The ride to the house is short, the limo being dimly lit with just Gage and Elan, filled with an aquard silence where Gage keeps his eyes out the window. He always had a hard time interacting with pretty women, not because he tries to impress them but because he tries to over analyze the things he says before he says them. It tends to make his conversation choppy and erratic. He has tried to get used to them but it seems to be over his head, the difficulties of real life conversation being more intimidating than getting into a one on one brawl with a hollow.
"Don't let him get to you. I know that he can seem a bit high strung but he means well. For the last ten years he has been looking for these masks, this one being the first one that he can get his hands on for many years. To have it slip through his hands because of another player active in the game is just upsetting. You have to forgive him and realize that he is doing this for the good of everyone, those masks are just too dangerous to be out in the world." Uncrossing her legs and recrossing them in the other direction she neatly places her hands on her knees. Her posture is tall, something that most people in the world lack and being so nice that it was actually hard to not point out.
"I am not mad at him. I should have been able to do something. The fact that I was useless just makes me feel like I was not ready for any of that. I just wish that I knew how in over my head I was." Gage rolls his shoulder as he tests the joint for any more damage, the healer that he had gone to had done something amazing, leaving him completely uninjured after several broken bones and bruising along his back.
"Well I am sorry that they didn't really inform you of the situation before putting you through all of that but that is why I am here with you now," Gesturing out the window she points up the long driveway to a mansion that they had begun to pull into. The front of the mansion was at least eight rooms wide, three stories tall at the center and two tall in the wings with a single tall tower coming out the far right side. The whole thing was rather magnificent. Pulling to a stop a man in a blue European suit opens the door and opens the door for the two of them. Gage climbs out first, holding his hand back to help Elan out but still looking over the massive building.
"You live here?" set just beyond the side walk the mansion is even larger now that he is closer to it, its tall walls and tower towering over him like it was trying to intimidate him. The white of the stone of the walls all seemed to almost glow in the setting sun, the light being just enough to highlight the walls and make it almost a supernatural building. Along its front wall underneath the windows a long row of bushes cut evenly seem to protect the house from the world like a wall. Inside the tall double windows massive blue curtains are tied with a golden rope, strung back to let in the setting sun.
Elan, taking the lead, starts up the sidewalk to the house passing a bird bath with some small koy fish swimming about in the water. Shooting water from his hand in the middle of the small bird bath a kneeling statue of a man holds his hand out over the water, keeping the water circulating.
At the front of the house the doors here loom over him in the same manner as the doors back at the casino, tall and wide enough to fit five men shoulder to shoulder. A man at the front door pushes the large wooden door open and lets the pair of them in, a huge foyer decorated with a large chandelier hung from the ceiling putting off flickering gold light that sparkles through the gems hung from its frame. On the walls there are multiple tapestries hung, shades of purple and blue with golden tassels at their base. "So what are we going to do here?" Gage couldn't help but ask. He has had the question on his mind the entire way here but did not know how he was going to ask but he couldn't wait anymore if this is where they were going.
"Here is where we are going to get you ready to fight 'Phantasm' again. We all know about him. He is effectively the Fullbringers bane. His spiritual energy is kind of our adverse version. Normally we draw our powers on the souls of other things through soul communication but he some how subdues the soul so that we cannot interact with the souls at all. For weaker Fullbringers that even mean being unable to use their own Fullbrings, its a dangerous power, one that we have had to work around as we have yet to figure out how to counter." Walking straight through the foyer they take a right down a small service hallway and stop at a metal door with iron bands on it. The bands, set into the door with large bolts, are a polished metal that matches the color of the door. Pushing the door open and letting him in first she shows him a massive room. Deeper and taller than the inside of the house should have allowed.
"You found a way around Phantasm? What does that even mean? There is a way to use Soul Communication without interacting with the souls of other items?" It didn't make sense to Gage. The whole point of soul Communication was that you needed a soul to interact with in the first place.
"No, there is no way to use Soul Communication without the souls of other items so we have spent a good amount of time figuring out how to fight him. We use our own souls. They cant be subdued by his powers and we always have access to them." Walking farther into the room she weaves some bookshelves and gets to a large clearing in the middle of the room. The floor, painted with a red pentagram of some kind, is tiled in a circular pattern that matches the painted design. "These techniques have been passed down through the generation for being able to fight him in particular and this is where all that knowledge and training is kept. Until my great grandfather figured out how to do these things we were forced to fight him with just weapons and armor, the death toll being heavy on us. This though has started to turn the tide."
Gage stops for a moment, something sounding wrong with what she said. "Wait, you said that you developed these techniques to fight him but this was designed by your great grandfather? How old it that thing? Phantasm?" Elan pulls a worn book off a nearby shelf and sets it on a nearby table, flipping through the pages while she talks.
"Phantasm is hundreds of years old. We don't know a lot about him or where he is from but we do know that he is not human. What ever he is, he is dangerous and he works for Char." Finding what ever page she was looking for she takes a seat in a chair at the table. Flipping to the next page she looks over them both before backing up a page again and looking over what she just read again.
Gage walks the book shelves, some of them not being in English and not having been read in a long time, obvious due to the amount of dust built up on them. "Who is Char?" Gage pulls one book down that has a symbol on it that he recognizes at the symbol of fire from a palm readers sign in Karakura Town. Flipping through the book it has a lot of writing speaking about the balance of the soul within and how to create fire one must reach a Zen and then tip that balance into anger.
"Char is a woman that does what Polarity does but on a more private sector. She is known for her less than moral ways of getting jobs done, more often than not leaving behind a wake of bodies but she charges less and sometimes there are people that don't care about the head count." standing up she keeps her hand on one part of the page rereading it one more time before heading to the center of the circle. "So this circle is a Way circle. It is actually built right on the intersecting lines of Reiatsu in the world. Because of that it makes it easier to learn Reiryoku techniques and makes it less of a drain on the body because rather than using your own spiritual energy while you are in the circle it uses the energy of the Way line. The pentagram on the ground disperses any energy that you put out, turning it back into the same energy that the Way line uses and lets the line carry it away. In essence you are able to funnel the energy for training before the current carries that energy away. This is where I am going to teach you how to use the techniques you are going to need to fight Phantasm."
Gage was actually get a bit excited. One of the Representatives from Polarity had told him that he was starting to lack in his Reiryoku techs area and that it was going to start costing his proficiency points but the opportunity to get that right now seemed like an amazing opportunity. Elan places one hand on her stomach and one palm on her forehead, speaking quietly to herself before a clear white bubble started to emerge from her head and grow large enough to fill the inside of the circle but not grow larger than the pentagram on the ground. Gage watches, curious as to what she was doing when she steps out of the circle, faster than his eyes could follow. It was not a stepping technique, it was something faster, it was honestly like she had literally sped herself up to a blinding blur.
"Well that should do it. We only have four days to get this down and it can take weeks to get the kind of training that you need. That being the case I have put this up. Its called a stasis spell. It only works on way lines and while its up it completely seals all my Reiryoku powers away, Fullbring included but while standing inside it the time will pass nearly thirty five time faster. That means if we work hard for the next two to four days we can get you about three or four months of decent training." Elan walks back to the book and closes it pushing it aside.
"Your files says that you have recently unlocked your own Reiryoku but you have yet to learn any of the actual techniques correct?" Taking a seat she crosses her legs and looks back at Gage. She had lost a lot of the mystery that Gage saw in her earlier, being less of a pretty girl and more of a instructor or teacher.
"Yes that's right, I learned how to see energy but nothing else. At least nothing that I know of," Gage knew that he had unlocked something recently but he had no idea what to do with that information so he just kept grinding on, training his Soul Communication physical body. Even his own ability to control his Reiatsu is something that he focused on but he lacked any direction on the Reiryoku techniques that he needed apparently.
"Well then here is where we are going to start. The first technique is Flare." It is performed by rotating your spiritual energy in two different directions and having the two rotating energies rub against each other. When a small flame is created you push your energy into that flame like a fuel and then you can control it from there. Once your energy is flaming you can also launch the flame like a dart, the bolt getting bigger with the more energy that you put into it. Why don't you step into the bubble and give it a try. From what I head your Reiatsu control is actually pretty good so you should be able to get this one down pretty quickly.
Gage nods, stepping into the bubble, the cold wall of what felt like water washing over him as he passes through the wall. Looking back Gage sees Elan sitting there, not moving at all, or at least moving so slowly that he can't see it at all. "Well I am here now, I suppose its time to get started." Gage takes a few minuets to concentrate trying to form his energy in the air but all he can feel is the energy in the air. So heavy and thick that he can feel his own energy he remembers that he is supposed to use that energy and not his own energy to perform this training.
Gage was at a loss, he could not feel his own energy, his ability to sense energy fogged over by the massive amount of Reiatsu that the Way point was putting off. Closing his eyes he focus's trying to get a clear view of the energy in the orb with him. While the energy was everywhere it was ambient, floating all around him like smoke from a fire. Doing what he would have done to get his energy moving if he could feel it he draws it out and into a circle around his hand, making the energy make laps the size of a basket ball. Where his energy would have been circling his hand the energy from the Way point instead circles, mimicking the motions.
"This must have been what she meant that the energy of the way point is used instead of your own. Controlling the circling energy was not hard, normally the energy being used in this fashion requiring you to multitask. One part being consistently supplied by the user and the other half being properly manipulated to produce the desired effect. It was actually a little easier than if he had to do it on his own, the lack of his own energy allowing him to focus on his technique of extinction rather than on the strength of the technique. Tightening the circle he shrinks the circling energy so that it was smaller and smaller, shrinking down to a softball then down to a baseball. Just the concentration of shrinking the sphere was taxing, having to push it smaller and smaller until it was the size of a golf ball. Floating this energy at the tip of his finger he was not sure how to make two of these things, just maintaining the first one being difficult.
Okay, well maybe I can create it on my other hand and put them together. Holding his left hand out slightly at an angle he repeats the process while trying to maintain the hold on the orb in his right hand. At first it seemed to work, the orb forming a bit large in his left hand and requiring more pressure to shrink down but it was shrinking none the less. Concentrating on the orb in his left hand he mindlessly began the same shrinking process in his right hand, crushing the already small orb into an even smaller orb. By the time that the sphere in his left hand had gotten down to the size of a golf ball the one in his right hand was down to the size of a mote, smaller than Gage was able to visibly make out the details in.
God that took forever. That was time consuming, difficult and slow progress just to make these two orbs, or more appropriately an orb and a mote of light. So just...touch them together and let them grind until the get hot enough to make a flame. Slowly bringing them together Gage takes a gulp, touching the small orb to the mote of light when the mote of light ruptures the orb. Exploding with the force of a small grenade Gage is launched backwards, his body hurling itself out of the orb and onto the ground several feet away.
Behind him he can hear Elan, laughing and trying to simultaneously contain her boisterous energy. "You were in there for only twenty seconds! Are you alright? Oh my god I have never seen anyone get blown out of the orb so quickly!" Standing up she walks over, reaching down and trying to help Gage back to his feet.
Struggling to his feet Gage stands up, catching his breath as the blast knocked the air out of him. Dusting himself off he coughs a bit and laughs," That was a first. I can't remember the last time that doing something wrong meant that you might blow up." Shaking his right hand he tries to get the feeling back into his fingers as the blast hand made them numb.
"What did you do wrong? I told you; two spheres, same size, opposite directions so that they grind and then flame. Once you have the flame put more energy into it and control the flame. That is it. It is so simple. I don't even know how you managed to get yourself blown out of the orb. Get in there and try again. Go, I don't even want to hear it. Shoo," bustling him away she nearly pushes him into the orb to get back at it.
Stumbling into the white fog of energy again Gage finds himself alone, looking out of the orb at a semi frozen Elan standing there with her arms still up from pushing him in. Laughing he concentrates, taking all the time he needs to get this one right. Creating two orbs simultaneously he holds them at arms length and pushes energy into them slowly while he simultaneously shrinking them, speeding up the rotation at the same time so that they are down to the size of a golf ball. Putting his hands together with the orbs at his finger tips he watches them touch, yellow sparks of energy flying off them. They were not spinning fast enough...separating his hands he tightens the rotating orbs and makes them spin faster and faster, so fast that there would have been no way for him to stop them without just letting them go.
Repeating the clasping motion he interlocks his fingers, the orbs touching and grinding against each other with enough speed and force the create a flame off the bat. The flame was small but now that it was created Gage was able to control it, pushing energy into the base like a fuel and flare its size up to that of a base ball. Shoving as hard as he can with his spiritual energy Gage was able to lob the flame dart, fast as a bala and as hot as molten metal. Hitting the orb wall it vaporizes, fading into a mist of blue white sparkling energy as the edge of the pentagram disassembles his energy and melds it back into the Way lines energy to be carried off with the current of the world.
Repeating the process Gage forms the circles, tightening the spirals, touching them together to form the flame and finally launching the dart off. Over and over he does this, in the small orb of time he spent over an hour, launching the darts off like a EXTREMELY slow gun. Each firing takes over a minuet but gets slightly quicker with repetition eventually getting down to about five seconds per bolt. While he was not using his own energy Gage was still getting exhausted, his form and stance getting weaker with each launch as his arms began to ache from holding themselves up. Taking a few minuets to catch his breath he finds himself pleased, Well its still a bit slow to be used in a fight but I think I got the execution down. Stepping out of the orb when he is normalized he smiles at Elan who had turned and ever so slowly just managed to sit down and turn to face him, the time difference making his past hour feel like two minuets to her.
"So how are you doing," She sits there, her attitude still happy from watching him explode from the orb only a couple of minuets ago. Gage really felt amazing, he was going to be a little sore in his arms but he was still feeling amazing with the fact that he was making ground. He had cut the time that it takes to fire off his Fire bolt from nearly five minuets of concentrating down to just under a minuet. While to any other caster it would feel like a small achievement, to Gage it felt like he had learned a new language. He was not good at speaking it but he was still able to speak it none the less.
"I feel good, I can feel my arms starting to get sore but I feel good," Gage started to rub his shoulders, his arms tired from holding themselves up. Gage could feel his stomach grumbling to him, upset that he has not made his tribute to it yet for the afternoon. "I don't suppose you would have any food here that I might be able to get a bite of would you?"
Elan laughs, it was a sweet laugh, half restrained and the other half boisterous. It really seemed more like she was genuinely enjoying herself that she should have. "Yes, we have some food in the kitchen, if your hungry we can take a break. I do advise that you take the break in the orb though. We are short on time and you shouldn't be out here taking your time to snack." Standing up she smooths her dress and gestures back the way that they came. "The kitchen is over here, lets go get you something to fill up on and you can get that over with and we can get you back to work"
