Of all the Captains Theocelese wished to have an audience with, the first and foremost was Kyoraku Shunsui. Their brief sit-down told him much about the man, that he'd be one the few who would ever truly welcome an Arrancar as a brother in in this war. That the man had a cool head about him, granted it wasn't really Theocelese whom Kyoraku spoke with during that time, but still, he hadn't drawn his blades from the get-go. If there was someone he would have an interesting conversation with, it was going to be this Captain. Perhaps not the only one, but alcohol seemed to be something the Shinigami Captain appreciated. Thankfully, the former Espada could do the same. He'd sent out a message to the man, reaching out to see if they could touch base. There was the promise of booze from his homeland--which, if Shunsui had bothered to read up on the massive dossier on the Arrancar, would realize it wasn't some brew made from the distilled liver of a Vasto Lorde. Rather, it would be alcohol from Greece. Sure enough, a time and place was set, and on this day, the 8th Espada would meet with the 8th Division Captain.
Theocelese arrived wearing clothing fit for nobility of the bronze age. The only thing that looked out of place was the sinister looking axe strapped to his back. The sword and shield, however, was a perfect addition to the attire. Even the man's hair was done up with braids, charms and trinkets and hung at his side, a satchel which clinked with every step. Sure enough, a keen ear would determine that was the aforementioned drinks and yet, this was not the only gift brought. In each hand, Theocelese carried a decent sized plate. One held stuffed grape leaves, and the other, a type of cookie called Melomakarono. Having arrived at the Division Barracks, Theocelese stood about like a lost seneschal. Should have been any minute now....

EIGHTH DIVISION BARRACKS
SEIREITEI
There had been word sent of a powerful Arrancar that was visiting. Rumors of all sorts had begun circulating, especially considering the mysterious individual sought a meeting with the Eighth Division Captain. Those in the Eighth had remained largely quiet, refusing to earn the wrath of Lieutenant Nanao, but undoubtedly even some of them were wondering what was going on. From Shunsui's point of view it was a simple meeting, one afforded an individual who showed some interest is possibly joining against the Wandenreich. And really anyone willing to support Soul Society was welcome in Shunsui's view, especially if they contained the power supposedly associated with said individual. Nonetheless, the tall Captain had been basking under the sun, on the barracks roof no less, when Theocelese arrived.
Being an uncommon location to rest, all in the hopes of eluding Nanao-chan for as long as possible, Shunsui was largely inconspicuous. He simply relaxed, sipping from the bottled beverage beside him, and watched the other being. He projected confidence, wore some amazing garb, and had clearly taken time and effort to make a good first impression. And while Shunsui could appreciate that effort, the really intriguing mention in the letter he had received was about the beverage Theocelese said he would bring. Never one to turn aside an opportunity to try something new and alcoholic, Shunsui secretly anticipated sharing a glass of whatever it was with his appointment. And speaking of...
"Ahh, Theo-san, I'm up here," Shunsui said from overhead, the Shinigami comfortably laid back on his kimono on the tiled roof. "The breeze and sun are great. Come up and join me!"
While he waited, the Captain finished the last sip of sake in his drinking dish. Truth be told, Shunsui hadn't really been waiting for Theocelese to arrive, so much as he had taken a break from his many duties to indulge in some peaceful relaxation. Not a common occurrence lately, what with the war going on, but the tall Shinigami refused to let all of his personal time be consumed with constant threat and danger. Everyone needed breaks every so often, just to calm nerves, have some rest and allow for recovery. The enemy would win if everyone exhausted and their reflexes frayed at the edges, so it only made sense to take some personal time... which, Shunsui realized, had now turned into business time, so he could officially declare himself on duty, and have another nap later in the day!
"Welcome to Eighth Division, below you of course," Shunsui said in a low tone, his eyes lazily glancing over to the other being, his eyebrows furrowed. "It's nice to see you again. I hope the trip was uneventful?"
When the pair had first met, others had been quick to presume the Arrancar's threat. Shunsui had been less inclined, trying instead to remain calm and discuss, but at least they would have another shot at it this time. Sitting forward, crossing his legs, the Captain slid his drinking dish back into his robes and placed the cork back in the sake bottle opening. He didn't want to seem rude by having his own drink, but still wanted it out just in case Shunsui offered it to Theocelese.
Of course the man would be right there, and in turn, making the Arrancar look like blissfully unaware idiot. He did smile though, and with a jump from his position, Theocelese landed sitting down across from the Captain. Not a plate was dropped in the process, nor a crack in any of the three bottles. "A pleasure to be able to meet you in an informal setting, indeed Kyoraku. I hope I'm not wedging myself between your duties and your squad." He said this as both plates were set down between them. Clearing his throat, Theocelese reached into his satchel, pulling out a blue pack of cigarettes and from the box, placed one between his lips. He offered the open pack to the Captain, if the man felt inclined to join him.
"I've not been given any grief, thankfully. I know a lot of the Gotei are...unsure of an Arrancar siding with them. Mostly off-handed glances, and people clearing to get out of my way. I heard rumor Renji made the comment that he's glad I'm on this side." He couldn't help but to laugh at that potential fact. Maybe there were other Shinigami who felt the same way but didn't say anything, though the red-head Lieutenant was something different. Whether this rumor was true or not, well, Theocelese was wanting to visit Renji sooner rather than later. "Tradition in my culture dictates that I bring gifts for being received in one's home. Dolmades...a bit plain but I wasn't sure whether you were a picky eater or not. Just rice and a mixture of ground lamb and beef. I've also brought Melomakarono, a celebratory cookie with chopped walnuts and a honey glaze. Please help yourself." As he spoke, the Arrancar's lips formed into a wide grin. One. Two. Three bottles were pulled next from the satchel.
"I also have with me a sweet red wine, made by yours truly from the grapes on my property in my home village, a much stronger brew for when you decide you might need to risk going blind, and traditional Ouzo. Store bought, unfortunately, but the quality is astounding. These are for you, thank you for having me on such short notice."
With the formalities out of the way, the Arrancar produced an old looking zippo from his pocket, the faded image of a Remington 870 shotgun still visible and apparent, but maybe another decade and the image would need to be redone. Finally, he lit the peppermint scented cigarette and blew the smoke off to the side.
"I've been...managing." The words were a bit somber, and his eyes dulled slightly. "This whole situation...I wish it did not have to come to something of this magnitude for us to finally be able to work together, you know?" There had been three other times the man before the Shinigami attempted some sort of closing of hostilities with the Shinigami and all three, failed. The small affair with Shunsui was the third, and he thought, final attempt. "Much weighs on my mind regarding the war, and other problems that have come to light recently. I'm not an officer here, but..." He flashed the number 8 permanently etched into his forearm. The Captain would easily tell just who had marked him with that number. "The men and women in Las Noches look to me like the ones do to you, here. It is quite the burden to know every body felled is subjected to complete oblivion. I've heard the losses suffered here as well, my friend. My condolences." Theocelese took a long drag from the cigarette, his eyes leaving the Shinigami's for a brief moment.
"Enough of the dreary talk, yes? How have you been since we were last able to sit down together?"

EIGHTH DIVISION BARRACKS
SEIREITEI
Theocelese had certainly caused a stir, not only for being an Arrancar but also because of his strength, and it had put more than a few Gotei Thirteen members on alert. It was understandable, really, there were all kinds of considerations in a situation like this. Would Theocelese ever truly overcome the stigma of what he was within the Shinigami? Was he really interested in being an ally, or was he planning on becoming a spy for the enemy? Certainly the situation was delicate and Shunsui wanted to make sure that the being he spoke to now was genuine, even if only to support Theocelese's position as an ally to others.
But that truth would come in time, with action, as words were but wind.
Shunsui turned his attention back to his guest, smiling as he was offered some kind of item from a box. The Captain didn't really know what it was, but didn't want to appear rude, so he took one of the thin cylinders and nodded his thanks. For a moment Shunsui pondered what to do, before he tucked the small item into his robes until a later time.
"I'm glad the Shinigami have been behaving themselves," Shunsui said with a smile. "I like being honest, and sadly you will have those here that don't agree with your presence. Still, there are some - like Renji-kun - who will support you and be very vocal about it. But once the naysayers see what you bring to the ally table, I'm sure they'll change their tune."
Shunsui didn't have exact knowledge of what Theocelese was capable of, but he had certainly gained a reputation and standing as the Eighth Espada, so he had to of been pretty tough to rise that high in the group. Remaining quiet, Shunsui watched as Theocelese produced several gifts and spoke about his family traditions. The Captain would appreciate that, he did like his traditions, especially when they resulted in interesting food and drink for him to try!
"I'm looking forward to trying the items you've brought, Theo-san," He said, smiling at the items. "And no, I am definitely not a picky eater... I will try any food once! And don't mention it, I regret our previous meeting hadn't been more amicable between us, so this seemed a good opportunity to try again, without some of the more hot-headed Shinigami around."
Shunsui listened as Theocelese lamented the war, and how it forced people to come together out of necessity rather than choice, and the Captain couldn't disagree. There was also some interest as Shunsui observed the Arrancar lighting the end of the small white stick in his mouth, exhaling smoke that had a distinct smell to it. It made Shunsui consider the item in his robe, but he had to admit the aroma wasn't pleasant enough to try it himself. Drinking would remain his primary hobby.
"War is always regrettable," Shunsui muttered, frowning. "And I know exactly what you mean. Sadly leadership comes with expectations, extra burdens, and very few are actually ready to bear that when it's time... I still struggle with it to this day, really. But I have a responsibility, like yourself, and it calls us to be strong when others can't. And thank you, I offer my condolences for the losses suffered in Los Noches... this enemy is truly without remorse."
That's when Theocelese changed the topic to more positive things, which was good. Shunsui was starting to feel down, his lazy afternoon threatened by dark thoughts and pondering of a war he wanted to forget about for a while. Still, at least the proper things had been said between the pair, the niceties and apologies, which meant things could begin to arrive at the actual subject of why such a strong individual was meeting a Captain in Soul Society... but first.
"Things have been relatively well, Theo-san," Shunsui said offhand, shrugging. "I can't speak for everyone, but for myself I've kept a consistency for my Division thanks to Nanao-chan, and it's helped us remain stable and organized. It's all very dull, really, aside from more tragic events. And what of you? What of the realms beyond Soul Society? I do admit hearing some first-hand information would be good."
"I'm sad to admit that not many would feel inclined to trust the Shinigami within the walls of Las Noches, either. My kin have befriended some of the rogue Gotei before, as well as Vizard, but none still loyal to any division." Once again, Theocelese pulled objects from his bag. Two small drinking glass, which he filled with the wine. One of the glasses was set before Shunsui, while the Arrancar raised his own, a toasting gesture. "To our dead, and to our victories to come." He said with melancholic smile. There would be time for vengeance, Theocelese was sure of that, and then the thoughts of burying Noxa's teeth into some Quincy's gut while the weapon and her master roared in fury came and stuck. Mentally, Theocelese shrugged the picture off. All in due time.
Now what came to his mind was how much he should have indulged the Captain's question but...if he couldn't be honest with a man who was once rather welcoming to him, a man whom the Arrancar was going to call battle brother sooner rather than later, then why was he even here? To Theocelese, this little sit down was more than just asking questions. He wanted to bond with those who would be fighting with him against the Great Enemy. "Hueco Mundo is more quiet than usual...it is both refreshing and discomforting. We repelled the Quincy and sent them running with their tails between their legs, that was funny." He hadn't mentioned before the fight could even consider being half-way done, that something took over him, and he became one of the things that he detested. It took one of the Arrancar who managed to keep up in his killing spree and not get cut down as a result several attempts to lull Theocelese out of his blood-drunken state.
"I've officially organized my forces into three divisions of our own, if you would. Separated by strength and their true powers, I more or less have my bruisers, my skirmishers, and my artillery. Ranks are still to be solidified, but I have the Lieutenants and the like within each of these three groups. That has been the bulk of my time away from here. I know Yamamoto had his decree about my official joining but...well, I hope you can understand that I can't just abandon my people. Bah..." Theocelese laughed, waving his hand. "I need to refrain from that mind set! We're in this together!" This was an interesting segue into one of the few topics he actually wished to discuss. He pulled at the cigarette, letting the smoke be blown off to the side so as to not disturb his host. Another drink of the wine was taken, and this time, the flavor savored before swallowing. "As for the Human World...as much as I try to be active there, it seems to be free from being considered a battlefield and to that, I am relieved. Any souls willing to learn to defend themselves from the Quincy, or even feral Hollow, I have been willing to teach too. I actually acquired an active pupil not too long ago. Good kid...but too young to see the fires of war. I'm hoping she will pick up where I leave off, and aid her fellow mortals." He was talking about the young Shiro Inazuma. Maybe he'd bring her here on one of his trips.
The Arrancar stretched a bit, and yet again, sipped at his wine. He hadn't need to mention the capturing of Tia Hallibel to Shunsui, as the man no doubt heard the plans to rescue the woman from the Quincy's clutches. "Can I ask you something...a bit more relevant to the past?" He asked, but it was one of those questions that someone asked, but would continue to pry. No, it wouldn't be anything too close to the Captain's personal history, but more related to the Arrancar himself. "Tia said you and your brother captain, as well as two Vizard took down Stark. Well, you did. Mighty impressive, if I must say so myself...Tell me..." Theocelese trailed off, cigarette resting between his lips now. He cradled the drinking glass with both hands, thumbs running along the edge of the crystal glass. "Did he at least die with honor, did he give you pause and did you at least feel threatened by him? Did Barragan? The other Espada who have perished...detestable...but those two, and Tia Hallibel, I felt much with them. I even tried to get them to rebel against Aizen with me, but as the Fates decided, it did not come to pass."
Even with the words that were said, there was some...conflicting emotions there. Even in Theocelese's golden eyes at this very moment, it was present. Having failed to persuade his fellow Arrancar to rip the chains from their throats, placed there by an unwanted master, Theocelese's first attempt to garner some sort of shaky agreement with the Gotei 13 came with an offer that he and his men would fight against the Espada and their Fraccion, so the Shinigami could deal with their own kind. The offer was declined. Harshly. Shunsui, in this moment, could tell that Theocelese wanted to be there, if not to fight the other Espada, than to at least see them to their next lives.
"...and if I may be so bold, Taichou, I hope to be allowed the privilege to see how my brother fell. Not now, but soon enough." The somewhat sorrowful expression in his face gave way to a more mischievous grin, and he rose the wine glass, tilted slightly at Kyoraku's direction. "I just want to make sure my new comrades can hold their own, after all!"

EIGHTH DIVISION BARRACKS SEIREITEI
Shunsui smiled though it was more out of courtesy considering the conversation and how sorrowful the topics had been moments ago. There wasn't really as much joy in the Captain's eye, but that didn't mean he disliked the conversation or the being opposite him. In fact it was quite the other way around, as now the pair had a chance to really reach some kind of common ground and begin repairing old wounds on both sides. Shunsui took the offered cup of wine, nodding in thanks, before he lifted it and returned the toast. He then took a small sip, tasting the fruity flavors and finding it enjoyable.
"To our dead and future victories."
Clearing his throat, Shunsui continued to sip on the wine. It had a very different taste to his usual choice, sake, but it wasn't bad. Perhaps in time the Shinigami could grow to enjoy it, but what interested him more was Theocelese's retelling of events in Hueco Mundo and how they, too, had pushed back the Quincy invasion. It seemed the Wandenreich had overextended themselves too early and had underestimated more than one foe. Truly attacking multiple factions on multiple fronts spoke either of tactical superiority or plain stupidity, and given the result, Shunsui had to wonder...
"Ah, so it seems your time has been spent preparing, much like our own," Shunsui nodded, liking that Theocelese and his people had been busy. "Who you are and where you are from will always be part of you, Theo-san. Never be ashamed of that or deny it, because it would be like losing an arm or an eye."
It was a bit concerning that the human world was largely unaffected. Not because they didn't suffer attack, but because Shunsui had to wonder at why they hadn't. Perhaps the Quincy wished to force recruitment or had plans that involved the humans. And the feral Hollows were always a problem, but even the Captain had to admit that given recent events, the Shinigami were probably not as active as they should have been protecting the humans. Shunsui would have to rectify that, perhaps organize some patrols, maybe even venture out himself just to dissuade some more powerful opponents from deciding to become active again. Either way it was effort, which made Shunsui wryly smile and take another sip of wine.
Ah, I see.
Shunsui listened as Theocelese asked about Starrk, the Primera Espada, and the Captain fell silent for a moment. That battle had been a curious event. Shunsui had gone over it a few times since then, in his mind, and still found it somewhat regrettable seeing as how similar the pair had been. There had seemed a reluctance to fight - at least at high power - and only the escalation of other circumstances led to the Espada's death. Shunsui looked down into the glass of wine, pondering,
"Starrk was a strong opponent, powerful and intelligent," Shunsui said slowly, glancing up at Theocelese with furrowed eyebrows. "Both of us seemed to share similarities, if I'm honest. Perhaps in another time, who knows? Allies? Still... it was regrettable fighting him, and had it not been for an escalation in the fighting, perhaps he would still be around. But, I'll tell you something, his cero's hurt - he got me good once!"
Shunsui smiled wryly.
"Unfortunately the arrival of Wonderweiss Margela, and his attack on my beloved friend Jūshirō, brought Starrk and I to more serious blows as the whole battle became more dire. And it was then that Starrk was struck down after shared attacks. I will say one thing, he was one of the few opponents I've faced that have caused me to use my Zanpakutō more fully... so he has my respect for that."
Talking of enemies to others who had been allies was never enjoyable. Especially when it came to describing events, and whether to include small details that could tarnish or infuriate or poison potential allies against oneself. Did Theocelese want to know of Starrk's attack to Shunsui's back? Or the consequent response from Shunsui to Starrk's back? No, somethings were best left unsaid, since Theocelese seemed to want closure rather than details, and since it seemed Tia had survived, it was possible she had information to share also.
"I can't speak for Barragan, though."
Shunsui took another sip of the wine, shifting his legs to stretch, as he looked up at Theocelese.
"And I hope not, Theo-san, really," Shunsui said in a low tone, his eyes troubled. He didn't want to reveal too much, not yet, but also knew that his Zanpakutō could be... disagreeable, and play to their own whims. "My blades aren't meant for friends or allies... not even in practice. The risk is too great."
Shunsui raised an eyebrow.
"You mentioned a pupil? Tell me, has there been any suspicious events in the human world concerning spiritually aware individuals?"
Shunsui's internally assumption was indeed, correct. Theocelese was looking for some kind of closure in that matter. What he wanted to hear was more or less given to him. Starrk, of all the other Espada, was the one man Theocelese had felt some kinship with. Conversations with Tia on the matter on who the man was came down to what each Espada's aspect of death symbolized, summarized by Barragan in that string of battles. Lonliness. Hallibel hadn't quite divulged her own aspect, and Theocelese hadn't forced the issue. 'And what do you think yours, is?' She did ask...but he never gave her the answer. A shrug of the shoulders and a simple 'I don't know'. His mind left that thought, and the thoughts of the other Espada buried now. The rest of the wine in his glass found itself drank, and the Arrancar was quick to refill his own glass--as well as Shunsui's.
"Then I'm afraid I can't quite indulge you in my own. We run some similar paths, you and I." He said with a playful grin, raising the glass with a tilt once more before taking an honest gulp. The combat data on the Arrancar wasn't the most impressive, all things considered. Much of it consisted of personality, who he was within Hueco Mundo, names and possible origins. As for combat? All that was known was the shield carried on his back was, in all actuality, his Zanpakutou, something even Aizen found to have a high level of interest in. That, and if possible, to only battle the Eighth Espada during the day. The phrases 'Vampire' and 'Night Stalker' came up more than once. "Maybe training swords will do, but another day. I'm afraid my tolerance is...low...when it comes to a good drink." Hell, he was already feeling the growing warmth in his gut. The rosieness in his cheeks hadn't quite blossomed yet, but he was well on his way.
"Mmm..." The noise escaped his lips as he downed the rest of the glass, and rather than going back to the wine...He went right for the hard stuff. The moonshine, clear, and pungent as soon as the cap came off, found its way into the glass now. He sipped at it, rather than tanking it like he had with the much less toxic, and far sweeter drink. "I'm unsure if the Quincy are planning anything there, but I have patrolled and kept my eyes out for them. Your Twelfth Division may have better information, seeing as how they'd specifically set up their devices to find me." He'd continued to muse about that, and as far as ego went...It really didn't do Theocelese any favors. Never one to really like to brag, but when the Soul Society seemed so desperate. The thought made him abruptly snicker.
"A girl by the name of Shiro Inazuma. A...friend of mine, had made some comments about the human world. Our combined concerns are in line with this man. The humans have no business in getting involved with this mess--they are innocent, but those who can perceive us like any other person deserve to have a fighting chance. I'm ranting, my apologies my friend." Another cigarette was lit up, while the previous was snuffed out in between his fingers and placed inside of the bag at his side.
"A Hollow turned her into an orphan, and from the sounds of it, ate the souls of her parents. It's ultimate target was her...so I gave her some assistance to dispatch the beast. But what could I have done after that, Kyoraku? Leave the girl to her own devices, with no real knowledge on how to defend herself? She had her vengeance, and I told her life would no longer be as simple as she wanted. I told her I could arrange to have her powers sealed, her memories wiped and she could live as any other. In truth, my good Taichou...I really wanted her to not go down the path she is currently on." It was now he took a drink, exhaling deeply as the beverage cooly burned its way down his throat. "The other option was...well, I offered to teach her, as I have taught many others. I can't be around forever to see her from harm, Kyoraku. All I can do is show her what it means to be a true and honourable warrior, and hope she stays true to my lessons. I can't be around forever...you know?" He said this last bit in a way that may have been unclear, but open to interpretation. From how loose-lipped the Arrancar seemed to be, an inquiry wasn't exactly too out of the question.
