A bright flash enveloped the two of them, a flash so bright that Mihri's eyes could not stand it. The acuity of her eyes carried a certain weakness, too much light and Mihri was easily blinded. She felt herself get pulled into something just when the blinding light faded. She opened her eyes and saw the cone-like portal that Toshi pulled her along. They felt like they were flying, and very quickly, but as they moved the center of the cone did not seem to grow closer. Mihri closed her eyes and held Toshi's hand tightly, suddenly afraid of falling. Her fear subsided just as quickly as it began when Mihri suddenly felt firm ground beneath her feet. Firm... cold... Mihri opened her eyes, and for a moment allowed for them to adjust. All around her was an endless plane of snow and rocky plateau, made bright and splendorous by shining sunlight that gleamed off the crystal-like snow. Far beyond, a valley widened where an icy river trickled through and beyond the horizon. Mihri looked to her left to find Toshi, who seemed just as surprised at the wonderland as she. He dashed to the end of the cliff they stood upon, he turned and said something to Mihri. Mihri heard footsteps in the snow behind her. She laughed out loud when out of the blue a snowball pegged Toshi in the face. Toshi almost fell off the cliff, just before a full sized Kanaboshi dressed in winter clothes raced forward and grabbed him, pretending for a moment to almost let him fall off. Kasei, dressed similar, approached as well, and seemed to share a perplexed glare with Mihri as her sibling tackled Toshi and the two wrestled in the snow. They rose from their giggling after a moment. Kanaboshi and Kasei greeted her with a playful thumbs up, which Mihri naturally returned, giggling along with them. She found it odd that they welcomed a 'Zanapakuto-san' that's when Mihri finally noticed him.
"My feathers are wet." grumbled a voice that sounded like it belonged to a gruff, middle aged Englishman. Mihri quickly spun to see Mokin. The great grey antlered owl stood in his four foot grace, shuddering snow from his feathers, slouching, and looking rather miserable. "I will have to molt some of these feathers now, dammit. My flight feathers are ruined! Ruined!" Complained the owl, as he plucked a couple of waterlogged feathers from his wings by pulling them out with his beak.
The owl bent his head forward and arced his wings above his back as he took tentative and wobbling steps through the snow. Mokin stopped beside Mihri, rotating his head and body left and right, up and down, in the way owls do to evaluate threat. The antlers on Mokin's brow seemed to twitch as he inspected their companions. He spoke as his body continued to shift and investigate, "Don't welcome me! How am I suppose to fly with wet feathers, hmm?! I like this place not, Mihri, not!"
Mokin fell face first into the snow when Mihri gave him a swat on the back of the head. Mihri spoke with a chastising tone, "Stop whining, you big baby. You're being rude. Toshi was polite enough to let us in here, so show some courtesy!" Mihri turned to address Toshi, Kasei, and Kanaboshi. "Sorry about him. He gets moody when his feathers are wet. Actually, he's always moody."
Mokin lifted his head from the snow and rotated his neck right around to scowl at Mihri. "Fine, but you owe me one!" Mokin turned his head back around and leapt up from the snow. He again shuddered snow off his body. Mokin stood straight and almost looked proud. "My name is Mokin." The owl seemed to bow, however an owl could. "It is a pleasure, truly, I just wish we could meet in more... comfortable conditions."
Mihri looked around, drinking in the sights with her sharp eyes. It was a flat, featureless world, save for the occasional cliffs and the river valley. As far as the eye could see, it was a rolling plain of cliff and snow. Mihri wondered what would come next. "What even is this place?" She asked, hoping her vague question might lead to something.
He smiled as Mihri gave the girls a thumbs up, laughing as she did so. Somehow Mihri seemed like a different person. She was so much less cold now, she seemed to much more warm and welcoming. He almost wanted to say something when he noticed Kanaboshi and Kasei greet yet another being. Toshi's eyes widened, his pupils contracting to points. So it really was true!? He had not anticipated that the shinigami's Soul-cutter Sword Spirit would appear here, inside his... Well his Hyperbola now, he guessed it was. He stared at the spirit with wide, incredulous eyes. He was quite small, a bit shorter than Kanaboshi but he looked fierce with those antlers of his. Toshi bowed deeply to Moukin, but the owl seemed more preoccupied with his grumbling. His feathers were wet!? What did he expect, there was snow everywhere! Toshi laughed as he plucked some of his feathers out.
Though that was nothing compared to the laugh when Mihri, in true slapstick fashion, gave him a good old fashioned "clip around the earhole", causing the owl to fall flat on its face. Toshi was a sucker for that kind of thing. Kanaboshi laughed loudly too, but Kasei, who was more sensitive, frowned and looked down at the ground.
"A complainer? I wouldn't know anything about that..." he laughed, and Kanaboshi scowled at him. The owl got back up, shaking the snow from his body kind of like a dog, and introduced himself. Toshi nodded as Moukin he lamented the snow and the ice.
"Ahh it's a good point, Moukin-sama." Toshi said. He walked back towards the edge, looking out over the world. Far off in the distance, he saw a fire burning somewhere. The dazzling gleam of sunset was upon them. Indeed he was surprised that it had been evening here in this world. The snow was lit up like fire across the landscape but the last rays of the sun were finally vanishing. Ordinarily it was just before midday, but clearly things did not work the same in the Hyperbola. In fact, he could already see the moon high overhead; it wouldn't be long, he supposed, before it got totally dark.
"Usually this place is quite arid, yanno? Full of big sandstone mesas and crap." he eyes the fire down below. That could only be one person. He recalled the last time the weather had changed unexpectedly; that had been when Ianto had taken control of his body, and he had had to fight the spirit for dominance. He looked back over at Mihri and Moukin. "I just passed out from fighting a hollow once and kind of woke up here. Kanaboshi was here. Do you have an inner world too, Mihri-san?" he asked. He had thought it was something unique to him. Though Toshi was more happy that he had experiences to share with others. He didn't want to be unique and isolated and alone any more.
"Yeah and we have to be here the whole time we're not with you, would it really hurt to get some utilities installed or something!?" Kanaboshi complained from where she was stood, eyeing up the owl. Toshi could tell she wanted to stroke him. He could also tell that that would more than likely end very badly for her.
"Kanaboshi, p- please don't be so rude..." Kasei stammered nervously, glancing sideways at Mihri and Moukin. Toshi merely rolled his eyes, and walked back to the rest of the group.
"It's weird. I think it's because you're here that this place is so snowy, Mihri-san." He said as the sun finally slid below the horizon. The whole world was instantly blanketed in darkness. "Ahh well, at least it's snow, and no other... Weird stuff happened." he said, pulling a sour face. Once he had entered his Parabola and had been totally naked, a dumb trick played on him by his Hogo-Sha. Kanaboshi had taken to making a snow angel in a patch of snow. At least she was enjoying herself, Toshi considered.

Mokin seemed as yet unperturbed by the laughter that came all around at his expense. He seemed, at this point now that his moaning was done, just as rock hard as Mihri had seemed before. He did not know them, Toshi and his spirits, so he shut himself behind a veil of disinterest and no small amount of angst. Mihri laughed and smiled along with Toshi and the spirits, herself having warmed to the peculiar trio. Mihri had trusted Toshi enough to follow him here, she trusted him to see her true feelings now. Mokin, however, still needed to be convinced.
Mihri had thought a comparison to her own inner world rather apt, if only a significant difference in appearances and population. Toshi seemed ever more Shinigami-esque by the moment, ever more a curiosity. A person from the Soul Society might even confuse him for a Shinigami, having seen what Mihri has up until now. Mihri was only half convinced he was not a Shinigami or some variant thereof. She had heard of Fullbringers, Bounts, Humans who could sense spirits, she has encountered more Quincy than she dare speak of, yet none she had seen possessed any power such as his. The Reiatsu he boasted was nothing short of improbable. For certain he was a Human, but Mihri thought there was something deeper than that. Mihri looked past Toshi and the spirits, out into the horizon in the way only her eyes could see. "Yes, very much alike indeed. Every Shinigami will have one, when they achieve their release. A kind of home for the Zanpakuto spirit, that literally exists inside the soul. My world is much more verdant. It is an infinite expanse of forest, each Shinigami's inner world is unique." Mihri explained, again sounding somewhat wistful. Kanaboshi flopped into the snow and began to push the snow aside with her arms and legs, forming a strange pattern in the snow. Mihri thought the act peculiar, she would only dampen her clothing and catch a cold. Perhaps it was a human thing, Mihri simply ignored the most recently presented oddity. Mihri wished something peculiar other than deep snow would have happened, even a naked Toshi would have been preferred, as the snow was well soaked through Mihri's sandals and socks. She did not make even a murmur of discomfort.
"Intriguing. I can only enter my inner world through dreams or meditation. I have never heard of any Shinigami who's inner world could be accessed by others." Though to say she 'entered' her inner world was inaccurate, she brought the world out of her, or Mokin forced it out, into her conscious mind. Mihri's brow furrowed, she looked perplexed, "Am I physically here, though? My senses are as... keen... as they would be in my inner world or the real world, I feel nothing strange." Mihri locked her gaze on Toshi, her burning blue eyes trying to gaze beyond, then she gazed at Kanaboshi, "What are you?"
Hmm, so Mihri's inner world was a big forest, huh? Toshi wondered what each of their "inner worlds" meant. Did it say something about them? And if so, what? He considered all of the ancient mythologies he had studied that told of worlds inside of people and of their spirits manifesting in some kind of animal or humanoid form. It all seemed to be grappling at the same notion; what is a human soul. He didn't feel like he was any closer to the answer than any of those old guys had been, despite his access to better information than they had been.
Somewhere behind Toshi, deep in the valley, the fire went out. Mihri's method of entering her inner world sounded kind of like Toshi's. Just a deep enough meditative trance. He really wanted to see inside, he wondered if there would be something different about a shinigami's world. Though...
"Hmm, well usually my body just goes limp. But I'm not sure that's the case this time though. I think we might physically be in here this time." He explained. It would be awkward if they got eaten by a strange hollow while in Toshi's Hyperbola. But usually he could sense reiatsu outside of it. Here he could only sense his own, Mihri's and the subtly different spiritual pressure of Moukin. His own Hogo-Sha felt quite different to him, in those terms.
"I'm a snow angel!" Kanaboshi responded to Mihri, with a large grin. Toshi smiled and shook his head, before turning around. He noticed the fire had gone out. He frowned. If that was Ianto, or Mokusei-san as the girls called him... He wasn't sure he wanted Mihri to meet him. He was a pretty bad-news customer. Kasei seemed to notice as well, as she looked seriously at Toshi. He'd have to wrap this up pretty soon.
"Well that was interesting. It's a bit chilly here, maybe we should go ba-" he began to say, however he was cut off. Toshi's eyes went wide, his pupils contracting to tiny dots, as sillhouetted behind him was the huge, hulking, antlered form of Ianto. Muscles rippling from having seemingly climbed up the cliff, he glared at them, his four eyes glowing red with hate. Toshi turned around, and formed a golden yellow barrier, roughly the size and shape of a katana, in his right hand, which he gripped tightly.
"So hasty..." Ianto laughed, his voice multilayered, as if many people were speaking at once. Kasei stepped in front of Toshi, her hands and eyes glowing. Kanaboshi had got up from the floor and run to stand in front of Mihri and Moukin, a defiant look in her baby blue eyes.
"Go." said Kasei. "Take them with you." she commanded. At precisely that moment, Ianto seemed to throw forth his arm and a stream of crows burst forth from him, headed straight for Kasei. Toshi turned on his heel, the barrier dispelling itself, and ran towards Mihri. If she tried to fight, or face off against Ianto, he would flash step in front of her, using his slightly outlandish and tone-deaf step. He would go in for a tackle, at the same time bursting out of his world. If she'd had any more questions, they'd have to wait until they got out.
If successful, they would emerge, flying sideways onto the top of the building they had been on, landing in a heap, with Toshi's arms wrapped around Mihri from having physically dragged her off the surface of the Hyperbola. No good.

Toshi continued in response to Mihri's questioning, while Kanaboshi continued her odd ritual and she provided and equally odd answer. Mihri was about to respond, but cut herself off when something seemed to alert Toshi. She studied him curiously, listening, trying to see. Her ears heard heavy breathing, the sound of pounding feet crunching and packing snow beneath hard sprinting steps. Suddenly, as if a demon from the aether, the massive form vaulted up the cliff. It was a demon. It had skin of crimson and four burning yellow eyes, its body a tower of red muscle. Toshi seemed threatened, drawing a Katana made of the strange barrier from before. The spirits and Toshi stood defiant to the demon. It laughed, then flung its arms forward, throwing a plague of what appeared to be crows at them. Mihri dodged with a flash step.
Mihri's arm shot over her right shoulder, grasping for a longsword that was not there. But he was there. He was always there. Mokin bounded forward, pushing off the ground with his right talon, kicking up a great puff of snow as he launched himself at Ianto. Mokin scratched and pecked at the red spirit’s face, aiming a talon for eyes, a beak towards his cheek to pull and rip flesh, anything to wound the beast. Mokin’s body flashed with a brilliant blueish-white hue and the single massive owl became five. The other owl bodies seemed to simply blink into existence beside the original before charging Ianto with claws raised.
Mihri tried to will a sword into her hand, but one did not appear. She tried to will her shield to manifest, but her powers were unresponsive save for her heightened senses. Suddenly, a significant weight knocked Mihri off her feet. The jarring impact forced her eyes closed. When she opened them, she and Toshi were back in Karakura, although a couple meters up, falling toward the roof of the building they had been on prior. Mihri hit the rooftop hard. Five longswords had come through with them, dropping onto the roof with the repeated metallic clangs of cluttering metal.
“What just- I-” Mihri stammered, turning her gaze to Toshi when she shakily came to her feet, piecing together what had thrown her back into the real world, “You alright? Was that another of your spirits? He seemed not so friendly as the other two.” She stated the obvious, brushing dust from her uniform with her hand. The swords flashed and faded away until there was only one left, the last sword then flew into the sheath on Mihri's back.
(ooc: No worries! The post is great. Perhaps we should wrap this thread soon regardless)
Toshi relinquished his protective grasp of the shinigami, unwrapping his arms and rolling away. He clutched at his face, yet more blood appearing upon his shirt, this time it was his own. Jee that had been a close one. Mihri had seemingly been unable to summon her zanpakuto, but five of them now clattered to the floor around them. He staggered to his feet, blinking away the blood that was in his eyes, wincing in pain. Right. Moukin had been right there, ready to defend them. Such was the spirit of the shinigami, ready to leap into danger to protect others. In some circumstances, that meant something different to him and them, he had seen tonight. But in this, their response had been uniform. He leaned over, droplets of hot blood splashing to the rooftop, as he panted with exertion.
"Yeah, you noticed, huh." he said bitterly, tearing at one of the sleeves of his shirt. With a crude rip it came free. He could hear the Hogo-Sha arguing in his head. Now Toshi wasn't there, Ianto wasn't much of a threat, and the two girls could deal with him easily. He knew that, of course and so wouldn't attempt to engage them in combat, but they were angry, both with Ianto and with Toshi, too. He had put them all in danger, it seemed. He pulled his sleeve off of his arm and wrapped it tightly around his forehead, so at least his eyes wouldn't be covered in blood. The rest of his face was a little bit of a mess still, however.
"I guess I wouldn't be a real orphan if I didn't have some emotional hangups from it." he was ashamed to have showed her that part of himself, all he wanted now was to sink into the very ground they stood upon. He gingerly dabbed at another of the cuts on his face, the damage the Owl's talons had done to Ianto now reflected upon Toshi. He would usually ask if Mihri was okay, if she needed any help or if she had hurt herself but all he could think of now was that he had to get out of this situation before it got any worse.
"I- I'm so sorry." he said, and with that, he leapt off of the roof, and sprinted off towards the train station using his step, his reiatsu suppressed to imperceptibility. He loudly shouted at the spirits to shut up both in his head and out, he was so frustrated and upset.

There was a moment where Mihri had again wondered what this Human had gotten her into, what form of reprimand would she receive for their actions tonight. Toshi was legal, he could be a powerful ally, but one could hardly predict Captain Kuchiki’s policies. She looked at Toshi, sighed audibly, and shook her head. The fascinating experience with the Human’s powers had gone sour quickly. They were chatting, Mihri was questioning, feeling like she might be scratching at some grand truth when when it all went wrong. The third spirit had come from nowhere, throwing its powers around on sight like he did not care for consequence, somewhat like a hollow might. Mihri again wondered, and realized, that this mess, had been Mihri making a friend.
Mihri saw the blood oozing from beneath the sleeve tied around Toshi’s head, wondering how he even received such wounds. “Toshi, you’re hurt. Let me-” before she could finish, Toshi had stammered out an apology, and just as suddenly flew away with what appeared to be a stepping technique. Before Mihri could even think to react, the Human was beyond the reach of her own stepping techniques. He had gone alarmingly fast. She sighed again, awkwardly itching the back of her head. Mihri wondered if she would ever see Toshi again. She hoped so, Mihri thought that he could be of use to her and the Gotei, for the preservation of the balance.
For the second time that night, the Soul Communicator shattered quiet musings. Mihri checked the device, it showed a stray Plus less than a kilometre away, recently deceased. As always, duty had called, and by honour and sword, Mihri took off with a flash step to answer.
