[Yes, there is a typo in the thread's name. This thread will have stories from Ava's life before she became the person that she is as of now. It will give her some more back story on where she came from and how she grew up to be the person she is, as well as how she got her job. There will also be some posts that tell about things she has read, short stories or things of that sort that will be continued across multiple posts.]
Day 1: The book store
Ava loved coming to the book store whenever she had free time, it gave her a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. It was her way of escaping the harsh reality of her own life and entering into any world she desired. She would stay there for hours until closing time just reading books and drinking her chai tea. It had only been two weeks since she stumbled across this place during one of her missions. She promised herself that she would come back and look at the store more when she was not working. Little did she know at the time that this would become a place that would change the course of her life but not just her own, but also the life of the guy who worked for her father on the farm.
She settled in to her usual place, a large comfy dark blue recliner in the very back corner of the store. There were seemingly thousands of books in the store. The store reminded her more of one of those old libraries rather than just a store. The way the books were displayed were on large, endless shelves made from old, polished mahogany. There was a massive staircase that led to an upstairs area that ran around the inside perimeter of the store, mimicking a mezzanine. Long archways, made of the same mahogany wood as the book cases, made there way all the way up to the top of the ceiling where strange pictures were painted. Scenes of warriors going to battle strange looking animals. Ava liked staring up at the ceiling paintings because it made her feel as though she were in the Sistine Chapel. She assumed these paintings were supposed to give people some inspiration to read fiction.
There was a book that stood out to her today, It had no writing on the book, no name and no author, like the majority of the books in the store. After asking one of the workers about this one day while she grabbed her tea from the downstairs coffee shop, the man told her that a lot of these books were written by people who wanted their work to be published but remain anonymous. The book felt old, something that Ava enjoyed, she cracked open the book and again the same strange markings that were in all of the books covered the first two pages of the book. She began to read:
"How long has it been? Where does the time go? Oh, excuse me, I forgot I wasn’t alone anymore. My name is… well, why should I introduce myself? You are the one who came in here uninvited. The real question is who are YOU? It doesn’t matter anyway, I’m not interested, nor do I care. I’m on my way to my new job at this abandoned warehouse. Sounds pretty spooky if you’re the superstitious type, I guess. I’m a nightguard. I decided to walk to work tonight because it is a nice night out, moon shining, stars above, the warm breeze of summer kissing my cheeks as I walk. I often walk places considering I do not own a car and I hate taking public transportation. There is something about being surrounded by large groups of angry, hot people that did not sound pleasing to me at all. I like being by myself, hence me wanting to take a nighttime job at a place with zero social interaction. It’s ironic really, I found myself tonight, wishing I were on a bus surrounded by people instead of stuck in this, this cruel twist of fate. I’m getting ahead of myself though."

Day 2: David
The hotel room was small, but Ava was used to this sort of thing when she was on one of her missions. Her assignment was to "take out" one of the master hackers that was stealing millions of dollars from her company. The man was a regular civilian, or at least, that's what Ava thought. Staring down at the spread before her, she picked up the photo of the guy off the dusty comforter of the bed and read his profile. He was fair skinned, with dark hair and a large scar that ran through the thick hair of his right eyebrow. A 5'10" gentleman, which was slightly intimidating compared to Ava's 5'6", small frame. She would have been more intimidated if it were not for the fact that she has taken down a 6'8" man with just her hands. Even though she was fairly small, she was quick, which gave her an edge. She was good at her job, that's why the company assigned her take care of the job alone. Flipping through the papers, she gathered that he worked for the Warche company. A company that was her biggest competitor, but they ranked second to her own in every way. This guy was new, he somehow figured out a way to always stay one step ahead of them. Normally her company would eliminate the issue quickly, but this guy was the first to manage hacking into their computer systems and shutting the place down for a full 24 hours.
The sound of the door unlocking came from around the corner. Ava froze for one second to think. She quickly shut off the lights and grabbed her 9mm luger pistol from underneath her shirt. She always had something on her in self defense. There was never a time Ava was not prepared to fight for her life, not that she really needed any weapon to do that. Ava had always been a great combative fighter in her own respect. Her uncle, along with her job training taught her how to always be ready. She slid around the corner, into the bathroom behind her. Her breath slowing, she knew she only had a minute or so before she was found. Looking around the corner, with half of her body still in the darkness of the bathroom, she pointed her pistol straight at the door, ready to shoot. Even with as well aware of her surroundings Ava had been, she did not see what came next. She felt a breeze behind her, as though someone had opened the window. She turned around to look, but she was already too late. Her head was knocked against the wall, causing her to drop her pistol onto the ground. And then, there was just darkness as the room faded and spun around her. The last thing she remembered seeing was the outline of what looked like a man, standing above her.
Water ran all down Ava's face and neck, onto her shirt and pants. Opening her eyes, she saw a man sitting in front of her smiling as though he had finished a masterpiece and it was ready for the world to view. After adjusting her eyes to the light, she immediately recognized the man to be the master hacker. How could she have been so ill prepared for a situation such as this? He must have seen the look on her face because his response was like he read her mind.
"You underestimated me." He said, one corner of his mouth moving up into a smirk. "Big mistake".
"Is that so?" she replied, wincing at the pain in her left temple, where her head was smashed into the wall. "And how do you know that this was not all part of my plan?"
He paced for a minute, laughing slightly. She could see that he was fairly young, like her. His face peppered with tiny brown freckles. The muscles in his back flexing as he walked. "Let's cut the bullshit. I know that you were sent to kill me, but I'm guessing you did not expect that I was also sent to kill you." He smiled again, it wasn't quite a wicked smile, but more like a smile of someone who was very sure of themselves. In a way, it was almost charming, Ava thought.
Ava's eyes thinned into small slits, her right eyebrow raising and her head cocking to the side. "If you know so much and were sent here to kill me, why haven't you then? Why bother talking to me about it, why not just get the job done?" It made no sense to Ava to keep this series of events going any longer.
He walked up close to her and came eye level with her. She was sitting in a chair, tied up from head to toe, the only thing she was able to move was her head. Arms tied behind her and her legs tied together, all while her torso was strapped down to the chair beneath her. "If I wanted to kill you, I would have, trust me. The thing is, I don't want to kill you." Ava was taken aback by this statement. Surely this newbie would want to do anything possible to keep his title as the master hacker, in more ways than one. "I only did the hacking for the Warche company just to see if I could do it. The same idea applies here. I'm not going to kill you, I just wanted to see if I could do it. They say you're supposed to be one of the best. Well, I know now, that I AM the best. I see no reason to kill actually kill you, it seems so mundane to me."
Ava had never been so surprised by what she was hearing in her life.
Looking up at it from the pitch black street below, the hotel was small. An old building with only five levels, easily scaled by hand. David was good with his hands. Whether it be building some intricate sort of machinery or climbing the steepest wall, he could do it. The Warche company hired him to hack into the WWCAB's system. They were looking to find a way to shut the company's system down for at least 24 hours. If anyone could hack his way into something, it was David. After getting dishonorably discharged from the United States army for being accused of murder, he used his free time to build things. He was a mechanic, usually working on things like motors or repairing small problems with generators. There were not many places willing to hire a veteran that was thought to be involved with a murder, even if he was found innocent. David had a natural way of getting himself into trouble, but he also had a way of getting himself out of it. This was a valuable skill to the Warche company, they needed someone who was good at getting in and out of things.
The street was quiet, the only sound that could be heard for miles was the sound of sirens going off in the distance. Reaching into his left pocket, he pulled out a small gadget. To the ordinary person on the street, it appeared to be a pen, but to him it was a useful tool to help him reach his goal. He pointed the pen toward the sky, aiming for the top of the building, his hands sweating. He pressed the small button on the side of the pen, immediately releasing a metal arrow that shot up toward the sky, spidering into a grappling hook. David pulled on the cord that was extending from the pen, making sure the hook caught. Taking a deep breath, he began his ascent.
***
Ava looked up at him in confusion. "You? The best? You're pretty cocky for a newbie." She said, trying to scan the room for something to help her out of her binds.
He laughed in response. "You're pretty funny, for someone so serious. All the more reason not to kill you." He walked over to the window and propped one of his feet up on the sill.
Glancing down at her feet, she saw her opportunity, but she had to be quick. Ava was fairly thin and so being tied up by a rope as bulky as the one he had used to bind her would make for an easy escape. She only needed to by herself a couple more seconds. "Is that supposed to impress me or something?"
"No, I was just trying to give you a reason to buy yourself time to escape my binds."
Ava's face flushed. How did he already know, she thought to herself. "Why would you do a thing like that?" she asked, her palms beginning to sweat. She almost had her left foot out, then she would be free to lift out her right.
He stepped up on top of the window sill now, facing the outside world. He glanced back at her and smiled. "My name is David by the way, and I waited so I could do this" and without hesitation he jumped out the window. Ava jumped free from the binds on her feet, the chair still attached to her back. She hobbled over as quickly as she could to the window, but he was gone.
[Not sure if I should pick this story line with Ava and David back up. I haven't decided yet.]
Ava rolled over, the ground below her, cold and hard. It was amazing that she managed to get any sleep at all after last night. She groaned as she lifted her head, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. Last night had been really hard on her, but she was determined to make it out here on her own. Her father had told her to be careful and that she was welcome to come back home at any time, but she wanted to prove that she could handle herself without his guidance or financial stability. The concrete of the alleyway was very unwelcoming to anyone looking to sleep well, but it was all she had for the night. Her stomach ached, reminding her of just how hungry she had been. It had only been a week since she left the house and she had only eaten scraps from what she could find in the allies of the city to keep up her strength.
After gathering herself, Ava walked back into the busy street. The light of the sun rising blinding her as she walked. There were people rushing around left and right, pushing their way past her to get to their jobs or whatever else they had going on for the rest of their day. Her boots were pretty worn from all the running she had been doing last night. The security officer was too slow for her. She reached into the small pocket of her leather jacket and was greeted by the cold tingle of metal beneath her fingers. Thank God no one took it, she thought to herself. Ava had always been a terrific runner, even in the 3 inch, heavy, black boots she was trudging around in now. In her school years she was on the track team, top of her class. She had a natural way of being able to escape with ease, not to mention her fighting skills. Her uncle was an MMA instructor downtown, the area she knew to avoid, and taught her a thing or two about self defense.
She carefully scanned the street signs as she walked. Her destination was close to where she had slept for the night but she had to wait until morning for the shop to reopen. A smile ran across her face as she saw the sign on the building she was looking for. It read "Mr. Whittenburg's PAWN Shop" across the top in cursive lettering. Oddly fancy for as run-down as the place looked. It was a small, and dusty, hole in the wall type of place. The bricks on the outside of the building eroding away in some areas, windows boarded up, and traces of yellow police tape hanging from the top of the entrance. Ava places her hand on the brass knob of the door and turned it.
***
Midnight, her watch read. Ava was surprised that the batteries had not run out yet, it had been a while since she had changed them. The pang of hunger lingering in her stomach. The mall had closed two hours ago and she was sure that by now the security guard had already made his first rounds. She knew the security would be higher around the store she was looking for, she was prepared to fight if she needed to. It was a tight fit, but she had climbed up in the air vents just outside of a videogame store and had been waiting in there since 8pm that night. It took her all week to study the nighttime guards routine without looking suspicious, as well as learn the store's hours and their security codes to enter and take what she needed. She had already made her way to the store she was looking for earlier, now all she had to do was make her way down without triggering any of the alarms.
She gracefully descended from a very short wire she had brought with her. She was dressed in an all black body suit that covered her hair, with leather gloves on to protect her identity. Leaping from the wire, onto the ground she looked up at the sign in front of her "Tiffany & Co.". If that weren't enough to tell her she was in the right place, the baby blue boxes tied up with white ribbons were a dead giveaway as well. She moved quickly, noticing every twitch of red light in the corner of her eye. She had been in this store many times, mapping out a route for her to avoid the nearly invisible lasers. The central display was her destination. A platinum and diamond necklace that rounded the shape of the neck and left long spears of intricately cut diamonds hanging down the front of it, dripping of into pear-shaped pendants. The detail reminded her of a waterfall. The necklace was definitely beautiful, with a 18k price tag marked beneath it. She snaked her way through the last of the lasers to the necklace. There was a cubical glass case around the display that required a fingerprint scan and a dial-in code to unlock it as well as a key. Getting a copy of the key was too easy, employees were a bit careless during the day and would walk away from the counter leaving the keys behind. Ava did not even hesitate to make her move when she went in to ask about a false engagement ring sizing. Reaching into her slim pocket on the side of her bodysuit, she pulled out a piece of plastic tape. She had only seen this done in movies before and hoped it would work in this situation as well. Placing he sticky side down on the fingerprint scanner and pressed down. The scanner turned green, accepting the lifted fingerprint. One down, two more to go, she thought. She quickly punched in the 24 digit code and then went for the key. The glass door fell open with ease. It all felt a bit too easy to Ava, but she was focused on the task at hand. She now was beginning to understand why this was the task for the initiation for the job at the WWCAB company. The last thing before her ultimate escape was to lift the necklace out without triggering the alarm. Her palms sweating beneath her gloves, she gently swiped out the necklace and stuck a small rock on the sensor. Beep! Beep! Beep! The alarm sounded. Ava quickly shoved the necklace into her fanny pack and ran for the back entrance.

Day 3 (pt. 2): Hidden Talents
"How can I help you today?" the man behind the glass counter asked. Ava nearly jumped out of her skin. She was suddenly nervous, even though she had completed her task. "Oh" he said, realizing who she was, "It's just you. She's in the back waiting for you".
"Yeah, thanks" Ava said, nodding and then heading to the very back of the store. The sound of her boots hitting the floor as she passed through a small, dark doorway in the very corner of the store. There was a long, skinny hallway that made Ava feel claustrophobic every time she passed though it. The sound of voices soon filled the air, along with a pale light from the open door on the left end of the hall. She stood outside the door for a second, holding her breath. Come on girl, you got this far, she thought to herself. Her heart was beating in her head, this was technically her first job, that is, if they were even willing to give her the job in the first place.
"Well, don't just stand there, come in" a familiar voice commanded. Ava obeyed and slowly entered the room. A woman with short, silver hair and metallic silver lipstick stood next to two men dressed in all black. They were most likely other hit men Ava guessed, from their heavily equipped bodies. They both towered over the woman, standing at least 6 inches taller than her on either side. She gestured for them to leave and they exited in silence. "Well, well, well, hello there."
"Uh, hi" Ava said sheepishly, using her right index finger to curl the end of her braid.
"Please, come sit down my dear" she walked behind her desk and sat in a tall, leather chair that mad her already thin frame appear even more frail. Ava quickly sat down in one of the hard wooden chairs opposite of her. Yvonne was a fairly young woman, still older than Ava. She looked to be in her late 20's or early 30's from what Ava could see. Her face reminded Ava of vanilla icing on a cake, very cold and seamless but at the same time inviting. The baby blue Harvey Nichols suit told Ava that this woman had money, and lots of it. She tapped her long nails on the desk, "Well, do you have what I have it?" she asked, her eyes suddenly gleaming. It was pretty clear why this was the task required for this job. That suit, along with every other lavish item laying around the room was stolen, or purchased with stolen money, no doubt.
Ava quickly dove into her pocket and fished out the stolen Tiffany necklace. It looked more bulky to her now that she had a closer look than it had last night. She stared down at it for a second before handing it over to the woman sitting across from her. "It was easier than I had thought" Ava said, suddenly regretting her off-putting tone.
Yvonne's eyes widened, her hands nearly shaking with excitement. "Indeed, I see you have retrieved the item I have sent you out for. I will add it to my collection". She snatched the necklace out of Ava's hand and walked over to the full length mirror across the room. Putting the necklace on her, she stood there posing and muttering to herself.
"So, about the job-"
"So what about it? You think just because you got me one measly little item a dog could have gotten that I would just hand the job over to you?" She turned around and faced Ava square on.
Confused, Ava made a face, her right eyebrow lifting the way it always did when she wasn't sure what was happening. "Well, excuse me, but uh, you told me that this was the only requirement".
Yvonne laughed in response to this, her teeth as white and straight as tic-tacs. She walked over to Ava, smooth as a cat, her white Jimmy Choo pumps soundlessly gliding across the carpet. Ava tensed up in her seat, but remained seated. "That task, was to just see if you were able to follow orders, as well as manage to keep yourself from getting caught. The real tasks have yet to come".
***
The guard was right on her tail, surprisingly. Ava was caught off guard by this, considering he was a fairly overweight man. She dashed through the backroom of the store and through the exit, her feet silently slamming against the ground as she ran. Sirens were wailing in the background, drawing closer and closer. They were closing in on her, she knew she had to ditch her clothes somewhere. Luckily, she had already thought ahead. She looked behind her, the guard was gone, but she kept running as fast as her feet could carry her.
The alleyway behind an abandoned Chinese restaurant was her destination. The place had a living space on the second and third stories of the tall building. Ava looked above her at the fire escape, the adder had been removed years go, making the distance between her and the escape even greater. She had been able to jump pretty high, but this kind of jump was more difficult for her. She steadied her feet and took a breath, preparing herself. Her arms by her side, swinging, ready to grasp. She jumped, the weight of her body nearly swinging her into the brick wall as she held tightly to the side bar of the fire escape. Pulling herself up onto the platform, she quickly grabbed the bag she had left for herself earlier and quickly changed. The sound of sirens drawing near made her move quickly, she knew she would not have much time to escape. She removed the necklace in her fanny pack and put it into the deep pocket of her red leather jacket. The only other shoes she had brought with her from home were her black, studded boots. The red and blue lights were now visible in the distance from where Ava stood. She quickly gathered her clothes and the fanny pack into the now empty bag and dropped in below into an empty metal barrel. She grabbed the bottle of vodka she had in the bag and poured it into the barrel and then lit a match, igniting the bag and burning like a wild fire. This was her signal to leave.
She kept running through the back allies of the city until her body dropped from exhaustion.

Day 4: Christmas
The warm air kissed Ava's cheeks as she stood in the French doors of the balcony. She had been watching the sunrise for a couple of minutes now, watching over the palm trees and blue crystal water of the beach below. She glanced behind her to look at the lavish breakfast layout that had remained untouched for the morning. There were short vases of evenly cut pink roses sitting on top of a white tablecloth covered in lace. Pink roses were her favorite. The breakfast consisted of large platters of beautifully cut fresh fruits, mimosas, steaming sausages, sizzling eggs and fluffy buttermilk pancakes. A pretty fulfilling breakfast compared to what Ava was used to back home. It was four days until Christmas and she knew it would be time for her to go home soon, but the scenery here was something she wanted to take in as much as she could before she had to return home. The familiar feeling of arms being wrapped around her waist surprised her slightly, causing her to jump.
He let out a groan before he spoke sleepily. "Did I scare you, my love?" he said with a laugh.
Ava placed her arms on top of his, inviting him to stay in the embrace. "You seem to be the only person who can manage that".
"Well, they don't call me good for nothing", he buried his face in the crook of her neck, showering her in kisses.
She turned around to face him, leading his face up to hers to kiss him passionately on the lips. "I wish we could stay here for a bit longer" she said with a sigh, "at least through the holiday".
His eyes sparkled the way they did right before he would say something to make her feel better. "You know we can't. I have my work and you how yours, plus, we are from two different worlds." he paused. "It would be a nice thought though. You and I here, on a romantic getaway for Christmas. Sounds awfully cliché, don't you think?" He smirked.
"Yeah, I guess so" Ava laughed.
"If you could ask Santa for one thing only and no matter what it was it would come true, what would it be?"
Ava raised her eyebrow. He would always ask her strange questions like this, but Santa Claus was for children, or at least that's what she thought. She thought about the question for a while. "If I could wish for anything, it would be snow".
"Snow? Here? Why would you come to a paradise like this and wish for snow?"
"Because, snow would keep us here. No flights would be going out, so that means we could stay here together for a bit longer. So yes, snow." She took in a long, deep breath, breathing in the warm, salty air. "I'd even settle for rain if it meant we could spend another day together".
He laughed. "You're silly Ava, but you're also a dreamer. I like that about you". He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her up, cradling her body as he walked over to the bed. The white, sheer drapes of the canopy floating around them as the breeze danced inside the hotel room. Lying her down gracefully as he stared into her eyes.
Whenever he would stare at her like this, it would make her nervous. He seemed to be the only person that could get more than two emotions out of her at once. "What is it?" she asked, noticing that he was still looking at her face.
"Nothing" he said. "You're beautiful" he smiled slightly and leaned down to kiss her. "I love you, Ava".
"I love you too, David".
(This link below is a song that inspired this post. I've been listening to it a lot lately. This post is kinda sappy, but oh well.)
The crickets outside chirped noisily as the last bit of daylight disappeared from sight. It had been a fulfilling day of work on the farm and now it was time to relax. There was a man sitting in an old, dusty recliner on the front porch. The rough calluses on his hands were stained a permanent dark brown from his daily work. He held a beer in one hand and a photo of a young girl in the other. The man missed his daughter. She had left home nine months ago, the same amount of time since he'd last seen her face. He had mulled over calling her sometime tonight before he tucked himself in for the night, but he knew how busy she was ever since she got that new library job in the city. All things considered, he took another swig of his beer, polishing off the rest of its contents. The little girl in the picture beamed, with her crooked teeth, wildly curly hair, and dirt-stained overalls as she held up a chicken in her arms. The back of the photo read "Ava's first day of school".
Hanson stood up and put the photo in his back pocket and walked inside. The aroma of the dinner he had made for himself still lingered in the air. Roasted beef tenderloin with potatoes and carrots. That was just the kind of meal Ava would have ran home to enjoy, he thought. He had set aide a plate for his younger brother Dan whenever he decided to come back home. Dan moved in with his older brother after Hason and his wife divorced when Ava was only two years old. Diane decided that she no longer wanted a husband or a daughter and left without a trace. Dan occasionally helped out around the farm when he wasn't busy teaching MMA classes to children at a place called Fast Max downtown. The clock above the fireplace read 9:38. He'll be home soon from work, Hanson thought. Often times he'd like to read something while waiting for his brother's arrival and then getting ready for bed. Tonight was no different. He sat down in the rocking chair across from the couch and began reading his copy of "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
There was a sound of rustling and movement from somewhere outside. It was more than likely an animal that had wandered off from the small bit of forrest behind the house. Hason, went into the back closet next to the restroom and grabbed his rifle.
There was nothing but darkness as Hanson circled around the house to the back porch. The pale yellow light on the porch only gave him enough light to see what was directly in front of him. There was more rustling coming from the direction of the trees. He aimed his gun, cocked and loaded, ready to shoot. The sound of a gun going off rang into the distance. Hanson fell back, catching himself on the handle of the back door. Suddenly there was a sharp pain in his left shoulder, closer to the crook of his neck. Another fire rang into the distance. The same pain was now in his right shoulder, same place. Scarlet liquid poured from the open wounds, staining his shirt and leaving a pool of blood beneath him. The world was becoming more and more dim as he tried to not lose consciousness. His back was completely against the door now, he slid down it to help him sit. Movement of shadows and light caught his eye. The lights from his brother's truck came into view, the world began to spin and then, darkness.

Day 5: Heart (pt. 2)
The sun shined brightly through the tiny window of the cramped, wooden shack. Packages of gummy candies and empty beer cans were scattered across the ground, attracting small black ants to the scene. David rubbed his eyes in an attempt to stay awake. It had nearly been 48 hours since he had last slept. The Warche company's last assignment had gotten him into some deep trouble with the authorities and he needed to lay low for a while.
(I will continue later.)
