PERSONALITY
Natural selection made one thing very clear, the weak must be purged. Rein has taken it upon himself to be purity's divine instrument, devout to a fault and infinitely merciless there is nothing more dangerous than a zealot. Convinced his immortal soul is clean and his work shall be rewarded in the true promise land, and in an astonishingly stubborn state of denial that the truly faithful and resolute are limited to Soul Society. He is grateful for the nature of his powers, able to remove souls completely and break the cycle of sin, there is no way for the sinful to become pure, you either are already or you are not. This is not to say that he does not allow repentance, but that is mostly out of habit than actual effect.
However his steady hands are not restricted to the mission by far, making his modest fortune as an accomplished tailor in Karakura Town, mostly attending to the wealthy and the high brow. Finding that the Sweeney style drew too much attention at first when worked for both prince and pauper, he had to restrict himself to the rich by increasing the prices exponentially. While they were by no measure as pure as himself, many were by their own family bloodline standards, and this he had learnt to curb his actions for. His shop is neatly tucked away in the districts, without a sign and blacked out windows, living in the humble apartment above. His clientele knew who and where he was, by working so incognito he was able to keep the curious, or even worse, window shoppers out.
When not working by the seam or the lord, Rein can often be found frequenting nearby churches for inspections of their work and not so thinly veiled threats should they be mis-using or underusing their powers. Also schools for impromptu lectures about living a worthwhile life, much to the displeasure of the teachers. He generally avoids killing children if he can help it, adults have lived their lives and had the tastes of freedom that destiny refused them. However children were ignorant to the world, and therefore could not expect to understand why they could not be allowed a continued existence. Rein is on an endless mission to continue his own pure line, however of the quincy he has met so far, they all fell short of the mark.
His face is an aspect he has no real opinion on, his appearance neither but for some reason despite being a bespoke tailor with impeccable taste and extortionate prices he still wears clothes handed down through his family. However, at a young age there was an incident with a ginto tube that permanently scarred every inch of skin on his body. Instead of healing him, the family physician, under the orders of his mother, healed into the scars, stopping the bleeding but marking him as eternally ugly. His indifference towards it can be seen as unsettling, but his physical presence and height stop the majority of people from talking about it or staring for too long.
HISTORY
Reins family line has stayed pure since the massacre, many generations of pure Quincy following the proud tradition of working towards a pure world. Fully aware that the world will have a population in the double digits should they actually succeed, their work is unimpeded, and so this responsibility passed down to Rein. This is the abridged story of how they survived, and why they no longer live.
While the tapestries of his family had long since been shredded, their estate burnt, their fortune picked clean by the carrion banks and his crest left behind, every member of his family had known the history before them. His ancestor during the massacre had fought on the front lines, after siring a son he had nothing left for his life, his family line secure in his child's blood and so he went to war gladly. Suffice it to say he was killed almost instantly, diced, chopped, decapitated and head stuck on a pike for all to see while his body crackled in the fires below. However his son, smuggled out with a small contingency of Quincy, went on to live, and soon grew into a strong and capable boy.
On this boys 10th birthday, a decision was struck, rifts were formed and a short lived rivalry broke out. The group were tired, covered in the blood of their kin and worn from the years of hiding, the pure bloods blamed the mixed bloods for their impurity, and the mixed bloods blamed the pure for being too arrogant. The pure bloods were outnumbered 3-1, however they had something the mixed bloods did not, the boy. While the mixed bloods were set on war and tension between the two grew, he walked into their camp under the banner of innocence and killed them all without hesitation or order. When the sun broke that day and the scene unfolded, the pure bloods hailed the child as a gift from the lord, the one who would keep the ranks clean and ensure a prosperous future. The Shinigami close behind concluded upon seeing the sight that they had all died, and so allowing the group to slip into the human world. But peace born of war was not set to last.
Before the group knew it, the boy was a man, and his boy was a prodigy in the arts of the Quincy. Growing up in a time of peace but bred for war put this child constantly on edge, his father had grown suspicious and saw impurity in everyone. His wife, the boys mother, had suspiciously disappeared a few years ago after accusations of being a mixed blood. The father was very tight lipped on the matter, everyone knew what had happened but no one complained, no one complained and lived anyway. The boy had too much energy, kept looking for fights, saw his father as the perfect leader and so followed his example. Five years later the boy was a developing teenager, and one night the curse of his family was born. A thought struck him, then a suspicion, and within two days, he had murdered his own father and took over the family.
The curse of his family stretched through the generations, no parents living past their child's teenage years despite anyone's best efforts. Either by direct murder or indirect coincidence the curse went all the way down to the day Rein killed his own parents in a rather swift sharpened forklift incident. Due to the limited numbers and refusal to inbreed, this meant that the group that had originally escaped was now down to one, dozens of pure Quincy wiped out because of the family curse, he now looked forwards to the day his own child would kill him. By the time it had gotten to Reid, he had killed his parents out of tradition, not suspicion. He had grown up knowing it would happen, and his parents raised him proudly knowing that one day he would come for them with the skills they had taught him.
And thus here we are at present time, Rein tore his family history down, salted the fields and walked away forever. As the last of the family with no more pure bloods in sight, he would not let their work fall into the hands of the Shinigami, nor leave any trace of them that he could be traced through. It did not take him long to hear of spiritual goings on in Japan, and so he bought himself a translation book and set off to spread the divine work to a new town.
