Today was a normal day for Daichi, proprietor of Honoka Fabrics. He'd just delivered a bolt of cotton to a comic convention downtown, as material for a cosplayer to make emergency repairs. That was where he got most of his business, if he was honest; there aren't many fabric stores that do delivery. Still, when you could take rooftops most of the way to your destination with just a gust of wind to accompany you, it wasn't exactly hard to make these deliveries. In fact, he had to pace himself so that he wasn't suspiciously fast. He'd spent a bit of time browsing the convention today, and now he was strolling back to his shop to pick up another order, taking the streets and walking at a normal pace to fill the time until his delivery was expected. Specifically, he was taking a detour through the Naruki Square, since the parks were pretty easy on the eyes, when the hairs on the back of his neck stood up and the feeling of Hollow reiatsu brushed against his senses. "Nooooo. No no no. Not here." He'd been hiding his own spiritual pressure for the sake of people walking close to him, so there must've been a separate reason for them showing up, but Hollows went after the tastiest human available, and Daichi wasn't using Soul Synchro yet. Aware of the fact that ditching his body here would be... bad, to say the least, he grabbed a scrap of cloth from his delivery bag and tied it around his mouth and nose so that if this wound up on the internet it wouldn't immediately come back to him.
Exhaling deliberately, he let his energy start to bleed out, the lieutenant-level reiatsu seeping into the air around him with a hint of a blue glow and the scent of sea foam as his spiritual power ran up against the limits of his human body. The results were immediate as he pulled out his now-ringing Soul Phone; there were four hollows, and all were gravitating his way. Sure enough, large creatures with black bodies and bone-white masks began to approach through the trees, salivating over what they thought was a rare and lovely morsel. He waited until they were all in sight before moving, using Shunpo to appear a short distance away and repeating the process to bait them to the simple concrete depression in the ground filled with three inches or so of water; when that water froze in the winter, this would be an ice skating rink, but right now, it was a spot of ground where he had visibility and no innocent bystanders directly in the line of the fight. The first Hollow to catch up and attack was met with a Kihon-enhanced opening to an offensive kata, the absolutely bone-shattering punch slamming into the Hollow's torso and staggering it back. Not letting up on it, hoping to take one opponent out before the other three showed up, he leapt into the air, leaving a trail of reiatsu behind him as he brought his foot down on the mask, hard. Obviously, this Hollow had been more hungry than powerful, because it worked, and one opponent was felled and Daichi put up a guard and readied himself for the three remaining Hollows.
The city below was calm. It was wonderfully peaceful, although from high above the city on his towering building Alexander wouldn’t be able to hear the noise of the city. But that’s not what he felt. He felt the spiritual energy of the area through his gigai as he sipped on the wine in his glass. He listened to his assistant speaking to the people who ran the department heads as they discussed what to do with the growing number of Shinigami in the area. Alexander found the business talk informative, but he wasn’t in the mood to give his opinion today. Oz could handle that today. But as he sipped on the wine he felt the energy of not only hollows, but of a Shinigami. Alexander excused himself and left to the private elevator he had in the room. Most people assumed it went only down, but it actually went up. The room above alexanders was filled with old artifacts and models of masks. He selected one, a simple one, and made his way to the window grabbing his gauntlets along the way as he put them on, the bracelets were golden in color. As alexander left the building, no one would notice as he flew above the city and made his way toward the energy. As he approached, he would land hard, shattering the body of one of the hollows with his landing as he stood there the gauntlets stayed in their bracelet form. “Seems like you could use some assistance, Shinigami.”

And so it was that Daichi raised his guard against the remaining... two Hollows, given that some dude wearing gauntlets and a mask just dropped out of the sky and crash-landed on one. "It's only four of them. I'm in a physical body still, and not even pushing it. Though, the assistance rendered is appreciated." The remaining two were distinct from each other; one was the bog-standard Hollow, not even Gillian class, and would easily be dispatched, but it was the fourth, the one that was just hanging back, that made Daichi suspicious.
It was clearly more intelligent, and it was actually only slightly larger than the other Hollow there. Definitely not Gillian, far too small, but the bark-textured skin and strange, Tiki-style mask spoke of this being a Menos of some kind. Absolutely unwilling to believe that the level of reiatsu being emanated could come from a Vasto Lorde, that left Daichi believing that this one was an Adjuchas-level Hollow. Not that some random human off the street would be likely to know what that meant, but...
"Watch Tiki over there. He's different from the normal Hollows. We call them Adjuchas; they're Hollows that cannibalize other Hollows. He probably chased the others through a Garganta. He won't pass up a soul with high levels of power; right now he's probably trying to decide who's tastier."
Holding his hand straight out, Daichi reached deliberately for his Zanpakuto, forcing the blade to manifest in his physical body. The katana appeared in his hand, and his reiatsu increased slightly, tinging the air with the scent of the sea. "Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Katsuryoku." With the ever-familiar release phrase, the sword that he held was replaced with a lightsaber, humming ominously through the air as he gave it a testing swing and settled into Ataru stance. The Shinigami Substitute vanished with the use of Shunpo, reappearing and focusing his energy on a single downward strike to bisect the Hollow's mask and make it to where they could focus on this treelike threat.
He had a feeling they would need it.
That feeling didn't disappoint as he found himself and Alexander both the target of a wave of vines each as big around as his leg, the silent Tiki Hollow the source with its toes digging into the ground. Without the increased speed from his stance, having channeled that energy into his strike, Daichi attempted to leap back, and mostly succeeded, save for the vines that trapped his left ankle.

So I haven't named this guy, but he's really tough, has a little regenerative capability, and is a plant-o-mancer. Lost of vines. Can't talk, though. Plants don't talk.
The third hollow died as the young boy cut it in half. He explained to alexander the nature of the hollow with the wood like body. Alexander couldn’t help but smile behind his own mask at the condensating nature of the Shinigami. He knew the boy meant well, but he couldn’t help but feel angry that yet again, the Shinigami were acting like they knew better. He felt the boys energy wash over him like a wave and alexander couldn’t help but laugh as the boy left out a cry of annoyance at the vines. But as they tried to touch alexanders body he would flare his own energy, the gigai letting loose just enough energy to allow the hollow to know who was the stronger soul. The vines would recoil for a moment as alexander grabbed them with his gauntleted hands and rip them from the ground.
The hollows feet would shift as alexander severed the vines with a slash of his hand across them. “Don’t lecture me boy. You Shinigami are all the same, riding in like some white knight to save the day.” Alexander launched off some simple energy blasts from his gauntlet bracelets, the small explosions of the blasts ripping through the vines as if they were paper. “You presume I know nothing of hollows.” He said as the tiki hollow was between the two of them. “I assure you, I know enough about hollows. And I know enough about your kind to warrant asking you to leave this city when this is done.” Alexander made it obvious how he felt. He didn’t want the Shinigami in his city, he was not only a risk to his safety, but the safety of everyone who worked for him.

It was with a mild glance of irritation at Alexander that he sliced his foot free from the vine and used shunpo to back up slightly, given that the man had managed to remove some of the vines. Vines that were rapidly regrowing themselves, but it was still enough of a respite for Daichi to make his stance on the newcomer known. "Trying to make sure an ally doesn't go into the fight without knowing what they're up against. You obviously don't know my kind very well since you seem to be laboring under the impression that I'm a Shinigami, which is only half-true."
The Substitute would let that hang in the air before flash-stepping forward and striking the Tiki Hollow, a swift lightsaber strike that would've severed a lesser class of Hollow's arm but only put a burn mark onto the thick, barklike hierro that the Adjuchas possessed. All business once again, Daichi twirled his blade as he ducked a sweep of vine-like arms and maneuvered so that the Hollow was between himself and the other man, raising his empty left hand and gathering energy before flicking the Tiki Hollow in the back of the head with a shouted "Head's up!" for Alexander.
The effect was dramatic for a simple finger flick; the already damaged roots, thanks to Alexander's handiwork, failed to hold the Hollow in the ground and the beast was sent tail over teakettle towards the redheaded combatant. "Don't suppose you play baseball?" He began to gather reiatsu to convert to kinetic energy in case the man took the hint and sent the Hollow on a return trip; it wouldn't be a true Sai Tok, but he'd sidestep and slash at the beast like a batter in the American pastime if Alexander decided to hit the thing straight back.
Alexander watched as the boy moved back, his sensory equipment keeping track of the hollow for him as he dodged the few vines that swung toward him lazily. The adjuhas wasn’t used to being alone it seemed. The boy said something that not only caught alexander off guard but, it also allowed an opening for the hollow to use. "Trying to make sure an ally doesn't go into the fight without knowing what they're up against. You obviously don't know my kind very well since you seem to be laboring under the impression that I'm a Shinigami, which is only half-true."
A Sub Shinigami? Alexanders blood boiled at the thought. He growled to himself as his reishi flared. But the Hollow saw his chance and struck out cutting a deep gash against alexanders face not only shattering the mask he wore, but allowing the angry bitter look in his face to show. The boy sent the hollow flying toward Alexander throwing a joke toward him as well, but Alexander would have none of it as a shiney silver metal leaked from his body, covering him in the metal and making the already imposing man taller. Alexander Grabbed the hollow as it flew toward him and slammed it into the ground, shattering the ground beneath him with such force that the power poles near him broke and fell to the ground.
After a moment Alexander would stand up and placing a foot on the hollows chest he would curb stomp its mask into dust, but the damage had been done. Unknown to ether of them the hollow virus was now coursing through alexander body. A metallic voice would come from the suit as the four bright metal eyes slide in the suits mechanisms and looked toward the sub Shinigami. “You joke about these beings? About these abominations like their toys?” Alexander took a heavy metal step toward the boy as if he was wearing nothing. “I have spent my entire life fighting these things. To have a Shinigami…No a Substatute Shinigami come in and presume to fight with an understanding of these things.”
Alexander stood there, staring at the boy. His anger growing far greater then it should have. Why today? Why did this poor child who had gotten missed into this godforsaken have to appear in his city? “Leave. Naruki City is under my protection. Tell the other Shinigami they are not needed here, and any futher action on their parts will be taken as an act of aggression against not only this city but inhabitants of it.” Alexander said as he waited for the boy to leave. Should he stay…alexander wouldn’t want to think of what he would do.

Daichi considered himself a rather level-headed person, but today was trying his nerves. He sealed his sword before dropping Soul Synchro, bringing his reiatsu down to a far more controlled level out of habit more than anything else. It was an attempt to clamp down on his emotions, but he still reacted to the accusation. "I've spent years training, too. I can't possibly keep tabs on every spiritually active human in Naruki, and the fact that you've had to deal with them for however long is, quite frankly, a problem. These are a matter for the afterlife to handle. I have a personal reason for being involved. You shouldn't have to worry about it."
The substitute ripped the makeshift bandana from his face and vanished, reappearing with a gust of wind a mere foot from the metallic-suited Alexander. "And then, after taking my attempt to arm an ally with knowledge as some kind of bizarre insult, you have the gall to tell me to leave my city. Let me tell you something. I'm not here because Gotei 13 told me to come to Naruki specifically. The prefecture is a good deal bigger than just this one city. I go and deal with threats here, in Karakura, in God knows how many other towns, but do you know why I live here? It's because I own a store, I have neighbors, and I enjoy being a citizen of Naruki when I don't have to deal with... this."
He gestured at the property damage that Alexander had inflicted, making it clear exactly what "this" meant. Then he stepped back and ran a hand through his hair, taking a deep breath and holding up his other hand to forestall any comment by the metal man. "You see what happens when you get involved? You just put a hole a block or two wide in Naruki's power grid because you had to show off, slam it into the ground instead of hitting it back or up or whatever, or even, God forbid, dialing back on the juice a bit so you didn't break the ground. Now, if you're done issuing unlawful orders for citizens of Naruki to leave it, I'm going to get lunch. Soul Synchro makes me hungry, and if your little earthquake gambit didn't upend it, there's a great hotdog cart about two blocks thataway. If you can stop your anti-Shinigami temper tantrum for five minutes, come find me."
Could probably have handled that a lot better, Daichi mused as he vanished from the area and began the walk to the aforementioned street cart. Miracle of miracles, the fallout seemed to be mostly contained to the block radius that the skating rink was in... they were gonna have to resurface that now, before the water froze. He bought a weiner and sat down on a bench to see if he was going to be able to have a civil conversation with what was one of the most talented spiritually aware humans he'd seen since he became a Substitute Shinigami.
