The sun was high in the sky, a solid blue to the horizon without a cloud to mar the sunny day. Gaen was sitting in the grass next to a large maple tree, and while he would usually be quite enjoying such a relaxing afternoon, he seemed to be brooding. His face wore a concerned, almost frustrated look, and he kept glancing toward the tree at his right, or more accurately, at the leafy green tangle of vines that made up his shikai. His right arm was outstretched with the palm pressed against the tree, slight swells visible in the vines happening every now and again if one looked closely.
I’m still not sure about this… Gaen voiced, seeming to speak to his right arm, concern clear in his voice.
A little f*cking late to reconsider now! Came his avatar’s indignant reply, though Gaen had to agree he had come pretty far on a project he wasn’t particularly keen on seeing through. This had all been borne of Holla’s disturbingly enthusiastic interest in the martial art called ‘Krav Maga’ which Gaen personally found to be a very frightening martial form. Holla had made Gaen read books on it, watch training videos, even spend some of his off time sitting in on Krav Maga training sessions in the human world. She wanted to practice to make sure she had the forms and moves she had been copying down correctly, and had managed to talk Gaen into this particular exercise. He had even acquired a special permission permit to activate his shikai in the training grounds of Seireitei so that his avatar could come into the real world in her own limited way. One of Gaen’s shikai abilities allowed for Holla to assume control over his body, though it did require a bit of prep time which was what Gaen was doing with his hand on a tree. Besides, we already put out the fliers, somebody should be by any minute now for me to break over my knee! She said excitedly, referencing the fliers Gaen had put up on division notice boards across Seireitei, though he had to admit he would’ve preferred to dump the whole stack of papers into a recycle bin. The flyers had read:
WANTED: STUPID MEAT SUIT FOR ME TO BEAT THE TAR OUT OF
Fourth divisioner in need of sparring partner, I need to practice breaking bones like toothpicks.
If you aren’t a wimpy @$$ little nut-sack, put your big girl pants on and come to Training Ground 3, the one near the woods.
Just to clarify, I fully intend to break your bones; cry-babies need not apply.
Technically speaking I am medical personnel, so, ya, medical personnel will be standing by to un-break you.
Gaen had felt absolutely mortified typing that flier up, and had actually talked Holla out of a full other paragraph in which she felt the need to detail which bones she intended to break, and where they could deposit the pieces. He was concerned that some angry 11th divisioner would come here and unceremoniously murder him for the insulting language of the flier. Holla seemed tickled by the idea though.
Think of it as a chance to practice your healing stuff. She mused cheerfully as Gaen sighed, resigning himself to what he was certain to be an unpleasant experience for everybody involved.

Raiden glanced at the flyer in his hand, chuckling still. This was the kind of joke that sat well with him. Properly thought out, well executed and no shame. Pretty humorous if you asked him. With a shake of his head, he crumpled the piece of paper and pushed it into his coat. And without a second thought, he was off, headed for the sparring field. Training ground three to be exact. It didn't take much time at all for him to reach it. And with a soft thud and a loud clunk of armour, the one on his left arm, Raiden touched down on the ground, looking around before his eyes befell Gaen.
"Yo," he remarked dryly, before fishing the crumped paper out. "This yours, li'l bud?" He un-crumpled it and held it up for Gaen to inspect. By no means was Li'l bud meant condescending. Gaen was smaller than him, that didn't mean he was weaker. Any posture and weight formed a threat in a fight. "Raiden Saitou, seventh squad's substitute," he introduced himself. The armoured hand that held up the paper moving over his chest to present a rather ceremonious, maybe even overreacted, bow. What Gaen would notice was that the man's face was scarred, missing a left eye in a scar that ran downwards to his cheekbone, another cut across his other cheek. "You wanted to beat the absolute fuck outta me?"
Hey, do you mind if we forgo cooldowns and time limits in this thread? Holla can only hold the Green man ability active for 5 posts, and there’s a large cooldown for it too. I’d prefer not having to stop every 5 posts to let her wind down and back up again.
Gaen heaved himself up from where he had been sitting, his arm having ‘eaten’ enough bio-mass to activate the Green-man ability. Gaen was almost glad he wouldn’t be around for the whole fighting event that Holla was so anxiously awaiting, as the Green-man knocks him unconscious right from go. Still, he was worried what Holla could get up to without direct supervision; he hoped that she didn’t do too much damage to whoever ended up coming around.
Whoever show’s up knows what they’re get’n into more or less. Now stop whimpering about my business and take your shirt off. Holla grumbled as Gaen walked over to the dirt patch that constituted the ‘sparring arena’ they were about to use. He pulled off the rest of his upper robes as he went, his right side already removed as Holla had a nasty habit of eating his clothes when she was released. He tossed the robes and empty scabbard to the side, noting the extra… heft to his arm after having absorbed so much material from the forest around him.
Just… promise you won’t go too far with this. Gaen asked, preparing himself for the inevitably aggressive reply from his avatar. Surprisingly, the tone that came from Holla was much more subdued.
Gaen, I know I talk a big game here, but I’m just trying to learn way to protect you if push comes to shove and you need me to fight. I’m not trying to do this because I like hurting people or to infringe on you pacifist lifestyle. After all this is done, whoever comes along may need your medical attention, but I’m hoping they’ll be laughing about it and we part ways as unlikely friends. With those words Gaen had to admit he was feeling a lot more at ease with the whole situation. He often forgot that Holla generally had his best interest at heart, her rather strong and crass personality generally taking centre stage. He decided not to protest the matter further and just wait in silence for the eventual challenger to come by.
Gaen had been expecting the person to walk to the training field as he had, keeping his eye on the trail that led up to where he stood. Therefore, when Raiden appeared with a thunk and clanking of heavy armour, Gaen jumped and gave a little squeak of surprise. The man was… intimidating to say the least as he fished out the little flier. Gaen gave a curt nod as Raiden mentioned the planned events of the afternoon.
Uh, oh, um, I, uh, I d-didn’t, that is, I don’t want – Gaen stammered, trying to piece words together though his brain was frantically trying to decide on fight or flight.
Oh for the love of – You’re just embarrassing yourself, move over, I’m coming out. His avatar said with a note of finality as Gaen felt his arm squirm and start to grow over his body. The feeling was very uncomfortable, bordering on painful as the vines in his blood stream widened, roots took hold of his bones across his body and his muscle was invaded by greenery. He doubled over and fell to his knees as his arm seemed to grow over the majority of his body, the vines wrapping and twisting to outline the muscle groups they covered and grew through. The whole process took less than a minute, and the now green clad figure rose from the kneeling position as the last of his left hand was enveloped by plant life. Softly green glowing eyes now peered at Raiden, a distinctly angered looking face was worn on the mouthless visage.
That kid can be really annoying sometimes. Holla said, though instead of her usually soft voice, or even Gaen’s voice, a deep gravely tone wrung the words into existence. She pressed her hand to her neck and felt the bones crack as she stretched the body of her shinigami. I’m Holla, the wimpy kid is Gaen, my shinigami. I’m the one here to do the tussling. So ya, I can’t keep this form up forever so I’m gonna give you the short and sweet of this. I need to practice fighting so I can protect short and whiny here. I’ve picked up some moves Ima try on you. You look tough, so I’m not going to bother holding back or nothin’ like that. She said, bringing her fists up in a basic guard before darting forward quickly, a divot cracking in the ground from where she kicked off. She aimed to grab hold of his robes with her right hand before raising her left leg to go in for a low knee into his hip joint. Ideally, this move with enough strength behind it could dislocate a leg, but at the moment she was just trying to hit the nerve cluster that would stagger the large scarred man.
Name: Low Knee Class: Hakuda Tier: V Type: Offensive Range: Close Description: This is a strike with the knee, aiming below the belt into the hip, thigh or groin. Between the leverage, bolstering rietsu and hardness of the knee, this attack is a staple of Krav practitioners.
Name: Green Man Class: Zan Spirit Type: Suplimentary Range: Self Tier: IV Duration: 5 Posts Description: Before this technique can be used at all, Holla must absorb 5 litres of plant material, though she can do so over several posts if need be so long as she doesn’t lose any material along the way. Holla uses the extra material to grow over Gaen entirely, no longer being secluded to his arm alone. She covers every inch of his body like a second skin, but she isn’t being worn like a suit. The roots and vines that have traversed his body are just growing out to the surface, meaning this is literally a second skin of vines and greenery as much a part of his body as his bones. The sensation of this ability coming into effect is… uncomfortable so long as Holla takes her time; wrapping Gaen up over the course of a post during which time his strength and speed suffer a x2 debuff. She can also do this ‘instantly’ but it is extremely painful for Gaen, causing no debuff, but he also can’t focus on any abilities for 1 post while he recovers. In the end, his body is covered in vines, bark and greenery with similar functionality to the Green Hand ability save he can’t change the underlying shape of his body. Every muscle group is detailed in thick, wound vines or course bark, grass and thorns poking out where his hair or nails would normally be. His eyes glow a soft green in this form and he looks a little bulkier than his normal body.
While Green Man is active Gaen has a 3x boost to his strength or speed as the vines and roots pull his bones in concert with his muscles and tendons. Switching between the two takes 1 post, and the boost only lasts 2 posts unless switch over. Also, the green breath ability is usable on Gaen alone, and cannot be directed outward, meaning he is no long able to heal others. The vines/bark provide a tier III defensive layer over Gaen that regenerates (the armour only) so long as he can access plant matter around him. The damage, recovery time and effective defense during recovery is described below:
Tier IV damage - 1 post recovery, effectively Tier II protection
Tier V damage - 2 post recovery, effectively Tier I protection
Tier VI damage - 3 post recovery, offers no protection
Tier VII damage - 4 post recovery, offers no protection
The Green Man armour cannot be totally destroyed, regenerating even if every piece had been blown off Gaen's body because a fair portion of the material is under his skin. All other Green Man abilities function normally.
Lastly, Gaen isn’t really the one in the drivers’ seat when Green Man is active, functionally going unconscious while Holla takes charge. Holla is a lot more aggressive than Gaen, and she doesn’t know his fighting techs, or kido outside of his healing arts. She can use any fighting techs that she knows personally however. Out of respect for Gaen, she also refuses to kill anybody.
At the end of the technique, Gaen comes back into consciousness and the Green Man skin can be easily removed or re-absorbed by Holla. Gaen is hobbled for a post though, suffering a 2x debuff to his strength and speed, though fully capable of using his other techniques
He smirked, making a dismissive gesture with the armoured hand. "Don't worry," he answered. "I'm big 'n cuddly, don't mind the scars," hoping it'd be any reassurance of Gaen. It was more than obvious the boy was at least spooked by his presence. Somewhere, he thought the boy should be considered lucky. There are far more unsavoury individuals about as powerful as Raiden. They wouldn't be so 'cuddly' as he was. The smirk was replaced momentarily by a warm smile, before he loosened the belt around his waist. Hebikiba's tip sliding into the ground, making it hiss, some toxins slowly rising from the poisenous zanpakutou as grass slowly decayed around it.
Raiden watched the change with an eyebrow perched above the permamently shut eye, folding his arms. Intruiging to say the least. And then it spoke, with a deep and gritty voice that would lead one to believe it regurgitated gravel for breakfast. "Raiden, as I priorly stated," he took a deep breath, at least humouring Holla by dropping into his traditional jiu jitsu stance. The warmth normally in his eye making place for a cold and determined outlook. The green man burst forward into movement. His robes were grabbed and a knee moved up to slam into his hip.
His elbow moved down to catch the smack of the knee harmlessly, the armoured hand snaking around to grab Holla's wrist. He took a step back, pulling the zanpakutou spirit with, turning sideways slightly to sweep under his feet. And if succesful, still holding his wrist, smack him down into the ground rather harshly.
{Techniques}Name: Hakai-tekina kyūryū (Destructive torrent) Class: Offensive armor melee item Tier: V Range: Personal Description: The armor and glove being placed around Raiden's left arm only. The gauntlet is attached to the armor. Hakai-tekina kyūryū channels part of the user's reiatsu into the glove, and gives a punch with it one deadly edge. The armor mostly was made to protect the used from the strain it puts, and it does so succesfully, the glove deactivating after a set amount to not put too much strain on the user. The armor able to recieve a lot of blows sucessfully, without losing substantial agility is always an advantage. This item persists through bankai. The glove can block physical strikes from tier V -Glove around Raiden's left hand- -Armor around Raiden's left arm/thorax- Ability: Changes the first 5 punches that connect into tier V hits., blocks up to tier V physical hits. Cooldown/Drawback: 2 posts cooldown after 5 tier V hits connect. Being on cooldown, however, doesn't mean Raiden can't punch you with it, the cooldown does also not affect the armor rating.
Name: Frost queen's claim Class: Offensive melee item Tier: V Range: Personal Description: As the arrancar, Fryst Dronning tore off Raiden's arm, she soon after felt regret, and re-gifted his arm through ice and reiryoku. Hebikiba immediatly took sovereignity of the reiryoku in the gifted arm, and, so, giving it special properties. Ability: The skin around the blade shreds open and reveals the ice, wich reforms into a poisenous ice-blade. This blade is bankai-tier and deals tier V strikes. This blade is channeled through with Raiden's reiatsu and thus, works with the poison sting and Caustic poison passive. This can only happen once per thread, when the arm is released and destroyed, it regenerates in five posts. When it is sealed and destroyed, it regenerates withing two posts. Cooldown/Drawback: The arm has shikai durability in its sealed state. This item persists through, is usable and can be activated during bankai.
Name: Ju-jitsu. Class: Hand to hand Type: Martial Arts Style. Range: Self. Tier: I Description: Ju-jitsu is a purely defensive martial art form that revolves around the control of the target in question in a manner of ways. From locking to throwing, Ju-jitsu covers the entirety of locking down an opponent with ones body. Of course, Ju-jitsu isn't completely forced to learn only locks, they are taught simple frontal abilities (a jab, kick, a few other basic martial-art techniques) but they are not often utilized, instead often used outside of tournaments.
Ju-jitsu, like Taekwondo, is an incredibly sport-filled martial art. Finding a dojo for Ju-jitsu is incredibly easy, ontop of the factor that it's common for tournaments of any kind, but it isn't as popular as Taekwondo. Even so, it's still popular in it's own right, and is shown on live broadcasts often.
Training Ju-jitsu more often then not requires a partner or something that is in humanoid form, as the grapples and locks are easily ignored if someone has not learned how to correctly hold someone. The style -- or stance -- for Ju-jitsu is incredibly heavy, working in a similar way to Sumo but on a sense that you have to deflect them, rather then push power back at them.
Name: Poison sting Class: Shikai Ability Type: Passive Range: Close Tier: I Description: With the overwhelming power perk, the length of Hebikiba can run up to 2.5 meters, cutting with pure reiatsu, the cuts of the blade leaves scorches, no wounds. Because of it's poisenous nature, the cuts of the blade inflicting extra pain due to the poison, the heavy burning pain lasts for two posts, leaving acid burns and eventually scars.
Name: Immunity Class: Shikai Ability Type: Passive/augmentive Range: Personal Tier: II-IV Description: The zanpakutou makes Raiden immume to his own posion and acid. Raiden is immume to any tier II poison and acid based attacks, if activated, up to tier IV poison and acid based attacks can be negated for up to 5 posts, this has a 10 post cooldown. After 5 posts of activation, Raiden still has his passive immume to tier II and his own.
Holla noted the dull thud of her knee striking against the mans’ plate covered arm, disappointed that her strike hadn’t landed, but pleased that his evidently rough riding exterior wasn’t just for show. She needed somebody who knew what they were doing, and she had clearly received that in spades. She could feel her right wrist being grabbed and pulled, which didn’t bother her overly, all things being equal that particular appendage was probably the worst one for Raiden to grab. Holla let the vine like tendons wrapping the wooden bones loosen, dissolving pieces of the wrist quickly and easily. This allowed for her to dislocate her right hand and push it forward and grip tightly to Raiden’s arm as her fingers literally wrapped around his armour like green ropes. She would have been flat out of luck if he had grabbed her left wrist, which had actual bones and flesh, which she had a harder time moving around reasonably.
Substitute shinigami eh? I’ve heard of ‘em, part timers, pretty few and far between. She said in the gravelly voice she had to admit she quite liked, speaking as she hopped over the leg sweep and the armoured hand came down to throw her to the ground. How do you even get a job like that? Put in a resume at a job fair? She asked as she tucked in close, getting chest to chest with the man as she brought her free elbow up to strike him in the side of the head. She had always wondered why Gaen insisted in talking during fights, but she had to admit that while martial training was definitely the focus of her afternoon, having somebody OTHER than Gaen to talk to was very refreshing. A part of her hoped that he managed to deflect this blow as well so his brain wouldn’t be too shaken up from the smack to the temple so he could converse back.
Name: High Elbow Class: Hakuda Tier: IV Type: Supplementary Duration: 3 Posts Range: Close Description: This is a strike with the elbow, aiming above the belt into the collar bone, neck or head. The strike is meant to be quicker than it is strong, aiming to disorient or shock the opponent. This attack causes a 2x debuff to strength as the opponent is too disoriented to put full force into their blows
The vines moving up to his arm surprised him, though by no means did he stagger or lose control even once. "Not really part time," he answered, ducking his head under the elbow Holla threw his ways, arms moving around the waist and picking him up, before Raiden picked up the rather light shinigami and pushed back in a supplex, aiming to smack Holla's head against the floor, before releasing him and rolling forward.
Before getting back in position. "You get taken in by a crazy scientist, either accept it or die," he added with a soft smirk. "Let's give this a try." He raised one hand, pushing the other down in a rather odd stance, energy crackling around his wrists. The skin at his wrist visibly cracking and splitting, revealing crimson energy pooling in those cracks. As if it was molten magma. Smoke slowly rising up from it and heat distorting the air around. "Been thinking on this," he explained. But now it was time to put this to the test. See whether he could put the required concentration in in a fight.
He stepped forward again, the smoke hissing around his fists as he stepped forward with a surprisingly quick jab for Holla's stomach, the energy behind it enough to cause quite the amount of damage.
{Practicing Techs}Name: 手のひらを砕く Tenohira o kudaku (Shattering palm) Class: Fighting style Tier: N/A Type: Supplementary Range: Personal Description: A fighting style developed for swift and brutal strikes, enhancing damage with bouts of energy and reiryoku. Shattering palm is often accompanied with high stance, one hand pointed down and the other raised, both in defense and for a swift offense. When shattering palm techniques are utilized, the sheer kinetic energy alone is capable of blowing away skyscrapers.

It allows the user to wrap their hands in tier III energy for 2 posts, before it needs refreshing. Any punches from this activated technique explodes on impact and deals tier III damage and can lead to staggers and knockback. The skin cracks and starts secreting smoke visibly upon activation.

Holla didn’t feel the satisfying smack of her elbow against skull, which was pretty surprising considering their close quarters. They were practically hugging, but this large fellow seem spectacularly quick and flexible to bob and weave around her attacks. She felt him grip around her waist and heave her up, her feet leaving the ground and the sky above her spinning as she was toppled overhead. It was partially the quickened reflexes of her green body, and frantic flailing that managed to bring her arms up in time to catch herself. She let the muscle memory in Gaen’s body carry her back to her feet; the one armed medic being strangely accustomed to fighting from a handstand of some kind or another. She tumbled over and landed in a low crouch as she watched her opponent roll forward and get to his feet, facing her with a good couple meters between them. He mentioned a ‘mad scientist’ had dragged him into this line of work, and Holla let out a low growl.
Ugh, twelfth division. Never met one I liked, all too busy ‘playing god’ to wonder, ‘hey, is it worth it to poison a city block just so I can fill out my spread sheet?’ She grumbled as Raiden moved into his odd martial form. She pondered briefly rushing in and attacking while he ‘charged up’ whatever attack he was aiming to fire off, but decided not to. In a real fight, if this was life or death, she would have stabbed him in the neck by now, but this was a spar and as much a chance for her to learn her limits as for Raiden to stretch and flex. Instead, she stood up, planted her feet and waited for him to charge. Planting her feet was a fairly literal term as well, as roots quickly invaded the ground beneath her soles, making her as immovable as possible. The attack came in quickly, but Holla instinctively noted the cracked and steaming skin on the man’s arm. Self harming technique, his arm is probably going to be shaken up after this.[/i] She thought as the fist came in and crashed squarely into her stomach. Her feet lifted from the ground, tearing chunks of earth with them as the force of the blow pulled her roots from the ground. She didn’t go flying off however, quickly grabbing onto the offered arm with her left hand, suspended in air by Riadens’ fist.
Huh, so that’s what pain feels like… She mumbled to herself, bringing her right hand down to chop at Raidens’ wrist, aiming to hit between the scaphoid and trapezium bones. If done with enough force, his wrist would be functionally shattered.
Name: Wrist Break Class: Hakuda Tier: IV Type: Offensive Range: Close Description: This is a very literal technique. When the opponent offers their hand, be it in a punch, block or some other extension of the hand, the user locks the arm and with a quick palm strike, shatters the wrist of the opponent. The wrist has to be healed before the hand can be used again, via some healing technique or through HSR.[\spoiler]

"Eh. They created me, so," he said with a soft snark of indifference to his voice. "They aren't all bad," he retorted, but instead just went on with his moveset, surging forward and dealing that devestating blow that he was training to level skyscrapers with. Air contorting due to the sole heat his arms generated as a byproduct of the massives amount of energy expended. Small plumes of smoke escaping the cracks in his skin. It scented of blood, blood immediately vapourized by the heat and energy. It was a side effect, one he had to train on to remove.
Raiden's eyebrows twitched momentarily as he lifted Holla up on his fist. A crackle followed as he spun on his heels, his skin sheening momentarily and the cracks gone. Instead, sparks of electrical energy moved around them. Some red stains on his arms due to the previous techniques, but noting too painful.
Raiden aimed to smack his palm down in the back of Holla's neck. If hit, it'd send the zanpakutou spirit facedown in the dirt with a collusi's might. And the lightning would jolt and spark through his body, leading to some very uncomfortable feelings in various muscles. So was the second part of his fighting stance, one was primal destruction. The other was nothing short of a saint's level of control and patience.
Yet, whether it was a hit or miss, Raiden retreated again, leaving Holla room to breathe. Though the techniques he used were also more than tiring. Beads of sweat forming on his forehead. A soft pant to his breath. Nails cracked and several cuts on his arms from the first stance of shattering palm.
Description: A fighting style developed for swift and brutal strikes, enhancing damage with bouts of energy and reiryoku. Shattering palm is often accompanied with high stance, one hand pointed down and the other raised, both in defense and for a swift offense. Name: 手のひらを砕く Tenohira o kudaku (Shattering palm): 制御の側面 Seigyo no sokumen (Aspect of control)
Class: H2H
Tier: III
Type: Supplementary
Range: Personal
Description: Aspect of control is the balanced counterpart. The process is the same, though the user's body crackles with kinetic energy rather than being limited to punches. Any physical hand to hand strike carries a paralysis effect with, carrying the potency of tier III. This paralysis effect is instant and has no duration, but serves as an interrupting and concentration breaking ability.
Bugger doesn’t sit still long… She thought to herself as Raiden wheeled away and her attempt at breaking his wrist met with no notable contact. It could be a testament to her limited experience in actual combat that she had yet to land a successful blow, she had always just watched during the rare time that Gaen actually got into a fight. If she thought she could do better than her shinigami at those instances, she was starting to reconsider her shinigami’s combat acumen.
Been having much fun as a shinigami then? Holla asked as she took a knee, bringing her right arm up to catch Raidens’ open palm strike. She had taken note of the arching electricity dancing around them, shifting her arm as quickly as she could into thickly knotted wood instead of the green vines. When the palm came down, she could feel the ground crack under her knee, the electricity drawn from Raidens’ rietsu biting angrily at her arm. The wood of her hand however was insulating her quite well, and when Raiden jumped off and away, Holla stood up, coming back into a basic guard, though stopping for a moment to look at her hand. The wood was charred black in places, slight embers still glowing, soft, wafting smoke dancing gentle lines into the air. She also looked down towards her stomach, a hole in her greenery where Raiden had originally punched. The vines around the hole were blackened from the heat; minor burns on the actual skin were present as well.
Damn son, you can hit. Hey, can you hold on a second? I wanna fix this up. She said, moving off to the edge of the sparring ground, putting her left hand against one of the trees that surrounded them. The results were fairly sudden, the charred hand livened up, changing back from wood to lush vines and greenery, no signs of burns or embers. Similarly, her stomach was once again uniformly green, thick plant life outlining the strong abdominal muscles there. Woo, that’s better. First time I’ve ever been hurt, you know, physically. Pain’s uncomfortable, I don’t know why all those 11th divisioners complain about ‘needing to get their wounds fixed’ when they come into the hospital half dead. Holla said, moving back to stand across from Raiden, using a mocking tone when speaking about the 11th division. Anyway, back to the thing. She said, putting her fists up again, tensing her legs for a strong push forward. You know, I still don’t like 12th division the most. 11th, sure, mostly strong arm baboons, but they’re simple, pure, got one purpose and they understand it well. 12 though. Ugh, fecker’s gotta pick a moral direction and stop with all the mad scientist bull, ya know? I’m still trying to talk Gaen into processing some mandatory surgery forms for this guy 12th division guy, Reathin, maybe ‘forget’ the anesthesia to boot. She grumbled, trying to plan her movements while she sized Raiden up. She wanted perfect economy of motion, no wasted energy, no wasted time, go in and strike without an opening to block. She didn’t know if she’d get what she wanted, this guy was DAMNED fast, but she had to trim the fat somewhere.
She burst forward, a plume of dust and dirt flying off behind her as she took up the distance between them in an instant. She planted her foot hard and pushed up, her right arm tucked and her elbow out to snake around Raiden’s arm and collide with his head.
Name; High Elbow Class: Hakuda Tier: IV Type: Supplementary Duration: 3 Posts Range: Close Description: This is a strike with the elbow, aiming above the belt into the collar bone, neck or head. The strike is meant to be quicker than it is strong, aiming to disorient or shock the opponent. This attack causes a 2x debuff to strength as the opponent is too disoriented to put full force into their blows.
He huffed out an amused breath shortly after recovering and getting to his feet again. "Fun.. Isn't exactly what I would describe it as. It's more duty than a hobby," he answered. Sure. There were points that the exhiliration of a fight, the rush of adrenaline had him excited, which was more than normal. He had fought in a ring, or just on the street, as a human before. "Sure," he answered, before snorting. "I can hit? Yeah, I kinda think I'm one of the best brawlers 'round in the Seireitei," his lips moved in a face-splitting and shit-eating grin. "Don't tell me you haven't heard of Raiden 'Dragon Fist' Saitou?" Technically, it was just a title some people in the rukongai had come up with after witnessing how he dispatched of criminals as well as hollows. But it seemed to get traction and some squadmates tended to tease him with it.
Though he took it in stride. It was pretty sweet to have people nickname you like that.
"You seem pretty goddamn opposed to other squads. Eleventh are amazing to drink with, tend to do so before actually clocking in with fourth to get treated. Twelfth. Some real smart beans in there. I ain't had the best education, school drop out 'n all that, so they got that going." He snorted. "There's the minority. But tryna hurt them, doesn't make you any better, either." He added with a shrug. "But I'm getting all preachy again," he nodded towards Holla's feet. "Gotta watch your footwork, by the way. I'm faster, so you don't have to move around to try and throw me off with it. focus on getting result. Flair and misdirection come later."
And he got what he bargained for, the blow smacked into his chin. Holla could feel her elbow collide. And feel the reflected damage. Hitting him was like hitting a three inch metal sheet for a normal human. It was quite painful. Raiden used the momentum to take a step back and turn on his heels, spinning around to smack his heel against Holla's neck within the blink of an eye. The force behind it sufficient to knock the smaller character down if guarded improperly.
Holla felt her elbow collide with the man, and she felt the subsequent cracks that ran down her wooden bones. She was glad that she had used her right arm, that one she could fix quickly and easily, the fractures sealing themselves even as Raiden spun around to bring his heel in at her neck. More reflexively than anything else, she let her body drop, her legs crumpling under her and her arm coming up to deflect the kick. The blow hit her wrist, but deflected it from her head, which was much more costly to have struck. She caught herself in a stance she recognized, but was at the same time unfamiliar with. She was propping herself up on her left hand and foot, a low combat stance that her shinigami used before delivering low kicks. Riiight… muscle memory. Gonna have to get used to that. She thought to herself as she lifted herself forward as quickly as she could, hoping to take advantage of the momentum her opponent had swung his foot with. With a pointed fist, she aimed her knuckes in at a nerve cluster just on the inside of the pelvis of Raiden’s pivoting leg, aiming to deliver a quick jab. She retreated afterward, gain some space to gauge whether her aim had been true.
You and my boy’d get along then. Holla grumbled at the mention of ‘duty’ knowing all too well how Gaen tended to go along with whatever orders were presented to him out of a sense of duty. Anyway, I’m not down on every division. Fourth and Eleventh have… history. She generally didn’t subscribe to team attitudes about things, she wasn’t a very ‘us or them’ type of person. What really drew her attention was when somebody slighted her personally, and she had enough interactions with the eleventh division to say they certainly had her attention. As for twelfth, well, one of ‘em tried to kill my boy, so I’m going to hold a grudge on that one. She said, stretching the truth a little, but she didn’t really see any nuance between ‘accidental’ and ‘purposeful’ attempted murder.
Name: Hobble Class: Hakuda Tier: IV Type: Supplementary Duration: 3 Posts Range: Close Description: With such a high focus on ending the fight quickly, it is only natural to attack the weakest points on the threat. With this technique, the user targets a sensitive pressure point, and with a successful strike the threat suffers a 2x debuff to their speed from the pain.[\spoiler]
So he... She.. It? Whatever, managed to dodge it. The pressure point seemed to do near nothing to him, once again to scratch up to just how tough he was. The amount of beatings he, visible due to a myriad of scars, had to endure was amazing. It was a miracle he had survived this long, was still a properly functioning human without residual scarring causing pain or mental traumas getting in the way of him. Monsters and humans alike, he fought both. To the death, so perhaps not the best mental state. A soldier by any and all means.
He held his fists up, shuffling his foot across the ground to enter a more offensive stance. "Fair 'nuff," he answered as he burst into movement, closing the distance between himself and Holla rapidly. "Kinda sick of the hit 'n run here," he stated while moving forward with a swift jab for the nose, followed by an immediate punch for Holla's chest. Either take the brunt on the nose, or be winded by a tremendous blow on the bottom diaphragm. And so he went on, staying constantly in melee range. As he said, done with the hit and run style of things. It was time for a proper scrap.
Holla was a little disheartened when her opponent didn’t show any signs of even being remotely slowed down by her attack. It made a certain amount of sense; she had felt like she had been trying to poke the pressure points on a marble statue. Whoever this guy was, he was leagues and bounds more powerful than Gaen, which meant she could be the worlds’ most talented martial artist and this guy could weather her assault all day without even noticing. She on the other hand, could likely only take a few more hits like the ones before, after which she’d likely need to find a nice cosy space in Gaen’s head to lick her wounds. She almost chuckled to herself that she had been so arrogant to think she’d have to be concerned for the person she was sparring with. She didn’t even know if it were actually productive for her to continue like this, she wouldn’t know if her techniques were true to form or poor imitations if her opponent reacted impassively to either case. At this point she was just risking injury to Gaen, which was the antithesis of why she had pestered him into letting her fight somebody.
She was about to express her lack of interest in continuing when Raiden vaulted forward with his duet of blows, apparently no longer content with their back and forth either, though taking a very different route than Holla had intended. While Holla had been sincerely debating calling this fight off, she knew better than to drop all of her defenses based on what she had yet to express to her opponent. The strike to the face was the most pressing thing she had to deal with, stepping into Raiden’s jabbing range. The blow struck her squarely in the forehead, but she had head-butt his fist as much as she had punched his head. It hurt, but not as much as if he had gotten the fully extended snap of the jab. The fact that Gaen’s skull was currently being reinforced with hardwood also helped. Her chest she defended in a different manner, turning her body and pushing the punch off to the side. His fist glanced her ribs as it sailed by, but that was a far better result than a broken sternum.
You know, I meant it when I said you and Gaen’d get along. He’s a good kid, nice, doesn’t hold a grudge. He actually THANKED the 12th division guy who almost killed him. She said with a grunt as she tried to hook Raidens’ left arm under her armpit and pulled her knee up into his stomach, trying to wind the man, knowing she was more likely to bruise her kneecap against his cheese grater abs. She kept her left arm free and reinforced it as much as she could with bark and wood to try and act as a halfway decent defensive measure. Just sayin’, don’t judge him based on me, I’m his worst parts. She said, concerned that Raiden may not be looking at Holla too favourably. She couldn’t care less what others thought of her really, she had a job, keep Gaen alive, basically everybody not involved in that could pound sand. Gaen though, had to live a life, and that involved being around people. It was probably best that this nigh indestructible god of melee not see Gaen in an unfavourable light.

Raiden allowed his left arm to be gripped, the knee almost driven up in his stomach. Though his right hand blocked it, before moving around and grabbing the back of Hola's knee and using both his shoulder for leverage, and his current momentum to topple the zanpakutou spirit. It'd result in a very painful smack against the floor, Raiden moving down with Holla. Aiming to overpower the grip on his left arm, he tried to turn Holla around and pull the arm up around her back, to get her in a pretty tight submission hold. His knee pressing down in the back of hers, or at least, attempting to the entire ordeal. If succesful, remaining there for a moment to take a deep breath. "Don't worry," he smirked softly. "I'm the kinda guy to be stupid 'nough to look for the best in people. You're not this Gaen guy. And vice versa."
Giving Holla some leeway to break free again by loosening the grip on her arm, Raiden snorted. "Yer' feisty, got a good set o' balls there," then again. He wasn't really sure if it was anatomically correct. But hey. A compliment's a compliment. And he did admire the spirit for putting up a fight like it did. "Look, if you, or your Gaen kid, are lookin' for actual sparrin' lessons. It won't be the first time I taught people."
Holla almost let herself feel hope that her attack may strike true, but felt the soft thump of her knee being caught in his hand. She didn’t know if he was doing it to protect himself from a strike, reflexively responding to a hostile act at an unconsciously fast level, or just trying to spare her knee the pain of striking diamond hard abdominals. Regardless, she didn’t really have any idea where to go from here, she didn’t have a great wealth of experience in combat to draw upon aside from what she had seen with Gaen. Her shinigami was a much quicker and agile fighter, squirming away from holds before they clamped down. Holla on the other hand was caught completely unaware as Raiden grabbed hold and pitched forward, dragging them both down. There was a hurried and clumsy attempt to break her fall, but with her leg and arm locked in place all she could do was try and elbow the ground with her free arm. Whatever meagre attempt she had made didn’t amount to much, under the weight of the much larger shinigami, Holla found her lungs suddenly devoid of air, and not enough room or strength to try and refill them. As her vision started to come back into focus from the shock of the impact, she was brought around without resistance and found her arm being wrenched up behind her back. The tug on the tendons in her shoulder let her know this was getting dangerously close to dislocation, but Raiden seemed content with where he had her.
Just making sure you, ugh, knew. She said in response to his remark about her not being Gaen, still straining against his grip, the additional strength the ‘Green man’ form gave Gaen’s body not seeming to matter much. He mentioned potentially giving her lessons at the same time, loosening his grip, giving Holla enough room to maneuver. She contemplated throwing in the towel, she was clearly not making any headway against this guy. She was also aware of the mounting strain that her ‘Green Man’ ability was putting on Gaen’s body, muscle tearing under her amplified strength, bones keening with the pressure. But she was stubborn. Kid’s gonna be sore tomorrow. She thought matter-of-factly, hooking her left elbow to take a blind swing at Raidens’ head. Regardless of her success, she aimed to spin bodily around, clinch her legs around his body and wrap her arm around his neck to put him in an underarm headlock.
I may take you up on that offer. She said with a grunt of effort as she tried to enact her plan. And I’m a lady, don’t got nothn’ as sensitive and delicate as ‘balls’ She said, which may have sounded a little odd coming from the excessively deep and gravelly voice that her body currently put forward.
