The sands were teeming with nothing as usual as the tiny hollow walked around. Her eyes never strayed from the path in front of her, though she wasn't truly careless. Her other senses were perked up as always, waiting to pick up some sign of prey or some one who saw herself as such. She was often mistaken as an easy kill due to her size. A small hollow like herself couldn't possibly take down many others was the usual thought. They always ended up realizing the error of their ways, though by then it was more often than not, too late for the poor fools. Today though it seemed like she was to be left alone, a shame as she was bored and could do with a good fight. At the very least she had eaten already so she didn't need to worry about that.
She stopped and dropped backwards into the sand, staring up at the dark sky. Hollows. Forever destined to live in a cold, dark desert, forever fighting for survival amongst the endless white dunes they called their home. She was tired of the endless power struggle to stay as she was. She didn't wish to drift back into the bundle of souls within her. She refused to succumb to them and join the masses. No, she would never become a Gillian again, but at the same time. This hunger, that was forever gnawing away at her, she couldn't fight it anymore. She needed it to end, but how could she do that and retain her sense of self? Was there truly any way for this to be done?
Theocelese appeared, almost out of no where via the use of Sonido. For once, he felt a presence that was recognizable and was taken slightly aback. He was sure the Hollow would have fallen prey to something bigger and scarier, though to her credit, her looks were deceiving. Theocelese was armed as he usually was, but today he carried an additional weapon of sorts, the kind of weapon used to quell arguments and cement the bonding of brotherhood: Alcohol. In his other hand there was no glass, it was empty, implying the Arrancar was drinking by himself. Or rather, the bottle he held was meant to only be consumed by him. The Arrancar took a log swig from the bottle and took to a knee so that he may pet Terra.
"I see you have had no luck in finding a Vasto Lorde to combat. Or is it you still doubt yourself, and your skills, Terra?" He asked, taking another drink from bottle. Following this he sighed loudly, not one aimed directly at her, but for his purpose out here. Mentally, Theocelese found himself in check. The pain in his skull subsided, and no longer was he plagued by the Hollow's Instincts. No more slathering jaws of a predator looking to hunt and kill, and no more unjust ending of lives, no matter what realm those lives dwelt in.
She turned her head as she laid in the sand, looking for the source of the voice which mentioned her name. It was one she recognized and hadn't heard in some time. There before her stood Theocelese, the arrancar who had first told her about a way to get herself out of her current situation. Still it did peeve her that he didn't remember her name.
"Terra." That was all she said before turning her gaze back towards the eternal night sky.
She did however note that he came with bottle in hand along with his usual arsenal of sword and shield. She stared up at the sky just a bit longer before he took a knee beside and proceeded to attempt petting her. As soon as his hand touched her head though, it was like an instinct and she entered a step, the crackling sound of static filling the air as she disappeared from where she was with her Sonido. She reappeared about five meters in front of him, her horn already glowing with the red light of a cero. "Don't pet me!" She didn't yell it, but her voice held a note of finality. Being petted and treated like a small, weak and cute pet was something she hated, and she didn't really care whom it was that tried to do the petting, her reaction was always the same.
"To answer your question, it's both. Though mostly I'm having a hard time finding one of these Vasto Lords." The red glow receded as she calmed herself, "You would think they were extinct. And anyone I've spoken to in passing seems to think they're some sort of a myth or legend. A fairy tale, or better yet a boogey man made solely to terrify weaker hollows and shinigami."
Still though she couldn't deny that the man who stood before her held tremendous power, but that could simply be because he was an arrancar. She raised a hand and touched it to her mask. Did she really wish to break this though? Would she be happy living a life so similar to one of those that she despised?
It may have been the alcohol dampening the ability to think in a proper manner, but Terra's actions caused his lips to curl into a frown. He then took a swig from the bottle, before getting the cork from his pocket. He was about to close off access to the booze, looked as though he thought otherwise and took one final drink before corking it shut. "If I may be of service, in both knowledge and experience..." He began, fishing out a pack of cigarettes from his right pocket and not too long after, a lighter to follow. Theocelese let out a loud grown as he settled on his backside against the sand. It was going to be a bitch to get out from ever crease of his clothing, but that was a problem he'd deal with later. Theocelese lit the cigarette, and locked eyes with Terra.
"I've met other Vasto Lordes, not Arrancar, and most of the time...These encounters are started, and finished at arms length. Though we are at the pinnacle of our kind's evolution, the need to absorb other souls can peak from time to time. Trust is also a rare commodity here. Compared to your stage, where consumption is paramount to maintaining dominance to your form, we know this. We have been there, and we know every single Adjuchas can and will eat us to escape their own peril. This is why they are hard to find, but I know where another Vasto Lorde may reside. From Las Noches, three weeks travel West-bound, there is what looks like a monastery chapel made from the bone and flesh from humans, Shinigami, and Hollow alike.
I was given no name from it, and I gave no name either. But it welcomed me inside, and asked me if I accepted God, despite the truth of the afterlife. I did not accept the invitation, and I felt a strange sensation when it talked to me, not quite fear, but its words kept me on edge. I told the beast I still hold a faith of my own, and our conversation was centered around that topic. Faith, religion, et cetera. The discussion was short lived, as it tried to get close with each word it spoke. I was not in the mood to fight, so I bid my farewells and left. There are a few other Vasto Lordes I have met in my time, but they have not held a static position like this one. I am certain if you travel to this location, it will be there." During his recalling of his meeting The General, Theocelese had smoked another cigarette and stood back to his feet. If he was going to give the Adjuchas information on where one of these Vasto Lordes called home, he might as well be sending her to her death. He didn't like knowing Terra's end may have been his fault.
"If you intend to go such a way, you're going to need to keep yourself at a distance. As someone who specializes in close quarters combat, I felt unease at this thing getting close. Such a statement should speak volumes...Your Cero needs work. Fire one off at me."
She didn't care for his frown, but she also didn't let it show. She simply kept an eye on him as he took another swig from the bottle before fishing the cork out of his pocket with his other hand. Still there was a momentary pause before he spoke up, bottle still uncorked. One more sip, then he plugged it and started to offer advice in the way that reminded somewhat of a human father speaking to his child. She wasn't sure how she felt about this little encounter. His bottle of alcohol was quickly replaced by a cigarette, the roll of dried tobacco leaves easily igniting as he put a lighter to its end and inhaled on the other, pulling in the smoke from the burning leaves. Terra wasn't so sure what it was about these tasks that pleased the man. As far as she knew both those substances were poison, at least to a human body. Theocelese, wasn't human.
Once again, in the sand on his behind the Arrancar proceeded to tell her about a Vasto Lord he had met not too far away from Las Noches. It was as if the gods were giving her a chance at this, though she figured this would be the only one. This encounter sounded like one where you either survived or died trying. She wasn't planning on dying any time soon. During the retelling of his story, the arrancar had finished his first smoke and yet another before standing and turning to look at Terra once more. Another bit of advice from him, but this was about her plan to defeat the hollow. Keeping her distance and taking ranged shots. Well that was already how she fought, she couldn't do much with her short arms and legs. Still when he told her to fire her Cero at him she didn't hesistate. She charged it quickly, as fast as she could to full strength. The red light on her horn shined bright for just a second before the signature sound of the zoom filled the air. She was sure he wouldn't dodge, but she was still interested to see what kind of damage she could do to him.
{Spoiler}Name: Cero (Hollow Flash) Class: Cero/Bala Type: Offensive Range: 100 Meters Tier: IV Description: Are high-powered energy blasts that can be fired from various places on the body. Only Menos, Arrancar, and Vizard have so far been shown to use Cero attacks, and it appears that stronger entities can use it more efficiently. Default ability for Arrancar and Adjuchas/Gillian Hollow
Theocelse, did in fact move out of the way from the Cero. The moment it fired, the Arrancar utilized his Sonido to kneel beside the Adjuchas as she fired the beam off. There were no words of condescension, nor any criticisms. Not yet. He watched little Terra, analyzing the ranged attack from start to finish. Though Theocelese was the type to disregard the use of any specialized ranged attacks if he could help it, he knew not everyone was the same. He took the Adjuchas' form into account, and although he did find the stubby limbs...god damn adorable, they were of no use in the most glorious and honorable form of combat. If asked to fight beside him, at least in her current state, Theocelese would automatically decline, though suggest a role of ranged suppressor. The decision would not have been made to ridicule, but to play out to their strengths and weaknesses.
At last, the Cero's life gave way, and once again Hueco Mundo was silent.
"You jump the gun, Little Terra. You are not in dire straights, try again, but take your time with this shot. Focus it, do not let anything strike concentration from your mind, this must be powerful to bring an equal opponent to its knees." These were all the words that he said, and what he left out was that this happened to be how he heavily improved on his own Cero. For the time being, he would wait and watch once more.
OOC: Seeing as how this is basically just training, I'd just disregard CD because its dumb to wait X posts to shoot again.
She didn't notice when he stepped, not at all. She did however notice that her cero made contact with nothing, meaning he must've stepped out of the way because her aim was pretty dead on. When he appeared beside her she was slightly startled, for one she didn't see him move, two her pesquia wasn't able to keep up with his movements. He was way too fast for her. Was this what it would be like to fight a vasto lord? As her cero came to an end the arrancar began to give his opinion and advice.
"You jump the gun, Little Terra."
The 'Little' was enough to make a muscle in her jaw twitch but she controlled herself, instead choosing to turn and face Theocelese and hear what else he had to say. She was charging too quickly according to him, not focusing her energy enough to cause the necessary impact that she wanted. She'd always thought her cero packed quite the punch on it's own, so she had always focused more on firing speed, but if she could make it stronger. Then why not. She nodded her head at Theocelese and turned to face the position he was previously in. Again she started to charge her cero, but this time she didn't rush it. She focused on the center point of her horn gathering as much energy as she could muster there before once more releasing it all in one go.
Theocelese clapped once, a semi-drunken smile smeared across his bearded face. The impact of the Cero wasn't exactly subtle, and the half-circle perfectly, and temporarily indented into the dunes was exponentially bigger than before. "I won't lie to you, this is both...straining and tedious. What you're basically looking for is to keep that level of power, but getting that power out much faster. Watch." With a raise of his hand, a ball of red energy hastily formed in the center of the Arrancar's palm. No sooner did it form, did the attack exclusive to their kind fire off, much wider and it traveled far longer before dissipating.
"The balance of speed and power in a Cero will make or break a fight, if you so choose to use it. Catch your opponent off guard, feign a strike that puts you in position to fire one off just inches away, and the effects are catastrophic." Theocelese finally lowered his arm, as did his eyes to the Adjuchas. "How is your use of Bala, and Sonido?" Theocelese asked, knowing full well that if Little Terra was going to hunt after a Vasto Lorde, she was going to need a much better grasp of all three of these skills. "Bala is almost the same, all I did to increase my skill was to keep firing them off in volleys. When the...say, 20th wave looked to be much larger than the ten released previously, I knew I was on the right track. As for Sonido...Well, that is easy. And that will be something I can actually help you out with, and I mean in more than words. The exercise is simple, Terra. We will start at four ranges, One-Hundred, Seventy-Five, Fifty, and Twenty-Five yards. You start at the hundred-yard mark, and will have to evade waves of the red bullets with Sonido, and Sonido only. When you reach me, you will get a twenty minute breather.
Then we reset at the Seventy-Five-yard mark, and do it over again. If, or when you become an Arrancar, this can also help thicken your Hierro. Do you wish to do this?"
She did have to admit, the power of her Cero was much stronger, but it was as Theocelese said. She took far too much time to generate the power she was looking for. In a real fight, this was useless. She looked upon the face taken by drink baring a cheerful smile down onto her. She was about to ask what he would do, when he raised his hand pointing a finger and quickly fired a cero. It was larger and faster than hers. Not to mention it's range was much farther. Her widened in surprise and awe. She was truly within the presence of a great being. Indeed, she would probably find no better teacher else where.
"Amazing," was all she said as she watched the amazing feat happen.
Terra stared a moment longer even after the cero was gone, only turning to look when the arrancar spoke again. She listened to the advice thta he gave her, using the cero as a surprise attack. Normally, it was her main weapon outside of her release. That and the bala, she supposed though, she could still do it somehow. "My bala is about the same as my cero, well faster. You get what I mean. As for Sonido, I'm faster than the average hollow." She was curious as to what Theocelese was trying to get at with his questions. Just how much more could she truly improve? She listened to the exercise he proposed and honestly, she thought he was crazy. Why on earth would anyone want to take his bala to the face? Still, if it could help her increase her odds, she was willing. She nodded.
"Time, practice, application in both a simulated, and actual combat. Rinse and repeat, Terra. This is the manner in which you will see yourself grow in power. For what we are about to do, you cannot afford to falter. This does not end until you either complete the exercise, or go unconscious." Like many of the other beings Theocelese helped tutor, he would not enact any maneuver done on his end to go at full strength. Would this hurt like hell? Yes, and while the effects of his Bala would at best, leave bruising deep enough to go to the bone, Terra was in no real danger here. Her life was not his to take, she had done no wrong to him, his home, or the scattered remnants of his family. Theocelese stood up straight, and in a single seconds worth of time, he vanished, and appeared exactly a hundred yards away from the Adjuchas.
There were no words to denote the training to begin, just a single pillar of Bala being fired off at Terra's location. The stream would follow the Adjuchas, as dictated by its creator. This distance, Theocelese felt, should be the easiest but also the hardest. There was much ground to cover, and while he did not shower the area in front of him with attacks, the distance would cause the straight line of fire to stray off course. One wrong move, and it could set Terra back for the rest of the experience.
The small hollow nodded her head as Theocelese spoke to her, explaining what it was that she was about to go through. Honestly, this kind of interaction was surprising for her. She had never met a hollow willing to teach another how to become stronger. Hueco Mundo was truly a place that abided by the rules of "Survival of the fittest", none would knowingly help the other to grow in terms of strength. That was like giving your prey the means to defend itself. Though she supposed it wasn't impossible if it somehow would bear fruit for the one doing the teaching. In this case, Theocelese was already an arrancar, and a powerful one at that. He didn't seem to need to feed constantly like Terra did, nor did he seem particularly worried about her felling him in combat. Perhaps he was raising her so she would one day be an entertaining opponent, but the way he went about it made her feel like he was seeking more a future ally than anything else.
"Alright then, let's get this over with."
As soon as the words left her mouth the arrancar disappeared into a sonido appearing some 100 yards away, and only in one step. She looked at the distance she had to cover, in reality it wasn't that far, but with Theocelese standing there as her goal the gap seemed to be impossible to close. The small hollow gritted her teeth, her hands clenching at her sides as she prepared herself. The first bala came and she was gonna, her presence replaced by the sound of static. She reappeared to her right, the second bala was close behind the first and she stepped again immediately. As she was currently she could dodge them, but she noticed that she couldn't go forward. The bala were so close behind each other that she felt if she tried to move forward she'd simply run into the one following behind.
Still she couldn't allow this to stop her from going further. If she stopped here because of this how was she going to take down the legendary beast called a Vasto Lord. She strengthened her resolve and the next step she took sent her forwards. She dodged the first, then the next and in that order she kept going. She didn't get hit until about half way to her goal. Terra still kept herself locked onto her goal. A hand grabbed onto the ground and steadied herself before she pushed off into another step, narrowly dodging another bala. She kept moving again, this time making it further going to about seventy-five yards before another bala smacked her in the face. She pushed through this one one though, taking the hit and entering one last step, finally landing in front of Theocelese.
"There, how was that?" she asked, her breath slightly laboured.
There was no time for speaking, no time for a reply. Whatever mention there was for Terra to catch her breath was gone. Theocelese Stepped at the next ranged distance, seventy-five yards away from Terra's current position and from there, another storm of Bala would be coming at Terra. There were twice as many this time, and they were scattered out just a little bit more than before. This would make using Sonido just a little bit harder, as the waves of Bala were less predictable. The gamble of using the Hollow version of Flash Step could pay off, or Terra could pay dearly for doing such a thing. The following distances Terra would need to travel, fifty and twenty-five yards would merit even larger torrents of the Hollow Bullets, with even more erratic travel patterns the closer she got to him. Terra would be afford no breaks, she needed to be on her feet, so to speak. Even if she had been knocked down, she would still be under assault.
Yet when the reverse of distance needed to be traveled, the patterns were reversed. Starting closer would be the same as when Terra started off at the maximum distance, but the pattern of keeping Terra constantly under presser and under fire remained.
She waited for an answer, or at least she would've if he hadn't decided to simply carry on with the next phase of the exercise. No sooner than the words had left her mouth, he was another seventy-five yards away already firing off another wave of bala at her. This time the pattern was less predictable, but she couldn't hesistate and entered sonido again. She dodged the first few quickly, going left then right up high in two rapid steps. She deftly dodged bala after bala, each step she took being slightly faster and smoother than the other, but it was still difficult for her to get close to Theo. Every now and then she was either grazed by a bala or hit directly, slowing her approach or pushing her further back. Still she persevered and pushed through until she finally closed the seventy-five yard gap, then again as he did before Theocelese was gone immediately to the new distance of fifty yards and firing a new and even less predictable wave of bala.
This time she only dodge the first three before she got hit again, sending her down into the ground. By the point she felt battered and sore but she had to keep on going if she intended to get any stronger. She took the brutal onslaught of bala until she was able to finally stand to her feet again and start using Sonido. Again she moved here and there as she attempted to avoid all the bala, still being hit by a few but not as much as before as she started to change her stepping pattern herself. Instead of just pressing on forward she now stepped into any open space she could find, she was no trying to read the bala and dodge them all completely instead of just making it to Theo. There was no point if she was just going to get hit by every attack on the way. Still it wasn't a matter of how fast she could step now, she needed to be able to avoid more shots in one step than she was doing so far. One step needs to get here further than it's been doing so far.
It was now that she chose to push her limits, going farther and farther with each step and soon enough closing the distance. Then again Theo was was gone and firing even more sporadic waves of bala. By now Terra was in a groove and her steps seemed flawless as she dipped and ducked the attacks coming her way. The sound of the echoing shots and static filled the air as Theo fired away and she dodged. She wasn't sure how much time had passed, it felt like an eternity, not that she really had the luxury of thinking about how much time went by. She was more preoccupied with attempting to avoid these bala than anything else. Still sure enough she managed to hit the 25 yards, landing beside Theo, whom again disappeared and reappeared another 25 yards away, though this time the bala came once more in a straight line. Sure the range was closer, but them simple pattern made thing easier for her, this time it didn't take much for the small hollow to close the gap.
Now he was another fifty yards away firing down brimstone and hellfire on the smaller hollow who dodged as best she could. The firing pattern was still simple enough that she didn't do much work to avoid the shots closing the distance quickly. At seventy-five yards however she was back to trying mostly to not get hit than she was with pressing forward. Still it didn't take her as long as the last time and it wasn't long before she was planted in front of Theocelese. This meant she had one more set to do and she would be finished. Her body was covered in bruises, with some bleeding here and there, but she didn't let that stop her. If she could avoid all of these she'd be fine.
The volley came quickly and so she carried on with her sonido. Going back, forward, left, right, up, up, down to the left, forward to the right. Every pocket she saw she immediately made her way there, closing the distance bit by bit as she danced around the balls that had now become the bane of her existence. She gave it her all, her concentration focused mainly on her speed and where she could go without being shot down immediately. Eventually she finally traversed the 100 yards, this time without being touched by a single bala. Of course by now her breathing was laboured and she wanted to kill Theocelese, but she knew that was out of her power.
