Just another common noon in Karakura town. Criwded streets, open stores, some traffic in the streets, pretty much all the usual you would find in an everyday's routine. It was sunny today. Not so hot though, yet not so cold. Just the perfect day for relaxing in the outdoors and excercise, or bring your kids to play at the park, or something. Lovely day, indeed.
The park was populated as well. Kids playing football, some parents with their children playing around, you could even see a few eldery couples sitting on a bench and enjoying the day. Now that's a scene. Oh, and the birds. You could hear them everywhere. Smoothing sound. Well, not so smoothing when the cats chase them, but nontheless, it is nature. Apart from all that, you could see one more figure around the park. It was a young lady, around her twenties. Long brown hair and golden eyes, she was jogging around the park for sometime now. She had a calm expression on her face, almost seemed like she was smirking. She was wearing a red t-shirt, black sport-shorts and a pair of red sneakers. They seemed new. You could see a couple of earphones hanging from her ears, as well as a towel around her neck. That was Asuka.
She had been jogging for some time now. It should be about an hour. She loved to do that, almost every day, if she had the time. Apart from keeping her body fit, it helped her relax her mind. Though, today she couldn't help it much. It was true she had a weird feeling lately that she couldn't shrug off. She didn't know exacly what that feeling was or what it was about. She just had it. A couple of days ago, it was just a hint, but now it was kind of intense. She even tried to ask her other self if she had any idea, but she got no answer. Yeah, she didn't expect much.
After jogging for fifteen more minutes or so, Asuka stopped around the main, central area of the part, to catch up her breath a little. She looked around for any water fountain, while she wiped her sweat with her towel off of her forehead.
It was a beautiful day for it being in the middle of summer. A very rare and treasured day for those who enjoyed exercising or simply the great outdoors; a change of pace from the usual melting heat. Along with all the other people enjoying the park was a brunette teenager in jean shorts, a light blue track jacket over her white tank top and black boots with pink laces.
Touko was jogging like usual, starting out from the gym and making her way through the neighborhood til she reached the park, doing a loop around. She had her earbuds in as she ran, pausing occasionally to do her standard shadow boxing, throwing punches and blows at an invisible opponent before stretching and continuing with her jog. She had noticed another jogger, a girl that looked about her age.
Touko had just stopped for a breather at the center of the park, bending over to rest her hands on her knees and took in a long deep breath of fresh air before raising her arm to use her sweat band to wipe sweat away from her brow before noticing that the girl she had noticed before was doing the same. Standing straight, she nodded her head in greeting to the other girl. "Hey there." Touko then unclipped her water bottle from her waist and held it out. "You thirsty? I haven't opened it yet."
Asuka's attention was caught by a young girl nearby. It was not unusual for people to jog around, though she noticed that the girl was doing something like punching exercises when she stopped. She seemed like an athlete, maybe she was from a School's club? She shouldn't be older than seventeen, according to her looks, that is. But well, she was the only interesting thing Asuka could watch in the park, apart from some kids kicking a ball.
She stretched her arms, bending her body left and right, before letting out a sigh. It seemed that no water fountain was in that area. She felt so stupid forgetting to bring her water along. But, well, she had much in her mind lately.
Asuka noticed at the last moment the girl approaching her. She almost straighten up, surprised, as she greeted her, though she managed to keep it. "Oh. Hey there, girl", Asuka said with a sly smile, nodding back at the girl. Her eyes followed the girl's hand that took the bottle and offered it at Asuka. She blinked once, staring at the bottle then back at the girl, with a somewhat confused glance. "Yes, I am - wait, no, I mean, I shouldn't take that from you, you'll probably need it." She rubbed her sweaty hair as she gave off at the girl an awkward giggle. Well, she got caught of guard. Not many offer their water out randomly to a stranger.
"But thank you for the offer. I will survive, somehow...", she now said in a more normal way, smiling back at that girl. "I noticed you were doing some punching stuff back there. Are you in School's boxing club or something? Well, are you in school, actually, hehe".
Touko nodded in acknowledgement of the other girl's greeting with a small friendly smile. As she said yes, the teen held the water bottle out more to her before stopping as she changed her answer. Tilting her head in mild confusion and amusement, Touko couldn't help but giggle along with her.
"No really it's fine. Look." She broke open the top and then popped up the secondary lid before holding the bottle up and squeezing it, causing a fountain of water to shoot into her mouth without the bottle ever actually touching her mouth. Her aim wasn't spectacular though so she sort of missed and got some on her lips and chin, which she wiped away somewhat bashfully before holding out the bottle to the other girl again. "You can have a squirt or two at least if you want."
As Touko fanned herself with her free hand, she couldn't help but grin as the girl commented on her shadow boxing before asking her a series of questions. "Uh, well yeah I am in school. Karakura high school, but they don't have a girl's boxing club or anything." That last bit was said a bit bitterly before she explained, "My dad runs a boxing gym though."
Then Touko looked over the girl and upon closer inspection, she realized that she might be older than she first thought. "You're...not in high school I take it?"
Asuka blinked a couple of times and almost sweatdropped, watching the girl trying to pour some water into her mouth from a distance, not so successfully. "Oh well, I guess it won't be polite to decline such a generous offer", she said with a smirk, as Asuka took the bottle the girl offered at her. Tilting her head upwards, she brought the bottle above and carefully poured some water into her mouth. Letting out a sigh of relief, she returned the bottle back to its owner.
"Arigato!", she said now with a smile, wiping her mouth. "Oh, they don't? I had the impression that they did. Oh well, we actually had in Tokyo, maybe that's why..". Asuka rubbed her chin as she spoke. She was trying to remember if she had heard wrong, or she confused the Karakura high school with the Tokyo one. In any case, she would never find out. At least now she knew the correct answer. Her face sparkled on the girl's next words. She looked straight into her eyes, you could see the excitement overtaking her. "Your dad runs a boxing gym?! Where?! I should have known it!"
You could witness Asuka getting so high upon hearing that, something that would confuse the girl, as to why. But her excitement almost made her look like she could do anything at that moment. You could feel some kind of energetic aura flouding around Asuka. Well, she was passionate about boxing. And what more exciting than hearing about a boxing gym, she somehow missed.
"You know, I am a martial artist too! A kickboxer, most of all. And no, I had finished high school a couple of years now, but that doesn't matter, I am a kickboxer too! Where is that gym of yours, I want to pay it a visit at some point!"
Asuka grabbed the girl's hands, somewhat gently, and held them together as she talked all excited. Until she realised what she was doing. She freezed, blinked and instantly released the girl's hands. She rubbed her head, giving the most awkward giggle she have given in her entire life. "I-I, uhm, am sorry. It is just, well, you know, excitement and well... ugh, screw this, can't save it now". She grinned finishing her words and took a more normal stance. She extended her hand toward the girl for a handshake, with a smile.
"Bit too late I guess, but I am Asuka. Nice to meet you.
Touko smiled as her water bottle was accepted and the girl took a squirt of drink much more gracefully than her own attempt before handing it back. "No problem." She replied, clipping it back in place after taking another sip for herself.
At her confusion at thinking that Karakura High had a female boxing club, the brunette shook her head sadly. "I think they did a couple of years ago. But they didn't have enough girls that wanted to join one year, only guys. So they shut it down. I tried to start it back up in freshman year, but nobody was interested." The teen shrugged, glancing at another passing couple walking along before looking back at her companion as she voiced her excitement at her dad's gym.
Laughing a bit at the girl's sheer fervor, Touko elaborated, "It's not too far from here. Off the corner of Hibiki and Kura; just keep going a block down and you should see the sign. Saitou Gym. So..." The brunette had a twinkle in her eyes as she looked at the other girl with newfound respect and curiosity as well as a glimmer of hope. "You into boxing then I take it? Ever get in the ring yourself?" It could be that she was simply an avid fan but not a boxer herself.
Her answer did not disappoint. "Martial arts huh? Kickboxing is cool, I respect boxing because, well it's a family sport honestly. But it's good to know how to fight using more than just your fists, right?" But then she realized that the girl was primarily a kickboxer than a normal boxer and her face fell slightly, wondering how to break it to her, when her hands were grabbed gently. "Ah, um-" She started hesitantly before her hands were dropped, the girl looking rather awkward as she apologized with an embarrassed giggle.
Smiling back at the fellow enthusiast, Touko put her left hand on her hip as she took the girl's right hand with hers before shaking it firmly. "Better late than never. Nice to meet you too Asuka. I'm Touko Saitou."
The brunette's smile became somewhat concerned but hopeful. "Also...the Gym isn't really a kickboxing gym, more of a regular boxing gym. Though there are some people that come just to work out."
She had heard right, at the end. Touko mentioned that there was a boxing club two years ago, just when Asuka finished highschool, so she should have heard it back then. Asuka nooded in understanding while Touko was explain how to go to the boxing gym. It indeed wasn't far, if Asuka understood right her directions. "Saitou Gym, hm? Now I am sure I never had the chance to visit it, though I will surely do", she said with a nod and smile.
"Boxing is cool as well, actually. Well, the fact is, kick boxing is a combination of Boxing and Taekwondo. It is good, yeah. But, you know, the official Kickboxing is very restricted. Original kickboxing is rather brutal and lethal, to be honest. But which Martial art isn't, if you use it the correct way.", Asuka said with a thoughtful expression and a tone of mentoring in her voice. She had the attitude and personality fitting for a teacher herself, though she never tried it out. "And of course I have been in a ring! I actually won the Normal-weight, teen category women championship. It was fun!. Smiling and nodding along with her statement, Asuka shook firmly as well, when Touko replied at her introduction.
"Do not worry. I will come to work out. Or I could try out boxing, it could be fun, you never know."
Asuka looked around briefly and up at the sun, before taking her phone out of her pocket to check the clock. She placed it back and looked back Touko and smiled at her, as an apology for ignoring her for a moment. "So you were jogging, I hope I do not take your time and make you be late, it is just that, well, you do not see so often someone with the same interests as you at the streets", Asuka smirked, then rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "Actually, now that I think of it, you were the one who saw me and offered me water, not me...", she said teasingly and grinned at the girl.
Touko nodded sadly in agreement as Asuka lamented the shutting down of the school's female boxing team. That had been her last chance in being able to compete in boxing since her father wouldn't allow her to try professionally. But she tried to smile as the girl stated that she'd be sure to visit Saitou Gym. "That's great. We always welcome new members." The teen left out that her dad didn't always particularly like when those members weren't boxers or male, he needed to broaden his horizons.
Touko linked her thumbs into her belt loops of her shorts as Asuka explained more about kickboxing. Her eyebrows raised, impressed. "That sounds pretty cool. Hm...So...you're a kickboxer. And I'm a boxer..." The teen's expression slowly turned into a hopeful sly smile which only grew into a full blown grin at hearing the extent of Asuka's experience. "Whoa! Seriously?! That's amazing! Wow, I wish I could've seen you... You're so freaking lucky!" Touko's eyes were lit up and she was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement.
It dimmed a bit when the other woman took out her phone before she voiced that she hoped she wasn't keeping Touko or anything. The brunette raised a hand and began to shake her head in the negative when Asuka continued that Touko was the one to stop her rather than the other way around. Laughing, the teen replied, "What? You looked thirsty! You're not really keeping me from anything. But do you need to go?" Honestly Touko wanted to talk with the girl more, but wasn't going to keep her here against her will or anything.
Asuka smiled at the girl. She seemed rather kind and soft. Well, she should be her age, but people that develop martial arts tend to be more strict and hardened. Maybe she is new to the whole concept. Who did Asuka lied to? She was not like that, too. Her carefreeness was 'out of control'. The only thing that gave her determination and focus was her job and her training. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Hehe, pretty much...", Asuka said with a smirk, before eyeing Touko up and down. "You do not seem very experienced, though, you are new to that part of life?". Asuka couldn't help but to grin on her statement. It was more like a tease than an actual fact, though, she did believe that Touko shouldn't be in martial arts for too long.
Her face became somewhat gloomy, seeing Touko all excited and enthusiast about her championship. She let out a soft sigh, trying to relief herself from the dissapointing thoughts. "Yeah, it was pretty good... Though I have not being active for some years now... But I am training, truth is, so some day I'll go out there and claimed the Worldwide title", finishing her words, Asuka's gloomy expression was replaced with a bright smile of success. That was her life's dream, after all. A dream that she so wished would come true one day.
"No, no, I am pretty much free the entire day today. Just came out for some warm-ups and was going to hit the gym later. But that can wait. Where have you been going though? Just jogging around or you have any plans?". With those words, Asuka gestured at Touko to a nearby bench. It seemed they would be talking for a while, so why not sit down?
Touko felt Asuka's critical eye on her and felt her bristle and blush all over at her statement and question both. The teen felt her eye twitch slightly in annoyance but tried to keep her aggravation to herself as she answered, "N-Not really. My dad won't let me fight but I still practice and train and sometimes spar... Though none of the boxers at the gym will usually, my brother does." The brunette seemed to deflate more and more as she explained and made excuses, feeling rather pathetic. It was true, she didn't really have that much experience, no matter how much fighting spirit she had. "I've been around boxers my entire life, it's all I ever wanted to do." She shrugged.
Touko watched the other girl as her face fell somewhat as she mentioned the championship before saying that it was some time ago and now she was training to claim the Worldwide title. The teen's eyes widened, impressed at the goal and cheered with optimism, "You'll get it for sure!" She had never encountered a woman with so much fighting experience and lofty goals before and couldn't help but root for her.
As Asuka explained that she was free since she had only planned on training without any real schedule today, Touko nodded before shrugging at the question directed at her. "Just jogging. Trying to clear my head."
"That is nice!", Asuka said with a smile. "It is good to have a goal, for sure. And you do not have to be embarassed about being novice, everyone starts from somewhere, I am sure you'll become a great fighter", she continued, as they both walked toward the bench. "And you have a pretty awesome core, Boxers family and such!"
Asuka, reaching the bench, she leaped on it and sat at the back of it, resting her legs on the lower part of the bench, crossed. "Thank you. I just hope I will. Though it is not that easy. With all the responsibilities, jobs and such, I have minimum time. And if I am going to take it seriously, I'll have to drop a lot of them... aaaanyway", Asuka casually said, shrugging as she finished her words. She looked at Touko with a smirk and then up ahead at the park. " And if you want someone else than your brother to spar with, I would gladly help you. Do not worry, I'll be easy on you", she continued talking, letting out a soft giggle before looking back at Touko with a grin.
"Oh, clear your head?", she looked down at Touko, with concern this time. "What troubles your mind?", she continued, smiling softly at her. "Maybe you want to share it? Will make you feel at ease and I might be able to help!"
Touko's mouth quirked in a rueful crooked smile as her companion stated that it was good to have a goal and not to be embarrassed of her own inexperience as she was still young. As she complimented her background, the teen nodded with a more genuine smile. "Thanks. I've always been proud of my family." Even if they didn't always get along or weren't always together.
Watching as Asuka jumped up on the bench, sitting on the top of the back, Touko giggled before choosing to sit beside her on the intended seat of said bench, relaxing her still somewhat sweaty back against the wood. Looking up at the other woman, she momentarily wished that she had worn her hat to block the sun but brought up a hand to shade her eyes as she listened to her explain that it would be hard for her to achieve her goal of the World title. Nodding, the brunette acknowledged, "Every goal requires some sacrifice."
As Asuka offered to spar with her, saying that she'd go easy, Touko gave an incredulous laugh, "I bet I could hold my own! You're past your prime lady." She teased back, pretty sure that the woman was only a few years older than her.
The brunette's expression fell somewhat as she looked away to the other patrons of the park. She was silent for a moment as she considered the offer. She couldn't really tell her...but maybe she could get at least talk it out. Staring down at her linked hands as her elbows rested on her knees, Touko began to speak. "Do...you ever feel that no matter how much you train or practice or spar that you'll never be strong enough? Never be...enough to protect yourself or anyone else?" Her hands had tightened on themselves, her gaze still carefully down, concealing her expression from Asuka.
"I guess so. Time will so...", Asuka said, gazing ahead. It seemed that she was dreaming for a moment. Maybe herself as a worldwide champion, or maybe herself being able to follow her goal, who knows. She lowered her glance at Touko. "Does the sun bother you? Do you want me to change angle?", she asked gently, turning her body a little, in a position that would block most of the incoming sun rays on Touko's face. "Better?".
Asuka laughed so hard when Touko called her lady. "What was that now? Haha! You make me feel like a grannie now. And I'm for sure not past my prime. If I was at my prime, I would have been happy", she said, her laugh turning slowly into a grin. "And for sure I wouldn't whine about it", she continued. In all truth, she herself thought that she had to stop whining about it at some point. But she couldn't help it. When she brings up that subject, it brings her melancholical and good memories that she wanted to experience again.
Asuka turned her gaze on Touko, with somewhat narrowed eyes, as she felt her mood dropping. She could feel that Touko got somewhat unsettling and sad with her question. Asuka looked at her, without talking, awaiting patiently her answer, or her rejection. When Touko spoke, Asuka formed a sadden smirk, before gazing up ahead. "If I ever felt it?" Every effing day...", she calmly said, before falling into silence for a moment. "But then you know what I do?", she continued, turning her glance back at Touko with a smile. "I punch that feeling in the face with my already stronger fist, the next day!". Asuka gently patted Touko on her head. "If you are pessimistic about it, you'll never achieve it. You have to be possitive. Believe in yourself. Yes, I know, everything needs hard work and training, but belief and confidence is equally important.."
