So, for the OC I was wanting to make, He has a lightning-based Shikai. Anyways what I wanted to ask is Does a soul reaper have to be a seated officer in order to have a Shikai? Or can my character have a shikai without being a seated officer? See what I was planning on doing was building my character up just as he has obtained his shikai, however since its only been 3 months since he became a soul reaper, he doesn't have a seated position. Is it okay for him to have his Shikai? At best he would be starting with 4 shikai skills, if that helps you.

You don't need to be seated to have shikai. Any shinigami can start with it at creation. Also just as a side note, four techniques is actually the maximum for a shikai, so if you start with four your shikai will be considered complete and you won't be able to change it outside of certain special circumstances in character.
So if you want the character to be more in line with just having achieved shikai and you want its power to change through character development, you may want to limit yourself to 2-3 techniques. Just a suggestion.
