万象を薙ぎ払え」 "By the radiant name of the Lord, the Heavenly Dragon shall strike all with it's roar"
She learned from that fight that splitting it into pieces could not destroy it. Therefore, she had developed this Kidō for the very purpose of completely decimating the creature.
「響け、天罰の雷!」 "Resound, o thunder of Heaven's Punishment!"
Raising her hand, her palm aimed at that target.
I will not let you haunt my dreams. Vanish, and let me sleep in peace! I need to get up on time for my duties, okay?!?
A massive blast of rumbling energy threatened to break through heaven itself as it rushed towards the creature, threatening death to the haunter of her dreams.
With this, she hoped she could snap awake with it's demise.
Hibike, tenbatsu no ikazuchi!] Mine place be filled with the heaven's light, thine place be the opening to afterlife! Under thy shining Lord’s name, the Divine Dragon’s roar shall strike all! Resound, thunder of heaven’s judgement!
Description: An even more powerful version of the Hadō 88 that fires a larger Cero-speed blast of absolute destruction over a longer distance. 100m range with incantation.

"Hmm."
Komamura stood in a pit of black, surrounded by what felt like water. Except it was not water; well it could have been, he just could not see anything other than his own body. It was very weird, as nothing could be seen in any direction that he looked, as if he was inside the Bankai of his former subordinate. But he could see his own features, which kind of perplexed him? At first he thought he was in a dream, as the last thing he could remember was falling asleep, but this felt so real, it could not be a dream could it?
As his mind tried to figure out exactly what was going on, the blackness suddenly began to rush past him, coalescing into a bizarre mixture of different images. As if he was being flung though the world at very high speed. Everything was blurry, it kind of looked like those scenes from a sci-fi movie where spaceships would go into so called "hyper speed". But was even odder was the fact that Komamura himself felt like he was not moving at all, the feeling made his stomach kind of churn.
All of a sudden he stopped, his knees felt a little weak, making him look like a little kid who had just taken his first ride on a rollar coaster at a theme park. Taking a moment for his body to catch back up to him, he took a look around. This was weird, where was he? A white marble floor was all he could make out before his ears perked up at a familiar feeling. Was that, .. Ichika? The hell? He could feel his tiny female subordinates reiatsu flair, just before being flung though the dream like world again.
His eyes narrowed this time as he came out of awkward teleportation, before him stood Amaori and two others he knew not of. But what caught his eye even mroe was that the trio were locked into battle with one of the creatures that he and Ichika had fought before in the Soul Society. What was going on? Was this even real? His mind though so, as before the thought even ceased he withdrew Tenken from his side and released his bankai right on the spot, this time going all out from the get go.
The last time he tried to be more cautious hurt like hell. Following up on the kido his subordinate released at the same time, he had his gigantic Bankai armor raise its sword and smash down upon the Dangai creature, in hopes of a swift K.O, then he would see about what was going on right now. As he was curious where he was, as well as who the other people were, and why they were even here in the first place.
ooc: sorry guys this post is a bit rushed as i did this right before a meeting, but i thought better this than nothing. will improve in the future.

Like a flash of lightning, the Dangai Spirit's image immediately distorted like a broken image on a television screen filled with static as soon as the Quincy-Shinigami tandem (in Extension Thread 1) managed to critically injure the entity. The attacks it launched disappeared but in its place the silver form began to change color into a more sinister black-skinned opponent, the Dangai Spirit now becoming a purple-eyed humanoid entity with clearly demonic features. In that instant as well, an invisible barrier shot out from the ground and separated the unknown enemy from the others who were into its vicinity.

The evolved Dangai Spirit’s purple eyes shot wide open and a trickle of black blood ran down the edge of its lips. It stood wide-eyed in disbelief, unable to comprehend that it had just been defeated in an instant. Nothing could’ve prepared it for what the newcomer had in store for it.
Standing near-lifeless from the merciless fusillade of lethal attacks it was served one after the other, the Spirit’s barely human figure desperately tried to maintain itself but failed spectacularly, its mangled body dropping down to the ground with a sickening thud, black blood and guts spilling from the ghastly wounds all over its body.
Despite its best efforts to try to stay alive, it was no use. It was already dying, and soon enough, it succumbed to the severity of its injuries. In that moment, the creature’s physical form faded out into white like a phantom, and in its place stood the barely visible figure of none other than Kisuke Urahara himself. He knew he had some explaining to do and now was the time for it.
WIN
KISUKE = URAHARA
It took a while for Kisuke’s apparition to stabilize in the mindscape of the comatose Dangai Spirit but it eventually became solid enough to be seen by everyone there as a solid figure. He wore the unmistakable garb of the famous Karakura storeowner, complete with the hat gesture and classically calm tone known by almost every shinigami.
“Oh wow, looks like I’ve gone and did it this time,” he remarked with a sigh. “I’m really sorry about this, but I seem to have accidentally pulled you all into an…experiment of mine. Let me get straight to the point cuz you guys are all probably worried and/or angry, for which I apologize. But hey, you can’t make a science cake without breaking a few science eggs, right?”
Kisuke held up his hands in a defensive gesture. “Now before you go and panic, lemme just say that all of you weren’t in any danger at all. The most that could’ve happened was that you get disconnected from this dream and you wake up in the real world, safe and sound. Which brings us to the matter at hand.”
With a wave of his hand, Kisuke produced a static figure of a Dangai Spirit, complete with realistic breathing and subtle movements that could fool anyone into thinking that it was the real deal.
“Right now, you’re all inside this particular creature’s dream. It doesn’t have a name yet since this is the first time we’ve encountered something like this but I’ll just go ahead and call this guy Manabu-kun cuz of its ability to learn and mimic skills, fighting styles, and even strengths. So first things first, have any of you guys ever seen this creature before?”

Ichika was frozen when the abyssal creature changed forms and died off as soon as it came. She wasn't quite sure what to do, or even what to say. This was really too stupid for a dream.
Which got doubly emphasized when a certain, very famous figure appeared. Ichika had only seen pictures and heard rumors, hardly ever going to the human world unless literally forced to. Urahara Kisuke. Turning to look at her Captain, whom she had noticed earlier (but had more surprising things happening in front of her worth more attention), she expected to see some familiarity in his eyes. Surely he must have dealt with this man once.
Turning back, Ichika tried to listen to the famous Ex Twelfth Division Captain's speech and came to one conclusion:
Other than his analysis of the unknown creature that attacked the Soul Society, Ichika couldn't process anything else he said. There was just something about the things he said and the way he said it that made her brain want to go around in circles, even if he was being straightforward.
"Yes, at least me and Komamura-Taichō have seen it. Actually, it just popped up all over Seireitei. We had real trouble putting down just one."
She wasn't sure why she was talking to Urahara Kisuke and being accompanied by her Captain in her dreams. However, if their dreams were somehow being connected (from what little she could understand), she should probably also take the time to apologize for the inevitable case of oversleeping.
Actually, even if these dreams weren't being connected, she'd probably apologize anyway.
Alarm shot through Seran's mind as the digital area recovered from the collision of multiple attacks that have obliterated the manifested version of the creature that had attacked them. Several other figures stood around him, two of which were quickly recognizable.
Is that.....
Warning. Physical Recognition System Match. Komamura Sajin. Urahara Kisuke.
Thought so.
As Urahara spoke, Seran used the opportunity to quickly manifest a hooded cloak to obscure his features much like how he would use black iron had they not been in a computer program. He hadn't used any of his powers so hopefully he had not attracted enough attention to be recognized. As the rather casually dressed shinigami finished, the young female shinigami who he didn't recognized piped up in response.
So these things aren't confined to just the human world. Interesting...
Seran stepped forward as the girl finished. If he was stuck here for the time being he could at least get some additional information to help him combat these things in the future.
"They aren't only appearing in Soul Society, there were several attacking within the human world. I managed to read one's mind for a few moments before I had to kill it, they aren't just mimics, they're also linked together. These first few were powerful, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd say they were just scouts collecting data. The next wave will likely have access to all the abilities used to combat the first group."

KISUKE = URAHARA
Kisuke noted the discrepancies in the information he was given. He rubbed his chin contemplatively, unable to fully ascertain the common element between those who were present in the dreamscape, save for the one fact that they were all there by his doing.
“So it seems that not everyone managed to encounter Manabu-kun here, and yet were dragged into this sphere of consciousness by the mere fact that a psychic link was established, for one reason or another…,” he explained out loud. He’d have enough of secrets for now.
Refraining from overly thinking on it for a little while, Kisuke decided it would be better if everyone knew everyone, especially considering that factual circumstances might force them to work together in the very near future. Of course, starting with himself, first and foremost.
With a tip of a hat, Kisuke let his blonde locks flow out of his green-striped hat and introduced himself. “Oh, where are my manners,” he spoke with casual authority behind his voice. “The name’s Kisuke Urahara, humble candy shop owner and part-time scientist. Nice to meet you all."
The shinigami took one look around and saw only a few people he recognized, specifically Orihime Inoue and Sajin Komamura. “Since I only know a handful of people here, would anyone mind introducing themselves first? I want to get to know you all, if at all possible.”
