Shiruko Purin
Ahh, how unfortunate./I'm going to skin ya, and then kill Ya!
Pudding Guy/Porridge Guy/Bean Guy, Puddin' (for older women referring to him affectionately), Azuki || rogue/non-rogue || 12th division 37 || N/A || 400
APPEARANCE
Appearance Shiruko is a tall guy, about 6'2", and is also quite thin. He has skin that's a little tanned from spending a lot of time in the sun, and very dark brown hair; nearly black. He wears glasses and has a tendency to wear trousers and a shirt as opposed to shinigami robes which he claims is for "research purposes", however, he can occasionally be seen wearing a labcoat. He has brown eyes and thin eyebrows and smiles a lot.
Azuki is a lot shorter and looks like a child. She has long blond hair and dark blue eyes. She's fair skinned, and wears strapback caps and dungarees. She does everything she can to avoid looking "cute" and has a furrowed brow a lot of the time due to the stressful nature of digging ones heels in.
PERSONALITY
Shiru is the epitome of calm and collected. He has a really decent sense of humour, and isn't cold at all, and does his best to look after and treat everyone around him right, even if they do not do the same to him. Even when hard pushed during combat, he tackles everything with a sort of serene confidence. He is extremely assuring, even when splattered in gore and a little frustrated; he takes on a "why are you doing this?" sort of attitude that makes everyone turn on everyone he's fighting. He loves reading, and is constantly going to the human world to buy books to take back, having read through the library that was available to him. He's persistent, and demands closure. If something goes wrong, he'll try again until he can fix it.
He doesn't look down on those of lesser ability him, and commends those who have far surpassed him, without being annoying, or kissing anyone's ass. He's just a genuinely nice guy. He believes in fate, and that some things are destined to happen, but you can always change your fate if you try hard enough. He thinks that it was fate that he was inflicted as he was, and that he found a way to work around fate's plans. As far as hollows are concerned, he finds most of them to be a little distasteful personality-wise, and realizes their threat to innocents of rukongai and the human world. He doesn't have any vendetta against them, and simply believes it to be a pity that they seem to have such a great negative impact on Soul Society and the human world. He thinks that Arrancar have the potential to find redemption, as they seem to be beings capable of reason.
He is also incredibly smart, and perceptive to boot. He excels in all areas of study due to his ability to grasp things so quickly. He does not lord this intelligence over others, however, he can accidentally appear condescending or maybe even a little haughty as a result of this.

» personality: Azuki Azuki is really still Shiruko, and she struggles with both her gender and her name. She felt that she had always been a little at odds with her body. Her name however, she feels especially conscious about, and so she doesn't allow anyone to call her any other nicknames except for the nicknames they give to Shiru, and of course, her name Azuki.
She is quite rash and bold, and is always walking close to the edge, and stepping over the line. She can be unabashedly reckless, and always has Shiru running around after her, clearing up her messes. She is extremely stubborn, and demanding of those around her. She expects others to follow her high standards in things, and is impatient too. However, she does have many redeeming traits; her willingness to help others regardless of dangers involved unthinkingly; her love of nature and the world around her; the fact that she will always stick up for one who is weaker. She always strives to better herself.
Despite what many people seem to think, she is just as clever as Shiru; her ability to think on her toes and make split-second decisions is nigh on infallible, she can puzzle things out extremely fast. She isn't good at solving problems, as she isn't good at applying her mind to things for extended periods of time, but she is getting better, and she is perfectly capable of doing difficult things in her head. Like Shiruko, she has no particular enmity towards Hollows, and seeks to kill them only to protect Soul Society and the human realm. Unlike Shiru, however, she thinks that even arrancar are beyond redemption.

HISTORY
Shiruko was born in Rukongai. He was born in the humble 20th district. His father, Seta, had been a member of the third corps of the Onmitsuko; a prison guard. Some years before Shiru's birth, however, his father had lost his sword-hand during a prison riot, caused by the madness of several occupants. After this incident, he was no longer able to be a member of the onmitsuko, and with his sword-hand totally shot, he had to re-learn how to fight with his left hand. During this time, he asked for a temporary yet undefined leave of absence from duties in order to recover psychologically and physically from the damage. After a psychiatric examination by his superiors, he was determined not a viable threat, and was given all the time off he needed.
During this time, he went to live in rukongai, with the family that he had left behind when he became a shinigami. Here, he met a lady named Midori, who he fell in love with. The two were soon together, and she was expecting a child. This affair had been hard for him, as he had come to realize that he would more than likely out-live his wife. Nonetheless, he wanted to enjoy her company while he could, and raise a child.
That child was Shiruko. He was the spitting image of his father, though he had always been told that he'd had his mother's eyes. He grew up fairly normally, except for the fact that he was a spiritual being, and a strong one to boot. He was usually pretty friendly with the neighbourhood kids, who were all fascinated by the fact that his father was a shinigami, but especially as they grew, and distrust of seireitei became more prevalent, Shiru would use his reiatsu in strange ways that would scare away anyone that tried to pick on him.
Something that became more apparent as he grew older, was the fact that Shiruko had multiple personality disorder. He would semi-regularly flip between his usual calm, unassuming self, to being demanding, hot-headed and stubborn and back again, the two dissociated personalities inside him fighting to take control of his body. Shiru found it particularly disturbing, as changing from one personality to another would often incur memory loss regarding personal information. He also found it hard if not virtually impossible to interact directly with his "other self" (having decided, for his own benefit, that being calm and unassuming should be his base state) and so, to counter this, he began writing a diary, except that instead of describing to the diary the nature of his life and its happenings, he used the diary as a way of communicating with his dissociative personality.
His parents rarely worried for him, because while he did drastically change personality occasionally, he was still quite a happy normal child. He was good at controlling and hiding the levels of his stress. When he was only a teenager, he bode farewell to his family, and went to become a shinigami, following in the advice and footsteps of his father.
Shiru excelled at the academy; having already been taught how to swordfight and fight hand-to-hand by his father, he picked up the basics of kido and hoho very quickly. But the thing that stunned most was that despite his lax nature, Shiru was an absolute genius. He was gifted with incredible intelligence, for trivial things as well as important aspects such as tactics and spiritual engineering. He learned the history of soul society and the gotei 13, even ploughing into extra-curricular material. It was noted, however, that a large amount of the time, he was not like this at all, and spent a lot of time picking fights with others, over the most trivial things, once nearly resulting in his expulsion.
He left the academy and was immediately taken into squad 12, where he was well-respected among his peers for his tactical brilliance, but also feared for his occasional outbursts. His superiors kept a very close eye on him, fearing that he was unstable; which he was indeed. Sometimes, it was all he could do to keep control of himself. His dissociative personalities did come in useful, as together, they seemed to complete him, and make him a whole person.
His Zanpakuto spirit was also an odd one. It changed personality much like Shiru did, and did so exactly when he did, in such a way that Shiru's calm and collective self always met a rash, decisive, hot-headed spirit during jinzen, and Shiru's irritable, headstrong, impetuous self encountered a cool, collected spirit.
Shiruko spent the decades following his induction into the Gotei 13 learning more about his Zanpakuto's spirit and going about the business required of him from the 12th division. It was during this time that he came to learn how to use his shikai.
Through this experience he came to bond much more closely with his zanpakuto's spirit, learning to master the blade's abilities. Things were difficult for him, however. The dissonance in his personalities drove him increasingly crazy, until, eventually, his superiors had no choice but to dictate that he was unfit for duty, and had him sentenced to imprisonment in the maggot's nest.
He spent fifty years there, flipping between his two personas. This seemed to do nothing but aggravate him, and cause more extreme behaviour in both mindsets. He would become a quiet, respectful, peaceful reader, before changing into an aggressive, spiteful prisoner, and several times, it took several members of the onmitsuko to subdue him.
Eventually, however, he had had enough of this endless cycle, of flipping between the two parts of himself. He had decided that enough was enough, and that he had to break free. And so, he did. When he was in a calm state, he entered a state of deep meditation, appearing within his own inner world.
There was his zanpaukto's spirit, and he nodded to him. The spirit inclined its head in return. But there was someone else. What looked like a young girl, with blue eyes and long blonde hair. She wore dungarees and a snapback hat. She looked at him cynically. While she looked young, he could tell that she was an equal to him in every measure.
"'Socurring, Pudding-tan?" She asked him. Pudding-tan?. he'd heard bean boy before, or porridge guy, but not pudding.
"Not much, blondie." he said, his only reaction being to raise his eyebrows, and place his hands in his pockets after adjusting his glasses a little. He rocked back and fourth on his feet.
"So what, we just gonna stand here with the masked maniac and wait until the sky falls?" she asked. Shiru shrugged. "Well that's useful." She told him, boredly playing with her hair.
"Uhm, sorry," he said, with a grin, scratching the back of his head, "we've never met face-to-face before, I'm not quite sure what to say." He laughed. "Isn't it a little weird, you being a girl and all?" he asked her. She shrugged.
"Not really, maybe you're just a poofder." She said. He shrugged mild-manneredly, but that only served to piss her off. She did a shunpo to get towards him and tried to kick him in the face, but he easily side-stepped. She growled and went for him again, this time landing a successful drop-kick on the top of his head, that sent him reeling. She went to attack him again, this time aiming a kick at his torso, but he responded fast as lightning with a palm to her heel, breaking her ankle. She swore, and danced backwards through the air, grunting.
"Why are we fighting?" He asked her, as though enquiring out of nothing more than slight curiosity.
"Isn't it obvious?" she asked with a laugh. "Jesus, you can't really be that smart if you can't work it out. We've already shown that your body is only big enough for one of us... Now we'll decide which one." she said, with a grin. Shiruko let out a quiet "oh" and pushed his glasses back up his face. He turned to his zanpakuto spirit.
"And, what do you think of this, Kokai-san?" He asked.
"Just do it, do you really care that little about me that you wouldn't want to fight for me?" it asked. Shiru shrugged; this body was his for now. As it turned out, the rules of the game were pretty simple; both personalities had to fight, and whoever won would possess the body of Shiruko. Both Shirukos thought that was fair, and in the end, calm Shiruko beat his rash counterpart though patience and determination. He made it look easy.
He was returned to his body. It took another five years of being in the maggot's nest for them to finally believe that he had "defeated his demon". No-one knew about Shiru's MPD, they assumed that he'd been possessed by some figurative thought-demon, or that he had anger issues, or something crazy like that.
Meanwhile, he began working on a new project. In fact, now was the perfect time for him to be working on his project; by the time he had escaped the maggot's nest, the twelfth division had been taken over by none other than Kisuke Urahara. It was sheer chance that someone like Shiruko ended up in the division that would eventually be the head of research.
And research he did. Taking cues from his taichou's work on gigai, he strived to develop his own artificial body. It took him some years to complete, but when he had finished, he felt very accomplished. Though hard work, determination, and effort, Shiru had developed a body that could function in both soul society and the human world. He presumed that in Hueco Mundo too, this body would function as normal. It contained a full artificial organ set, working blood. However, this body was unable to accept artificial souls or modified souls.
This body would accept Shiruko's own soul. Or, part of it, at least. He had established through tests on himself, that his two personalities were in fact a part of a single soul (his own), and that to lose his rowdy counterpart completely was to lose a valuable part of himself, even if he did feel that that part of him was a little too rugged and rash for him. So, instead of sealing a part of himself away, he attempted to seal a part of himself into this body.
But he had no idea how. He didn't know how to split off that portion of his soul - not without killing him at least. The body went un-used, and gathered dust in the years following its creation, before Shiruko, in uncharacteristic rage, destroyed it. Shiruko's experiments were never found out, and he hid all evidence, pretending to be working on a project to help soul society which went awry in the end. He still felt the same dischord in his head, and he could feel it building to a climax again, before he decided to take steps.
He found himself once again in his inner world, that endless monochrome meadow, where he; his Zanpakuto spirit, Kokai; and the other portion of his soul were the only ones who had any colour to them whatsoever. The other Shiruko was opposite to him, lounging indolently, supporting herself on the air. She looked at him with a bored look and Shiruko regarded her uncharacteristically seriously. Kokai looked at them, the eyes on his masked face looking even more creepy.
"So, what, do I have to fight you again?" Shiruko asked his counterpart, regaining his composure.
"I guess." she said, lowering herself to stand upon the grey grass.
"What?" he asked her, narrowing his eyes questioningly.
"If we fight this is just going to happen again, isn't it?" she asked.
"Not if I kill you." Shiruko suggested, his face amiable. She looked at him with wide eyes. He drew his sword and flash stepped towards her leaving her only just enough time to parry his attack. He went for another strike, his eyes a little mad as he lashed out again and again, and she gasped and panted as she tried to block his barrage of blows. He swung downwards, and she rolled to the side to avoid that blow, before sweeping her leg around causing Shiruko to topple over. They got to their feet and crossed their blades, but before they could continue fighting, Kokai intervened. He raised a single, stick-like arm, and clicked his gloved fingers, causing a blinding flash between the two of them that propelled them each backwards, still upright.
"I cannot allow you two to hack each other to pieces." the zanpakuto spirit said, in a towering rage. "You are two sides of the same coin. A one-sided coin would not work." he said, regarding both of them with those terrible eyes.
"What can I do, then?" asked Shiruko a slight edge of exasperation in his voice.
"Give a little, get a little." the imp explained. "You and Azuki are stuck together, one and the same and yet entirely different. You know now the way to communicate with one another; do so." it said. There was no room for argument.
"Azuki?" he asked.
"That's my name." said the girl. Shiruko nodded.
"Sorry." he said.
From then on, things became a lot easier. He communicated freely with Azuki, who he would even allow free reign of his body occasionally. Azuki enjoyed her newfound freedom and now the two aspects of his personality weren't perpetually at war, Shiruko found coping much easier. He was able to quietly work without being overtly noticed, and Azuki promised to behave whenever she possessed his body. He was determined, now, to find a way of giving his other self a greater degree of liberation, although he knew that it would never happen.
Shiruko and Azuki are both parts of a single soul and are not multiple souls in one body, they are simply two aspects of one persona. Azuki's appearance is (for now) only relevant during jinzen. This grants Shiruko no extra powers or abilities or potential to gain extra powers and abilities.

BAKUDO
HEALING
OTHER
BATTLE SKILLS
Name: 不可解な穏やか Impenetrable Calm (Fukakaina odayaka) Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: III Type: Defensive Range: Self Description: Shiruko is shrouded in a veil of his own reiatsu which makes him more difficult to cut, or puncture. This is specifically designed to guard against the blows of swords or other sharp weapons, and as such has no effect on most energy attacks. Weapon attacks with less than -1 advantages will simply pass through him, creating a strange cloud effect where they do. Attacks of +1 and +2 advantages will cut him though not to their full extent, as the veil doesn't completely protect him, while attacks of +3 and more advantages are unaffected. Duration: 7 posts.
Name: 控えめな装い Unassuming Guise (Hikaemena yosōi) Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: Shiruko diffuses a controlled amount of reiatsu, which he uses to hide himself in plain sight. He appears totally unassuming and unnoteworthy, and people will not look twice at him. Especially effective when there are people about. Not very effective when he is alone. Does not work on anyone of a higher rank. They would notice him as normal, and if they knew him, perhaps comment on how his reiatsu seemed weird. This is not invisibility. If you go looking for him and know whereabouts to find him you'll be able to find him and if your attention is already focused on him he's not going to just escape notice. This is more for moving around in crowds and escaping notice when he doesn't want to be seen.
Name: 騙す Trick (Damasu) Class: Weapon Skill Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: < 2m Description: Shuriko raises his sword as if to block an opponent's blow, and fluidly steps out of the way of the blow, while allowing the force of his opponent's blade to sweep his out of the way. The total lack of resistance in Shiruko's blade throws opponents off-balance and buys him a vital chance at a counter-attack. The counter attack (sword blow) following this manoeuvre has twice the speed and strength of a normal sword-blow.
Name: Class: Tier: Type: Range: Description:
Name: Class: Tier: Type: Range: Description:
Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps.
ITEMS
REIATSU FEATURES
Shiruko's reiatsu is a brilliant white colour and emanates from him in waves.
ZANPAKUTOU
後悔 - Kokai - Regret
Kido - Holy
"You're gonna regret this."
SEALED FORM
A regular Katana.
SPIRIT APPEARANCE
Appearance An imp with a scary mask always covering its face.
SPIRIT PERSONALITY
It changes personality much like Shiru does, and does so exactly when Shiru does, in such a way that Shiru's calm and collective self always meets a rash, decisive, hot-headed spirit during jinzen, and Shiru's irritable, headstrong, impetuous self encountered a cool, collected spirit. Basically the opposite personality to whatever Shiru is at the moment.
INNER WORLD
Appearance An endless meadow on a nice day. Everything is greyscale.
SHIKAI
SHIKAI APPEARANCE
It's a long tentacle with claws at the end. The tentacle is extendible, and can be manipulated at will. It can become rigid, and create a bladed edge upon itself; for swordfighting. Its maximum extension is thirty meters. It is covered in tiny barely visible spines, that look like slivers of silver. The tentacle is ten centimeters in diameter. It is incredibly flexible, capable of doubling back on itself and tying itself in knots. It can extend and shrink at cero speeds.
SHIKAI ABILITIES
Name: God-Speed Class: Shikai Tier: II Type: Passive Range: Self Description: Shiruko's speed is passively doubled in Shikai. Name: The Fall From Eden Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Offensive/Supplementary Range: 30m Description: This ability invokes an attack that can either be channelled from the shikai itself or the from the ground. Upon use a mass of thorny vines will shoot from the guard of the shikai at cero speed to envelope the blade and continue forth to skewer a target. This mass of thorny vines has tier IV durability and will attempt to impale or entangle all in its' path, though opponents are not bound. The vines will sprout branches and spread out over a large area, eventually becoming an amorphous shape roughly analogous to a sphere with radius 30m. This impalement lasts for two posts, and has a two post cooldown.
At the end of two posts it will stop growing and leave a massive thorn bush that does not disappear unless destroyed as it becomes an actual, spiritual plant that is easily broken off from the shikai with a tug. When this is done, the shikai becomes sword-shaped and loses its tentacular properties. This ability cannot be used more than once per release. The thorns remain sharp when the thornbush has finished growing, meaning that if Shiru were to knock opponents into the surface of the plant they would suffer from slight cuts and wounds.
The spaces in this thorn bush would be perfect for Shiru to fight in, for as it is made of his reiatsu, when he fights inside of it, his opponents would find it much more difficult to pinpoint his reiatsu, meaning that his opponents would have to destroy the thorn bush or have to play hide-and seek with Shiru inside it.
This symbolizes the fall of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden as scripture denotes that man would labour from that point on for their food and the earth would produce thorns. NB. This is not a sealed-dimension ability, it simply creates a large thorn bush. The thornbush lasts for five posts with a ten post cooldown.
Name: Eve Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Summon Range: 50m Description: Upon using this ability, one of the innumerable spines upon the tentacular sword glows, before growing into the shape of a woman, Eve, with long auburn hair, and separating from the sword. She wields a pure white sword, and has no clothes, and seems to be clad only in a halo and fig leaves. Shiruko may summon up to two Eves at a time, with a six post duration from when the first is summoned.
Eve's tier mastery is Reiryoku Techniques, at Above Average. All other masteries are Below Average.
Techniques: Release:
Name: Fruit of Eternal Life Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: IV Type: Healing Range: Touch Description: Eve is able to touch one of the spines either on Shiru's sword, or upon the giant thornbush, and it will produce a number of small berries. Upon eating the berries, all superficial cuts and wounds are fixed instantly, and all poisons are healed should this technique have more advantages.
Name: Touch of Death Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: IV Type: Poison Range: Touch Description: When Eve touches a male of any race (inter-sex defaults to male) she spreads a poison. This poison causes nausea and a migraine after two posts, and vomiting after four, for equal advantaged opponents. For 2+ advantages it merely causes a headache and nausea. For -2 advantages it accelerates, causing symptoms to manifest in half the time.
Name: Breeding Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: III Type: Illusion/Supplementary Range: 50m Description: This technique creates many illusory dopple-gangers of Eve, up to 10 at a time. They are visual and audio illusions, but also have a non-illusory reiatsu signature, such that if the illusion were broken somehow, the reiatsu would remain but be inert. They are able to move at the same speed as Eve, but cannot touch.
Non-release:
Name: Fruit of Knowledge Class: Reiryoku Techniques Tier: III Type: Supplementary Range: Touch Description: Eve is able to touch one of the spines either on Shiru's sword, or upon the giant thornbush, and it will produce an apple. Eating a bite of this apple will make the user glow a pale white for three posts. Should they be hit by a technique during this time, they will understand its workings fully.
Name: The End of Innocence Class: Shikai Tier: III/IV Type: Offensive/Defensive Range: Self Description: Shiru can use this ability only after he has activated the "Fall from Eden" and his sword has become sword-shaped (instead of tentacular). When he does, feathered wings of red reiatsu sprout from his back; he can use the wings as a kind of shield with tier IV. The wings lose their defensive properties after 3 posts, and must be re-activated once the cooldown is over. They can also be used as impromptu weapons for bashing/grappling the opponent with. His sword begins to glow with flame which does an additional tier III fire damage. He also gains a halo of light, which glows brightly so that it is hard to look at him. This makes him more difficult to see when fighting him.
This represents the Cherubim with the flaming sword Yahweh placed at the entrance to Eden following Adam and Eve's rebellion.
