The Menos Forest. The closest thing to a natural ecosystem in Hueco Mundo. The irony of it made Magma chuckle a little, as he slid into the depths of the forest. As an Adjuchas, he wasn't too afraid of the Gillian. They were mindless, pitiful entities, souls trapped in eternal damnation of constantly fighting for control, but never truly able to reign in the power within. But at the same time, they were weak souls, and weak souls give birth to weak minds.
He approached a part of the forest where trees circled around it. Magma looked around, seeing some Gillian walk around, the giant ebony monsters drifting away to do nothing but wander around. Since that one Shinigami had been captured, Hueco Mundo had fallen back into a chaotic world, even more then before. It was a shame, he was quite interested in perhaps trying out the power of those who tore their masks off. But he was too late.
"Can't win them all, I suppose," Magma muttered. He decided he would start learning some techniques that he had been hearing about, and so, he began to charge up his reiatsu, knowing it would lure Hollows to him. The faint smell of cooking fire filled the air, and he heard stomps coming from behind him. Baited.
Turning his head around to the Gillian, it roared with a bellow that showed its despair. It was, truly, a pitiful creature deep down. All those souls. But thinking about all those souls made Magma feel hungry. The beast, the destructive beast that wanted to melt everything to ash, but he ignored it. He must fight.
Magma, instead of using his powers, began to do what he remembered seeing another Hollow do. He decided to use his head for this. He slid forward, and glared at the Gillian. "Pitiful creature. I'll put you out of your misery."
He began to focus his energy into his forehead, closing his eyes from the strain. He felt his body beginning to pour its energy into his head, and the Gillian's jaws began to lower, a familiar red sphere charging around its mouth. Magma knew too well that it was trying to fire out a Cero. "Not today. Rasgar!"
Magma threw his head forward, and he saw orange energy begin to fly out into a projectile. Physical stress began to strain his body, and he thought he had it... only for the projectile to fall apart and dissipate into harmless shards of spiritual energy. Magma blinked in surprise, but before he could react, his vision was red.
The Cero hit, and Magma was sent flying from the force. Pain spread around his body, and he landed 5ft away from the Gillian. He opened his eyes, cringing, and then looked up again to see the Gillian roaring. He knew that the Gillian had nothing but hunger and chaos in its mind, and he watched as the Gillian roared again. The attempt to do Rasgar was quite draining on Magma, but he thought he could do it again. He pushed his mind to direct his energy to his head, and pain, from both the physical injuries and mental strain of forcing this technique, caused him to shudder. "I must learn... I must learn this! If I don't do this, I'll die!"
Orange power began forming around the lava snail's head, and he stared right up at the behemoth in front of him, in the process of recovering itself to fire another Cero. Magma knew another Cero wouldn't kill him, but it would only worsen his injuries, and he could be very well left vulnerable to another Hollow.
That wasn't going to happen. His body screamed to let go, to resort to his usual abilities, but Magma ignored it. He focused his power, and made his resolve clear. He was not going to die in this forest, not by a long shot.
He will do this. He will unleash all his power to improve his skills. He had to learn. Learn. Evolve. He headbutted forward, gathering his energy into his head. And when he pushed forward, he unleashed his power. "Rasgar!"
With all his force, Magma pushed forward an orange burst of energy from his head that sailed right into the Gillian. Instead of dissipating or falling apart, however, the projectile sailed forward, and then smashed into the Gillian, tearing right into its black flesh. Lacerations were torn into the flesh of the Gillian, causing one large gash, along with two smaller gashes on the side of it. Roaring in pain, the Gillian lost its footing, then collapsed. Magma felt exhausted, but yet, seeing the Gillian fall to his new technique, he was happy. More then happy, in fact. He had discovered something. A technique, named Rasgar. Tear.
RASGAR LEARNED
"Well, I best enjoy this feast." Magma muttered to himself. He began to eat into the Gillian, and thought about another technique to use.
Unfortunately for Magma, his training was not nearly done. He began to crawl now, but he heard the roars of Gillians tear through the dark forest. Magma felt drained, but he had to keep pushing his limits. While, true, he was stronger then Gillians, he wasn't so arrogant as to believe he could take on a group of them, especially in his current state. In fact, he may very well be killed.
"I will have to disappear," Magma muttered to himself. He heard the stomping get louder, and so, he decided to see if he could outwit these creatures (not exactly a hard task) and disappear, leaving them unable to find him. So, he channelled his energy, and began to try and coat it all over his body. He seeped his power from his very core into his physical form, trying to push himself to disappear. The stomping got louder, and Magma felt a sense of dread start to dawn on him. Stomp followed stomp, and judging from the amount of steps, there had to be at least four or five Gillian approaching him. So Magma, thinking quickly, tried to move behind a tree while he focused his form. He had to shield not only his physical body, but his reiatsu as well, so both physical and spiritual essences of Magma would be gone from prying eyes.
That was harder then he thought. While parts of him were starting to disappear, his reiatsu wasn't fading, and Magma, feeling the strain, coupled with the injuries and exhaustion from the previous Cero, couldn't hold it anymore. He had to stop, and so, his reiatsu and body appeared. The Gillians noticed this, and before he knew it, he heard the whirl, and felt the power, of four Ceros being aimed at him all at the same time. Thinking quickly, Magma began to slide quickly, and jumped, just as the Ceros fired. The momentum sent him flying forward, and before he knew it, he was rolling around in the white sand, falling down a dune, until he was stopped when he hit a tree.
His head was a mess, but Magma quickly shook the fatigue off himself. Unfortunately, he heard the familiar roars of the Gillian, and though his body was screaming in pain, Magma quickly decided to give it another try. His reiatsu clouded him once more, but this time, Magma began to ease his energy out slower. As a result, while it was slow, it was starting to be far more comfortable pulling the coat of energy over him. It felt more like he decided to gently tug at something, slowly letting it come loose, rather then tugging at it as hard as he could and not getting anywhere. However, he was still trying to loosen himself up enough to fully cloud his body, and he could hear the Gillian beginning to move. They knew he was still out there, and they would not stop until he was dead. And he was not going to be a mindless entity again, or another soul to power somebody's consciousness.
He stopped his current attempt, but this time, he began to not only gently pull the reiatsu over him, but also, like walking on a treadmill, despite his body straining against the coat, he kept on going. It was like going up a hill, the resistance was there, but he kept on going. He just kept on going. He saw himself begin to disappear, his reiatsu was climbing to a halt, and he, with one last spiritual tug, pulled the coat right over himself.
And like that, he was gone. To the Gillian's senses, he was no longer. Indeed, Magma watched the Gillians look around, stomping around, while Magma held up the technique, his mind continuing to hold onto the coat until they were gone. And, after what felt like an eternity but was more like a few minutes, the Gillians turned and left, waltzing down into the eternal forest, to an unknown future. And it was fortunate enough, as Magma felt the strain really come on from the coat, and he released, letting the coat fall off him. Magma, once again, had learned something.
After his encounters with the Gillians, Magma decided to rest and eat, consuming low-level Hollows. A few hours later, he could sense his strength return to him, and he felt up to the task of learning the last two techniques. The snail Hollow decided that he would have to really push himself to learn the next two techniques. The first one would be none other then Ensombreza Huelga, Shadow Strike, an attack he had seen being unleashed on quite a few Hollows. Now, however, he was hoping to come across someone a little more... reasonable. The Adjuchas ventured into another part of the forest, one he knew was populated by remnants of a former army. His power would be enough to scare off low-level Hollows, but he knew there was someone there who was apparently a product of an earlier time. And that interested him.
As he ventured, he saw several holes, indicating self-made homes that the Hollows had made. He saw a few Hollows peer out from different holes, but before he could do anything, he heard a booming voice. "Who dares disturb my community?"
"I do, Maskless," Magma responded in a matter-of-fact tone. He saw a large, somewhat inhuman-looking humanoid walk out from one of the caves, standing tall and ready to defend his clan against the lava snail if need be, "but do not fear for your allies. I'm simply here to learn," he responded. Indeed, while Magma knew little of the Arrancar, or Maskless as he called them, he figured that this Arrancar had removed his mask at the Gillian stage. While he wasn't as monstrous as some other Arrancar he had seen, he wasn't as human-looking, and looked rather lanky, with muscular arms attached to an unnaturally thin torso. He wore what seemed to be rags. His mask remnants were very much visible, with a large wolf lower jaw on his chin, and a thick bone collar around his large neck. A short sword hung off his right side, clearly where he stored his former powers.
"Shut up! You're a threat!" the Arrancar yelled. Magma sighed, and began to focus his reiatsu, remembering how the technique went. They focused their energy into their limb, then struck forward, paralyzing what they hit. While he didn't really have limbs, he did have his shell, which he figured was the best choice to use the attack with. So, Magma started to gather his reiatsu, and filtered it into his shell... which was harder then expected. The shell began to glow a slight dark hue, but Magma found himself struggling to channel the reiatsu properly into his body, and indeed, it started to falter. He tried to fit in his reiatsu into his shell, but it wasn't working like he hoped. This only was exasperated by the Arrancar deciding to rush towards him, but not even a second later, he vanished with a static boom. Magma continued to focus, but the disruption to his concentration was made worse by the Arrancar appearing in front of him out of nowhere, his fist raised. An overhead smash was coming, but Magma then thrust forward, causing fist and shell to collide. The impact sent both fighters flying.
The next thing Magma could see, the Arrancar was getting up, but he realized his technique was a failure. The Arrancar was not struggling to move, nor did he seem like he was in any pain, asides from perhaps being shaken by the clash between them. Indeed, the lava snail felt a crack or two on his shell from the collision. Magma, not wasting any time, decided to filter his reiatsu into his shell again, to swirl it inside and let it take shape there... wait....
Magma realized just how to do it now. And just as well, as the Arrancar took out his small sword. "Okay, no more games! We're finishing this!" he yelled. Instead of booming forward, though, he broke into a run, pulling his arm back to stab him. Magma knew he had to do something quick, or face certain injury, if not death. Magma kept on trying to channel his reiatsu, and his shell was starting to seriously glow dark now. The shell was taking on a darker hue, and an aura was forming around it, as the Arrancar got closer. Magma kept his mind calm, kept swirling his energy into his shell, despite the strain from his reserves. The Arrancar got closer, closer... now!
Magma narrowly dodged, then slammed into the Arrancar, this time square on the stomach. The Arrancar let his air out, and stepped back in pain, but he simply gave the Hollow a sharp glare. "You stu-"
The Arrancar suddenly yelled in pain, and his arms were locked where they were, his body unable to move. Magma saw that he was completely locked where he was, and while he feebly stepped back a little further, the Arrancar was in a lot of pain. Magma knew he had successfully learned a new technique, but then bowed to the Arrancar. "I mean you no harm. I'll take my leave, now."
The snail continued to crawl further and further through the forest, looking to find a place to rest for a bit. He had undergone quite a day today, and while he did need to push himself to learn one more technique, he just didn't feel like it. Petty laziness, true, and he wouldn't consider himself lazy, but he was still tired. But... none of that now. He had to train. Alas, it was hard to live in this kind of wasteland, so he had to do it either way.
Magma decided to aim his focuses towards a sole Gillian, when suddenly, he felt a burst of reiatsu behind him. The snail turned around, lava dripping off his body, to see the same Arrancar as before, frothing in the mouth. "Oh, hello. I'm serious when I meant no harm, but...", now annoyed, Magma's eyes narrowed slightly, "if you pursue this any further, I may be forced to harm you."
"Yeah?! Well, screw you!" without warning, the Arrancar pulled out his sword, "Pounce, Lobo Púrpura!"
The sword exploded into purple, and reiatsu covered the Arrancar. Magma covered his eyes, and when the smoke cleared and his sight returned, Magma saw a startling sight. The Arrancar was now on all fours, covered in large, hulking armor reminiscent of a wolf. His hands and feet were now paws, digging into the sand. He looked quite vicious, in fact, with one eye staring at him, and Magma could feel that the Arrancar was much stronger now. While he held the advantage, still, Magma doubted that he could walk away with only a scratch this time.
"Haha... this is the power of my Ressureccion! Look at you, you've never seen one before!"
"Yes, that's true. I have never witnessed something like this in the flesh, but that only serves to interest me...."
But then, his mind began to focus. He focused harder, thinking of how he would get the beast up into the air with a strong updraft. It would be hard to push forth his reiatsu right into the air, especially to lift up such a target, but Magma had faith in himself. And besides, if he didn't work it out, then he would likely be severely injured. The snail channelled an orb of energy on his shell, quite easy to do thanks to his Cero abilities, but he condensed the energy into a more compact form, before flinging it. And luckily for him, the Arrancar had pounced on him.
The Arrancar was hit, and he yelled as he was forced up into the air. By pulling his reiatsu in, Magma managed to channel the orb to explode into an upwards burst. However, it only got... about 5 meters, before the Arrancar hit the ground. Getting back on his feet, the Arrancar roared and threw a claw out, which struck Magma and caused him to be knocked back, sprawling against the white sands.
Magma, again channelling his energy into his shell, suddenly threw another orb as he got back to a neutral position. It hit the Arrancar again, and this time, Magma pushed forward his reiatsu, just as it hit. The Arrancar was sent flying forward, and to Magma's delight, he got higher... but no explosion. The Arrancar landed down, this time on his stomach, and moaned.
"That's the best you got?! Hah, stupid!" he roared.
Magma focused his reiatsu further. The updraft was easy enough, but it was the explosion that was the true problem. The Arrancar got back on all fours and howled, running right towards Magma, and before Magma could do anything, he was sent flying away by the Arrancar's charge. Magma groaned, and with another roll, got a few feet away from the Arrancar. Said Arrancar adjusted himself on his four paws once again, causing the sand to melt under his weight. Magma had to do this, he had to, or he would be dead. This Arrancar would have nothing for him if he were to die, too, and that, in his mind, seemed even worse then becoming simply another voice in some other Adjuchas' head. Magma concentrated, again and again, thinking of how he would sent his reiatsu flying up, then spread it out into an explosion.
The Arrancar launched, and Magma felt it all click in his head. With a sudden pull of his mental trigger, he unleashed his reiatsu up into an orange upflow.
The Arrancar was sent flying by the full brunt of the reishi upflow. He sailed 20 meters above Magma, screaming, and Magma unleashed the full burst of the reiatsu that remained. With a terrific boom, an explosion covered the Arrancar's screaming form, erasing him into nothing but pieces of bloody flesh and particles. Magma closed his eyes in respect for the deceased Arrancar, an opponent that failed to learn. "Thank you for the meal. And for your efforts."
After consuming the Arrancar's flesh, Magma felt himself revitalized. Now with his training done, Magma decided to leave the forest. He would rest for another day, but he had learned. And in the process, he had grown as a fighter, and as a being. He had learned something today.
