”CALL ME CROW. I’VE LONG SINCE ABANDONED MY OLD NAME.”
bird black/crow/kurotenshi (hates this one)/combat unit || polygender [he/she/they/it/etc.] || aromantic/asexual || 15 years (appearance) || 100 years (real age)
Crow is not a kind person, er, Mod Soul. He’s cold, merciless and downright rude. He couldn’t care less if you were lying on the ground, bleeding out. In fact, he’d probably kick you to the side if you were in his way. As such, Crow clearly has a bit of a loner personality. He trusts no one but himself. He does, however, grow a bit softer in the presence of pacifists and children, and he will not attack someone who is defenseless or lacks the will to fight. He claims it is a part of his “code of honor”, though it’s really because he believes that anyone who will not or cannot fight does not belong on the battlefield.
Generally, Crow will not even bat an eye in your direction if you happen to pass by him, no matter who you are. He will not attack first, unless you happen to be a Hollow. Despite hating the shinigami for creating him and then attempting to destroy him, Crow will carry on the mission he was made for: eliminating any Hollows that are nearby. Furthermore, Crow has no sense of humor and is always deathly serious, something seems to be a remnant from when he had no actual sentience. As a result, he often comes off as dry and dull, though he couldn’t care less about it. Crow also has a bit of a short temper and often snaps at others. He can be rather bitter as well, something that makes him complain quite a bit. He will snarl at anyone who points this out and decide to ignore them, though if they insult or mock him for it, he will throw some insults over his shoulder back. Surprisingly, the only time he ever seems calm and peaceful is when he stops to pet an animal. Animals seem to bring out a calmness that was previously absent in Crow, and he is always quiet as he caters to them. Animals, in turn, seem almost attracted to him and are typically also calm in his presence.
HISTORY
I. Birth
Crow was originally created for the reason most Mod Souls were made: to replace shinigami in the fight against Hollows. As such, he was modified for the sole purpose of combat. Most shinigami are incapable of flight, something that can be used against them in a battle against a Hollow. So, Crow’s engineering was focused on the ability of flight as well as combat, thus his code-name having been "Kurotenshi" ["Black Angel"]. When he was first “born”, Crow lacked any sense of self, something that the researchers referred to as a “defect”. Even so, because Crow’s ability to fly was still usable, they decided against scrapping him and instead worked on teaching him the art of combat. Yet, one of the researchers seemed to pity him, as she always spoke to him as though he was a regular person. She wasn’t one of the leading researchers and was tasked with the minor work, so whenever she had free time (which was quite often), she spoke to Crow, telling him different stories and the like. And with each conversation, bit by bit, Crow started to show signs of having developed a personality. And, as the duo kept talking and spending time together, they grew closer, to the point where Crow felt that she was what people called a “friend”.
But what he didn’t know was that that researcher had been playing him the entire time.
Her true assignment was to grow close to Crow to ensure that he would work for them in eliminating Hollows.
Unfortunately, Crow quickly found out after overhearing other researchers talk when they thought he was asleep in his vessel. They were muttering to themselves, complaining that they were jealous of the researcher for having such a simple task. Crow felt an intense rage at this, but did not doubt his friend. No, these researchers had to be at fault. Maybe they were actually Hollows in disguise trying to turn him against the researchers and shinigami?
With that thought, Crow activated his Soul Release and struck them down. Of course, the other researchers found out and quickly restrained him, forcing him back into his Pill Form before placing it in quarantine. They thought he had “malfunctioned” and wondered if they should “shut him down”.
II. Fugitive
Then came the fateful day that the Soul Society ordered for the elimination of all Mod Souls.
Crow was still in quarantine at the time, wondering what was happening and whether he had made a mistake. Then in came his friend, looking rather worried. She took him out of quarantine and placed him back in his vessel, before telling him he needed to run. Crow didn’t understand. Why did he need to run? Had he made a mistake? But still, she was his friend, so he supposed he should listen. So, off he went, dashing down the halls, but only to find the doors blocked by a crowd of researchers. They all had weapons in their hands and muttered about how Soul Society’s laws were absolute. Crow didn’t understand then, either.
But when they began to swing at him, it clicked.
Those researchers he had killed were probably telling the truth. His “friend” had told him to run so he would fall into this trap. But what didn’t make sense was why.
They had created him, and that researcher was his friend.
Why were they betraying him like this?
And, feeling that immense rage once more, Crow lashed out, activating his Soul Release to murder the entirety of the research facility. They had all betrayed him...! They were going to kill him...! Why should he leave them be?
Eventually, the only one left was his “friend”. She had cowered before him, kneeling on the ground as if groveling. He had picked her up by the throat and slammed her repeatedly into a wall, hoping to maximize her pain for betraying him this way. But never once did she beg for mercy or for him to spare her life.
No, instead, she kept repeating that she was sorry.
“I never wanted this,” were her last words.
Crow didn’t understand for the third time in a while. When she died, he felt his vessel leak from his eyes. Were these those so-called ‘tears’? But, why were they falling? He wasn’t in any pain.
After he left the facility, Crow was a fugitive on the run. He left behind his code-name, as it only brought about feelings of rage, betrayal and hatred. But, as if in homage to the researcher who may or may not have truly been his friend, he decided to use the name she had given his vessel.
Name: Ninjutsu [Hand to Hand Style] Class: Hand to Hand Tier: --- Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: Ninjutsu, in a literal translation, is the art (or ability) of ninja. Ninjutsu is an incredibly uncommon martial arts, learning it would be hard unless you knew somebody who had the art passed down from a previous dynasty. But you never know.
Ninjutsu in it's main form is to assassinate people, simple as that. It's attacks are focused around hit-and-run, remaining silent, and killing in one shot. No exceptions have been since made, and those who could not do this as a Ninja often times got executed for being terrible at what they did.
While the details are foggy, the most prominent of Ninjutsu styles or stances is a simple, non-formed style which focuses on keeping the weight on the left leg to allow for pivoting attacks. Outside of that, Ninjutsu is only detailed on how much they included within scrolls from ancient times.
Name: Chinmoku [Silence] Class: Hand to Hand Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: Self Description: Those who take up the mantle of a Ninja are taught to be completely silent, to make no noise, to leave nothing behind. Chinmoku is the spiritual equivalent, for while a ninja could be quiet, absolute silence is only achieved through one's spiritual energy masking all sounds from the user outside of abilities. Chinmoku, while being a passive, is instantly broken upon using an ability that causes sound (i.e: flame, shikai, etc) or visual antics, and requires two turns for the spiritual energy to reform and create the silence again.
Name: Shakou Kikku [Blackout Kick] Class: Hand-to-Hand Tier: II Type: Offensive Range: Self Description: A technique that combines the practices of not only stealth but silent retreat. If discovered, the user is able to deliver a kick that produces a flash of light upon contact, allowing the user to retreat without being spotted. This would leave the opponent in a daze, blurred vision for a post and left to wonder about what just happened. A ninja can appear and disappear in a flash.

REIATSU FEATURES
Crow’s reiatsu is solid black with streaks of crimson and is very thick. It wraps around him like a cloak that seems to trail along the ground. The reiatsu gives off the scent of blood and has the texture of silk.

SOUL RELEASE
SOUL RELEASE ACTIVATION
When released, Kurotsuru first forms over Crow's skin, then proceeds to cover every inch of his body, including his clothes. Wings sprout from his back, made of the same material as the rest of his suit. They are capable of flight.
Crow's Soul Release may seem to be a suit that forms upon release, but it is actually a fusion of black tendrils/threads that sprout from his back, as seen here. The tendrils can be manipulated in many ways and can even be reshaped. Crow has control over these tendrils, but must keep practicing moving them and utilizing them, or he may "forget" how to move them. Over time, the tendrils will also grow thicker (something Crow refers to as gaining more “wingmass”), allowing for a thicker "suit". Crow can also form a helmet over his head, like so or simply cover his mouth and nose by molding the tendrils into a face mask-like way.
Name: Tendril Manipulation Class: Soul Release Tier: II Type: Passive Range: Self Description: Crow can reshape the tendrils of his powers to whatever shape he likes, but at his current stage, he can only reshape them into two things or one thing with an added attribute (spiked, slippery, etc.) at a time (ex: suit + sword, spiked suit, etc.).
Name: Featherstorm Class: Soul Release Tier: I Type: Offensive/Defensive Range: Short-Long (4 m to 100 m) Description: By furling his wings around his body and extending the feathers, Crow can spin and shoot the feathers out. When shot, the feathers travel at Bala-speeds and are razor-sharp. However, this is more of a last resort, as it causes Crow to lose some "wingmass", meaning there is less of his suit to work with now (it grows thinner as a result of losing the feathers). Still, while shooting the feathers, none can approach him, lest they risk being cut up by the many feathers being shot. Up to 50 feathers can be shot at a time, and the feathers are about 36 cm long.
