Shiro had been very balanced in her opinon of the war. It was similar ot Mitsuoki's opinion, that both sides were foolish in their decisions. The Quincy had also had no issue with the statement, so no fight had resulted from her boldness.
After they were outside the house, Mitsuoki had taken over his gigai again and was shortly after joined by Shiro, who seems to have decided to stick with him. He was going to go back to the soul society, but it seemed that Shiro wanted to hang out with him some more. She asked what they should do, since they had already eaten, and had eventually come up with the idea of going to see a movie. Mitsuoki looked at her with a curious expression and began blinking in confusion. "Shiro..." Mitsuoki said before hesitating, not wanting to seem uncultured or like an absolute moron. "... What is a moo-vee?" he asked.
After Shiro's explanation, if one was given at all, Mitsuoki would agree to go see one, just for the sake of having a new experience. If no explanation was given, then it would seem that he would be left in the dark. If that was the case, then Mitsuoki would have no issues with it. He would just have to do some research later.
Shiro blinked in disbelief at Mitsuoki's confusion. "Wait are you serious, you really don't know what a movie is?" Should she really be the only one asking questions and seeking answers? It seemed Mitsuoki would need to be educated on some things about her world just as much as she'd need information on Mitsuoki's. Shiro stopped in front of the Shinigami, placing her hands on Mitsuoki's shoulders. "Then we need to educate you right away! How could you possibly come to the living world as often as you do and still not know what a Movie is?" Shiro's hands descended to Mitsuoki's own and she proceeded to guide him. "It'll be easier and way more fun if I show you instead of trying to explain it."
Ah the movie theater. Shiro stopped in front of the large entryway after guiding Mitsuoki there with her. "Tada! We're here! The Movie Theater!" Shiro announced, splaying her arms out towards the Cinema's main sign which listed the titles for currently running movies. Shiro retracted her arms behind her back and leaned in towards Mitsuoki, a concerned expression on her face. "Please tell me you at least know what a theater is..." Even if Movies were a newer thing surely this Shinigami had to know what theater was right? If Mitsuoki didn't know what theater was either then Shiro wouldn't explain it. She'd tell him to do some research at one of the libraries when he had time. Unlike her efforts to seek accurate information on the spiritual worlds, the human world had plenty of records and information readily available to read up on.
Shiro had asked if he was serious when he said he didn't know what a movie was, to which Mitsuoki replied "Indeed." while maintaining his confused expression. Mitsuoki then had his shoulders grabbed and Shiro said that they needed to educate him. He looked down at her eyes while she said that, not exactly sure about how to react to such a thing, other than agreeing. Evidently, according to Shiro, it would be easier to learn just by going there. She also claimed it would be more fun, but that was subject to opinion.
Fast forwarding to the movie theatre, Shiro had held her arms far apart while announcing that they've arrived. Shiro had then called the building a movie theatre, and wanted Mitsuoki to tell her that he knew what a theatre was. Mitsuoki blinked while looking at Shiro and said "Shiro... My every day is spent performing my duties in the soul society, and then training so I can safely avoid any of my work associates bothering me. I have not the slightest idea as to what a movie theatre is, that would be a human item." he then looked at the theatre and said "I am to assume this building is a theatre?" It was another way in which his lack of memories had been an issue for him. Most soul reapers had some form of idea of the human world since they retained memories from their past life. Mitsuoki was not most soul reapers, unfortunately.
A face filled with light became sullen and concerned once again. "You mean you never do anything outside of working that you might consider to be fun? Don't you get free time to yourself or something or is training all you usually do?" Actually this was probably the longest length of time in the last several weeks that Shiro had fooled around for. Every day she trained herself in an effort to strengthen her powers and grow stronger. "I get that training is important and all but, doing something fun every now and then helps relieve tension you know." Shiro turned to look at the titles and details of each movie listed on the Cinema entrance. "So what kind of genre do you think we should see? There's horror, action, romance... huh there's even a comedy showing right now." Shiro turned to Mitsuoki. Yeah, she didn't get the feeling he would be much of a romance kind of guy so that one was likely out. It was probably a chick flick anyway so it might not be something the Shinigami would enjoy... "How about one of the action movies? There's a new one that just came out a couple of days ago." Shiro pointed out, indicating the movie in question on the board before her. Action? Was she thinking because he usually had a sword he'd like it? Well either way Shiro was curious which movie Mitsuoki would pick. She'd brought him here but she didn't want to be the one to ultimately decide what they would watch. "These memos give a brief summary of the story if you want to look them over before deciding which one we should see." Shiro noted to Mitsuoki, stepping away from the board so he could have a look at it.
Shiro had asked about Mitsuoki's activities within the soul society, to which Mitsuoki said "We are given time away from duties, yes. However, I make it so I am either training or working. It is how I prefer to spend my time." Shiro had commented that training was important, but he needed to do stuff to relax and wind down. Mitsuoki had no reaction to this since he didn't have many things that he knew of that actually made him relax. Shiro had asked about what sort of genre of movie they should see, even commenting on how there was an action movie that came out recently. She showed him some panels that gave a bit of information on the movies, but, Mitsuoki honestly had no idea what genre he preferred.
Mitsuoki didn't read any books for entertainment, he read scrolls for the sake of learning. He had heard people talking about romance novels that they were reading, several of his roommates had also owned books where men and women performed romantic activities together, though, they were considerably more active sorts of activities. His roommates seemed to find enjoyment from those books, so, romance movies must be good... right? "Perhaps the romance movie may be interesting?" Mitsuoki said, even saying that he would like to see that one. The movie was one about a man who fixed up a house and waited for a woman for years, finding any excuse to not sell it when people made offers (The Notebook). Mitsuoki had no idea what he had just chosen...
"Are you sure about that? I didn't think you were the kind to be interested in romance stories." Shiro tipped her head to the side in thought. She couldn't quite place it. She'd clocked Mitsuoki as someone so often impartial to emotions that it was hard for her to know what he was thinking or even feeling when he spoke. She hadn't expected him to be interested in something like romance. "But if you want to see it then I'm alright with it." Shiro nodded in approval, rereading the summary of the movie in question. It was one she'd seen before but would be more than happy to see it again. The only question was whether Mitsuoki knew what he was getting himself into with this? Did he understand what the genre titled romance actually meant? Well even if he didn't, this visit to the movies was to be an education for him. She figured if he could learn through visually seeing then if she still needed to explain anything it would be made easier by the first hand experience. "Come on. Let's go inside and get our tickets so we can find seats before they fill up." Shiro guided Mitsuoki into the theater. It was not as crowded during this time of day. Most of the popular showings happened later at night, when kids got out of school and less people were on the job working shifts. Shiro walked up to the line of people purchasing tickets at the first register. It moved quickly so that the two of them had obtained tickets rather soon after entering. "Would you like any snacks? to go with the movie?" Shiro asked, turning to point out the counter lining one wall of the main lobby, behind which wafted a slew of different smells which included buttered popcorn.
Mitsuoki followed Shiro inside, keeping to himself how elegant the dress she wore looked under the lights outside the theatre. The lights were gentle and warm, casting shadows that helped to accent Shiro's modest figure and make it more apparent than the dress already did. She had lead him to the snack counter, which was decorated in popcorn flavors, american hot dogs, burgers, and sugary snacks for days. Shiro had asked if he wanted any, and Mitsuoki had said "I am unfamiliar with many of these things... I suppose I will try the caramel popcorn and the chocolate with crunchy things inside it. And... some of that grape soda. I had not anticipated for it to be in multiple locations."
When they got to the actual movie theatre where they were showing the romance movie, there were many seats open since there wasn't many people entering the theatre at this time of day, so they were able to get the best seats, the ones that put their line of sight directly in the middle of the screen. Mitsuoki would sit directly next to Shiro and say "To be completely honest, I have not the slightest idea of what to expect. I chose this because one of my roommates seems to enjoy books centered around this genre." It had seemed like the commercials were just finishing, so they got there at the right moment.
"Alright! One Caramel popcorn and one Hestle Muncha Bunch it is!" Shiro turned in line. There weren't a lot of people waiting in their particular line so the wait wasn't long. Shiro ordered what Mitsu wanted and got nachos with cheese and a buttered popcorn for herself, plus two small drink cups for them to fill up. "Here's your Caramel popcorn and Muncha Bunch, and we can fill up the cups over there with whatever drink we want." Shiro pointed over to the machine in the middle of the lobby with different colored logos depicted on it, which included grape soda.
Once they were in the theater room the chosen movie was showing in, Shiro guided Mitsuoki to the center. It was easier now since there weren't too many people and she always preferred sitting center picture on movies, not too close and not too far back. It was quite an ideal spot to view from in her opinion. "So... you picked this movie on a whim?" Shiro stared at Mitsuoki in surprise. Oh boy, this would be interesting. So she was right in assuming he had no real understanding of what a movie of the Romance genre was about. "This should be interesting then" Shiro smiled, situating herself as comfortably as she could since the movie's intro credits were beginning to show on the screen.
The movie was about a rather strange relationship where the man was in love with a girl and had bought a house and fixed it up as a result of a promise. He had kep it as an adult and tried to force himself to sell it, and use literally any excuse to decline a sale, even complaining that someone offered him double his asking price. Others in the room had seemed to have no issue with this, but Mitsuoki could only focus on how stupid and illogical his decisions were. He had no reason to keep the house, he no longer had to keep any promises made, and that girl was no longer part of his life. As the movie moved on and the woman ended up coming back into his life, Mitsuoki began feeling uncomfortable, for reasons he didn't quite understand. It was at this time that Akatsuki, his chaotic spirit, told Mitsuoki to hold Shiro like he was hugging a pillow. Normally, Mitsuoki disregarded anything she had to say since it was usually her telling him to kill someone. Tasogare had chimed in and agreed, which was slightly disturbing to think about since they were constantly arguing, but, if they both agreed it must have been the best course of action.
Mitsuoki reached over and slid his hand under Shiro, and one behind her back, and lifted her up to set her on his legs. The position would be se her knees and chest were facing the movie screen, and Mitsuoki's chest and her back were pressed together. He wrapped his arms around her and held her gently, which for some reason actually made him feel less uncomfortable. If Shiro complained about the object poking her in the behind, Mitsuoki would say "My apologies..." before reaching into his pocket and removing a pen that was at a very awkward position. He would then put it in his shirt pocket and Shiro would have nothing else poking at her.
Shiro found the movie to be quite entertaining. A man making a promise, fixing up a house and holding onto it, keeping it from getting sold in the hopes that one day the love of his life would return to him. It was just getting to a good part when Shiro suddenly felt herself being lifted from her seat... and placed onto Mitsuoki's lap...!? "W-what are you doing!? This is embarrassing! People are looking at us!" Shiro shouted in a hushed whisper, trying not to alert anyone around them to what was going on, though she suspected some people may already be staring and wondering what Mitsuoki was going to do with her on his lap. The Shinigami's arms wrapped around her, his chest to her back. Did he even know what he was doing right now? What it could be misinterpreted as...? That's when she felt it... something hard and sharp poking into her. "Something's poking me..." Shiro stated quietly, deciding to accept the position she was in, but only once he'd removed the confounded pen from jabbing into her behind... She was a foot shorter than he was and the theater was dark. That and the few number of people who were here had spread out around the theater quite evenly. The chances anyone would notice her sitting on Mitsuoki's lap or even caring was probably slim to none. Shiro still wanted to watch the movie anyway so if he didn't return her to her seat she would just sit there, her pop was still in easy reach from her position. The only problem with this situation would be Shiro's rising embarrassment and relative unease at Mitsuoki's unusual actions.
Mitsuoki had given no reply to Shiro's pointing out that others were watching since he could sense that no one actually was. As the movie continued, Mitsuoki had rested his chin on Shiro's shoulder and closed his eyes. His arms began tightening around her waist, pulling her into him more with him holding her. He was enjoying the feeling more than he cared to look at the movie.
Having Shiro there for him to hold had made the movie much more tolerable for him, for reasons he didn't know. Meanwhile, his zanpakuto spirits had both found it equally strange that Mitsuoki had listened to them, and that he was enjoying being close to someone. While they both wanted to remind him that he was a soul reaper, they could feel that Mitsuoki had no romantic feelings driving his actions.
He was able to sit through the kissing scenes, the implied 'extreme romance' scenes, and all of the stuff that humans would consider cliche with a straight face. The move had come to an end and Mitsuoki had released Shiro before the lights had begun turning back up so she could get off him. He figured it was the best course of action since she seemed to be distressed by the idea of them being seen in that position. If she had asked for the reason why he had been holding her like that, Mitsuoki would say "I was feeling uncomfortable watching the movie, so my zanpakuto spirits told me to hold you." he would wait a few seconds before saying "Normally I ignore them, but I am glad that I did not. You are quite warm and being that close to you made me feel very much relaxed."
The longer the movie ran on, the more Shiro realized she couldn't really pay attention to it. Not with her positioned on Mitsuoki's lap. She started slightly when the Shinigami lay his chin on her shoulder, but from this point on she couldn't help but be aware of just how close they were to each other right now. More than just, being a seat apart, it almost felt like something she might do with a friend... or even... Shiro was glad the theater was dark, no one would be able to see her being embarrassed this way. The heat rose in her face and she tried to push it away and ignore it by focusing on the movie. Which worked for a little while, that was until the movie switched into its more romantic second half, reminding her of just what type of movie it was supposed to be.
As the movie neared its conclusion, Shiro became ever more aware of Mitsuoki's close proximity. Could feel his breath on her neck, his tight but strangely comforting embrace. For all rights and purposes she should hate being treated like this but for some reason she couldn't find it in herself to be irritated by it...
The movie ended and Mitsuoki released Shiro from his lap. By all rights she should have been relieved and happy to have him finally allow her the opportunity to get down from his lap, freeing her from his grip and the embarrassment she felt. Instead she found herself feeling slightly saddened at how short the movie had actually been...
"So... why exactly did you hold me like that?" Shiro was curious, she had to know, wanted to know the meaning behind Mitsuoki's actions. To straighten out some of the confusion rolling around inside of her own brain. "I see..." Shiro responded after Mitsuoki's statement revealing his Zanpakutou's intents. So they were just messing with her then? That was actually quite irritating... Mitsuoki's next words drew the girl away from any thoughts she'd been gathering about how she could possibly smack some sense into Mitsuoki's sword spirits. "W-w-what...?" With all of the other people now gone from the theater, the main lights came on, illuminating Shiro's embarrassment just as it reached it's peak. Her face was flushed red her emotions were now effectively in turmoil. "Ah... um... Excuse me I need to use the restroom..." Shiro excused herself, moving past Mitsuoki, towards the theater's exit door and headed down the hallway towards the ladies room.
A splash of cold water, some paper towel to dry up her face. Shiro looked at herself in the restroom mirror. "What was that?" speaking to herself in the mirror, Shiro went over the series of events in her head. Had he been serious? Was this some sort of confession or was Mitsuoki just messing with her because of his Zanpakutou spirits' suggestion? She couldn't tell and she was afraid to ask. Afraid to know what it might do to her if she did. Even now she didn't really understand what this feeling was. She'd never felt an emotion like this before. It was scary and yet warm at the same time and for some reason it felt... fragile? Like it might break if one were to twist it the wrong way...
Shiro exited the restroom and found Mitsuoki. "Sorry about that, I think I drank too much soda..."
She wouldn't ask anymore about Mitsuoki's intentions or what exactly he'd been thinking when he'd done what he had back in the theater. Ultimately she still wasn't ready or willing to contend with whatever this new emotion was she could feel, slowly taking shape and welling its way up inside of her.
Waiting outside the women's restroom, Mitsuoki had crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall with his eyes closed. While on the outside it looked like he was trying to be cool, he was actually consulting with his zanpakuto spirits. They had picked a very strange time to call on his attention, but since he wasn't actually doing anything productive, Mitsuoki decided to humor them and answer the call. They had both agreed that it was time for him to begin training. For whatever reason, they wanted Mitsuoki to find a place in the land of hollows to use as a training ground. This place would end up being where he does most, if not all, of his training in the foreseeable future.
Shiro had exited the restroom and apologized for taking more than a couple of minutes, to which Mitsuoki replied "There is nothing to apologize for." When they had exited the theatre entirely, Mitsu had turned to face Shiro. "This is where I leave you, Shiro. I must finish my earlier task and then return to the Soul Society, as well as come up with a reasonable excuse for taking longer than expected." He was about to turn away but then stopped himself to add on "I was not able to appreciate the movie, but I enjoyed enjoyed being there as a result of your presence. Thank you, Shiro. Perhaps we may do this again on our next meeting?" he then vanished with his flash step to go retrieve that which had been lost earlier in the day. Once he grabbed it, he used his 'Vanish' kido to get back to his room in the Kido Corps barracks.
Shiro felt silly for apologizing. Mitsuoki hadn't acted as if he were bothered by the time she spent inside the restroom, leaving him outside to wait for her. Once they had exited the Cinema, Mitsuoki voiced his intentions of leaving for the day. "Alright. I'll see you again next time then." She felt a little bad for making Mitsuoki search in the dark for whatever it was he needed to find. The sun had set and darkness crept over the sky above, though the city lights kept everything at street level fairly well lit.
"I look forward to hanging out with you again soon." Shiro smiled, waving goodbye before Mitsuoki turned and vanished from sight. Once she was sure the Shinigami was gone, Shiro searched for a nearby alleyway. Once she found one that was empty of any people who might notice her or what she was doing, Shiro made the move to Las Noches. It was a super convenient way to travel back and forth.
Showered, dressed, and ready for bed, Shiro plopped down face up onto her bed. "Next time... I wonder if he plans to do that again..." Shiro's mind wandered to the peculiar physical contact they'd engaged in during the movie. Rolling over, Shiro buried her face into the pillow and let out a heavily muffled scream of embarrassment.
