OOC: This thread is intended to be a starting point for Naomi to develop as a character and to get me back into RPing (it's been a while!). I've got no real plan for how I want this thread to go, but if you'd like to get involved just PM me and let me know. Hopefully this'll be a chance to get to know some of you and interact with your characters. Also feel free to skip the dream bit, I kind of went a bit OTT. An infinite expanse of nothingness filled her limited vision.
There was an almost inaudible, deep drone that seemed to come from every direction apart from the one she was facing. Naomi attempted to turn to face the sound, but couldn’t move. She felt as though she was trying to move through a pitch-black tar, and no matter how much she squirmed her body would not move.
After what felt like minutes of struggling, Naomi stopped, slumping forward. In an instance she had somehow rotated 180°, her head roughly where her feet had been and vice-versa. The rose-haired shinigami’s mind buzzed with confusion. ‘Why is it only when I gave up trying to move, that I suddenly spun round. And shouldn’t I be upside down now? I did rotate forwards after all. Why do I feel like I’m the right way up still? At least I’m facing the way I wanted to. But I still can’t see what’s making that weird humming noise… wait!’
Naomi’s train of thought juddered to a halt. In the very centre of her vision, a bead of light was slowly twinkling into view. Her eyes strained to focus on it, but very quickly it wasn’t a dot at all. It was a whole cluster of points of light, tightly bound together.
And they were coming closer.
And they were moving rapidly.
Within moments it was clear that the dots of light were in fact stars gathered around a super massive black hole. Naomi began to feel a pit in her stomach as she realised she was in a collision course with the approaching galaxy. She didn’t even bother trying to move. It was far too enormous and travelling at such velocity towards her that it’d be hopeless. She wanted to close her eyes but couldn’t. Her heart began to pound as the entirety of her vision was engulfed by the light of the stars. The galaxy was so close now that she swore she could see planets of various sizes and descriptions orbiting the massive orbs of energy.
Naomi’s fear was now slipping into wonderment and awe. She began to feel goose bumps forming on her arms, the stars now totally surrounding her. She began to see the beauty of the galaxy, picking out stars of yellow, red, white and blue. Some stars had a horde of satellites whizzing around them at various distances, others were alone as they hurtled through the vacuum.
But no sooner had Naomi seen any beauty in her surroundings; that she began to drift towards danger. The rose-haired shinigami began to feel her entire body being slowly pulled towards the right. Initially she ignored it, still marvelling at the cosmos, but after a few seconds she became aware of an arc of pale orange glowing in the corner of her eyes. Naomi turned her head to face the new object and gasped at what she saw.
A behemoth of a gas giant loomed out in front of her, a myriad of rings of rock and ice encircling it. Its dusty form was all she could now see as she felt herself being inexorably drawn towards it. Naomi tried to turn away or move, but her arms and legs kicked away at nothingness. She tried to scream, but there was no air in her lungs.
She was falling towards the planet.
And there was nothing she could do to stop it.
“Sp-space!” Naomi squeaked as she jolted forward, throwing off the thin white sheet that covered her. Her face was heavily beaded with sweat and her heart pounded in her chest.
“Just a dream,” Naomi half laughed, half sighed as she sunk into her pillow. She closed her eyes gently, before snapping them open again. ‘Where am I?’ she began to think, her heart quickening once more. Naomi shifted her head from side to side, taking in her surroundings. The room was bare, and illuminated by two rows of fluorescent tube lights. A simple chair and desk were positioned to the right of where she lay, whilst opposite stood a large steel machine. As Naomi turned to sit up and face its flashing lights and dials, she felt something pulling at her arm. She winced as she realised she was attached to the large medical apparatus by several tubes and wires.
‘I must be in the Sōgō Kyūgo Tsumesho,’ Naomi thought, ‘but… how did I end up here?’ No matter how hard she searched her memory, she couldn’t remember anything concrete about what had happened to her recently. She remembered being sent to the World of the Living, but not why, and she certainly couldn’t think of how she got back to Seireitei, let alone why she’d be under the care of the Yonbantai. Whatever the reason, Naomi wasn’t going to wait to find out. She went to move, but stopped, remembering that she was connected to the machine.
“This is going to hurt,” Naomi sighed, wrapping her fingers around one of the tubes connected to her arm.
Naomi quietly stepped out of the room into the corridor, checking to see if anyone was awake. She had noticed the night sky through a window prior to leaving the room and was hoping she could sneak out without anyone noticing. As far as she could tell there was nothing wrong with her anymore, and Naomi wanted nothing more than to return to her barracks and work. She felt so… out of the loop. But surely someone in her own division would know what happened to her?
After removing the various wires and tubes, Naomi had found her zanpakuto and shihakushō folded neatly on the bedside table in the room. She quickly threw them on before making the decision to leave immediately and return to her barracks. Upon seeing no one was about, Naomi began to move swiftly looking for an exit. But it wasn’t long until someone found her.
“I see you’re finally awake then,” said a gentle voice behind her.
Naomi stopped in her tracks feeling embarrassed. She spun round to face the voice, bowing apologetically. The person that had caught her was one of the many nurses that worked with the Yonbantai, giving medical aid to any and all shinigami that found their way, through injury or illness, into their wards. The nurse had a warm, placid smile on her face and was carrying several clipboards in her arms.
“I’m very sorry, I was just-”
“Please, there’s nothing to apologise for,” the nurse said smiling. “I’m just pleased to see you up and about, especially after the state you were found in…” The nurse’s expression darkened slightly, her eyes breaking contact from Naomi’s.
“What happened to me?” Naomi said, stepping closer to the nurse.
“We don’t know,” said the nurse sighing, “or at least, no one told us the exact details. You were found in the world of the living, apparently lifeless. You were almost given your last rites until a young nurse noticed you still had a faint pulse. Your external wounds were easily treated, but internally…,” the nurse paused for a moment, smiling wryly. “Well, let’s just say internally things were more complicated.”
“Please, I want to know,” Naomi said almost begging. “I need to know what happened to me. I can take whatever you have to tell me. I’m fine now after all!”
“You’re a determined woman, aren’t you?” The nurse’s smile was one of sincerity now. “You had lost a great deal of blood when you arrived, and your internal organs… it was like someone had taken a giant corkscrew to them. It took months of gradual organ realignment and focused reishi-”
“I’ve been in here for months!” Naomi interrupted, her jaw dropping and her heart-rate beginning to quicken. The nurse took Naomi’s left hand and patted it reassuringly. Her expression shifted again, this time to one of almost pity. Naomi closed her eyes and took a deep breath before asking; “How long exactly have I been here?”
“I’m afraid you’ve been in a coma for just over three years now,” the nurse said reluctantly, correctly guessing Naomi would not be best pleased at this revelation. She did not, however, expect Naomi to react the way in which she did.
“Oh.” Naomi’s face became blank and distant. Her hand slipped out of the nurse’s hold, dropping limply by her side. “That’s a long time. I suppose I’ve missed out on quite a lot.”
The nurse began to formulate a response, but was unable to deliver it.
The young shinigami had gone, disappearing through a nearby door and into the humid midsummer night’s air, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Tonight so far had been no different than the rest of the nights he had worked, all this week Hayato was on the grave-yard shift, an odd term for Shinigami though Hayato thought. As he rounded the corner, dressed in his typical shinigami attire for the hospital, to one of the hallways however he had stopped, the excited talking of a nearby nurse and presumably some patient, certainly a patient she seemed very familiar. Hayato though kept his distance as their talk continued, he was too far away though to hear what it was they were discussing particularly. Then suddenly the girl left, the nurse looking dumb founded having been preoccupied not even seeing her leave through a nearby exit.
Hayato sighed as he continued forward towards the nurse asking her of the situation that had just taken place. He was able to find out that she was indeed a patient and one that had been in a coma for around three years, it only made sense at that point that Hayato had seen her before, had noticed her from various rounds throughout his course at the hospital.
“I’ll see to it she’s ok.” Hayato said calmly to the nurse, nodding as he headed out towards the direction the girl had departed from. The fact that she was walking so well already having been in bed for so long was a bit of a miracle, however based on the conversation it seemed that this might be fueled on heavy amount of adrenaline, after all it isn’t every day you’re told you’ve been sleeping for near three years.
Hayato proceeded out the doors he had just a few moments early watched the girl go through. The night air was humid as it naturally was during the summer time. A breeze going by here and there making the air feel nice for a moment before the humidity struck again. It didn’t take Hayato long though to spot the girl. Although it was dark out there were very few people in the vicinity luckily for him. Playing hide-and-seek certainly wasn’t something he had planned on his list, and seemed as though he would not have to make room for it.
Slowly, but surely Hayato proceed towards the girl, making steady progress as she continued to walk forward, he gait slower than when she left, but certainly still walking in a good pace for someone at this time at night, or any at that matter.
“Hello.” Hayato would say calmly as he got within potential hearing range of the girl, “A little rushed to leave that place it seems, huh?” Hayato sported a bright smile, hoping that the girl would at least take his advance kindly, it would be a bit of a surprise he was sure, but he was always hopeful for things being solved as diplomatically as possible.
She didn’t really know where she was going, but Naomi felt she had to go somewhere else. She had been inside that room for over three years. She needed to go away from there, anywhere but there. She had thought of going back to her division’s barracks, but would they even remember her anymore? Her room had probably been cleared out by now and occupied by someone else. Her meagre collection of belongings would have undoubtedly been discarded. No, she couldn’t go there.
Naomi’s mind began to buzz with different ideas, not settling on one for more than a second. Maybe she should turn around and go back to the hospital. Or try and find her sister, Toppa would want to see she’s awake after all. Or maybe go back to the Sanbantai barracks; she needed to get back to work. But she felt hungry. And thirsty. And so tired. She began to notice it now; her legs had slowed and were aching. It felt like they were encased in concrete. Naomi’s entire body seemed to have been suddenly drained of energy.
As she slowed to almost a halt, her body slumping forward, she became aware of somebody calling to her. She could hear it was a male voice but for some reason her brain refused to process the words that were being said. She tried to speak to him, but her mouth could barely form coherent words.
“Wh-who… whe-wherrre… who arrre y-you?” Naomi mumbled as she tried to turn and face whoever was calling her. As she began to turn, Naomi’s body began to seize up, her body twisting and falling to the ground with a bump. The rose haired shinigami tried to sigh in frustration but it seemed even that was too much effort for her feeble feeling body. Whilst her body was beginning to fail, her mind began to settle and allow her to think more rationally. Despite now laying weakly on her side, Naomi was at least now able to look at the male shinigami who had been calling to her. She immediately noticed the blue haired boy’s bright smile and quickly felt embarrassed. Rather than alerting the medical staff of the fourth division that she was awake and thanking them for attending to her, she had tried to run without a word. And it was apparent she was paying for it now. Her body had managed to get her only a little distance away from her bed, perhaps running on pure adrenaline, and she was paying for it now. Every inch of her ached and she felt a great deal of shame for rushing off so recklessly.
“I’m fine,” Naomi would say weakly as she looked towards the male shinigami who had been calling after her. She supposed that he would be worried about her wellbeing; most members of the Yonbantai were the caring sort after all. Feeling a little awkward at her situation, Naomi felt compelled to introduce herself as if to remove some of her embarrassment. “I’m Naomi,” she said sheepishly, “Kaen that is… Naomi Kaen.” She inwardly cringed, regretting her introduction instantly.

Hayato watched as the girl began to collapse, however he was too slow and it had happened far too quick for him to have gotten there. Luckily it seemed she hadn’t fallen to roughly and was still ok, albeit confused why some mystery person in the middle of the night was calling for her.
“Naomi Kaen, you say? It’s nice to finally be able to talk to you. You’ve been in there for quite some time if I recall.” Hayato said with a smile as he got closer to the girl, kneeling down beside her. She had given the same response he would have expected from most anyone, that they were fine. People often times were far too prideful to admit something was wrong even when it was clear to those around that they needed help. Hayato had come to terms with that though, it was almost impossible not to working in the hospital and seeing it happen almost every day.
Hayato sighed for a moment before offering his hand out to the Naomi.
“Let me help you. You’ve been in that bed for quite some time, it might take a bit till you get your strength back, but that’s of course nothing to be ashamed of, nor can you really help it.” Hayato said calmly. “Right over there is a bench we can sit at if you want. I can understand not wanting to be in the hospital everything must be quite the shock right now. It’s a lot more open out here, a lot easier to think, no?”
Hayato looked at Naomi his hand still outstretched as he thought for a moment, wondering what the girl would do. He could only imagine she had so many questions, things that had happened she wasn’t around for, if people had forgotten about her, how her family was, the potentials were endless. Though Hayato knew very few answers to the questions she might ask he was more than ready to answer any that he could, letting her get as much understand and comfort from them as he could possibly bring her.
“I’m sure you have a lot of questions.” Hayato said after a moment, “If you want I can answer some, or at least try to I can’t promise I have all the answers you’re looking for. I can understand too though if you don’t want to talk.” Hayato placed his hand on the back of his neck a bit embarrassed of all the talking he was doing.
“Sorry I guess I’m kind of rambling here. I don’t mean to seem rude or talkative. Just let me know what you would like to do. I’ll be more then glade to assist you however possible. I am just glad to see you are doing well enough to be awake with us here again.”
Naomi began to feel relieved as the male shinigami began to speak again. It was clear he was just trying to help her and she knew it would be stupid to refuse any assistance. From what he said it seemed as though he was aware of her situation like the nurse, though that was only to be expected considering she had been at the hospital for quite a long time.
The blue haired shinigami kept on talking, but Naomi didn’t mind. It was quite nice hearing somebody else speak after being isolated in her coma for so long. Although she didn’t remember much (or anything really) of the last three years of unconsciousness, she definitely felt as though it had been an age since she last had a conversation with anyone, aside from her brief exchange with the nurse. He had also offered his hand towards Naomi, and whilst being very grateful of his kindness, she felt a bit foolish for getting herself in her current predicament. She had been so determined since graduating from the academy to be as independent as she could; not relying on the protection and support of others. Naomi winced slightly, not from a twinge of pain but from the thought that her injuries and coma were the result of her stubbornness.
“I suppose there is a lot I want to ask, and, thank you, I would like to sit over on that bench,” Naomi said as she shifted uncomfortably to get herself up. She took the male shinigami’s outstretched hand, appreciative of the assistance he was offering her. Naomi hoped to try to largely use her own limited reserves of strength, but undoubtedly would rely much on the other shinigami. She would then look to move slowly over to the bench, again trying to do so as independently as possible. As they made their way towards the bench Naomi would finally say; “At least there are a lot of things I should ask. I imagine a lot has happened over the last three years…,” Naomi would stop suddenly aware she didn’t know the name of the shinigami who had come to her aid. “S-sorry, I don’t think I know your name, unless you’ve said it and I’ve forgotten or didn’t hear you. I do that sometimes…,” she would trail off, blushing.

Hayato continued to smile as the female shinigami took his hand and they slowly proceeded to the bench. He supported her just as much as needed in order to supplement the strength she still had, after all she needed to work on her muscle strength again if she wanted to get back in full working order. Hayato listened carefully as the girl spoke as they made their way to the bench, her voice soft and kind sounding with much curiosity rooted throughout it.
Hayato sighed a little at her question before speaking, “Yes quite a bit has happened actually as surprising as it might be. I’m really not sure where to begin, how about you tell me what you last remember? At least then I have a way of judging what all you need to be caught up on other than simply the obvious. Also is there anything specific you want to know? Like things I wouldn’t particularly know to tell you?”
They had got to the bench at this point as another question came from the shinigami, one that Hayato himself was slightly embarrassed he hadn’t prevented. In all the talk he hadn’t even introduced himself, simply neglecting it all together and continuing the conversation. Wyatt laughed slightly as he helped Naomi down onto the bench, taking a seat right next to her.
“My name is Hayato Takeda. I’m sorry I didn’t introduce myself sooner, I tend to get a little wrapped up in conversations and forget all about the formalities of such things, I guess I’m a bit forgetful too in that respect.”
He had noticed the blush on her cheeks as she admitted to her lack of memory or hearing, even though in this circumstance that was not the case at all. People did after all seem to get rather flustered whenever they had to admit to someone a weakness or flaw of themselves, and Hayato was sure that on top of that the girl was feeling a bit embarrassed about her fall and need of help and assistance. Hayato could have told her six different ways and reasons it wasn’t her fault, but he didn’t he knew she was more than aware that this was to expected and telling her would only lead to an awkward conversation of apologies and thanks, so he figured it best to just simply ignore it.
As Naomi was carefully helped down onto the bench by the male shinigami she began to seriously consider what she wanted to ask and what she wanted to know. She was someone who prided herself on being very aware of current events regarding the workings of Seireitei and the state of the World of the Living. She continued to think about what she wanted to know as the blue haired shinigami introduced himself.
“Don’t worry, I’m no good at formalities either,” Naomi said smiling, relating to Hayato’s statement. She could remember many moments during her time in the academy where she was mocked by her fellow students for her social awkwardness. The same was true for when she joined her division, the Sanbantai. Naomi now began to think about her division, and the state it was in before she was found in a coma.
“One of the last things I remember before my coma was speaking with Toppa, my sister, about my taicho’s betrayal,” Naomi said. “Has Ichimaru Gin been brought to justice yet, and is Soul Society safe?”
Naomi did her best to stop herself from shaking as she asked the question. Since learning about the events that led to three captains (including her own) abandoning their duties and making it clear they were enemies of Seireitei, she had made it her mission to do anything and everything she could to play a part in defending Soul Society and the World of the Living. Whilst this had pushed Naomi to better herself, spending hours of her time training and performing extra duties, it had also made her reckless.
Naomi’s shoulders slumped forward and her head dropped down slightly. She feared she wouldn’t like the answer she was about to hear, thinking the worst. But whatever Hayato had to tell her she knew that she must return to her division and her training, ready to play her part in any way she could.
Post by Hayato Takeda on Jul 13, 2015 12:24:28 GMT
Hayato smiled at Naomi’s comment, it was often times annoying to remain in such formalities and with that mindset it was often times Hayato knew he forgot to maintain them even when meeting new people. It really though only got him in trouble when talking to his superiors, though it seemed that was more and more rare now a days. It seemed each day Hayato was just taking on more and more responsibility and work, it was a tiresome, but in a way rewarding, process.
“The betrayal of Inchumaru Gin, Sosuke Aizen, and Kaname Tosen, it has been quite some time. Well let me see, if I recall correctly it had turned out that your former captain Ichimaru Gin had turned on Aizen, he had in a way gotten close to him in the guise of being a traitor to the gotei. Instead though when times seemed their bleakest he tried to stop Aizen, however he had waited too long and Aizen stopped him taking his life in the process.”
Hayato paused a moment before answering the second part of the question, “As for Soul Society, for now it is safe. There are no known impending dangers that we are to worry about that impede upon the safety of those living within this walls or out of them. Of course that is outside of the normal disturbance we are accustom to.” Hayato would say calmly, trying to speak slowly as to let Naomi soak up all the information that he had to say. Hayato knew it would be a little tough to hear everything let alone understand it so he was more than willing to elaborate or go further, it was more he just wanted to give her the bare bones of it all at first. It seemed already based on the girls posture, looking down at the ground her shoulders slightly slumped that she was having a tough time adjusting to all the information she had already received.
“I’m sure you still have many questions. On top of the many that you probably have that you know I can’t answer. I am willing though to answer any you would like that I am able. It has been quite some time now that you’ve been asleep. It is only natural you might need refreshed on some things.”
So Gin had died. And he wasn’t a traitor; he had left with Aizen so he could foil his plot. Somewhere deep in Naomi’s heart she felt relief. It had been painful living with the thought and stigma that she had joined a division whose captain had betrayed those he had sworn to protect. Almost instantly she began to feel a little bit stronger. She felt sorry for her captain, but she could now be proud to be a member of the Sanbantai, and she would do her best to represent it with honour.
Naomi continued to listen to what Hayato had to tell her, keeping her head down and processing what he had to say. She couldn’t help but be gladdened at hearing that Soul Society was safe, at least for the time being. Hayato didn’t say it outright, but Naomi guessed that Aizen must have been defeated. There was no way Seireitei could be considered safe if he was still at large. Again this improved Naomi’s mood, though she felt a little chagrined that she had not be conscious for the event.
“Thank you,” Naomi said as she lifted her body up and straightened her back. “I feel a lot better for hearing what you’ve told me. You’re right though, there are a hundred questions that I want to ask you, but as you say, many of them you couldn’t answer. A lot of them are trivial little questions, or ones that are personal and revolve around my sister.” Naomi smiled at the thought of Toppa, and the thought of surprising her with the fact she had awoken for her coma. That would have to wait though, there were still a few more things she wanted to ask Hayato.
“Does my division, the Sanbantai, have another captain?” It was an obvious question, but one she knew she had to ask. “And have there been any major changes to the Gotei 13…?” she interjected quickly, before even giving Hayato a chance to answer her first question. Naomi went to add another query, but held back, realising she was getting a little ahead of herself.
Post by Hayato Takeda on Jul 14, 2015 20:40:22 GMT
Hayato nodded slightly as Naomi thanked him, he was glad to hear that his news had brought her at least a little sense of comfort. Hayato couldn’t help but think how much he had forgotten to tell Naomi as she asked about her squad. Of course he forgot to tell her all about the vizard. How would he even go about breaching that subject? It was a rather complex one not to mention their return to the serreitei.
“Well…” Hayato started thinking of how he wanted to phrase it, “Yes there have been some rather major changes to the line-up as it were. Specifically the captains of the divisions, all places have been filled as of now. Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi is your current captain, he along with several of his friends were able to help us in subduing Aizen’s plans. They were rewarded in the manner of becoming captains of the missing divisions once again. The name may seem slightly familiar if you are at all versed in the history of the serreitei. But I umm….” Hayato paused.
“I’ m not sure how to say it other than that they are vizard. They mean well and are good people but their dual shinigami and hollow nature has off put many and caused some to distrust them. They did however help us with Aizen, a task we alone would have been hard pressed to solve if we were able to alone. The remaining captains and lieutenant spots have been filled by them and if you want you can easily look them up or I can tell them to you. It might take some getting use to I think, but they seem to be in my opinion truly good people, who we should respect as the captains they now are.”
“I guess that’s not really a good explanation of everything. Other major changes I don’t recall of the late or over the years, most other things have remained as they were. You should be able to find everything just as it were when you left, or more or less , enough for you to navigate all of it with ease.”
Hayato took a breath, having finished his little speech letting out a little sigh before he began again, “How are you feeling? Any better from when you first woke?” It was a bit random a question, but it was in Hayato’s nature considering he was part of the fourth, and he did genuinely hope that she was starting to recover at least from the initial shock of it all.
Naomi listened intently as Hayato explained the changes to the Gotei 13. She was pleased that all the captaincy roles had been filled as the various vacancies had created some issues in both Seireitei’s administration and defence. Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi…, she had heard of his name somewhere before. Naomi scanned her mind, trying to locate something in her memory that related to him. Quickly she realised that she had not heard his name before, but in fact seen it written in a brief history on the Sanbantai. Many years ago, whilst still in the academy, Naomi had been reading up on the background of several of the divisions she had been interested in joining after graduating. She had come across Rōjūrō’s name one day and been perplexed by the lack of information on him; he had been promoted to captain and then after about a decade seemingly disappeared! Naomi had at the time put it down to an error on the author’s part, and paid it no further attention.
As Hayato continued, it became clear that there was more to Rōjūrō’s disappearance. The description of him and his companions having both shinigami and hollow nature’s unsettled her a little, but she swiftly began to change her mind. From the way Hayato spoke about them, and the fact that they were trusted and thought highly enough of that they were given high ranking position must make them trustworthy people. Naomi decided she would look forward to one day meeting her new captain as well as the other Vizard; then she could find out what they were like for herself and thank them for their aid in defending Seireitei.
As Hayato summed up what he had told her, Naomi began to reflect on how she had been feeling since awakening from her coma. It was apparent that a lot had taken place in the past few years, but also a lot remained the same. In truth she would have to take things as they came, and continue to endeavour, making whatever difference she could. Naomi began to feel buoyant in her mood and eager to answer Hayato’s query about how she now felt.
“Much better, thank you,” she said, swinging her feet a little as she sat. “Not just for knowing more about what has happened over the past few years, but also for feeling like I still have a place in the world. It may sound a little silly, but just hearing my division has a new captain makes me want to get up and show what I can do!” As Naomi said the final statement she pushed herself up from the bench. She was a little shaky, but managed to do so without wobbling too much. She turned to face Hayato, again moving without too much difficulty, a ridiculously proud smile plastered across her face.
“Looks like I’ve also got some of my strength back,” Naomi said giddily. “Call me crazy, but I feel like hitting the training field!” The over-enthusiastic shinigami froze for a second as she realised the foolishness of her announcement. “Oh, right. It’s still the middle of the night. And I should probably check into my division first. But, I mean, maybe in a couple of days once I’ve sorted a few things out, we could maybe train together or something if you wanted to, you don’t have to after all…,” Naomi tailed off sheepishly, realising she was rambling.
Post by Hayato Takeda on Jul 15, 2015 23:57:10 GMT
Hayato smiled glad to see that Naomi, although she seemed a bit distracted in her own thoughts, was in fact feeling a bit better.
“You need to worry. The times may change, but we don’t so easily get rid of our own, or so I like to think at least.” Hayato said calmly looking over at the girl, her feet swinging a little as she sat there, somewhat like a child when they are asked to sit and listen to their parents talk. However, then suddenly she sprang to her feet, Hayato doing the same as a reflex, afraid she might not be able to hold her own having just recently fallen.
It would seem though that was not the case, in fact Naomi had regained a nice amount of her strength or at least enough of it that she seemed able to support herself and move easily, albeit a bit slower than normal.
“It does indeed. Looks like you’re a fighter; not going to let a silly little thing like a three year coma keep you down. “ Hayato said with a smile as he looked over at Naomi. Hayato was about to speak again before Naomi corrected herself about the training grounds, although she would be able to, in her condition this certainly would not be the ideal time to go and try and push yourself with your skills. The girl continued talking slightly rambling, it was cute in a way seeing her speak like she did, so much to say, but who could blame her there was so much catching up to do for her, Hayato could completely understand where she was coming from.
“Training sounds like it might be a good idea. I myself have been bogged down in the hospital so much I think stretching my legs and honing my skills and techniques might be just what I need.” Hayato paused for a moment, “So yes, I would be more than glad to train with you Kaen-san.” Hayato said with a smile.
The man was always smiling, he had learned quite some time ago and enforced it more throughout working the fourth hospital that bad shit happens every day and there was little people could do about it, getting upset and sad over it did nothing, it was much better to remain positive, if not for yourself at least not to worry those around you, at least that was Hayato’s philosophy.
Within the couple of hours or so that she had been awake, Naomi had already managed to hold a conversation with someone that contained more than a few sentences and made a tentative agreement to meet up at a later date to train with said person. As far as she could remember, this was the first time she had been able to do this (without the other person being her sister) since entering Seireitei. This was quite a watershed moment for her. She had always struggled with social interactions, even with people she was somewhat familiar with. But for some reason (it couldn’t have something to do with the coma surely) she felt at ease talking to Hayato.
“Great,” Naomi said, “sounds like both of us could sharpen up our battle technique.” Naomi had always found it difficult to find someone willing to train with her. She didn’t really have any friends, and those she was acquainted with tended to be a little too competitive for her liking. Hayato seemed like someone that wouldn’t take things too seriously and go easy on her if she needed a break. The fact that he was trained in the medical arts came as an added bonus as well.
“Do you think I’d be ok to make my way back to my barracks then, Takeda-san? I know I’ve only just woken up from a considerably long coma, but I’m feeling ok at the moment, honestly,” Naomi finished, trying to sound as sure of herself as she could. She had noticed the way he got to his feet when she had jumped to hers, clearly worried she might not stay upright for long. Perhaps she was being a little hasty. She could afford to take things easy for a while; no one would blame her after all, would they?
Naomi sighed considering this option. “Unless, of course, you think I should stay in the hospital for a few more days?” She resigned herself to following Hayato’s advice. Although she had only just met him she felt as though she could really trust him to have her best interests at heart.

“Yeah I’ve certainly gotten rusty, especially if it comes to any duties outside of those in the fourth squad typically.” Hayato said with a laugh, “Training up on old ones and getting some new stuff under my belt would certainly help out with that.”
Hayato always had a feeling that he was unable to actually help out when it came to missions. It seemed the only thing he was really good at was healing injuries, but when it came to preventing them in the first place he had very limited resources to even pull from, he had stunted his growth in any field other than healing and it as of late had been coming back to bite him in the but as it were.
“Well you seem surprisingly better than I would expect. Not to mention how determined you seem at getting out of the hospital, not that I can really blame you. I suppose you would be ok to check back in with your squad, it’s a bit unorthodox considering the situation and time of day though. Would you mind terribly if I at least accompanied you to your barracks?” Hayato said calmly, “After all I should make sure at this time of night even if you weren’t in the weakened state you are that you make it back safely.”
“So allow me to see you back to your barracks and I will smooth things over with the hospital for your effective immediately discharge. Shouldn’t be an issue I think, and besides you’ll need to get reacquainted before we have our training together.” Hayato said with a smile.
A feeling of relief replaced the small amount of anxiety at the thought of staying in the hospital. Naomi was eager to get back to her barracks and start what she was sure would be the arduous process of getting reacquainted with her division. Hayato’s offer to accompany her on the way back was one too good to refuse. Having him there in case Naomi had a turn for the worse was a sensible precaution and, besides, she was nervous about making her own way back. Her brain still didn’t feel like it was firing on all cylinders and navigating back to the Sanbantai from an unfamiliar location was a daunting prospect.
“I’d be very grateful of that, Takeda-san,” Naomi said, half bowing. “I hope I don’t get you into any bother for letting me discharge so suddenly, though, not that I don’t doubt you’ll be able to smooth things over with the hospital….” Naomi tailed off, realising she was beginning to ramble again. “Sorry, shall we make a move back towards my barracks then?” the blue-eyed shinigami said, turning towards a nearby passageway that led away from the hospital. She considered it for a moment before moving to face another which went off in a slightly different direction.
“I think we should head off this way to get back to my division,” Naomi said almost confidently, having pondered enough. She began to move slowly towards the first passageway she had noticed, half hoping that Hayato would step in to confirm she was indeed going the right way or at least correct her. Whatever route Hayato suggested she would gladly take. Women’s intuition was something that Naomi lacked as well a basic sense of direction.
