TAICHI TACHIBANA
"Say what you will. Cowardice keeps me alive."
Powderkeg || Male || Bisexual || Non-Rogue || 12th Division Looks 19 || Died at 19 || ~200 Old
APPEARANCE
Taichi appears as a somewhat tall, lean young man with a headful of fairly long light brown hair. While his hair remains unkempt in the back, he has made some attempt at keeping the front out of his eyes, cutting most of his bangs short just above his eyes. His features are sharp, with a narrow chin and piercing eyes.
He wears the standard shihakusho, with the sleeves tucked into tough, leather gloves that cover his forearms, and legs into boots of similar material. He wears his Zanpakuto at his left hip, wielding it in his right hand. He'll wear his lab coat when he needs to but often goes without it. He also wears large, circular glasses, though they're fake. Taichi thinks they make him look smarter.
PERSONALITY
Going purely off of appearances, Taichi may look to some like a bit of a thug, especially when he forgets to wear his glasses. Though he may give a bit of attitude, that is more or less the extent of his thuggery. Faced with the possibility of actual violence, he is quite quick to turn tail and run. While many may point this out as a flaw in him, he sees it as a strength. He believes that knowing when to run and when to fight will keep him alive longer than the average Shinigami. Of course, it may be a bit of an issue that he sees every fight as one to be run away from.
Taichi can be a bit quiet in actual conversation, only contributing out of obligation to keep the talk going most of the time. If he's really uninterested in the topic at hand, he will often let his mind wander to things that he deems more important. It's not uncommon for him to have to take a moment in the middle of a conversation to remember what they were talking about. When he does speak, he tends to go into too much detail or go off on tangents about things he actually finds interesting. He also happens to love explaining to people how they're wrong about things, apparently unaware of how annoying it is, given that he doesn't seem very malicious in his words.
Though he may be a bit skittish and distant, Taichi isn't really all that bad of a guy. For those that can tolerate his tendencies to think in zig-zags and sometimes even keep up with him, he will find appreciation for. He is all too aware of most of his own bothersome tendencies and will feel that he owes something to those willing to put up with him for extended conversations.
HISTORY
In the world of the living, Taichi Tachibana was born to a Samurai who had given up his title in the wake of their decline, deciding to instead work as a craftsman. He made fireworks and taught his young son to do the same. Despite peasant life and the occasional ridicule based on his father's abandoning of his title, Taichi lived fairly happily. He enjoyed his father's stories from when he was a Samurai, and while they did interest him, he did not desire that life, the excitement of fireworks were enough for him, and much safer than the life of a Samurai.
Taichi developed to be a pleasant young man, hard-working but soft at heart, though perhaps a bit dull. Those who didn't write him off as the son of a family disgraced for its loss of title would often befriend him quickly.
At nineteen years of age, things had been going pretty well for Taichi. He had a few close friends, a bit of a sweetheart, and often helped his father set up fireworks for the occasional show, planning to take over the small workshop in a few more years. During one of these shows though, a firework failed to go off. Having been one for the occasional lapse of judgment, Taichi decided that giving it a soft nudge with his foot might get it to work. The next thing he knew, his leg had been blown off, dying shortly after.
Upon awakening in the Rukongai, Taichi remembered very few things from his life. Consciously, he could really only recall his name, though to some level he must have had inklings of his previous life, for he was instantly drawn to the Shinigami, the closest thing to the Samurai his father had told him stories about.
He failed the entrance exam four times before gaining admission into the Shin'ō Academy, into a year that seemed to lack many promising students. Taichi did not stand out in his training, found to be equally average in most direct forms of combat while being rather mediocre with the control of his Reiatsu and Reiryoku. Given the proper teaching he didn't receive in his human life though, Taichi was found to be a fairly bright young man, a point that certainly helped him through his years in the academy.
Taichi became a member of the Fifth Division upon graduation, serving as an unseated member for many years leading up to a small excursion to take care of what should have been only a few Hollow. He was the first to rush in and the only one to make it out. With his limited ability to sense Reiatsu, he failed to understand just how many Hollow there had been out there, leading the small group of Shinigami to their death. He returned to the Gotei, disgraced and endlessly upset with himself.
The scarred young Shinigami quickly transferred to the Twelfth Division, restricting himself to tinkering for the rest of his years. He made himself useful through supplying other Shinigami with explosives, which he had found in himself a penitent for making. Taichi hoped to never see combat again.

Eishōhaki (詠唱破棄, "Incantation Abandonment"): is the skill in which a Kidō practitioner skips using a spoken incantation completely, but it drastically weakens the spell. ITEMS
REIATSU FEATURES
ZANPAKUTOU
KUROI ZEKKYOU
GUNPOWDER TYPE
FILL THE SKY WITH THUNDER
SEALED FORM
The Zanpakutou takes the form of a simple tanto, with a short, one-sided blade. Its hilt guard is simply a circle with a spiral-like pattern originating from the center. The hilt itself is colored a greyish orange.
SPIRIT APPEARANCE
Taking the form of an older man, Kuroi Zekkyou appears before Taichi clad in worn, ragged clothes covered in ash. His facial features are certainly not as sharp as Taichi's, but his visible eye has the same piercing quality found in the Shinigami's. His other eye is normally covered with a cloth wrapping, and when removed reveals a nasty scar running the length of his face. Kuroi Zekkyou's hair is a graying black, sharing the color with his thick beard.
SPIRIT PERSONALITY
Kuroi Zekkyou acted as a firm, if rather gung-ho mentor to Taichi, having encouraged his user to overcome his shortcomings through training and focus. Taichi's lack of the latter is what both his Zanpakuto and himself blame for the event that led to the Shinigami's refusal to engage in combat for the past many years. Since then, Taichi has not called upon his Zanpakuto in combat, and any attempts to speak with Kuroi Zekkyou have earned him nothing but silence and a deeply disappointed glare. While Taichi interprets this as a form of being reprimanded for what happened, Kuroi Zekkyou is simply waiting for the Shinigami to rediscover his fighting spirit, disappointed that he now hides from battle like he does.
When not giving Taichi the silent treatment, Kuroi Zekkyou seems intent on keeping a harshly logical, almost militaristic air about himself, but often finds his composure broken when Taichi is actually excited over something, becoming similarly enthusiastic and encouraging the Shinigami even despite reason at times.
INNER WORLD
Taichi's Inner World seems to be a weapons workshop of sorts, not dissimilar to the one he spends most of his time in while in the waking world. While it was once a neat little place, the workbenches seem to have materialized more and more unfinished projects over the years, sitting only to collect dust. Taichi does not know where they come from, he theorizes that they may be what Kuroi Zekkyou occupies his time with when dormant.
SHIKAI
SHIKAI APPEARANCE
In Shikai, Kuroi Zekkyou appears as a glaive-like rifle weapon, comprised of a long, cast iron pole with a worn, serrated blade mounted to the side. Beneath the blade, a trigger is mounted to the pole, allowing Taichi to fire from the bladed end. Along the hilt, cloths have been wrapped around the pole, making it slightly more comfortable to wield. Despite firing bullets among other things, Kuroi Zekkyou does not need to be loaded, as the ammunition seems to be materialized by Taichi's Reiatsu.
SHIKAI ABILITIES
Name: Sakebu Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Long - 50m Description: Taichi aims Kuroi Zekkyou at his target before pulling the trigger, firing a single bullet at half-bala speed. This technique has no cooldown.
Name: Hitofuki Kebu Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Poison Range: Short - 5m Description: Kuroi Zekkyou's trigger is pulled, but instead of firing a bullet, blasts out thick, black smoke, designed to cause the affected's eyesight to blur and gut to wrench with nausea. This technique has a one-turn cooldown.
