Ah, summer festivals. Eleanor thanked her lucky star (which, given the surprisingly low amount of light pollution in this part of Karakura, were plainly visible in the early evening sky) as she made her way through the crowd as best she could without colliding with anyone. She'd been taking a walk through the land of the living at just the right time and place to stumble onto this. Games and contests and songs all blended together into a celebration of...actually, she wasn't entirely certain. This seemed to be a holiday of some sort, but she wasn't even fully familiar with all the modern holidays in her native England, much less here in Japan. When you predate many of the figures being celebrated, it became hard to keep up.
Slightly jealous of everyone with a visible, physical body, she contented herself with watching the human interaction, occasionally intervening subtly for amusement's sake (helping telekenetically guide a ball to hit a target and win a prize for a delighted 7 year old was more fun than it probably should have been, but the arrancar didn't regret it). The only issue, semi-physicality aside, was that with so many people around, this would be a prime target for other, less discerning types. Maybe even shinigami to prevent it. She tried to keep her reiatsu down, but the quicksilver robes she wore were less simple to disguise. She kept an inner-eye out as best she could for other spiritual pressences, in case she had to make herself scarce. It rather spoiled the fun a bit, but if someone showed up, at least she'd have a chance to talk to someone, even if it came to blows.
For a being with no direct need for external stimulation, Cyrus was downright bored of this town in his brief stay. It was, how do you say, quaint? Except quaint had a sort of appeal even in its blandness. No no. This Karakura Town was of a uniquely uneventful variety that left Cyrus reeling in his own boredom. Even this festival of sorts he'd wondered to wasn't anything to write home about, if he hadn't already blown up the damned facility he'd called it. It was too bad anyways for he was doomed to stay here for Seran's intent's and purposes. The wack job told him to get out and do something and here he was, bitter as all hell about it.
Until he saw her.
He'd happened upon the eclectic group of ghosts that call home to Karakura but she seemed more....ancient. And with her apparent age came some regality. Cyrus had liked to have thought those tacky old robes of hers were more symbolic than just a leftover Halloween ensemble. K-town was full of surprises and Cyrus wasn't exactly shy about scanning any slight occurence out of the ordinary in this place. It may have been maddeningly bland, but the souls in decreasing scarcity had started becoming the town's saving grace. The Alpha's reiatsu infused cybernetic implants began their initial scan on the woman and the data was...inconclusive as hell. Her reiatsu was low but his sensors could tell it was being suppressed to a degree. The sensors analyzed the woman's age through the density of her latent reiatsu and....this broad sure was ancient, almost 5 times Cyrus's own age. And finally, she was, well what the hell's that mean? A hollow....but in human form? Cyrus used the Alpha's jailbird to unravel a portion of his arm from quite a few feet away from her and projected a question as a whisper into her ear.
"What are you? May I speak to you, hollow in sheep's clothing."
{Arsenal} Name: Alpha Class: Vessel Tier: V Type: Supplementary Description: The Alpha is Cyrus's original gigai and as such is his most comfortable and easiest to utilize. When not in use it has the appearance of a standard issue gigai, but when used it features Cyrus's standard appearance or a pink mohawk and slim athletic build. The soul pill is located dead center of the collarbone area. Alpha features a few modifications that offer Cyrus moderate utility. The most major modification comes in the form of the jailbird, which allows the user to have a body formed of double helix-wound inch thin silver strings capable of unwinding and unraveling their body out to a maximum of 25 meters. The jailbird can stitch wounds closed instantly and also act as a conductor of sound waves for espionage purposes over the distance that can be unraveled as well as defensive reactions against movements. Finally the jailbird's double helix form is composed of various möbius strips. The property and characteristic of a möbius strip is that it only has one side and one boundary component. For the user this means that only one half of the user's body can be attacked otherwise the attack would simply wind, bend, and curve around the endless surface area of the möbius strips. Alpha's one side starts at its hairline and thus any attacks in front of its hairline on any point in the front half of its body is vectored around a fluid angle, thus making its only "blind" / vulnerable spot being her backside. The jailbird can also be used to redirect attacks by unraveling and vectoring the attack through the double helix. If Cyrus has higher advantages than the attack then he can redirect the attack at a higher speed than the original. Finally, Alpha's jailbird redirects its reiatsu signature to only emanate from the blind spot, thus limiting some sensing of it.
Alpha also has cybernetically enhanced eyes that have enhanced sensing capabilities. An initial scan provides superficial information such as spiritual power level, physical power and potential, and racial information. A continued scan in battle provides data regarding any fluctuations in power level that would signal form changes, power level of certain techniques, attack patterns by reading consistent muscle memory, and effects of prolonged injuries in addition to other combat information. All information is stored in a microchip within the glasses Cyrus wears while using Alpha. Alpha also contains compartments for 3 item storage slots within its body.

Eleanor's postured stiffened at the sudden and unexpected words, her back going ramrod straight and her hand making for the blade at her side, but did not draw just yet. Once her brain managed to catch up to her tense reflex, it became evident that whoever was speaking could have launched a surprise attack if he had wanted her dead that badly. That wasn't to say there were those who preferred taunting and the like, secure in their power, but...why ask what she was? The description sounded genuinely curious. Easing slightly, but ready to release her defensive magics if need be, she fixed her posture while keeping her hand on her sword. Her robes, attuned to her will on the matter, stood at the ready to backup her protection.
My name is Eleanor, one of the arrancar, voice without a body. And if speaking is all you want to do, I have no objection. With this, her stance became considerably (and deliberately) more relaxed. The agitation in her body and robes was soothed a fair bit with the effort. Her blade remained sheathed, but not untouched. Rare as conversations were, this hollow in sheap's clothing was willing to take a mild risk or two to provide the opportunity for discourse over destruction. Her previous concerns about not having a body vanished, replaced by a focus on detecting where the mysterious individual was speaking from. Now actively aware, she could perhaps feel the presence, if not point toward it. Whoever this was had a solid handle on their reiatsu, just as she did. But the feel of it was somewhat familiar. Seran had something like it, albeit not identical. As she continued, she moved about slightly, away from the crowd to a spot behind one of the booths. While there was little fear of being overheard, it was slightly more subdued in this particular spot. Easier to listen with reduced hustle and bustle.
Care to reveal yourself? It's hardly proper to hold a conversation with air.
Arrancar? The hell was that? Even though the microchip stored the data under an umbrella folder for hollow in a subsection aptly titled "Weird Sh*t", the description for the term Arrancar was rather sparse. As he retrieved his limb and was in one piece, he eroded the cement below him into sand as he ducked behind a neighboring alleyway, before submerging himself underground, retaining his anonymity as he mirrored the woman's movements to the secluded area. As he followed her, he eroded a small section of the ground in front of her into a bit of a sand pool before gracefully twirling out of it to face her, with a smug shit-eating grin on his face. He knew very well what narcissistic comment he'd make to mask his curiousity of such an ancient power; mock it. He unraveled his body-wide field jailbird to display the individual double helix strands of silver that lined his skin and vibrated them gently vectoring all sound away from the woman and his vicinity while also dulling the ambient noise from the festival.
"My my air-awn-car was it? The hollow blood within you must hate that brain of yours, so civil. And honestly I'm rather surprised my inate programming to destroy all hollows isn't triggering right now. Care to explain why that is? Or more importantly just what that word air-awn-car means? Don't worry about being interrupted no one can hear a thing."

Name: Rise of the Thorns Class: Soul Release Tier: II Type: Supplementary | Stage One Release Passive Range: 10 meter diameter Description: Cyrus's natural attunement to the natural world extends to him having complete control over most forms of organic matter. Some examples include but are not limited to, dirt, grass, rocks and minerals, plants and flowers. He is able to manipulate them as he sees fit as well as create them from his own reiryoku. His specialty however is plant matter. He is able to sprout seeds in a 10 meter diameter from himself and grow monstrous plants from them that are extremely large in size resembling humans in size. Some plants are able to shoot out bala speed seeds dealing piercing damage, while some plants he forms are vines that whip targets and reduce their movement speed by x2 for a post. Cyrus can also summon a thicket of thorned vines and roots. Cyrus can also manipulate the plant matter to form weapons and armors. In terms of rocks and minerals, Cyrus can manipulate them as he sees fit in any form they exist. He can cause small tremors, hurl large chunks of rock, erode stones to sand, and many other varied uses, limited to the tier of the passive. You'll find I'm hardly unique in that regard. All human and spirit life draws itself up from baser instincts. It is the essence of civilization to do so. Those who cannot are rightfully called mad. She repositioned herself a bit, further easing her stance and posture, but not yet allowing total relaxation. Her mind snapped on to two points that prevented it. Firstly, the hidden threat behind his assurance that they wouldn't be listened to (which, frankly, was only a problem for him, what with having a physical body and all). Secondly, the more obvious threat, of course. Programming then? Yes, this all sounded somewhat familiar. Combined with her earlier sensation on reiatsu type (much clearer up close), it became clear what exactly she was speaking to.
I take it you are a modified soul, then. I'll admit to only having met one before, but your aura reminds me of him, to a degree. Odd that he hadn't ever confronted an arrancar before. They weren't that rare, surely? Then again, they also tended to stay around Heuco Mundo, which would be difficult to reach for non-hollows. Perhaps he was a more recent creation? Regardless, she was willing to explain.
An arrancar is a hollow who stabilizes themselves with the removal of their mask, distilling and concentrating their energies into more human shapes for additional strength. I'm told shinigami energy is involved on some unconscious level, which I have reason to believe to be true. Leaning backwards, she utilized Citrinitas to reform the earth beneath her into a simple chair of stone, creating a second one for her spontaneous interviewer if he wanted it. Having her reiatsu in the ground ready to move things a bit more quickly if needed was a welcome side benefit, beyond simply wanting a seat.
So the hollow found a way to regain some humanity. Funny. Ironic even. The next stage of hollow evolution was upon us ladies and gents! Those beasts of the dark realm of sands who were doomed to eternal hunger from a corrupted soul could get a refund on their humanity if they ate enough souls to evolve. Well...the hummanity would of course be a conglomerated amalgam of all the collective souls that hollow had devoured but hey! Humanity's humanity after all. Cyrus didn't really care for the philosophical explanation of her civility, but was certainly pleased that she could even process such thought. Years of being a mindless beast culminating in this? Cute to say the least, like a proud parent hearing its child's first words. Not really caring about the context but greatly happy that it even happened.
He found it especially pleasing she knew of modified souls. Perhaps she'd known of this Seran legend that Cyrus had been searching for. In any case he was particularly interested in hearing about the shinigami powers that fueled this arrancar state. What better way to fill up his files with info besides an interview?
"What makes you believe that shinigami powers are at work? I'd say that's the ultimate form of irony that those that would see you destroyed give you such a wonderful vocabulary and sensibilities." He giggled, tone condescending yet intriqued. How odd that he knew nothing on the subject and yet maintained his patented superiority.
Cyrus accepted her stone seating arrangement but with some modifications. Several tendrils of vines sprouted from the ground and wrapped around the seat until it was covered in vines and roots.

Eleanor wasn't entirely certain what to make of the mod-soul's attitude. Chatty and curious, but condescending despite his apparent ignorance. Perhaps she should be more offended by that attitude, but the discussion was interesting enough that she didn't really consider leaving it at this juncture. Perhaps it was a defensive mechanism. She'd seen enough people with "prickly" outlooks form them to keep the world out. Maybe she was overthinking it, but he'd come to her for a conversation, not the other way around, so it clearly wasn't all-consuming. It didn't really matter, she supposed. Talking about things like this was interesting enough all on its own.
To clarify, my ascension was not the catalyst for my retained sanity. I've been myself since I was born, although there were certainly points of considerable difficulty maintaining it at times. Becoming an arrancar simply made the process that much simpler, with the elimination of the hunger. As to why I believe shinigami energy to be involved, the answer is twofold. Firstly, the formation of a zanpactou that accompanied the transformation. Secondly, through my own arts, I have developed a means of fashioning an "inner world" of sorts, which I am to understand is a natural and normal aspect of the shinigami soul and none others. Arrancar do not normally possess them, and I was forced to compose mine from some of the less...hollow energy within myself. It seems the best answer for now. She repositioned herself in the chain, tilting her head a bit.
But I'm curious about you, actually. As I mentioned before, I've only met one modified soul before this point, so questions arise. How have you survived this long? I'm told the shinigami were as zealous in their aggression against my kind as yours.
Every bit of information the arrancar spewed out was collected into the Alpha's memory banks. Hopefully Cyrus could make sense of it all at a later date because he was at a loss for words currently hearing her exposition grow more and more detailed by the syllable. When she switched subjects and flipped the script onto Cyrus he was even more confused. 5 years on the run wasnt that long right?
It'd been 5 years since his creators saw their destruction in the monster they'd made. Now in the grand scheme of things Cyrus's programming and race as a whole was shinigami in origin, it just so happened that a rogue shinigami managed to save one of the original mod souls and have human governments form an expansive project to reverse engineer a set of artificial modified souls. Almost sounds redundant at that point don't ya think? An artificial version of something already not organic in nature. Unbeknownst to Cyrus, he was actually a second generation of mod soul making him a bit younger in independence than the others because of his gestation period and formation in the lab he was bred. So of course when the arrancar was mentioning survival, Cyrus was curious how she knew of his specific situation, unfortunately he'd revealed more than he'd probably hoped to.
"Arrancar you're peculiar indeed! Its delightful honestly. You speak of my survival but I am the only of my kind. I was created by an underground project supported by multiple human governments to aid their special military divisions in spiritual missions. However the humans began turning my programming as a weapon against other humans. In their ugly change of heart, I destroyed my creators and have been on the run but for a short five year stint. I have not come across any shinigami, let alone one that would do me harm. What is this zeal against mod souls of which you speak?"
Cyrus's eyebrows arched up and his infantile interest couldn't be more obvious; he was piqued by her words and she had his full attention.

Humans...deliberately being informed of... Cyrus wasn't the only one picking up new information. Eleanor was flabbergasted at the thought that a shinigami would deliberately pull down the masquerade protecting unaware humanity from spiritual forces. With the government no less. That implied at least one governmental division was in on the secret, which had more extensive implications than she cared to think about right then. True, human technology wasn't really a match for spiritual power save for the highest refinements of destruction, but she still shuddered to think abuot the changes to culture if the data was let loose. Fortunately, the government was good at covering things up and had little use for the chaos that sort of thing would unleash. So it was likely fairly secure. It was perhaps more interesting that they were able to do anything at all with spiritual technology. She would have thought it rather like writing computer code without having a sense of sight, sound or touch.
Now, she was presented with the decision over whether telling Cyrus all the details would do more harm than good. He was eccentric as far as she could tell, and might respond poorly. Then again, his limited interaction due to shorter periods of activity meant that the first time he managed to interact with a hostile shinigami could end poorly without preparation...Yes, it was probably best to speak about it. She'd leave if things became unpleasant.
Human governments would not possess the skill alone to work with the complex forces generating a functional, empowered soul. The original technology was shinigami. When they made their own five score decades ago, they eventually changed their minds and attempted total extinction. As I understand, very few mod-souls survived. I have little doubt that a shinigami learning of your identity would be disinclined to allow you to continue. Some are capable of dismissing a bigoted position, but most... That last line was a bit quieter, given how close it came to home, but she pressed on at normal tones quickly.
Whether by fortune or skill, you've managed to avoid any contact at all, but that's unlikely to hold true indefinitely. Simply be aware that they are no more likely to want you to live than they would I.
Well that was certainly...engrossing. Cyrus was recalling his years of construction in an attempt to piece together his existence with her words. See the thing was, before he had a complete form Cyrus was a consciousness. Not even a brain so to speak. Simply a spark free falling in a containment tank contemplating existence. His soul was a force of wonder from creation. And in that moment of consciousness he remembered one distinct soul. A shinigami.
Its blurred. Random accessed memory corrupted His name was ███████████ but he went by the "Allfather". He consulted a human scientist he'd met previously on scouting trips to the human world. He was on the run. The Allfather was on the run. He'd ██████. The Gotei were hunting him. They used █████████████ and ██████.
Memory fading.
The Allfather allowed the scientist to take the prototype to the government. It was a collective force from several governments. The nations of ███████████████ formed a coalition and recruited spiritually aware scientists. The Allfather wanted the mod souls to carry out their original mission to assist in defending humanity and fighting hollow. He was killed. █████ killed him. The governments changed the programming. The Brigade was formed. ██████ worked with Cyrus. ████ disappeared.
Woah that was sure trippy! At the arrancar's words Cyrus's memory files jolted and his piercing brown eyes had their irises covered in digitized images. Static broke through the memories, he was damaged. What a shitty way to find out he had some repairs to make right? The scenes of his early infant stages and the Allfather in his black robes aiding the scientist in the coding and programming flashed by blacking out at the corrupted segments. There was a fast forward to Cyrus in his completed form and a....bald man. They were running through villages setting fire to them, murdering civilians and militants alike. This was war....who was baldy?
Cyrus shook himself out of his daze and laughed an awkward little one to break the silence after she'd finished speaking.
"Arrancar I must thank you. I always wondered why he disappeared on us. The Allfather that is. Never knew papa bear's name but that's all he went by. He was the shinigami who helped the Humans create me. I never wondered who killed him or why he left the way he did, but I guess his shinigami bro's didn't take too kindly to his personal vacation time.
In any case my dear Arrancar, these humans that know our world? Their not as dumb as ya think. Still just as corrupt though. Guess the gods of death are just as drunk with power. Funny how that works isn't it. Good guys aint always so good these days. What a bummer I was hoping to thank the Allfather's people too. My gratitude for not seeing me destroyed on sight."
Cyrus was genuine, he didn't want to die before he completed his aims. And even moreso he was thankful she'd jolted away archived memory files, now Cyrus had more to go off of.
He gazed upon the maiden in yesterday's halloween costume and noticed an engraving on her arms.
"You're curious of me, but I must say those tattoos on your arms are worth discussing. Not too ladylike now is it?"

Cyrus as he was created, is a master of nature and uses them greatly in his combat arsenal.
This technique can be used outside of release and in all forms as noted by the +1 Release Technique Above Allowed Amount Super Box

Well. That had turned out decently. She had told him primarily out a sense of fairness, not entirely certain what the reaction would be, but apparently the mod soul had gleaned more information from the statement than she'd expected to be offering. Memories, in all likelihood, judging from his jerking reaction. And it was a shinigami who had granted the tech. That made sense of course, given the liklihood of independently creating such a thing, but still...teaching even awakened living people seemed destined for disaster, subtle or otherwise. While Eleanor didn't actually consider the human derived spiritual races inhuman per-see, the ones who were still in physical form were normally well aware of how weak they were. It was part of the human condition. People who were week reacted unpredictably when offered the chance for power. Combined with good old fashioned government ineptitude and secrecy, and Eleanor frankly wouldn't have been overtly surprised if cities were exploding this very minute somewhere based on the technology they hadn't earned. If humanity as a whole became aware of the existence of spirits, that would complicated everyone's lives unduly.
Cyrus wasn't the only one drawn out from pondering, however. How strange that he brought up the glyphs. Everyone else always seemed to shy away from the subject, but Eleanor certainly had no such reservations.
They're a reminder, nothing I did to myself intentionally. If one were flippant, I believe the lesson would be "don't drink quicksilver". While I believe I came out for the better in the end, the toxicity was...not a pleasant way to die. They are markings of alchemical truth, depictions of the nature of matter, spirit and the bonds between them. My old and current profession, which I deeply regret has faded from popular discourse in favor of that cold, heartless discipline. Eleanor couldn't bring herself to say that modern chemistry was ineffective. She was, after all, further empowered by understanding the differences between materials. But it focused solely on the physical when the power of the spiritual was proven by her very existence.
But yes, I suppose they aren't terribly in the bonds of the conventionally feminine. My mother was certainly not shy with that accusation years before my untimely demise and subsequent...decoration? There wasn't any real bitterness there. Eleanor knew who she as, better than most. Though she did perhaps take some umbrage at the idea that curiosity was unladylike, a position her parents had tried and failed to enforce. Eleanor could never really be called a tomboy or the like, but try telling that to people with such a narrow view.
