Of all the places to be in Karakura Town, the night carnival was truly it. The carnival had only recently come to town and it planned on staying open into the witching hour and possibly until twilight, where it would then close and continue its routine the next sundown. Exciting, right? Well, Karakura Town seemed to think so. People were lined up at the gates hours prior to opening, some holding the hands of their children while others were snug tightly in the arms of their dates. Lana stood at the entrance of the carnival her hands tucked inside the sleeves of her cardigan, a large group of teenagers from her school standing only a few feet away from her. She had only just arrived a few minutes prior to opening and somehow she found herself a decent place in line, behind a man and his two children and in front of a woman and her son.
As the park opened, the line began to move and a soft yawn escaped the girl's pale lips as she brushed strands of her from her face. She wondered what it would be like to be here with her family; her mother on one side taking in the view and her father on the other, explaining the complexities and technicalities that it takes to run such a massive establishment. And she would sit and listen, smiling, and taking in her father's words with each passing breathe, chiming in whenever she could. Of course, her life was not built in such a manner and because of this these were only dreams fabricated from the mind of silly and delusional girl. Lana had no real family aside from the creators that had long abandoned her after destroying her entire clan of brothers and sisters. They had taken sympathy on her, as they did not perceive her as a true threat to the Shinigami and in truth she wasn't a threat. Call it luck, but her pacifist nature was the only thing that allowed her sanctuary that day, and she was forever grateful.
Growing more anxious with each step, she was mentally debating which ride she should try first, although she did plan to ride them all of course but there problem of where to stop still remained. There were so many roller coasters and so many simply rides that it was almost overwhelming. Lana half laughed once she ducked behind a large family and made her way towards the most childish of rides: the tea cups.
Her laughter only served to escalate when she imaged her friends from school calling her childish while she stood in line. It was amusing to her to think of her friends laughing at her while she let loose her inner toddler, waiting anxiously, and bouncing in anticipation for the next available cup to open. She didn't mind sitting with a family, frankly she would much prefer it than sitting alone. Hands locked together behind her back a smile shaped her curved lips. She was closer to being the next person to board. Hopefully she wasn't doing it alone.
Toshi looked around, apprehensively. Oh the calamity! The shame! The travesty! It was all he could do to prevent himself from writhing at the seething wrongness of it all. Yes, the once-great delinquent and street-punk Toshi "that-guy-with-the-gaijin-name-and-the-car-breaking-punches" Dunson was here, having been reduced from the great and impressive and much feared demon of the streets to a person who goes to family carnivals and worse, oh so much worse. He'd snuck in by jumping the fence- he had to do something at least remotely badly behaved even if his reputation would be irreparably damaged either way. Having said that, most other delinquents were part time troublemakers, full time idiots so he could probably just feed them any old cock-and-bull story.
It was then that Kanaboshi and Kasei appeared upon his wrists. Yes, the two Hogo-sha, looking for all the world like the world's most incredibly realistic animatronic hand-puppets had rendered him completely handless as they sat, snake-like atop the joint where his hands were supposed to be. He regarded them with disdain as their wide eyes were round. He'd decided that for the sake of the carnival, he could pretend that they were just a kitschy toy as opposed to actual people and he would simply be the world's best ventriloquist or some bullshit like that.
"Toshi! Toshi! The teacups the teacups can we pleeeease go on the teacups, pleeeeease?" Kanaboshi asked, the little green haired girl bobbing up and down excitedly, dragging Toshi's arm with his. He looked over at the teacups and scowled at her, before rapidly turning his head and rounding on Kasei, who was brown haired and had an exquisite little face.
"Wh- wh- what? N- no- no don't ask me!" she said, her lower lip trembling at the severe look he was casting her. He drew himself up to his full height and declared in a Thespian voice:
"I hereby declare us the next patrons of these here teacups!" he said, before marching into the queue which seemed somewhat to part before him as he was brandishing two strangely realistic looking hand puppets and looked vaguely important. They sidled along, the two girls waving happily a the people around, and Toshi's face still drawn into a pained look.
He joined the queue behind a pretty petite pink-haired girl. She was maybe a head shorter than Toshi but his throat clenched up when he saw her. Despite how much of a legend he had been in the corridors of Karakura high and how whispers still crept through the halls of Touhou university of a strange blonde-haired punk who lay down the law and protected female students from the evils of perverts, Toshi was still awful at talking to girls.
"Hey miss, do you mind if we ride the teacups with you?" Kanaboshi asked her, sparing Toshi from the inevitable embarrassment of stuttering and mumbling. Perhaps she would find it strange to see a person with incredibly realistic hand-puppets approaching her and asking in the voice of the puppet if he could ride the teacups with her.
Off all the things Lana had learned since her creation, one of the biggest things that history taught her was that some Humans were weird. No, like they're really fucking weird. She had seen a lot of weird looking Humans back in her day, most of them turned out to be sexually frustrated nerds that had been seeking her attention for a while. Most of the time Lana had enough experience to know how to get those guys to leave her alone. As per norm, she turned around and eyed the boy curiously. She took notice of his entire appearance, raising her champagne eyebrows as soon as she noticed the puppets floating beside him. Now for a Mod Soul, Lana was a nice girl. She didn't pay any attention to bad things, and was always optimistic. She made emotional connections easily and for the most part, she was overall a free-spirited girl; but there was something about those puppets that freaked her out. He was nothing like the other Human boys she had met. Mouth agape and slightly taken aback, her hands cupped behind her and she was forcing a small smile on her face, Standing on her tip toes she was now staring right into the doll's eyes, and something caught her attention. This was boy wasn't like other Humans, he had a decent amount of reiatsu pumping from his frame and she knew that he was special and that this little puppet was a byproduct of his spiritually aware prowess.
"Hmmm? My aren't you a cute little thing? Adorable. I don't mind if you ride the tea cups with me, beats going alone right? I'm Lana by the way, and who might you and your stunning little family be?"

Toshi's lower lip wobbled slightly, and he had to try incredibly hard to cringe as he saw this girl's look of horror. "God dammit Kanaboshi you've blown it now." he said to her, psychically within his own head. She apologised to him wordlessly, still beaming at the pink-haired girl who Kana thought was really cute. Lana forced her face into a smile, which turned Kanaboshi's cheery face into a large grin. She simpered and purred when Lana said she was cute. Kasei, the pretty brownhaired hogo-sha upon Toshi's other hand came to look dolefully at Lana so Toshi was stood with his two arms extended awkwardly before one another.
"Thanks miss!~ <3" Kanaboshi said, extending her hand to shake Lana's though it was so small that she could probably only manage a single finger. "My name is Kanaboshi- it's the same as the planet! And this is Kasei-" at this, Kanaboshi would have ceased her shaking, had the offer of such been taken up, and drag Kasei into the centre of Lana's field of vision. She waved shakily, her beautiful pale skin becoming even paler.
"Do- dou-" she winced at her own embarrassment. "Douzou Yoroshiku!" she exclaimed, eyes shut in fear as she bowed, her face filling with red, and tears glistering in the corner of her eyes. Toshi rolled his eyes at the little hogo-sha. Kasei used to be so damned confident! She'd simply retreated inside herself now and was only a few steps away from a gibbering wreck. He looked past the two hogo-sha at the girl, and smiled wanly at her, with the air of a father slyly laughing at the exploits of his young daughters to another adult who could also find them amusing. Kanaboshi had patted Kasei on the back but she'd turned around by now, and was clinging tightly to Toshi's chest.
"And this is Toshi!" the green haired hand-being said. "What's your name miss- oh look the line's moving we can go on!" she chirruped happily.
“There’s no need for any words right now. You and I, our eyes are talking. Don’t say anything, there’s no need for words. Softly come to my wet lips and kiss me. The typical words of I love you Seems special tonight. Why is my heart beating so fast? Now it is time.

Was this actually happening? Was she really shaking hands with a miniature, talking puppet? What kind of things did this Human like to get himself into? The puppets talked with such a child-like finesse that it made her tilt her head to the side in curiosity and take a further examination of these...things. He had to rank as one of the strangest Humans she had seen yet. Pity, cause once Lana took a moment to examine the puppet master she could see that he wasn't an ugly man in fact he was actually rather attractive, but it was that alluring creepy vibe that she got from him that really put her off her tea so to speak. It was a shame for Lana to think in such a manner, he had put such personality and detail into each puppet that they were almost like real Human children. She couldn't help but ponder whether or not he was lonely with piss poor social skills and that the puppets were his way of communication.
"My name is Lana."
Stop. Wait a minute. Hadn't she already said her name? Were they really not listening to her a few moments prior? She couldn't help but feel slightly offended at this. However, acting on her character she ignored this and shook the thought from her mind, before turning around to see something that made her face light up. The line was moving now. Just her luck. Lana turned around and began heading towards the entrance of the giant teacups. As she stepped inside the giant bowl cup she moved towards the far right of the seat and immediately gripped onto the wheel that allowed her to spin the cup in circles once the ride started moving. Her eyes watched the puppets continue to float over the boy's hands, the green haired fairy still clinging to the man's chest. It was peculiar but Lana paid no mind to it. She was ready for this ride.
"Are you going to do me the honor and ride with me or will I be forced to ride alone?"
"And I'm sorry miss- the girls have terrible memories." Toshi said before laughing, the sound rich and full, covering for Kanaboshi's blunder upon seeing a slight look of something that seemed perhaps to be uncertainty upon Lana's face and clocking the mistake. The green haired girl turned as red as her companion, but her rosy complexion was lost in the rigmarole of clambering into the cup, where the green haired Kanaboshi symbolically placed her hands upon the wheel with Lana's, though she was far too small to actually turn the damned thing. "Uuuh, but uhm." Toshi stammered as Kasei, the brown haired girl, tugged the door of the cup closed with gargantuan effort. "Lana is a pretty name." he said with a little nervous laugh, this one more tinny than the last.
He waited with baited breath for the rest of the customers to get on. Fairgrounds always had a magical ambience to Toshi- the lights strung up everywhere, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy, the strange childhood qualia associated with christmas parades and regatta festivals back home. He was lost in thought, and only snapped back to reality when the lurch of the cup signified the beginning of the ride.
