Mitsuoki had begun his day by doing things somewhat differently. Rather than equipping his Kido Corps insignia and heading to the prison to resume his guard duties, Mitsuoki had grabbed his zanpakuto and left the barracks so he could take some time off. It had been quite some time since Haruka's death, which was the last time Mitsuoki had anything that resembled a break. The reason he was taking this time off wasn't because he was tired of work, it wasn't because he had worked nearly every day for over a year- no. It was not so simple a reason as those. His zanpakuto spirits had both made a request for him to begin preparations for an extended stay in Hueco Mundo's desert, the part of the hollow's home world that was made exclusively of Adjuchas, Vasto Lorde, and Arrancar. It was the part where Sosuke Aizen had taken up refuge in the colossal palace known as Las Noches, and was easily, the most dangerous place Mitsuoki knew of. Before going there, the soul reaper wanted to make sure he had made the correct preparations to ensure his safety. This meant acquiring a few more techniques. There were two that he'd heard of that could be all he needed, after learning those, he would be able to go to Hueco Mundo and find out why his zanpakuto spirits ordered him to do so.
Where was it that a person went, when they wanted to learn something they didn't know? The simple answer would be the library. The more complex answer would be a massive room full of scrolls that listed every kind of technique that was legal to use, that also had a section for higher ranked people that contained the less legal things. The latter wasn't of any concern to Mitsuoki, he didn't need forbidden knowledge... yet. The bit of information he was looking for was four very specific forms of kido. The first kido was a spell that created a space around the user that cause light hitting it to pass through the barrier, rather than be absorbed or reflected by it. The resulting effect was something that made the user completely invisible. There was another kido, one that blocked others from perceiving the spiritual energy within the user, that Mitsuoki had intended to learn as well. After that, was another kido that was used to block others from sensing the spirit pressure around user. Alongside this, there was a spell that kept the user from being smelled by others. Mitsuoki's idea was to take those four techniques and combine them into a single one, one that could be used to mask him almost entirely while in the hollow's world.
The scroll regarding turning invisible, as well as masking one's scent were both found in a section that revolved around stealth tactics. The kido were both very simple, something that Mitsuoki could easily master in a few days at the worst. He took those scrolls with him when he went searching for the scrolls on blocking out spiritual pressure. Many soul reapers could mask their presence by lowering their spirit pressure; but, that required them to be concentrating on the task. He needed something he could use and spend a few dozen hours of not focusing on. Oddly, the kido he was looking for was found in a bin that people tossed their scrolls in for other people to put back on the shelves for them. He didn't question why that particular scroll was there since he was looking for it as well, it was likely that there were others who used it. There was also information in that scroll that helped with blocking not only the spirit pressure of the user visually, but also from being sensed when it was surrounding them. Mitsuoki thought it was pretty convenient. He had the four bits of information he needed, so Mitsuoki stuffed them in a bag that was slung over his back and left to go learn them.
This first technique that Mitsuoki tried to learn was the one that allowed him to turn invisible. It was so ridiculously simple that the chant for it was only two words, Negate Vision. He began reading over the way that it worked, making mental notes of the fact that it worked exactly as he thought it would. The spell doesn't reflect visible light, that would be difficult to adapt from different angles. It doesn't absorb light, either since that would create an area of darkness, which would be extremely obvious. The kido caused the body of the person using it to stop doing both, forcing their density to become so low that it was less than light itself. The kido was one of those things that either worked or failed, so he didn't have to worry about accidentally exploding himself like he had done several times before. He had spent several hours pouring over the scroll, learning the flow of the spirit energy that composed the spell, how the particles aligned themselves, and how he was supposed to work his reiatsu to work with the spell. It didn't take long to find a volunteer to tell him whether it worked or not, a member of squad twelve was nearby, and they knew the importance of experimentation, so the guy didn't mind helping Mitsuoki with his testing.
Mitsuoki and the gotei member went to a separate part of the building with fewer people, just in case the kido was a complete failure. "Alright, just let me know which parts of me are still visible, okay?" Mitsuoki said before holding the scroll up to begin reading. His lovely assistant nodded in agreement, and the trial run began. After saying the chant, Mitsuoki was informed that his furthest extremities: head, hands and feet, had been left out of the kido cast. "I see, I'll have to up my reiatsu." he mumbled to himself and began the second trial run, which was a much more successful attempt. It wasn't enough to get it right on the first or second attempt, everyone knew that you could get lucky and not mess up. To truly get kido right, you needed to practice it repeatedly, get used to the way you worked your reiatsu and the reishi around you. You needed to get it right dozens of times, scores upon scores of successful attempts must be made. By the end of the day, Mitsuoki had done the technique no less that three hundred times and succeeded in many of the latter attempts. With this, he was satisfied.
The other spells were fairly simple to get through individually as well, each being learned, but not mastered, within the timespan of a few days. They were individually easy to learn and adjust his reiatsu output to maximize efficiency, but, the hard part was combining all of them into a single kido that can be cast and left alone for a while. Using them one at a time would be exhausting on top of time consuming, by the time he finished, he could be knee deep in hollows, like that. His solution was to use a trick that he had thought of during a bit of work with another member of the kido corps. He would create a small seal on his body that would house an enchantment. He didn't need to cast all of the kido in rapid succession if he simply activated that enchantment, and, by projecting the enchantment onto a geometrically shaped barrier, he could leave it in place while he trained with his zanpakuto. It wasn't hard to make a shape with flat sides, a simple cube would be plenty, and it was childsplay for anyone in the kidoshu to make. He had decided to see how it went, and by the end of the day he had managed to do it. Checking with his assistant, they were able to confirm that it had almost completely masked him. The only issue was that it was stationary, which Mitsuoki didn't particularly care about since he didn't need to move for what he was doing.
