Daichi looks to be a couple years younger than he is; he became a Substitute at the age of 19, 3 years ago. He's clean-shaven, owing mainly to the fact that the facial hair he can grow looks stupid. He has messy black hair that he keeps cut to just past his ears. His eyes are a dark blue, and can sometimes be seen hidden behind reading glasses; Daichi is slightly farsighted. In human form, he normally wears loose-fitting clothing, favoring reds and blues, along with white athletic shoes. As a Shinigami, he obviously wears the normal Shihakusho.

HISTORY
Daichi's life was pretty average for a long time. He was the only son of a middle-class family living in Naruki City. His father was an office worker and his mother stayed at home. He was a smart kid; he got good grades at school, and, of course, as typically happens with smart children, he was ridiculed for it. He dealt with it by reading; he could go anywhere with books, do anything. His friendly local librarian got him hooked on sci-fi, and at the age of 13, when his English was good enough to understand it, the Star Wars movies.
Honoka Daichi loved the Star Wars movies. Why wouldn't he? It's the classic formula of good triumphing over evil, of faith in the Light proving stronger than fear of the Dark. He watched the movies, read the books, and decided there were some good ideas in there. Especially the first four lines of the Jedi Code: Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. The Force wasn't very applicable to real life, no matter how much young Daichi wished it was.
Daichi picked up a few costuming classes after school when he was 15; something to do with his hands that he tried on a whim and wound up enjoying. It was around that time he started seeing things; semi-transparent people, monsters off in the distance, people in black robes with swords and magic powers. He did the rational thing, told people, got medication for schizophrenia, and stopped seeing people. Of course, that didn't mean they couldn't see him; he was basically blocking off his spiritual senses using the medication as an excuse. Just shutting his metaphorical eyes and pretending it didn't exist, not that he knew it existed until the age of 19, when, on a walk to a bookstore to pick up the texts for his upcoming university courses, an invisible hand struck him and knocked him unconscious.
When he awoke, he was somewhere he'd never seen before, surrounded by people he'd never seen before and being addressed by another strange man who introduced himself as Captain Kurotsuchi Mayuri of the Gotei 13, a title which meant absolutely nothing to Daichi at the time. He gave a brief overview of the true state of the world; of the Hollows and the Shinigami, and the Soul Society. He asked if they wanted to be something more than human, if they wanted to join the fight. Daichi decided he'd say yes; the Shinigami worked for balance in the world, which was as close to being a Jedi as Daichi was ever going to get.
When he awoke from his next chemically induced slumber, it was to a greatly reduced number of comrades. Still, the survivors had all become what Captain Kurotsuchi had promised they would be; human-Shinigami hybrids, or Substitute Shinigami. Honoka noticed that his hair had grown during his time in stasis, and, rather than cut it back to normal, decided he might as well braid it since he was basically a Padawan at this point. The hairstyle ended up sticking. They went straight into training right away; a series of battle simulations wherein Honoka Daichi proved that his intellect was good for more than just books and chess games. He fought, but he also directed others in the fight; he was a strategist who liked to lead from the front. He was told repeatedly that his tendency to want to take on the more dangerous parts of a fight was a poor habit to fall into, when there might be someone more suited, like one of his comrades who eventually proved themselves a good fit for Squad 11. His training was not short; it took two years before he was even able to learn outside of a simulated environment. Still, his dedication and sound mind for command earned him the number 1; not a ranking among his peers, but a squad where he was a good match.
It was with a hearty laugh that Daichi had realized the day after his assignment to Squad 1, he should cut his braid and complete the reference. With skills honed from costume design electives taken during his high school years, he cut the braid off and trimmed his hair to just below the ears. It didn't look that great at first; cutting hair and cutting fabric were two entirely different animals. Eventually he learned the trick to cutting one's own hair; "Don't do it; that's why barbers exist." The First Squad welcomed him in warmly enough; it wasn't like everyone could be expected to react happily to a human running around, but nobody hazed him or ridiculed him in the model squad of the Gotei 13.
Now, and for the past six years, he's maintained a life in Naruki City as the owner of a small fabric store which doubles as a way-station for Shinigami who need to stay an extended time on Earth. He pays frequent visits to Soul Society for practice with other members of the Gotei 13; practicing Zanjutsu with Squad 11 is always a challenge, as is working on Hakuda on the ever-so-rare occasions he can find a member of Squad 2 to spar with. His life has settled into his own bizarre form of normalcy, now; as normal as it can be when you often go to the afterlife for the weekend, play host to gods of death every now and then, and spend free time hunting down soul-eating monsters outside of your body. Honoka Daichi is pretty happy with his life, all things considered. He's the closest thing to a Jedi he can think of, he works for a great cause, and he gets to utilize his talents. He leads a pretty interesting life, and, he often reflects, that's really better than any monotonous day job.
Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄, "Incantation Abandonment"): is the skill in which a Kidō practitioner skips using a spoken incantation completely, but it drastically weakens the spell. This is applied as a 1-2 tier drop in the spells power depending on ones Kidou mastery, 2 for Beginner up to Advanced, and 1 for Mastered and above. However this also lowers the spells cooldown to match the lowered tier, to a minimum of Tier I.e.g A Tier IV Kidou be cast with Eishohaki as a tier II, its cooldown will also be the same at 0 posts.
BATTLE SKILLS
Name: Oni Dekopin [鬼デコピン, "Oni Headpoke"] Class: Hand to Hand Technique Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: Oni Dekopin is a condensed blast of physical energy in the form of a finger flick to the head, which is usually seemed as a harmless gesture. Upon impact, it deals very little damage, almost equivalent to a bala, but sends the target flying at Cero speeds, going at the most 100 meters.
Name: Karate Class: Hand to Hand Style Tier: N/A Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: Karate is one of the most renown self-defense Martial Arts style that there is. While most might think it's been blown up by Hollywood, it's not entirely true or false, but the accuracy and deadliness of this style is not something that can be ignored. Often times Karate is referred to "The Style of the Open Fist", for it accompanies no weapons at all, and often times uses spear-handed hits to dislocate and disarm opponents.
Karate is both taught as a sport and self defense, but is more so as a Self Defense because of it's nature. Sparring in Karate isn't easy, and in rounded tournaments can cause damage to a match from all the strikes that a Karate user pulls out before it ends.
To train Karate, it is more spiritual then one would aware, working around self-control and calmness in fights to utilize it's plethora of abilities. The main way to train Karate is to focus directly on frontal punches and linking together other attacks in rapid motion, and repeating this process at a random conjunction of moves constantly, and until the user is worn out enough to not be able to continue on with the mix of moves.
Name: Kihon [Fundamentals] Class: Hand to Hand Technique Tier: II Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: The fundamentals to Karate revolve all around the user's ability to utilize their form and then their current grip on the art itself. The fundamentals of Karate grant the ability of utilizing them at any time, which if the user wished, would invoke power from their core and power whatever hit they are throwing out with extra power. This can be easily spammed, requiring no downtime, and has no sign of it existing outside of a sliver of their reiatsu appearing along whatever appendage they just used to land a hit.
Name: Kumite [Meeting of Hands] Class: Hand to Hand Technique Tier: II Type: Offensive/Defensive Range: Self Description: Kumite acts around the ideal of disarming an opponent, usually focusing on an opponent who has gotten too angry / arrogant in their attack and has momentarily given up defending themselves. By utilizing their hands, a Karate user can instantaneously shift a punch that was sent at them and snap the wrist all the way back with a flick of their finger, which is enhanced with power. This will often break the wrist entirely, causing immense pain and a lack of movement in it.
Name: Kata [Shape] Class: Hand to Hand Techniques Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: The "shape" or "form" of ones stance in Karate is dependent on how high they are up, your form - and all variants - showing how powerful you are, for each form in on itself gets harder to master, but more deadly in the long wrong. There is one universal thing about all the forms though, they put emphasis on the thrusting hand, to which each form allows to release the arm at incredible speeds, this simply emphasizes on it. By focusing power into the muscle and hand and augmenting the swing, the user of this ability can speed up their hand to the speed of a cero from no speed at all. Most people wouldn't walk away from this.
Name: Kazaguruma [風車, "Windmill"] Class: Hand to Hand Techniques Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: Kazaguruma is comprised of two movements, one is which the user jumps into the air at 3x natural speed, leaving a trail of the condensed physical energy behind them, before crashing down with a hard kick at a target knocking them away, up to 50 meters to be specific. Kazaguruma can be used in any manner, either in a frontal kick, sideways, backwards, any numerous amounts of ways to utilize it, and can be used to set up an advantage.
Name: Soul Synchro Step Class: Stepping Tier: I Type: Stepping Range: N/A Description: This technique allows Daichi to preform Shunpo even while outside of Soul Synchro. It works exactly like Shunpo. That's it.
Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps.
ITEMS
Denreishinki: It communicates between Soul Society and the human world, it gets text messages and phone calls, and it can track Hollows. What more can you ask for from a phone? Its ringtone is the distinctive sound of a lightsaber activating.
REIATSU FEATURES
Daichi's reiatsu is a dark blue, the same as his eyes, and smells of sea foam. It seems to pull towards him before crashing out, like waves against the shore.
HUMAN POWERS
The Force
Telekinesis
Emotion, yet peace
HUMAN ABILITIES
Name: Force Telekinesis Class: Human Powers Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: Medium (30ft) Description: Daichi can move things with his mind, but only with the use of hand motions that have some resemblance to what he wants to do with the object. He can lift anything that he could move physically, but it takes longer and he can't manipulate objects very precisely with it. The objects he levitates have to be unattended, and they don't move fast enough to deal serious injury. At most, he can be a minor inconvenience to someone with this. But then, sometimes all you need is to inconvenience someone. Also, it's great for when a pen falls down behind a desk or the keys slide under the fridge.
ZANPAKUTOU
Katsuryoku [Energy/Vitality]
Kinetic Energy Manipulation
passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony.
SEALED FORM
Katsuryoku takes on the form of a simple katana with a hilt wrapped in blue fabric, a gold-colored tassel hanging off the end and a blue sheath decorated with subtle gold leaf accents.
SPIRIT APPEARANCE
Perhaps it should concern Daichi that Katsuryoku takes on a form with striking similarities to Anakin Skywalker, but it doesn't. The sword appears as a man in the prime of his life with unruly brown hair, a scar running down his face, and a confident grin. He wears a simple black outfit; a shirt, pants, and a vest, with practical shoes and a pouch on his belt.
SPIRIT PERSONALITY
Katsuryoku is a lot less rigid than Daichi; he's confident in himself and not afraid to show it. He enjoys it when Daichi challenges himself. He says the sound of the waves on the rocks when Daichi is pushing himself is comforting to him. The sword exemplifies something that Daichi attempts to emulate; grace under pressure. Katsuryoku is not opposed to just talking, and not even about anything important. He's calm and patient, like Daichi, and when Daichi can't be calm anymore, Katsuryoku is there to listen to what's causing the waves to take on a malevolent tone.
INNER WORLD
Daichi's inner world is a forest on a cliff that overlooks a dark and restless sea. To the north and south, the cliff face stretches on as far as Daichi can see; to the east, the sinister-looking water goes on for a similar distance, while to the west the calm forest does the same. The break in the pattern is a simple clearing that sits at the very center of the inner world, along the cliff and between the sea and forest. The waters rage in response to whatever is making Daichi worry; they're at their calmest when nothing is concerning him, but even then they still crash roughly against the cliff.
SHIKAI
SHIKAI APPEARANCE
It should surprise exactly nobody that Daichi's shikai takes on the form of a single-handed hilt with a beam of light extending from it to form a longsword.
SHIKAI ABILITIES
Name: Soresu Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Defensive Range: Self Description: Daichi utilizes Katsuryoku to defend against incoming physical attacks by draining kinetic energy from them. By focusing on defense and channeling the energy out into the open air, Daichi causes attacks of lower advantages to simply stop where they touch the blade; projectiles fall to the ground, swords simply slow to a stop. Even attacks that bypass the defense are slowed somewhat, the degree dependent on the advantages. This is a stance-type ability, and requires a constant, but small, expenditure of energy. Daichi can only use one stance at a time, and can maintain this stance for five posts before needing to switch or stop using a stance for a post.
Name: Shien Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Defensive/Offensive Range: Self Description: A step up from Soresu, Shien focuses of reflecting attacks or, failing that, utilizing the energy of an attack in a counter attack. While utilizing Soresu, Daichi can redirect the kinetic energy in a straight line, rather than into the area around the attack. Attacks of lower advantage are reflected back at the user or another opponent as though Daichi was the one who fired them. The power and speed of the technique remain unchanged. Melee attacks typically won't hit the user unless they were thrown exceedingly recklessly; this ability proves itself much more useful with ranged attacks. Shien has a one post cooldown.
Name: Ataru Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Supplemental Range: Self Description: By foregoing the enhanced defense of Soresu and Shien and committing to the attack, Daichi can gain a burst of speed in an attempt to slip around the opponent's defenses and control the space between the two. By magnifying the kinetic energy in his movements, Daichi gains a x2 Speed Boost while utilizing Ataru. Daichi can only use one stance at a time, and can maintain this stance for five posts before needing to switch or stop using a stance for a post.
Name: Sai Tok Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Offensive/Supplemental Range: Short (1m) Description: A lunge coupled with a vertical slash, Sai Tok can only be utilized during Ataru and cancels the speed boost for the round, replacing it with a X3 Strength boost for that single attack, drastically amplifying the energy in that attack. The ability then goes on cooldown for one post. Sai Tok does not force Daichi out of Ataru, and the speed boost returns at the end of the cooldown, provided Daichi is still in Ataru stance.
