There would be no bread making today, no smell of warmth or sweetness to welcome any stray customer. All that dared venture near the well known establishment would be greeted with a closed indefinitely sign. Deep within its very walls however, a silver haired man, shirtless, sweaty and wielding a seemingly ornate katana stood panting somewhat heavily. Immediately three humanoid shadows would appear , forming a rather close triangle around him, each moving to attack him almost simultaneously. Ducking one attack from the front, the vizard would kick out with his left leg to catch the other shadow from the back as his sword arm glided through the air to cut through the shadow that stood perpendicular to the pair .
His motion fluid and instinctual the vizard woul pivot on his right to catch the other shadow with a swiftly executed roundhouse before dispatching the other shadow behind him with an arcing slice to the midriff. Only one shadow remained and before it could react a volley of bala would perforate its body, turning it into Swiss cheese. As each of the shadows dissapated the vizard would rise back up to a standing position, before exhaling deep and slow to calm himself.
A little rusty, he murmured to himself, but nothing that can’t be remedied with a little training. The years had been kind to Caesar as they generally were with most shinigami who had quite the lifespan. At his two hundred and thirty years he might as well have still been considered (and still looked like) a young adult barely out of their twenties. Sheathing his zanpakuto the vizard focused on steadying his breathing. That was the one thing that needed immediate attention, months of running around a bakery had kept it somewhat stable, but it was nothing compared to the rigours of combat. His mind replaying the events of Theocolese’s visit. He was naive to think that he’d never have to draw his blade again, especially after his encounter with the quincy in Hueco Mundo, the threat of the quincy however, also lay at the doorstep of the gotei and as much as he wanted to, the vizard could no longer stick his head in the sand.
It wasn’t long before his mind wandered to Ain, it had been awhile since he last saw his assistant. At first he’d simply held her absence down to the fact that the gotei were getting suspicious, but now with a potential war on their hands it made sense that they would stop sending her to the human world in order to help fight off the quincy threat. Still the vizard couldn’t help but miss the fearless, if somewhat annoying blonde with knack for disrespecting authority. As much as she was a danger to the bakery, the place was a lot more quiet without her and his customers were the first to pick up on this thought thankfully it didn’t stop them from returning.
He couldn’t dwell on the thought of them now, some would definitely have come today for their daily fix of bread and beverage but their slight grievance was something that would have to come second in the baker’s mind. He didn’t know when it was Theo would disappear but when he did, the vizard would have a second apprentice he needed to look out for, for her sake he needed to be at his best. Yet even he knew there was only so much reiatsu shadows and summoned clone would be able to do, he’d have to go out and seek combat and it was that very thought that caused Cae to hesitate somewhat. Deep down inside, as much as he hated it, there was something about fighting that, for lack of a better word, turned him on and it was a sensation that had only grown once he’d fused with Eac. The monster that was his inner hollow would remain permanently in check, but as recompense Caesar found himself taking on the inner hollow’s more sadistic tendencies. Even he knew full well it only took one trip to death’s door and the inner hollow’s shackles would be undone.
It was for that very reason he trained, he had to be sure that when he eventually would go out, he was back to his self. At the very least that would also help keep the monster in check. His breathing having steadied Cae would now focus on stretching and excercises to relax his muscles and keep them supple, lord knew how much tightness needed to be kneaded out. (chuckle) Yes his customers would have to wait, but in the scheme of things the fate of the world was a more important thing.
A tiny clinging of chimes would interrupt the vizard's cool down stretches. A sound he'd heard many times a day for many weeks for many years at this point. A sound that shouldn't be sounding considering the sign that was hanging on the bakery door. A sound that announced the arrival of a customer seeking service. The front door's bell.
Now granted with the shop being closed one would think he would have locked the door. In fact he probably HAD locked the door. Yet that chiming bell still had sounded as if the door had swung both open and closed. He'd then hear voices speaking in hushed tones. "See I told you she'd not be here either dumb ass."
"Well ok I don't see YOU offering any ideas!" Came another muffeled voice. "The reports said she picked up eight dozen tarts here every day." The sound of shuffling paper of said reports could be heard.
It would appear the vizard had a very strange set of visitors. Two of them in fact. Both male by the tone of voice.
"BUT SHE ISN'T HERE IS SHE?" The other voice argued back.
"NO SHIT!" Their voices seemed to each get louder as the argument went on.
"Man this fucking bites balls." Male A said sounding more pissy as the sound of papers rustling could be heard again. "I thought blondie had gone and gotten herself eaten. It's the only reason I took this damned assignment. If I'd known it'd been work I would have stayed at the 11th. Fucking over a year working on this and not a single sign of a hollow or anything. Missed the good fight back home....damn it all..."
"Well I sure as hell am not going to be the one to tell the Lt. that we've found NOTHING are you? Who do you think she'll make fetch all that sweet shit next? ME! And who do you fucking think they'll make pick up all the rebuilding and cleaning? YOU!" Male B aruged through what sounded like clinched teeth. "Fucking thing I don't get is that...she's just fucking gone. No muss no fuss nothing."
"Not like your ass could sense anything anyway." Male A goaded.
"Like you are any better...Fuck it. Let's try the park. Maybe we can fucking find something there."
"We've check there a fucking hundered times already." Apparently whom ever they were searching for had very much elluded them for quiet sometime. "I mean really she had the spiritual pressure of a fucking gnat...not even enough for a hollow to snack on...I say we just fudge the facts, say she'd been gobbled up by something small we took care of and get back home before the real fighting begins."
"FINE but I'm NOT going to be that pink haired demon's new errand boy. No way...did you even SEE the list Cordare-san was sent out with every day? No fucking wonder it took her so damn long to get back....hell with that."
And with that the bells would chime again as the two 11th squad rando's left the way they had come, sans gigai and through a closed door. It'd be dumb and strange luck for Cae that their sense of spiritual might was as dull as dull could be.

I hear music in the air tonight One familiar fading tune Something pulls at my infected soul I think I remember you
Distantly, beyond the veil between life and death, beyond the boundary of light and dark, between the sea and the sky, a young blond woman lay in a half-sleep, half-meditating reverie. Half-open ice-blue eyes gazed unseeing at a vast globe of surreal inky blackness, dotted with pinpoints of light. Her energy turned the world around her into a surreal landscape as though reality itself had been inked in watercolor. Within each represented star, a being was reflected, a shadow of countless people, real and imagined, live and dead. Among these were Theocelese and even Caesar himself, though the woman did not know it.
In her dreaming, the woman cried out, stirring, a nightmare playing out behind her eyes as it so often did. But even those were getting easier to handle. She remembered her purpose. Even in Dreams, the nagging memory haunted her, a puzzle to which she could not find the answer. It was this that crossed the uncounted barriers separating her from this stranger as he worked, instilling in the young man the overpowering scent of bread, from the yeasty scent of dough rising to the steaming heat of a loaf brought fresh out of the oven. So strong and overpowering, it would beckon one to check that there was not, in fact, any such confection close by. Even the waft of heat of an open oven door would accompany the overpowering sensation.
Within her prison, the blond would groan, turning on her side, eyes closing, and just as quickly as it had come, the memory would fade, and no more would Caesar sense the fleeting scent.

I hear music in the air tonight one familiar fading tune I can't save you from the monsters coming but we'll wake up very soon
The soft chiming of a bell seemed to draw the vizard away from his stretches. His hand instinctively clinging to his zanpakuto and for good reason, the bakery was supposed to be closed. He was supposed to be alone and undisturbed, but apparently that wouldn’t be the case. The vizard moved silently as he listened to the murmurs coming from up the stairs, taking care not to step too loudly on the boards so as to alert his guests of his presence. As his reiatsu panned out to grasp a feel for them he wasn’t surprised to sense that they were indeed shinigami, he’d had an inkling that they would come for him eventually, it made more sense to do it now with the war the gotei would be facing.
But the more he listened to their conversation the more he realized they weren’t here for him, they were here for Ain. As the conversation unfolded, it seemed to take on a more ominous tone and one thing that was immediately clear to Cae was that neither he nor the gotei knew of Ain’s whereabouts. As soon as the intruders came, they’d gone again and Caesar’s grip on his zanpakuto would relax as he let out a a held breath. Only for an overwhelming scent of bread to catch his nose which would almost immediately set the vizard on edge again. Not a single over was turned on in the entire bakery and yet the scent seemed so. . . close, the vizard half expecting whatever it was to fall out of the sky. With that sensation came the fleeting sense that he was not alone, straight out of one of those scenes from the twilight zone. Like the shinigami however, as soon as the sensation came it was gone and the baker was left once more with a very quiet bakery.
One thing was for sure, Ain was not in the soul society, which did little to ease the vizards conscience other than the fact that she wasn’t fighting the quincy. But where exactly was she? Caesar worried for his assistant, she was not as strong as Theo, hell she hadn’t even finished her training. He’d had half a mind to track those shinigami down and interrogate them, but they’d probably only know as much as he did right now. The vizard seemed to grunt as he closed his eyes, allowing his senses to pan out a great distance as he sought out Ain’s reiraku or spirit ribbon, a shower of ribbons beginning to manifest around him, it wasn’t long until he found the one belonging to his assistant. Confirming at the very least that she was alive as Cae latched onto it with his fingers.
Found you.
Sheathing his zanpakuto, Caesar would head upstair into the bakery and up a further floor to his own personal quarters. Taking a brisk shower teh vizard would quickly head downstairs to retreive his weapon and Musaboru Hito, his handgun which he would strap to his side. Stepping out of the bakery, the vizard would bolt the door shut behind him. The ribbon he’d grabbed seemed to come from the town of Naruki City, a place the vizard had considered expanding his business to given how well he’d been doing in karakura. Now it would be the starting point for his little head hunting expedition.
"You'll go to school today. Maybe tomorrow, as well. I'll pick you up promptly at release time." Theocelese had told Shiro. It wasn't a suggestion, but a promise Shiro made when her Arrancar mentor accepted her as his student to make some kind of effort to keep up on her schoolwork. The past few days for him, though, were ones filled with odd dreams. Different memories that surfaced as though he'd actually been living them in that moment. Recalling it all was...a roller coaster, and upon awakening, Theocelese simply laid in bed, staring at the murals painted on the ceiling. He hadn't uttered a word, hadn't left bed for a long time. It felt so...empty after the memories sent to him. One thing that did usher him to get dressed was the need to eat. Normally he could go days without actually eating anything, his diet as poor as it was, consisted mostly of coffee, cigarettes and some kind of alcohol. Having the human around helped somewhat, as did the events that unfolded the past few weeks. The discarded empty glass bottles that littered the floor of his room stopped growing at such an exponential rate that he was forced to clean them, and he actually ate what he cooked, instead of leaving his plate for someone else. Since the dreams began hitting him hard, he wanted bread. It could go with anything, but it was like an all consuming hunger that he hadn't felt since...
There was only one logical place to get such a thing, and he'd already made a small tupperware container of olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano and red wine vinegar to have with the bread. Fresh. As Theocelese put his belt on, he glared at the vast arsenal carried with him. Someday soon, he wouldn't need to carry these things anymore. Someday soon he could become nothing more than just a name, either whispered as a bed time story meant to scare the children to sleep, or they'd sing songs of him, just as they did in the old days. Gripping Noxa's haft, he couldn't help but to keep his eyes transfixed on her. Maybe he'd pass the weapon on when this was all over. Maybe he'd keep her, and bury the nightmarish axe in a vault full of treasures and trinkets. Underneath his shield the newest weapon of his went, secured and snug against his back.
He hadn't cared of the distance he'd be opening the Garganta to the bakery, and as it so happened...he walked right into the human world just as Caesar stepped out of the door. The Arrancar, for as much as a savage and noble warlord he looked, did appear quite funny to gawk at holding the plastic tub filled with the dipping oil and a decent stack of cash resting on top.
"Oh...There you are..." Theocelese said bluntly, the smell of an oven-fresh loaf of bread caked to his sense of smell. "Letting the new batches cool down?" Theocelese asked, leaning to the side to peer into the bakery. "No need. I'll take them all. Can you believe that little shit likes to hoard everything we brought back? We're already out of bread." He gestured back inside, like an addict looking to get his next fix. And like an addict...he also lied about just who was responsible for destroying the cache of bread loaves.
No sooner did the vizard lock his doors would he feel the upsurge of reiatsu entering the vicinity, a familiar one at that. Turning the vizard would give Theocolese a once over , his eyes immediately falling on the tupperware filled with all sorts of condiments. Did he? . . . .did the man run out of bread already? The vizard was sure he’d been fleeced of enough bread to feed a small army and the man was back already?
Must be Shiro, he smiled inwardly remembering how he goaded her for her flatness, she must’ve taken to bulking up with his bread. The arrancar only confirmed his little assumption when he mentioned that Shiro practically hoarded the entire thing to herself, a comment which brought out a light chuckle from Cae.
Nothing today, friend, he said, lightly clapping the Arrancar’s shoulder as he moved by him briskly making his way towards the street. Stopping himself momentarily when he realized he was acting like his old self again, the one who kept things to himself and shouldered his burdens alone. A few seconds in the grand scheme of things were important where Ain’s safety was concerned and Caesar couldn’t afford to waste them, but this was also Theo and so he couldn’t brush the man off so coldly, especially to bring so many condiments and tupper. . . why the hell did he bring that with him anyway? If Shiro was the one hoarding all the bread then he wouldn’t have had . . . . Caesar’s eyebrows raised slightly as he turned to face the arrancar.
…..gods man, there was enough pastry in there to feed a small army, he said almost amazed at the feat. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense, there was no way Flatness McNoChest could even stomach all that bread, she was still human and thus would have a limit to how much she could eat within such a short period of time. Shaking his head almost sadly the vizard’s eyes once again fell on the tupperware before they went back to Theo. It was almost comical to a degree the way he clutched at his assortment of spices the way a child would their lunchbox. The moment quickly passed however and he was immediately reminded of Ain’s current predicament.
Firstly, shame on you man, using her (Shiro) as your excuse. . . just . . . shame, he half scolded, Secondly, we can discuss your . . . pastry problem when I get back. I’ve gotta go find Ain, a bunch of shinigami showed up here looking for her . . . He let the gravity of those words sink in, Theo would definitely be familiar with Ain from their time at the Alliance meeting, he’d also know how . . . inferior she was to them in terms of her strength and how that could make her an easy target. Esepcially now since she wasn’t under the protection of the gotei. With that the vizard would turn briskly and continue on his way down the street, whether Theo followed was his own prerogative, but the vizard would look for a quiet place to open a garganta to Naruki City.
As Cae went to continue onward the street lights would flicker as if the power on the block was just about to go out. Even stranger the lights that were off in the bakery began to flicker on and off as well. The further Cae would get away from the bakery the more the lights seemed to going ape shit crazy.
It would be a very unobservant person to realize that someone...or something was trying to get their focus back on the bakery. The smell of bread was once again thick in the air, hanging there like a big blinking sign.
Speaking of blinking, it would seem to becoming to a stop. Lights had dimmed down only to slowly return to their normal state. A few awkward moment's of silence hung over the street save a few dogs down the road yapping at each other over the weirdness that had just happened.
Then with out any warning the block went dark and the bakery went bright for a moment, and lo and behold there at one of Cae's inside table was a person both would recognize. One figure that each man would see differently sitting calmly back turned to them, looking off into the distance as if waiting on someone to come from the kitchen.
For Theocelese the man appeared like someone from a very distant memory. An apparition of a previous life. The very King of Ithaca that Athena had set a quest to find, dressed in simple blue jeans and a long white shirt.
For Cae there was sitting a very familiar blonde....tho dressed in a way that he'd never EVER had seen her in, in an elegant, dark and cosmos studded dress that seemed more apt for a situation like the Met Gala than on a shinigami from the 11th.
Oddly for both men the moment recognition hit in their brains the bakery's lights too would slam into darkness, leaving them in now eeire silence of pitch black.
Even more vexing was the strange fact that whoever was in the bakery could still be felt....but...it for sure did NOT feel like Ain, and not because of that little ribbon urging Cae to a different town no...Whoever this ...or what ever this was...it was dark and searching in its own right for something.
Ad onto that would be the sudden and very mysterious vanishing of Ain's spirit signature and well...the boys probably could feel the hair on the back of their necks raising by the moment.
Well, shit. He'd been found out. A single hand rose up, waving as if he were the innocent party here."Hehehe....What can I say? It was delicious?" There was no question about that....but the more cheerful mood turned into one of a somewhat foul nature. He hadn't gotten to know Caesar's golden-haired assistant too much. Seemed to have a decent wit about her, and she could work in a kitchen to boot. The latter, all three shared some sort of passion for. "When we get back." Theocelese chimed in, setting the container filled with oil and spices on one of the patio tables. There'd be no interjecting, and the Arrancar seemed damned intent on joining in on the search. He kept a hand on the pommel of his sword and clicked his tongue a few times as he caught up with the Vizard. "She does take an affinity to the pastries...I have to make her exercise more to keep from..." He paused, before puffing out his cheeks and holding out his arms to imply a massive increase of girth.
That was when the light show started, and his flesh shivered. The scent of bread infiltrated his senses again, the smell, taste, texture, hell Theocelese even imagined he was holding a fresh loaf in his hands. "You're lying to me. You just won't let me buy you out so soon..." The joke was made in a monotonous tone, and he couldn't help but to turn back to the bakery. His eyes went wide, and he reached to grab Caesar's arm, his other free arm pointing back inside. "Who is..." He started, but stopped himself short. A grin formed on his face, and immediately, he wanted to rush back to the bakery...but it happened. Both men, Vizard and Arrancar, were left alone in their most natural of element. If this was some trick by the Quincy, they were either foolish or extremely brave. That...was not the case. The sensation was all too familiar.
"I think I may know who is doing this." Theocelese said in a mash up of confusion but elation. "She's been reaching me in my dreams, you know." He added, then continued. "Sophia. She kept sending me...memories of bread, that's why I ate all of it. That is why I am here now, to decipher just why bread is so important."
Theo would definitely find welcome company in the vizard as he strode to catch up, a little talkative but for the most part his words were a welcome killer of silence that prevented the vizard from brooding too much. They wouldn’t get far before the familiar scent of bread would waft in, seemingly from nowhere at that. Having already experienced this little scenario the vizard’s was immediately on edge, the hues of his eyes immediately starting to change color as he began to share his conscious mind with Eac his inner hollow. Turning back to the bakery the baker would see what looked like an apparition of Ain, at least what he thought was Ain, before it would quickly disappear.
The vizar’d lips frowned slightly as his hand instinctively clutched at his weapon, it was obiovus to him that that was an illusion. At least by deduction alone, Ain couldn’t exist in two places at one time, her spirit ribbon had her tagged at Naruki City whereas her apparition had appeared to him here, only one would be lying to him. The vizard more inclined to the little trick of smoke and mirrors more than his experienced tracking abiilities. One thing was certain, whatever it was that was in the bakery wasn’t Ain, but knew enough about both of them to try and use her as a lure to draw them back inside. A dark, ominous reiatsu seemed to pulse from within the bakery and the vizard might have been inclined to check it out if not for the fact that his subordinate’s life mattered more to him than some strange bread siren from inside his own bakery.
Turning his head towards Theo as the arrancar seemed to try and give a reason for whatever it was that just happened only seemed to confirm the baker’s initial assumption that it was indeed an illusion. Irritation bubbled underneath the vizard’s calm exterior, he was in a hurry of course and this, by all manners and means, was an attempt at delaying him.As such Caesar found himself almost in two mind about the situation, investigate the presence further or continue after Ain?
We don’t have time for delays here, Theo, he half grunted half growled. To compound the situation further Ain’s own reiatsu signature had disappeared and his initial lead had gone cold, precious seconds ticking by. Perhaps the two incidents were related, perhaps it was coincidence they just happened to occur on the same day, either way the vizard would have to make q decision quickly. Turning on his heels the vizard would continue on his way away from the bakery.
Key’s under the carpet, he said, you seem to know what’s in there so you’ll be best equipped to deal with it. Caesar trusted the arrancar would take care of the bakery, if not his little bread supply would run dry (not like he’d already taken insurance out on the place already), Cae’s attention would remain on Ain and more imporantly her lack of a reiatsu signature.
You can meet me in Naruki City when you’re done here.
Music "I know where the key is." And that would solve the mystery of why sometimes things went missing. Maybe that was why Theocelese always doubled or tripled down on his bill...."I don't think you understand, Caesar. When I told you I was helped...She won't allow it to just be me who goes in. And if I can piece this together correctly with some assumptions...She may be the reason for Ain's disappearance." He trailed off, taking several steps towards the bakery. The dimming lights, the aura felt and from what he saw...It couldn't be anyone but her. But why though? It wasn't as though Theocelese hadn't found the deity's presence foul, it was too....too...sketchy. He raised a hand, finger pointed inside at the business. "Mother," Theocelese began, knowing it best to speak in more enduring and thus, placating terms. No one being, ancient or not, could care for one so much and not deserve such a title...but some things made some sense now, at least a little bit. "You know I'll dance to the tune of your shadows and play the games of the void you wish to play...but Caesar and his mistress have nothing to do with us." He'd be right at the door now, and in one swift motion, obtained the key and began unlocking the door.
"Why show me Odysseus in this place? And...why dressed in such a manner? Jeans and a white shirt?"
That was when he turned back to Caesar, hands going to his pocket. He pulled out what looked like...a twig. "Caesar. Come here immediately." He thought it all figured out now, and with a smirk on his face, he waved it around as if it were alluring to the other man. "Tell me...does this remind you of anything? Perhaps...an old memory?"
As Theo taunted Cae with an olive branch, a soft sigh could be sensed on the wind like the man had said something silly. One light in the bakery would then flip with flickering static to it. Right above that dual figure's head.
"Ah little lion I am beginning to think you'll need your Odysseus more than I care to acknowledge." The figure spoke to theo through the door. He/s was now standing verses sitting though and looking at both the arrancar and vizard with golden eyes. Which for Cae would be a little wired since Ain's eyes were green and not gold. Those eyes would regard Cae in serious consideration.
"But...maybe this child of darkness can help you..."the figure would say of Cae only for eyes to flicker back over to Theo. "You know...his student is very much so the handful...She seems to think that I am not who I say I am..." The figure would huff at that. "Thinks me a dead mental patient who thinks myself a goddess..."
A sigh later she'd look back over at Cae. "I must apologize to you child..."Now there was a new fact for both Theo AND the baker. "I'm afraid that with my effort to keep her safe from the gotei's impending war...I've made quite the enemy out of her....It was not my intention for her to get hurt after I took her..."
Cae had barely gone two steps before Theo beckoned him back to the bakery, the back and forth becoming somewhat irritating the the baker given his much needed rush to leave and investigate. With a petulant grunt the vizard turned around about to scold his companion about how time was off the essence before a soft sigh would cut him off. Bloody hell this damned haunted bakery would end up sending him through the roof more than actually scaring him, but he indulged whatever it was that was trying to get his attention a few more seconds of his time.
Sure enough Ain would materialize before him and Theo, her eyes golden and her demeanour serious. Of course Theocolese would bring this thing here with himto his bakery, whatever the arrancar had encountered in his time away, it’d followed him back and now Cae was helpless not to get involved in this little dance between the pair. So much for peaceful training, he softly cursed at not keeping his subordinate under stronger lock and key, only she would get herself wrapped up in a situation like this.
Yeah, that does sound like her, he replied almost curtly. Not out of offense but simply because he didn’t know what this impersonator was and wasn’t exactly going to be all buddy buddy off the get go. Never did like monsters . . . .or the mentally unstable much.
His eyes wandered a little before rising back to face the fake Ain in front of him. You could simply just give her back you know, makes no sense to keep someone you’re trying to protect against their will.
You mean like you were planning to do once you got her back, Eac chimed in with a mocking cackle.
That’s different, Cae snapped inwardly, keeping her here means I dont have fucking ghosts invading my home saying they’re trying to protect her, not forgetting that I TRAINED HER TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE HERSELF SO I WOULDNT HAVE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS.
At the end of this little debacle, the baker would have words with his assistant. . . . .very. . . . .sharp. . . .words.
"Watch your tongue, Caesar." Theocelese hissed. It couldn't be helped that the man didn't know who they were speaking with here. From what was said--not just the slighting jest given to him, but everything the goddess said, more fragments of the puzzle began to fit together. He didn't think it to be this easy...but...The article given to him by Athena was stowed away safely, and with a soft exhale, the Arrancar sighed. His temperament not settled, he looked back to Caesar. "Apologies, brother." Now he looked back to the doorway. "I am inclined to agree, mother. Why go through the trouble in the first place for a Shinigami who has no connection to you?" He partly knew the answer, at least Theocelese thought he did. The look given to the goddess was one that spoke louder than any words could at this point. He wasn't sure if the random woman was mixed in this ancient spat, but he'd already been making assumptions.
"...Unless she does. And there's much you have vested no interested in bringing forth to me." This, he said a whisper under his breath. There was enough in the future he'd pulled Caesar back into with him. Fate locked their talons into his skin, and dragged the Arrancar into war once again, and in turn...he did the same to the very man he just called brother. Yet, with the lack of numbers and the sheer power those numbers consisted of, there was but only one man Theocelese knew could help him turn the tides. It may have come down to just several decisive victories, but they would see the Quincy crushed. This was one conflict neither could ignore forever, but Caesar... "Say what you will to me, but do not make Caesar a pawn in these immortal schemes."
Nyx would smile at Cae's words. Unruly children, she couldn't help but find them cute. "Yet another who doesn't know who or what I am...perhaps I am slipping in my renown?" She'd say coyly over at Achilles reborn. Then as if she'd heard the dark voice in Cae's head her own would tilt at Cae. "Oh? She really DOES mean something to you does she?" Nyx said skimming the vizard's thoughts. "Interesting since I've had her for a while now and you never even thought to wonder what happened to her. Even that pink haired sword of the 11th thought to send people out for her but not so much her teacher? Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Bet that leaves a bit of grit in the back of your brain doesn't it..." She was poking at the little lord of darkness.
The golden eyed gaze would move to Theo. "No connection to me?" The form of Odysseus to Theo and Ain to Cae would hold up chard dog tags and hold them in a curious gaze as Theo continued to speak. "To tell truth Lion...I'm not sure who's connection she is. She's a mystery...even to me..."
Golden brows would raise at Theo's request. "Oh but Achilles...He became a pawn way before I even began gathering my hand I'm afraid. Though not by anyone's doing other than fate's."
The two children of darkness would see their respective forms sigh. "Though the problem, and the reason I'm here though is...she keeps escaping my home." She'd give Cae a look as if to say that that particular thing was his fault. "And I need not what tell you lurks beyond the safety of my walls I hope Achilles..." There would be weight to those words. Like a fate worse than death. It was then the figure began to shift forms again seeing as how the vizard didn't buy into the charade and lo there would be one form for both eyes, and one that Theo knew as the goddess herself.
"She's got a strong will I'll give her that much..."I can not help those who do not trust me. Not even from my own ilk." That bit would seem to be said to Cae more than Theo.
"I'll cut to the chase. If I were you two I'd take that girl where the sun could never find her. And I'd get her there before the dawn rises in this world. Apollo wants her. I know not why....though than a few times she showed cunning in ways mortals should not have..."She gave Theo a look, "I do not think she's the one you are looking for little Lion. But..." She'd look at the dog tags again with much curiosity. "I am none to keen on leaving something Apollo wants so open for him to grab if he so chooses. Mayhaps he's trying to mold his own champion....mayhaps she's just another pawn in his schemes....but this I DO know....he is none to happy to have her gone from his reach...Angry even....have you not noticed how hot the days have been for this time of year?"
The dark haired goddess would smile at them both. "I must also add she's is a beacon for trouble in ways that even I did not expect. Once she escaped my realm back to this one I left her with Hypno to calm her mind as her body healed among my fields...but...well...someone else was lead to her to find and he has her now. I was ....surprised to say the least...tho...I do not think her newest captor will harm her..." She was rambling in ways that immortals do, to amuse herself like all the strange puzzle pieces did not fit but looked to make a promising picture once they did. "I like her little lion. I like her a lot. I like this one too."
Nyx's fluid form wisped it's way over behind Cae, hands gently resting on both the vizard's shoulders. "Keep them both from the sun little lion...for a while at least yet...and be...kind...to her newest captor. I'm afraid he's having a tough time dealing with all his bad luck."
Then with a turning cloud of dark shadow, she was gone, Ain's tags left on the table.
The fuck I will, Caesar snapped back at Theocolese, more out of irritation than out of anger, this fucking stranger kidnaps my subordinate and then has the sack to blame me for not protecting her, as far as I know she could choke on my entire blade and I wouldn’t give a damn.
Unnecessarily sassy on his part but this whole situation seemed to irritate the vizard no end, he didn’t want this. If he’d had his way he’d be selling bread, staring lazily at the clock and waiting for quitting time so he could take an afternoon stroll. That was his routine, not chasing after shadows that captured the people he cared about and spoke in fucking riddles. Part of him cursed himself for allowing himself to feel again, for allowing himself to train Ain, what was the point if in all this she was still as weak as when he’d first found her?
Anger bubbled up within the vizard and he could feel the goading cackle of Eac with every thought that permeated his mind. A deep breath would calm him as he fought to control himself even as she spoke.
I am no one’s pawn, he’d object rather loudly, nothing irked him more than one who spoke with haughtiness, as if looking down on the pair of them. The vizard had a good mind to draw his blade and cut her down where she stood, but that would be a slight on his part, not only that it would be just the thing that Eac wanted him to do. No he was above that, base urge, if anything and kept his tempers low.
That little trick seemed to help and before long whatever the apparition was had finished and was gone, leaving behind Ain’s dog tags. Almost immediately Caesar would grab Theocolese with an arm, despite his size the vizard would hoist his counterpart off the ground and into the air as he stared angrily into his eyes as if to say ‘you did this?!?’ an angry snort blasted from from the baker’s nostrils before an awkward silence would befall the two of them. Moments later he would set Theocolese down, another angry snort leaving his nostrils before embarking outside. Finding a nearby trash can the vizard would lunge towards it, violently smashing it to a scrap with his hollowfied hand. Once he’d finished he’d exhale and would surprisingly be calm again.
He wasn’t so much angry with Theocolese as he was overwhelmed by . . . .all of this. Whatever that apparition was its words had hit a raw nerve and it was only natural for Cae to blame his friend since, by his logic, he’d brought that thing with him to the bakery. The more he thought about it though, the more he realized that there was no point in getting angry, what happened had happened and there was no changing it.
Marching back inside he would head straight towards Theo, pointing a hollowfied finger at the arrancar as if to hurl some insult, holding that pose for but a second before moving towards the table and grabbing the dog tags. I don’t know what the hell it is you’re mixed up in here, but I’m going to open a senkaimon to Naruki, he spoke calmly and coolly. In the time it takes us to get from here to Naruki you will tell me exactly what it is you know about that. . . thing and what exactly is going on and why me and Ain are involved.
Cae would then move to stab the open air with his blade, the door of a senkaimon opening before the two of them. Turning to face the arrancar once more Caesar would give him a momentary forgiving glance before growing more stern once again. No bread for a month. No buts, no fuss. Consider this your punishment.
With that the vizard would step in, leaving the door open for his friend to follow in after him.
The throbbing in the back of the Arrancar's skulls began pulse, the pain of repressed rage starting when hearing that this was of Apollo's doing. The ability to think straight was beginning to deteriorate, but there was only the image of the platinum-haired goddess in his mind that kept the Arrancar in check. He was silent, though looked to be nearly seething at all the words spat out by Nyx. It didn't take long for one to love another, especially when the truth of one's past came to light. Now, it came out full force. Something he'd wished no one would know, a past life, a past self, now so hatefully gripping at the reigns. It cost him much, almost too much to bear, and even now it threatened to take away so much more. One slip, one crack. That would all it would take. Caesaer's seizing of his person almost set him over the edge, and the Arrancar's iron fingers began to twitch as if the devil himself were possessing them, desperately fighting to reach for his blade. His bearded face contorted into something vile, and never before had Caesar seen the intense swirling of madness and violence in Theocelese's eyes that he saw now. Whatever it was he was enduring, whoever he was dealing with, was taking its toll on him. The Vizard was not the only one contending with an internal beast. Only the gods Theocelese spoke of knew what storm truly raged behind Theocelese's eyes.
The throbbing became a continuous stream of white-hot agony, and the red haze began to overtake his vision. An audible growl came out, slow and guttural. Whatever was tethering him to violence kept him from committing betrayal here and now. Finally, his feet touched the ground and he only registered it just a few seconds afterward...and with a silent and deep inhale, Theocelese closed his eyes. He said nothing for a few moments. The hideous look that turned his noble-looking face into something only told of in frightening children's stories turned to an emotionless look. There was nothing there, not even when his eyes opened, the golden hues were dim and dull. Not sparkling with humor life like what the Vizard would have been so used to. Truthfully, the image of his wife staring at him longingly through the break in dimensions created by Nyx was not enough for Theocelese to keep from thirsting for blood. From image to voice, he heard her beautiful voice sing to him, feeling her hand caressing his bearded jawline as she did so.
Still as silent as a midnight village, Theocelese followed Caesar. Normally, he would have protested or tried to find some kind of loophole to get the fix for his current food addiction. More than likely, he would have used Shiro for such a thing....but there was nothing. No excuses, no pleas. "I told you of Segunda Etapa." He began, the words spoken, and would continue to be, measured and sharp. "I told you of what I did to gain this power and who I was forced to kill. I told you the Sun God, Apollo has my wife and that I will break him. I never told you why I have been unknowingly dancing his games until now." Finally, a semblance of the Arrancar's true personality, or the one that Caesar knew to be true, showed itself. He lit up a cigarette, but took it slowly, savoring the sensations and looking the stick over as if he'd never tasted such a deadly treat before. "That...thing, as you so put it...is a goddess. Of the old days, her age makes even you look like nothing more than a speck of dust in the galaxy's timeline. She is known for many things, but...she is the master of the realm we excel in. Darkness. I call her mother because she has been one to me without my knowing for fifty years. Her name is Nyx. And she is more powerful than you and I combined.
In the old days when her kind was worshiped that my soul lived and died its first life. I was known then as Achilles. You know this name." He said as a fact, not a question. "You know me by the books, movies, and stories made to tell the tale. Some accounts are wrong when we invaded Troy. The truth of the matter is I, and my Myrmidons took that beach. We killed hundreds that day with the slightest of losses on our end. I remember them--the men on all those boats still far from shore chanting my name in thunderous applause! And by the time their feet touched the sand, it was already over.
There was a temple being defended by some, and I killed all the guards down to the last man. By statue alone I knew it to be..." The words escaped his lips, and at that moment, he stopped just as well. His fingers twitched again, and the killer's look returned to his eyes. "That fucking milksop..." He then, with a long, very Theocelese-style drag from the cigarette, and continued onwards. The look did not diminish from his face, however, his fingers relaxed. "Crafted on one knee, bow held high in aim as if to guard the temple. One of my men, Eudorus, tried to reason with me. But I feared no one then, not even a god. And in defiance of the patron of my enemy, I severed the head of that golden statue, and ordered my Myrmidon to plunder the temple. They took what they wished, and killed all the priests." There was a long silence as Theocelese...or Achilles, finished most of the tale, at least why this was all happening in the first place. Caesaer demanded this, and so he would oblige. But just as Sophia had to accept the reason for the Arrancar's, and her torment with utter bewilderment, Caesar might have had to do the same. All because of one.Single.Statue.
"Since the day I first died, since Apollo guided Paris' arrow to kill me, I was free to Fate's whims. Afterwards, he has tortured my soul. One life after another after another, until now when I have been given the power and means to kill him. To kill a god." He flicked the cigarette away, and went right for another. "As to how you and Ain fit in this...I think I may now know why Ain is so...sought after. I must ask her something first, and see. You, Caesar Caero?" He asked in a manner that sounded like they'd just met. "You are the same as I. Children of the night. Blessed by Nyx do we stalk the shadows and in the darkness, we break the resolve of our enemies. But...you are tied to Ain...and as our mother has said to me, I will keep you both wrapped in the only veil far from Apollo's all-seeing eyes. You both will come back to Hueco Mundo with me." Just past the gateway into Naruki city, Theocelese grabbed Caesar by the arm. The look of intense hatred had left his eyes, and now replacing it, worry. "I cannot fight the Sun God if there is the chance he will seek your soul for death and add it as another plaything should the worst happen. I know you are strong--the strongest of all I have ever met, but Apollo will not come after you in a manner you see fit. Ease my mind and tell me you will remain in the Night World with Ain until this is all said and done. I vowed to return. You must vow to do as our kind must do to survive...Run to the dark to stay alive"
