Liam rolled to the side as the glob of acid impacted the stone floor of where he had been standing a scant few second ago. The low hissing of the scorpion-like hollow in front of him echoed throughout the small forest surrounding the shine, announcing its' displeasure of not being able to hit its' prey.
This little dance of theirs had been going on for quite some time now. With Liam ducking and dodging around the swiping of the Hollow's pincers and narrowly dodging the globs of acid fired from its' tail. While Liam's spiritual power was quite potent compared to an ordinary human. He shared their vulnerability and general squishiness.
Sure, That Man had hinted at him that there were ways for someone of his blood to amplify his own durability and even his speed. But the Old Fart was being annoyingly tight lipped about how the techniques worked. Stating something about the "purity of his blood." or about how he was not ready to master such power.
Needless to say, keeping such information from Liam had annoyed him quite a bit. So once again, he stormed off in a huff. Once again leaving a family member alone.
One short train trip later and he found himself in Naruki city. Taking his time to enjoy the sights and sounds of somewhere new. It was quite a refreshing change, while Karakura town was by no means small. It didn't quite match up to how big the neighboring city was.
It was due to a mixture of bad luck and the fact that he had a great deal of anger to take out on something that he was in his current situation. Dealing with a rather annoying Hollow that saw him as a tasty snack.
Perhaps it was due to his anger that he had kept the fight going this long, he was simply working out his anger as he had actually crippled the Hollow at this point. Having damaged the creatures legs a great deal with his arrows to the point where it could no longer move and simply attempted to spray him with acid.
"I am sorry." Liam apologized to the beast, focusing the Reishi particles in the air as his revolver began to slowly change shape into an old-fashioned rifle. While he deeply regretted severing the beast from the cycle of reincarnation, there was nothing else he could do. He was not skilled enough to contain it, and he could hardly let it roam free.
Letting his blast fire free, the Reishi arrow pierced the Hollow's mask. Drilling itself straight through the beast. Killing it instantly. "Please. Forgive me." He murmured, his voice heavy with regret.
Letting his weapon dissipate, Liam let himself slump against a nearby tree. Waiting for the adrenaline of the battle to wear off before he made his way back into the city.

"Come sit with me beside the fire, We'll watch the flames as they grow higher But when the flames fade and die, There'll just be darkness, and you and I."
The voice floated softly from the roof of a building, the singer sitting in the centre on a chair that had been left out by the tenants of the rooms below. Washing whipped around on their line, the streets below bustling around and the smell of city fumes rising up.
"So I'll tell my tale as fast as I can, I don't want to be left here, with that man. What man? The man they call spring heeled Jack, With the flowing cape and eyes jet black. Ten feet tall I've heard them say, He prowls the streets, just looking for prey."
On prey he stood, and resumed his patrol across the rooftops, seemingly walking to the edge and in a blur of movement, he appeared on the roof across from him. His black kimono floating behind him gently on the wind and his red hair ruffled, slightly windswept by the sudden movement. He strolled up to the edge of the building and watched the scene in the distance going on.
"Over his shoulder he carries a sack, And everyone fears old spring heeled Jack What sack ? Well! in this sack is a pair of shoes, You must have read about him in the news ? No? well the shoes are fitted with shiny springs, He can jump over houses, and almost anything."
His voice had slowed to a absent murmur, more focused on the battle between quincy and hollow that was going on below. Well, battle was stretching it. Looked more like the quincy was torturing the beast. As the killing blow was made and the quincy settled to the floor, the man stepped off the roof. He fell the many stories, seeming to slide on an invisible slope at the bottom and landing crouched. Straightening up, and walking forwards. He knew his spiritual control would have been nothing compared to the quincy, his position flatlined as soon as the battle was over, showing his control.
"And when the kids are asleep in bed He jumps up onto the window ledge. And peering through, he taps with his hook! With his jet black eyes, he just stares and looks. What hook ? The hook that he uses to grab his prey, Slams them in his sack and steals them away."
Moving towards the shrine where they had been fighting, he walked arrogantly up the path towards the shrine area, he did not know exactly where the quincy was. But his guard was raised, just because the quincy had looked tired, does not mean he was. Brushing his hip where a quincy had speared his side before when he was careless.
"But if your curtains are shut real tight, This might help too block his sight. So remember this, and all that I've said, And when you're tucked up snug in bed, If you hear the tapping on your window pane, it's probably just the sound of halloween rain."
He drew to a stop a few meters from where he had sensed the quincy, not wanting to give him the range to attack. Though at this point, he would not know where he was until he showed himself. So flashing out his reiatsu, he waited to be attacked, or wondering whether he had missed the personified threat to the balance of the spirit world.
"At least it isn't a Hollow." Liam told himself as he felt the reitsu of the Shinigami permeate the air. It was a vaguely familiar energy, it took him a moment to place it as the same one he had met that one stormy night. Dealing with a full blown Hollow nest in the midst of some abandoned warehouses.
It was also the same night he met a rather energetic girl with odd Hollow-like powers. He hadn't really cared enough to devote much time for dwelling over such an event. From what he could tell, supernatural dealings were rather commonplace.
But he supposed that he might as well get this over with. There was a high chance that this was going to be something of a bothersome situation. "You know, had you shown up earlier. We might have been able to save a soul here." Liam called out to where he was rather sure the Shinigami was hiding. Rather annoyed at the whole idea of the one being who could have saved the unfortunate soul only showing up AFTER Liam had destroyed it.
It was times like this, the boy was certain that the world enjoyed playing cruel jokes on him. It was the only explanation he could come up with when a situation like this arose.
"No need to thank me for doing your job or anything." He snarked out, hoping to at least get some sort of rise out of the new arrival.

As soon as the quincy spoke, he walked around the corner to the source, a man he recognised from a distant memory in some warehouse. Or maybe that was someone else. All quincies looked the same to him, all self righteous, arrogant bastards with a stick up their ass and an arrogance afforded only to those who think they have tricked the Soul Society. But back to the current situation, it had not really occurred to him to save the hollow, there were millions of hollow, one that was in the public dead was not really going to throw the world out of order. He restrained himself from pointing out that if the quincies had stepped aside when the Shinigami asked, they would not be there to kill the souls, and to blame the shinigami from not saving the souls from the quincies. "I appreciated what you did. But you know as well as I do that I cannot let you walk away again." He was like...80% sure he had met this guy before.
He let his kimono slip off of his shoulders, freeing his arms and drawing his sword, he held it low and waited for the quincy to move. He would not throw the first punch, but he would not let him walk away if he tried. Just because he was squad 11 did not mean he was bound to a fair fight, stabbing in the back was no where near the top 10 worst things he had done.
So it seems his guess was right. The Reitsu did match the same Shinigami he had met before. A man who introduced himself by nearly impaling an innocent girl. His eyebrow arched upwards as a sword was drawn against him. "Seriously? You taking me out because of my blood? Or is it because I make you look bad by doing the job you were supposed to do?
Liam honestly hoped it was the latter reason, however foolish it might be. He never asked for his heritage, he never asked to see ghosts or to fight Hollows. And he certainly had no wish to get involved in the politics of the spiritual world.
But it seemed like fate wished to force it upon him. There was a Shinigami standing before him, sword drawn. Intent on either taking him back to Soul Society or simply cutting him down where he stood. But before they could exchange blows, Liam held up one hand to halt the Death God. "I took care of it, you can come out now."
From the side, poking around a tree, a small shape appeared from the undergrowth. It was a young girl, no older than seven. With dark hair and matching eyes the girl would have looked rather unassuming if not for the chain embedded within her chest.
"Before I kick your ass and hopefully beat the stupidity out of you. Be a good boy and send this soul off will you?" He asked, jerking his head towards the ghost of the young girl, who seemed to be rather frightened of the imposing Shinigami pointing a blade at the same boy who had just saved her from becoming a Hollow's meal.

For the first time in years, the smile on the mans face was genuine. He shook his head slowly, "If only I could say it was something as political as that. Part of my duty. Only doing this to stop you slaughtering more spirits. But it shames me to have a real reason so petty, it is quite simple really. I am Yorishou Kiyoshi of the 11th division and if my squad mates find out I saw a quincy and did not at least try to kick your ass, I will never hear the end of it" It was as he said, a petty reason to fight. And he hated to fight for petty reasons, but it was still a viable reason. Kind of.
When the girl came out, the quincy acted like it was a game changer. But releasing souls was a dime a dozen shinigami act, stepping over to the girl, his sword flashing out and the hilt gentling tapping her head, putting a leg between her feet and pushing straight off towards the quincy, if they were going to fight then he had no intention of giving him the advantage of range. Quincy were dangerous at range, but generally pathetic at close range, he hoped this guy was the same. When he got closer he would start with a feeble jab, goading the quincy to the fight. There was a limit to what he could do next to that tree, not wishing to get his sword stuck in the wood and losing valuable seconds. "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough".
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Liam deadpanned as the Shinigami explained his reasons for attacking him. Temporarily switching his language back to English so as the young girl who was being sent off would not pick up any words that she should not.
He had expected the Shinigami to attack as soon as he had sent the little girl on her way. If he was going to fight Liam over something as foolish as peer pressure. Then he probably didn't have much of a concept of fighting fairly or for honour. If it was at all possible, Liam's respect for the spirit had dropped even lower than before. He was never one for foolish machismo. And it seemed that he was right with his first guess. This was an issue with his blood after all. If he was never born a Quincy then he would not have to worry about the affairs of the spiritual world. He would never have been bothered by ghosts. And most importantly, he might have even had a family.
His Reitsu flared up angrily as his thoughts turned dark. If this asshole Shinigami wanted a fight for such a stupid reason. Then Liam would give him one. Hopefully beating him to the point where he would think before he acted.
"Fine then!" He snarled, reaching out with his spiritual senses in order to take hold of the abundance of Reishi in the air. He would hold off on using his bow for now, it seemed that the Shinigami preferred to fight close ranged. So Liam had no intention of letting the Death God have any advantages.
"Tachiban!" He called out, summoning the five condensed orbs of spiritual energy to hover around his body. With a flick of his wrist two of the orbs flew out, impacting the ground in front of him before the Shinigami could get close. Exploding and kicking up a great deal of dirt and dust, obscuring vision but not the ability to sense Reitsu.
With another gesture, Liam send out his third orb. Hoping to catch the Shinigami off-guard after he was hopefully disoriented by the ground in front of his feet exploding.

He should have seen that coming, 20-20 hindsight. What did he expect, that the quincy would appease his want to fight in close combat? That was stupid thinking. Cursing himself for his ignorance of obvious tactic and vowing to practice in later sessions. The first two orbs sent out smashed into the ground, kicking right up into his face and the dust getting into his eyes, none settling in his eyes or body however. That was good, it meant the dirt was not infused with anything, just a distraction. However that led to his second mistake, or, because of an already existing flaw. The quincy powers, the first two orbs and the dirt led him oblivious to the third orb.
Flying backwards with a sharp gasp of pain as it slammed into his chest and exploded. He slammed into the ground, rolling twice before getting to his feet and sliding backwards, his sword in the ground to brake. A throb of pain remained on his chest, looking down and seeing a hole to his skin through his clothes. He growled, the 11th division member awakening inside of him. He generally hated people who like fighting, but adrenaline was another thing all together. He would have no chance in the cloud of dust where the quincy could sense and pick him off, so he waited, half crouched, left hand on the floor and right hand holding his sword at head height to block an attack from the cloud. His shikai allowed for twice his normal speed but he would hold that in reserve until he knew how strong the quincy really was, so far all he had was party tricks.

He couldn't stop the smile that crept across his face from widening as he felt his technique blast the Shinigami backwards. It served the foolish spirit right. Starting a fight for no good reason was just plain pointless. It was enough to anger Liam to the point where he might as well stop holding back against this Death God.
From what he could feel of his opponent's Reitsu, Liam might actually be the weaker one in this equation. So a clash of raw power was out of the equation. He would have to fight pragmatically if he wanted to come out of this fight on top.
Not that he would settle for anything less.
Still sensing the Shinigami through the cloud of dust. Liam's mind quickly whirred into motion as he came up with a new plan of attack. Since attacking up close was the height of stupidity. He would keep his distance and use every tool in his arsenal in order to keep his opponent on his toes.
Noticing that the dust was slowly clearing. Liam figured that he should act quickly in order to keep his advantage. Firing off the second last of his Reishi orbs. The condensed sphere of energy rocketed forward through the dust. Looking as if it was prepared to strike the battle-hungry Shinigami. Only for it to instead impact the ground right in front of him. With the impact of the strike kicking up more dust and possibly causing the Shinigami to dodge out of the way. Liam's second move would come into action.
His opponent would then possibly be completely unprepared to deal with the sudden barrage of spirit arrows fired from within the dust cloud. With Liam relying on his superior Reishi sensing ability to keep track of his opponent from the other side of the obscuring cloud.

He grinned as the quincy revealed his location, another orb whizzed past to where he used to be as he rushed forwards. He heard the explosion behind him, so, the quincy was trying to reply his tactics. Well if that one move is all he has then this boy was in for a world of hurt. Yorishou went straight through the first dust cloud which was starting to settle, again, none of it touching him. He stood up straight, using the inferior spirit sensing skills, but seeing he had no need to. Straight in front of him in the cloud, possibly outside of it, which seemed more likely. The quincy energy flared, a barrage of arrows piercing the dust towards him. The concentrated stream of arrows was not an original move however.
Yorishou stepped to the side, his sword morphing into a large hammer as he slung the hilt over his shoulder and slammed it straight into the incoming arrows, shattering their path with the superior reiatsu in the ability. He kept the hammer spinning, moving it down and over his shoulder again, spinning as he did so and leaping out of the cloud higher into the air, and bringing it down where the Quincy would be standing below. Spinning sideways in the air and looping the hammer around so it would hit the quincies chest from the front.
name: The Bone Breaker class: Weapon skill type: Offensive range: Close tier: III description: Using this ability shrouds the users sword in a giant reiatsu hammer which is 7ft long from the sword handle with a 3ft barrel head. This weighs the same as the sword to the user, does tier III blunt, brute force damage and weighs 280lbs to the points of impact. Lasts 6 posts.
He could feel the Shinigami moving as he unleashed his barrage of arrows. Rather annoyed that his gambit failed, having wanted to end the fight with the minimal expenditure of his own energy. But his opponent was either too stubborn to give up or too stupid to understand that this fight was a pointless venture.
If the Shinigami won, congratulations. He suffered some wounds while fighting a teenaged neophyte Quincy. It was hardly a glorious conquest. Perhaps if Liam was more skilled it might have meant something. But since the Irish teen was quite the weakling in the grand scheme of things. The Shinigami would have had more of a productive day from hunting down a troublesome Menos.
Liam seriously didn't get this guy.
As Liam's opponent raced towards him with their new technique prepared. Liam changed his tactics accordingly. It seemed that what he was dreading was coming true. His clash with this Shinigami may end up turning into a clash of raw power after all.
While he had a feeling that he would fall short in that regard, he was hardly going to call it quits. The revolver in his hand began to glow and change shape. From a handgun to rifle, Liam hoisted his changed bow to his shoulder, gathering a large amount of Reishi into a singular point. The arrow launched from his rifle at the spiritual hammer with the speed and power comparable to that of a Hollow's Cero.
At extreme close range no less. No doubt with enough force to either completely cancel out the Shinigami's attack and potentially knock him back or do some damage simply due to the raw power behind the arrow.
His opponent would then possibly be completely blindsided by the final orb of reishi firing off to hit him as he was recovering from the overcharged arrow.

Too late to stop, too late to stop...shiiiiiiiiiiiiii- "Snap out of it moron" Hm? "Yeah, two of us in here remember. You said you would think and that is all you seem to not be doing." Gee thanks. "Think then, close range, powerful" Ok...? "Let me take the hit" What? Then I lose you. "No you don't" Oh yeah...
Swinging the hammer in front of him as the shot charged up, he released it, throwing it into the blast. The hammer shattered away as the shot hit it, sending the blade flying away. He swung to the left as the blade sliced through the air next to him, too fast to grab but that was not a problem. Yorishou side stepped the last orb, knowing it would come through the dust as it was the tactic the quincy had used mere minutes ago. Maybe he really only did know one tactic. He fell through the dust, pulling out the sword which had returned to him and striking the quincy on his arm, spinning low and the striking him on his hip but neither strike doing any damage or impact. Then flipping backwards into a low crouch, one leg outstretched and the blade held backwards in a horizontal pose.

He has had enough of this. Not only has his opponent deflected one of his strongest attacks. But he had somehow seen through the cloud of smoke such a collision would kick up and dodged his final Reishi orb. There was little point in continuing with such a fight. He had seen the difference in their ability and Liam lacked the experience or techniques in close quarters in order to keep up with someone like this.
Perhaps such an outcome was to be expected. He was dealing with an opponent who presumably had decades of experience over him. The silver lining of this situation was that Liam had been the one to deal first blood with not a single blow to himself.
Perhaps it was best that he quit while he was ahead.
Bringing his rifle up, Liam managed to block the initial strike from his opponent. He was fortunate enough to see such a strike coming. Having seen the Shinigami perform the technique once before after he had nearly impaled that girl at the warehouse. Liam knew that the loss of his weapon was a temporary setback for his opponent at best.
Jumping backwards out of range for the followup strike. Liam growled as he gathered more Reishi from the air to form into a series of familiar orbs around him. "Consider this a respite." He spoke cooly, his voice laced with barely constrained hostility. "Remember who scored first blood. Remember who remained untouched.
Liam told himself that he would not hate the Shinigami. That he would not allow himself to stoop to the level that other members of his race might go. There was little reason for him to dislike the race as a whole, for they had done nothing to him.
The Death God in front of him had changed that. His first encounter with their race involved a fight for such a foolish reason. What else was he to feel for them but contempt?
With a flick of his wrist, each of the orbs would begin to pound the earth in front of him. Throwing up dust and preventing the Shinigami from advancing towards the teenaged Quincy. Drawing his own Reitsu into himself, Liam used the technique that the Old Fart had drilled into him so many times that it had practically become second nature. Throwing up a field of Reishi meant to deflect any attempts at sensing him.
By the time the dust settled and the Psychopomp could advance, Liam would be gone.

As the dust settled, Yorishou saw his opponent had run. The mark he had left on his opponent could have been activated and taken the quincy out, the fact he had blocked with his rifle changed nothing. But he had other duties to take care of he thought, as he picked up another hollows reiatsu. In a blur of movement, he was gone, leaving the shrine with several large craters and a settling dust over the fight that to the mortal world, never happened. As he left, he pondered upon what they would think caused the disruption to the area. Maybe lightning? Meteors? Ignorance is bliss. The humans would be lucky if the only things in life to be afraid of were natural disasters. But he knew, and so did many others, that a darker force stirred in the world.
Jumping up and running along a wall, he thought of his fight with the quincy, and the way he left. Obviously the quincy was like all the others, brave until the battle was even and then they run, but its the way he did it. This guy was cocky enough to take out a hollow, even torture a hollow in a city. But then using the same tactic three times and running when he got close. It did not add up. And he had a feeling that was not the last time they would meet...
