The sun high in the sky, the streets and sidewalks clear of most garbage and mayhem, the gentle breeze of the wind; all in all it was a fine day to be out for a walk in town, the weather warm and inviting as it comes. Walking the streets were students just out of the high school a few blocks away and adults going about their lives all the same, and in the middle of it all, a black-haired man with a deceivingly young appearance walked down the street to the beat pounding in his earbuds, oblivious to the world around him, only noting the other people walking around him as he moved effortlessly around and in between them. He’d heard this song on a cosplay showcase video he’d seen the other day and had it on repeat ever since. Head bobbing, he continued to walk the street, oblivious to the occasional tremor that shook the ground, unnoticed by the general populace, blissfully ignorant to the deeper workings of the world around them.
He was, of course, in spirit form, wearing his usual attire, so the other humans couldn’t see him, and there wasn’t necessarily any reason for him to move around them, but it felt right. As he came to a street corner, he stopped unnecessarily as cars moved past. Now stopped, he spread the feel of his Reiatsu and felt the Hollow Reiatsu moving a few blocks down. Gazing down the street, he took out one ear bud. Another light tremor hit, and he heard it moving.
“Well now,” he said, his lips curling up in a mischevious grin, “what do we have here?”
Ai made her way through Karakura Town, making sure to not walk too fast or even to put her feet down too fast or hard as she had learned from the past few times she had been in this town. However, no matter how lightly she tried to walk, the ground would still shake, so she decided to move in a way where she wasn't moving too fast, but fast enough for her to actually make progress in where she was heading. Though it wasn't long until she had a feeling that kept bugging her, so she'd keep looking around as she walked, though she didn't exactly know what the feeling was.
Either way, she'd stop for a moment, taking a look at the people who were walking around and even the vehicles that were driving past, all she did was tilt her head slightly as she watched several people walk past her. However, after scanning the area of people a few more times, she had eventually noticed someone who was dressed funny and was seemingly actually looking at her. Well, her was a hard term right then, as Ai was an Adjuchas level hollow after all. She didn't know entirely what was going to happen, but neither did she know when she was actually feel hungry again since it had been a little too long since she had last eaten.
Hidane continued walking down the street. He was in no rush; there was no commotion suggesting any chaos, and the Reiatsu he was feeling, though Hollow, felt anything but hostile. The beat of the music pumping in his ears, he walked to the beat, spinning as he danced down the street, well aware the likely nobody could see him. Soon he rounded the corner and saw the source of the Reiatsu; and quite the source it was. A giant monster of a Hollow, slowly making its way down the street. Now, this was interesting; it was making its way down the street, but it seemed as though it was going out of its way to try to avoid causing any trouble. It would only be a matter of time before a Shinigami would show up to ‘deal with the situation’ anyway, he was sure.
But luckily for this seemingly peaceful giant, Hidane was now on the case, as a loud crack sounded off his Sonido bringing him up to a rooftop that the Hollow was just about to pass. He appeared sitting on the edge, right foot flat on the edge of the roof, tapping to the beat, left leg dangling over the edge. He pulled the earbud out of his left ear, red-and-white bi-colored eyes watching the Hollow closely.
“Well, hello there. A bit far from home, aren’t we?”
The giant hollow that was called Ai by her first friend a, seemingly, while back had soon heard a loud crack that caused the hollow to look around in confusion. She couldn't find the source of the sound that she had heard after she had stopped looking at the person that had stood out to her as they had seemingly looked towards her when no one else was really looking at her. Now there was another sound that popped up near her. It was from the top of a building she was about to pass. It was the man that had seemingly been looking at her.
Home? Was this meant as her being far from the place that really only had sand and other beings such as her? If so, then she certainly was far from home, but she didn't really want to be there as she had quite a bit of trouble controlling her hunger, since it wasn't something that she wanted to have to do, but she didn't want to continue to be attacked, which was something that had happened to her almost daily at some point. But enough about that and back to the the man. "I am. You smell like you're not home either." She'd say, tilting her head again but with the hollow wasn't anywhere near as old as some of the other hollows that were still alive and all, but she could feel that she didn't really wanna mess with this person. But just messing with someone for no reasion, she was a contradiction compared to her entire race.
"Why are you here?" She asked, curious as to why the person was talking to her in the first place since her instincts were nagging at her, but right now she could keep them in control, though her hunger was slowly growing and she would feel as she would start losing control if too much time passed talking and such.
The newcomer spoke rather eloquently, for a giant monster of a Hollow. If the humans below could see, they would probably be screaming in terror and running about like it would matter, like it would save them if this Hollow even seemed to be violent. He could swear he could remember a slightly more action-and-explosion-y version of a scene like this in a movie he saw on TV recently, but that wasn’t important right now. She certainly was far from home; and yes, from the voice, he could presume this Hollow was a she; and the Visored now only wondered why. Given her power level, she was likely an Adjuchas, meaning she had no reason to be pursuing the souls of the recently deceased. It would do her no good, and she wasn’t here to satisfy more savage instincts, otherwise she wouldn’t be avoiding causing any trouble.
“Me, not home?” The comment caught him off guard. “No, I can’t really be far from something that doesn’t exist, can I?” To some extent, it was true. He lived in the Warehouse, but even that was probably considerable as borrowed space. “Home is where the heart is, and right now that is simply wherever I go. I have no place to return to, not permanently. So I keep my life exciting.” True enough, though every once in a while he wouldn’t mind settling down and letting everything go. Grab one of those Gigai that slowly turn you into a human from Urahara and just live a simple life; but knowing all he knew, a simple life would just be so unsatisfying.
He could do so much better.
“As for why I’m here… curiosity?” He shrugged. “It’s not every day one sees a giant monster of a Hollow strolling through town, actively trying to avoid causing a commotion.” He thought about what he’d said for a moment. “No offense intended, you seem very unlike a monster. Just the appearance is a bit deceiving.” He paused for a moment. Abort mission! New topic! “I also figured with someone like you, Shinigami may show up soon, and try to cause a scene where there wasn’t one. Wouldn’t want that, now.”
Shinigami? The man spoke of them, and she presumed they were the ones that were human-like in shape, but could actually see others like her and have the weapons that allowed them to attack her? That didn't entirely sound like something that she'd like to have happen, and what were these 'monsters' that this person had mentioned. That much didn't entirely matter now, but she did want to reply to someone who could actually notice her and hadn't attacked her out of the blue. "No. I hate fighting. Are Shinigami fast? I could run..." She'd say, looking at the person before looking around her, making sure there wasn't anyone else that was just standing there and staring at her, though she couldn't tell exactly from every angle, so she had to just hope that she wasn't being watched outside of the person she was currently talking to. At least this person was one that didn't just attack her for no reason even though she was doing her best to stay out of trouble and all. Well, she'd wait until the person had responded before continuing much of anything because she wanted to see if this person could answer the question she raised.
“A pleasant surprise,” Hidane said, if not one that he hadn’t predicted. Surely a Hollow of this size that was going out of her way to avoid crushing anything underneath them wasn’t a big fan of conflict, but that wouldn’t matter when the Shinigami came to deal with the “problem” when they catch wind of her Reiatsu. No doubt it would only be minutes now, though to be fair their response time wasn’t always the best, thus leading to him and the others he’d met in this town ending up needing to clean up the messes they arrive too late to.
Are Shinigami fast? I could run…
“No need for that, I could use some company that isn’t on a violent rampage for a change.” He let out a sigh at the truth of that statement. “If any of them show up, I’ll deal with it. Not kill them, of course, that’s my style. But I won’t let them attack you or cause any trouble either.” He glanced around, but couldn’t feel any Reiatsu. “I’m not like them; I don’t attack people for what they are. I decide my actions based on what they do. And, despite being a Hollow, you seem to have no intention of causing any trouble, so I have no problem with you, and would gladly stand up to any Shinigami that try to cause trouble for you.”
He stood on the edge of the rooftop he was standing on, and bowed slightly.
“The name’s Hidane Asuka Koga, local Visored. That is, part Shinigami, part Hollow. And I act of my own free will, not by the laws of Shinigami or Hollow.”
Ai listened as the man spoke, saying that it was a surprise that she hated fighting. She'd slightly tilt her head as she was curious about this man, but as she continued with her question, she'd be somewhat surprised herself at the mans response. He stated that there wouldn't be any need for her to run, and that he could use some company that wasn't on a violent rampage for a change. He'd continue to state that if any had showed up that he'd deal with them, but not kill them. That was possible? The man would add on that he wouldn't let them attack her or cause any trouble. Stating that he wasn't like them, not attacking things for what they were and decided to act based on what they did. This one was different from any of the others that she had ever seen, let alone talk to.
Saying that her, despite being a hollow, had no intention of causing trouble and that he had no problem with her and would even stand up against any Shinigami that would try and cause trouble for her. Watching the man, he would stand on the edge of the rooftop he had been standing on and bowed towards her before introducing himself and what he was. "Free?" She'd ask, tilting her head to the other side as she looked at Hidane. "Would I ever be free... from this hunger...?" She'd ask him, as he'd probably know more than she did. "I was called Ai by someone I met some time ago." She'd say after a few moments.
"As I've said, I hate fighting, but there are times I can't help but be mean to things."
Hidane slowly walked towards the corner of the rooftop, placing one foot in front of the other slowly, hands resting behind his head as he listened to the gargantuan Hollow speak, watching it… her… closely. Her words seemed genuine enough. Hard to believe that a Hollow of her level had her nature so well under control, but as she stated herself, complete subjugation of it at this level was a near impossible thing, if it was possible at all. All he could offer her was a friendly smile, and whatever information he could remember from the archives of the Gotei. He may be part Hollow, but he didn’t have to deal with many of the problems that they dealt with in their evolutionary cycle.
“Well, as a Shinigami originally, my knowledge is limited to what we had available in the Shinigami archives which is… subject to some margin of error,” Hidane began, “but I’ve heard the transformation into a Vasto Lorde class ends a Hollow’s need to continuously devour souls… eliminates their hunger. Unfortunately, that process means likely diving deeper into your Hollow nature than I can imagine you ever having done before.” He paused for a moment, thinking. “There is… another way, though the Gotei didn’t have any record of how it’s done, nor do I know personally from my experiences since leaving them…”
Out of the corner of his eye he caught a slip of movement some number of blocks away, and within moments he could feel them; three sources, Reiatsu moving closer at a quick but not altogether impressive pace. Shinigami, at a level that could give Ai trouble… that is, if he weren’t around.
“A pleasure to meet you, Ai. Now, I don’t mean to alarm you…” A loud crack signified his Sonido carrying him to the next rooftop over, placing him slightly past Ai but not out of her view if she turned her head, but closer to the approaching Shinigami, from whom he hid his Reiatsu entirely. “…but it would appear as though we have company.”
