High above the white sands, standing tall as one of his size could, a captain at his post scanned the endless ocean of Hueco Mundo's desert. His noble captain's haori billowed in the breeze behind him, tossed around in his heroic wake. To his side was cinched his might weapon, his partner in this barren world, one that had helped him slay nearly a gazillion million evil beasts, putting to rest their tired and aching souls once and for all.
Today was no different, it was a day for justice, and glory to Seireitei, it was a day of new beginnings and new endings as well. Turning a full 180, Garro crossed his arms, tossing back his head with pride to his underling, a small girl with green hair lost in this endless wasteland full of monsters and demons. Today was the day he would begin her training, to truly make her title as Vice Captain of the Hueco Mundo Division of Seireitei one that would make beasts tremble in their pititful hides.
Raising his small hand, Garro opened his mouth to announce their plan of action, his deep voice the only one worthy enough for a master of everything such as himself, words like golden nectar flowing from his mouth,
"Today, little one... is the d- pfffftwa...bleck..." Before he could get more than a few words out, his cape flung around in the wind, attacking his face and whipping around spiratically. He clawed quickly to remove it, tossing it to the side to billow heroically once more, standing with his chest swelled and his small fists to his hips, looking off into the distance,
"It seems these cursed sands even have my own uniform turning against me... but alas, today is a day for change, Vice Captain. The day of reckoning for a beast, and by your own hands... that is... if you are strong enough...!" Crossing his arms over his chest, Garro scoffed a bit as if he doubted his Vice Captain's power, looking over his shoulder, as if he wondered if she could handle such a trial as he had prepared for her.

Nel was sat down in the sand, looking up at the strange hollow. This was not her first encounter with Garro. Before they had faced off against terrifying dangers together, and he had saved her skin, despite not being all that much stronger than her himself. He often claimed to be a shinigami- a fact she was more than a little sceptical about. This time, they'd bumped into each other on the sands, and he had dragged her up here, saying something incomprehensible in his Garro-ish way about training her and lieutenants and other such nonsense. Nel was nonplussed as he'd grabbed her by the hand, dragged her up here and she'd been plonked down before him.
That had been more than ten minutes ago and ever since he'd been stood, staring wistfully into the sands while Nel slowly, slowly sidled away wondering if he'd forgotten about her- she wouldn't have put it past him. However before she could complain or her boredom, or run away, he turned around. Nel drew a sharp intake of breath to attempt to cut across the monologue that was sure to follow but instead ended up laughing for longer than was strictly necessary as the hollow inhaled his cloak.
"Hey!" Nel said, suddenly angry, her laughing fit passing as quickly as it had started. "You betcha Nel's tough enough!" she said, stamping her little feet. "Who does Gawwo think he ith, makin them kindtha accuthations!?" she asked angrily.
Grinning and kneeling down to his Vice Captain, Garro spoke,
"That is the spirit, then you will have no trouble completing the ultra-special task that only my Vice Captain could, right?" Standing up once again, as tall as a tiny bone-head such as himself could, he drew his club from its tie on his hip, and grinned down to her, pointing to end of it to her and flicking it up in gesture for her to prepare to get going. "We must be swift, little one, for this mighty foe is also an illusive one. We must move quick while this window of opportunity is still open.."
Spinning away from her and hunkering down at the top of the dune, Garro peered down over the sands below, searching for their path of travel. After a moment, he peered over his shoulder to her and re-sheathed his club, securing it snugly in his belt, speaking out one final phrase.
"Come, Nel... if you can keep up with my shunpo..." Grinning and lowering himself a bit more, almost into a lunge, he suddenly dashed off down the dune, swiftly scuttling off away ahead of her, his speed obviously unmatched by nearly any being in this desert. It would be true skill if she could even see him move this quickly, much less keep up with his speed, but Garro had faith in the small one. Shouting out behind him over his shoulder, "You are falling behind, child, quickly!"

Forgetting her previous trepidation, Nel jumped to her feet, nearly smashing Garro in the face with her mask as she did so, and looked around with a wild look in her eyes. "Nel can beat anythin' that Gawwo can throw at her!" she squeaked, the fight still present in her eyes. She was bouncing up and down on her feet, rearing to go. She tottered after him when he went to look for where they were going and he stowed his club. She told him she wouldn't be able to keep up with him- before he before sprinted off. No fair! His legs were bigger. She suddenly wanted to cry at being left alone but instead ran after him, slipping and sliding on the evershifting sands beneath her.
"Nel thuper acceleration!" she cried as a yellowish light gradually built up in the eyeholes of her mask, before she was launched forwards, at a speed far faster than Garro down to the bottom of the sands where she lay in a crumpled heap, thrashing wildly to disentangle herself from her robe. "Gawooo! Nel'th hurt you should carry Nel!" she said sulkily, threatening to cry, tears welling in her enormous, orb-like eyes.
As his Vice Captain zoomed by, Garro's sprinting slowed to a jog. Incredible. He watched as her speed seemed to catch up with her, her tiny body clipping on the sand like a rock skipped over a lake. She then crumpled into the sand after a few flips and rolls. She had definite potential, now they just had to master the skill. Garro had made it his duty to draw out the strength that he knew was inside of her, but he didn't know he would grow with her along the way.
Finally approaching closer, he had slowed to a walk at this point. Hands on his hips, he scowled down at her, the face of anger or disappointment even, he drew in a breath to surely chew her out for her clumsiness.
"That... was fantastic, child! You are showing glimmers of true strength, well done! Now.. we just have to practice on your control... but for now, you have done very well... "
Jutting out his tiny hand, he gave a small grin, nodding. "Take my hand, young one, we shall walk together, on your feet! A Vice Captain must be tough after all! Now is not the time for tears.. "
