A wildfire raged through the kidocorp burning anyone that dared come close. Curses and insults like the hottest flames, the small redhead didn't care who felt her wrath. It was their fault for igniting her. "I'm good enough to be a captain just like anyone else!" She ranted and raved as she wandered about aimlessly. "I know lots of kido and my zanpakutou is strong. I did everything I was supposed to. Everything! I listened to orders, I trained hard, I stopped hurting people due to collateral damage. Why can't I be in the running for being a captain? Hitsguya-taichou is young and he didn't have his bankai mastered before becoming one."
The more she raged, the hotter the hallways became. While she did practice to control her abilities, even going as far as starting training towards bankai, Natsuko never quite stopped being a liability. If anything set her off, there was a chance that exactly this would happen. She simply couldn't control her temper. She lacked the maturity that came with age. Her cousins were always sure to remind her of that. Be it her height, age, or destructive abilities, they often downplayed her capabilities.

"Uwaaaaa!" Junta Nishikawa, unranked Gopher in the Kido Corps, skidded around a corner. The Kido Corps building was a large rectangle, structured like an old Sengoku Era castle. Within there was a large central courtyard or garden, around which were the four wings. Junta had been in the East wing when he had felt the heat rising and rising. It had only been when Natsuko had rounded the corner that he had thought to run, (Junta was not that bright) and his first point of call had been to run to get the Soshi. He wagered the Kido Corps buildings were the most well fortified of all the buildings in soul society what with the myriad layers of enchantments that were placed upon them and reinforced all the time. The fiery little redhead was known for having a bad temper, it was only because she was relatively powerful that they kept her around, they figured.
Either way, he knew the way toward the Soshi's office and so he ran as fast as his legs could carry him towards there, hoping that she would be able to quiet the girl down so that she didn't accidentally set fire to the library or something along those lines. When he arrived, not wanting to waste any time, he simply yanked open the office door.
"M- M- Mistress-" he panted, sweat dripping down his brow. "Mistress Blod-sama!" eventually he managed to finish addressing her, accompanying it with a particularly florid and pathetic bow. "It's- it's Natsuko-san, Mistress Blod-san! She's gone wild!" he dropped to his knees and began sobbing, concerned as he was about what exactly his punishment would be for breaking into the office of the most senior shinigami he knew personally.

lodeuwen had been listening to some record on a modified vinyl record player in her office and doing paperwork when her door had been ripped open. The state of Junta and his dramatic entrance rather amused her, the record scratching to a halt for extra melodrama. It helped that the paperwork was especially dull and so a distraction was more than welcome. She also didn't worry that something had especially gone wrong, Junta never told her about that, it was always some Jigokucho. When he fell to his knees talking about Natsuko Blod rolled her eyes. Honestly. She had seen so much promise in the fiery little redhead, but it was just temper, temper, temper with her. She wondered how the best way would be to approach this.
"Thanks Junta, you go and take a break now." she told him softly, with a smile. She stood to her feet, her purple cloak fluttering as she did so, and walked out of the room. As her reiatsu faded, the record player would resume playing songs from Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado". She walked through the corridors of the Kido Corps' headquarters. It was easy for her to follow Natsuko's reiatsu, she was exerting it after all. Blodeuwen suppressed her own spiritual pressure such that the young shinigami would not sense her coming.
As such she was able to hear much of Natsuko's rant. So this was about becoming a captain of the Gotei 13? As far as Blodeuwen was aware, there were not really any positions available at that moment. Was she complaining at having passed over after the arrancar-war? Blodeuwen was certain that even if now she possessed the strength to be in the running (which she highly doubted), then back then she hadn't. She would come up behind Natsuko, silent as she could be, her reiatsu hidden, until she was just a few steps away.
"Who is stupid, Natsuko?" she asked, smiling sweetly.
The Soshi's presence went unnoticed until she spoke. Of course, having her commanding officer suddenly appear immediately snuffed out the flame. Natsuko turned, bowing promptly and courteously, just as she'd been trained to do over the years. "I'm sorry Mistress, I didn't mean to cause a ruckus." She was being truthful for once. She didn't exactly mean to cause any trouble, she was just rattled. When Natsuko was rattled, it often turned into bouts of uncontrollable anger. During so, there were few people who could actually stop her. Fortunately, Blod was one of them.
"I honestly don't know if I should be talking about it openly. It's supposed to be a secret until we actually get an answer from the rest of the gotei." Natsuko looked around debating whether or not she could let the information slip. She already was overheard ranting. "Well, our family is looking to..." She paused, making sure nobody else could overhear the specifics. "We want to potentially earn a captain position in the Gotei. We've been growing pretty well, our reputation that is. Also, we have some pretty powerful shinigami, myself included. It would be a big deal if there was a captain with our name."

single blonde eyebrow arched upwards. Didn't mean to cause a ruckus, eh? She found that hard to believe. She folded her arms, sighing. What was she going to do with Naoko? She didn't exactly enjoy handing out indiscriminate punishments, but then again, she reasoned that her punishments were always pretty reasonable. They were always constructive, never destructive. Junta had seemed pretty scared, and for a shinigami with Naoko's strength to go around flaring her reiatsu like that indoors, there had to be consequences.
"Sorry you may be, but you should know better by now. Come on Naoko, I expect more from you. I'm putting you down at the top of the list for Realm Boundary Fixation duty, and next week you can go and help Aoi on butterfly duty." she said. Realm Boundary Fixation was horrendously tiring, and often took a good while to fully recover from the effects of the serious drain of one's stamina. It was a difficult job, and one that many members of the Kido Corps dreaded doing, but it was the duty of all unranked members of the Corps. Butterfly duty wasn't particularly difficult, most shinigami simply found doing nothing but watching Jigokucho boring, and Aoi's attitude that it was the best thing in the universe tended not to help with that.
Blodeuwen frowned. This... This sounded like politics. She cringed internally. She didn't usually get involved with this type of thing. She was lucky in that she was the "jewel of Hirashi house" when it came to status, but "the adopted daughter" when it came to getting involved in any of that stuff. As a result the mere thought of it gave her a bit of a headache. Nonetheless she felt that there was something quite wrong with Naoko's statement. Given a captain position? Blodeuwen was certain that that wasn't quite how things worked.
"Does becoming a captain of a squad in the 13 court guard squads not require... Well, is the captain position not given to the shinigami who is most worthy on an individual basis? When a position was made available, for whatever reason, would it not be the shinigami that the other captains and the captain commander saw was most fit for the job that was promoted? After all, the Gotei 13 keep us all safe," Blodeuwen almost winced as she said that, "so it is our duty to ensure that only someone who is capable of undertaking the task is chosen." she lectured. She wondered if Naoko would erupt into rage again; that would be the first test she supposed.
As soon as Blood started her response, Natsuko flinched. She was going to be punished, again. Likely another mindless and tiring task that "All kido corp members were responsible for" as Blod would say. She'd lost count of how many times she was forced into learning from her mistakes. Her reiatsu was dangerous, it needed to stay in control at all times. Did they forget how she used to be? Before she mastered her shikai, she was little more than an unstable explosive. You could point her at the enemy, but all of her allies needed to run for cover. "Yes Mistress," she growled her acceptance of the punishment.
"Well," Natsuko continued the conversation. "I don't know everything about it. The main family won't tell us all the details. We were told to just put our best foot forward. But I guess I'm not being considered anyway because I'm not worthy of their stupid positions." Her reiatsu flared for a moment but quickly snuffed out due to her proximity to Blod. "I'm sorry. I just don't get it. I'm plenty strong and I could lead people. You would trust me as a captain wouldn't you?"

lod smiled sweetly, satisfied that her punishment was sufficiently vexing for the young shinigami. Punishing Aoi for any of his misdeeds was... Frankly, difficult. Natsuko on the other hand was much easier to place into situations she disliked, that kind of thing was easier to find out when someone had such a temper. Either way, she was curious to see what Natsuko would say. Blodeuwen frowned though. If she made some misstep here it could potentially prove problematic for inter-familial relations somewhere down the line. She had to make sure not to be too harsh, otherwise there could be repercussions. Usually, being in the top position meant that one was able to easily resolve all power struggles by exerting one's authority. But when it came to blood... Well, such quarrels were never solved so easily.
She absentmindedly pulled at one of her long bangs as she heard Natsuko's explanation. With a gesture, she indicated that they should walk and talk, leading Natsuko slowly back through the corridors of the Kido Corps Shiro. She wasn't sure if she really didn't know, or if they were simply not permitted to tell outsiders. Functionally, it made very little difference. And then Natsuko asked the question that would make this difficult. While resolving power struggles was easy as a leader, ensuring that one's subordinates had confidence in one's leadership and more importantly, ensuring that one was seen to have confidence in one's subordinates skills was key. She hesitated for a moment, giving a pensive 'hmm' as she chose her words with exceptional care.
"Well Natsuko, trust in one's leader is earned, not freely given. It may seem challenging having to prove yourself to your family and to the 13 Court Guard Squads but none of that will be as challenging as proving yourself to the shinigami serving under you. Every captain I have spoken to in depth on the matter would agree. That having been said... You have come a long way. Incidents like today..." she said with another frown and a gesture at the scorched halls, "Show that perhaps you aren't quite ready. But that does not mean you will never be, and it also does not mean that your progress should not be recognised. Keep that temper in check," she tapped Natsuko's head with a slender white finger, "and that spiritual pressure," she tapped her soul sleep, "and perhaps they will make a taicho of you yet." she said with a smile. At this point, she pushed open the doors, leading them out into the succulent spring air.
She paused to consider. Indeed, she weighed up the pros and cons of what she was about to do in her head before ultimately deciding that it would be acceptable and that realistically, she only had herself to answer to.
"In terms of strength I know you are great, Natsuko. But how great? How well can you channel all of that energy of yours when the need is high? Strike me with the strongest Hado you have learned. Don't worry about harming me, give it your best shot, use the full incantation." Blodeuwen said with a grin. Many who had been offered this opportunity took it up with vigor that she found delightful. There was nothing quite like taking one's pent up rage out upon one's supervisor.
Following behind Blod, she listened to everything she had said. Blod had a way of making sense of the situation without it being too complicated. She also had a way of skirting around the true meaning of her words without Natsuko becoming wise. There were times that Natsuko suspected she was being lied to, sweet talked into calming down because some still considered her a livewire. However, she trusted Blod mostly, sometimes more than her family.
Blod's response was exactly what someone would expect from a leader. She didn't do anything that would harm Natsuko's confidence, but she didn't allow her to think more of herself. It would be very dangerous if a shinigami overvalued their own skills. It was doubly dangerous for Natsuko. Still, she grumbled as they walked, having no choice but to accept what Blod was saying. If she wanted to ever become a captain, she had a ways to go in both her strength and maturity. She rolled her eyes and cursed under her breath. "I didn't really want to be a captain anyway. Stupid Gotei."
Just as Natsuko was going to accept what was said, Blod had to really push the envelope. Yes, Natsuko was strong enough to hold her own with most shinigami, but she wasn't dumb enough to deal with captains and their lieutenants. "Um... You want me to use a kido... on you?" Hell no, was the response she wanted to give, but she couldn't disobey an order. "Fine."
Natsuko took a few steps back before taking a deep breath. No matter what the outcome of this was, she was going to be the loser. "Here I go," she said as he grabbed hold of her wrist on the outstretched arm. "Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, The sea barrier surges, March on to the south!" While she spoke the incantation, a glowing orb formed in her palm. It was oddly well formed for someone who was known to have temper issues. As the incantation was finished, the orb launched directly into Blod. While it wasn't the highest kido she knew, it was the one she was most comfortable with and could fully utilize its destructive power. Blod taught them even the simplest kido could be devastating when used properly.

lodeuwen couldn't help but smile at Natsuko's dismissal. She herself wasn't best pleased with the Gotei 13 at the present moment. In fact she had a meeting with the Captain-Commander coming up and he didn't sound best pleased. As if the attack on Karakura Town was something that could realistically have been prevented by a single shinigami. As if Arashi Byakurai's betrayal was something she could have prevented. Blod wagered that after the defection of a Taicho-class shinigami and a fifth seat nonetheless, they would be very careful about who they chose for captaincy if it even came up in the near future, not that Blodeuwen could see any reason it would.
"Yes and I want only your best." Blod responded at Natsuko's hesitation. It was often the case that shinigami didn't want to pelt their superiors with kido, but it was only through feeling the spell that she could really, truly grasp the intricacies of its construction. It didn't take long for the redhead to begin her assault. Blodeuwen prepared her reiatsu, and held a hand up to catch the shot of red fire. She slid backwards a few centimeters, her hand stinging from the impact. It was impressive, very impressive. For such a low strength kido, it packed significant punch. However, that wasn't quite enough for what Blodeuwen had in mind.
"Fantastic, Natsuko." she said, stepping from the smoke, unscathed. "Good use of Hado 31. In future, stating the name and number of the Kido further helps to form the reiryoku the right way, but it seems it wouldn't make much difference in this case. I know that isn't the highest numbered Kido you know, however. Why don't you show me what you can do with Hado 73?" she asked with a smile, intending to push Natsuko as far as she could.
"Tch," her tongue clicked against her teeth. Of course Blod would notice her restraint on the kido. Why wouldn't she know? The other's in the kido corps, the less studied members, they wouldn't have realized that refraining from speaking the name also weakened the kido. It would have been enough to simply say the incantation and they would have been wowed by her strength. To make matters worse, Blod was also aware of the kido she had learned beyond that one.
"Seventy-Three," she said in a questioning tone. Yeah, she knew and could perform it relatively well. This was exactly what she thought would happen. No matter what she did, Blod would make her appear weak, scold her for holding back, and all around ruffle her feathers. Two of those may have been unintentional, though the message was clear to Natsuko. "Alright," she said as she prepared the next kido.
"Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! On the wall of blue flame, inscribe a twin lotus. In the abyss of conflagration, wait at the far heavens. Hado no Nanajūsan, Sōren Sōkatsui!"
As with her first kido, another flame burst from her palm, but without forming an orb. It was similar to a hollow's cero, a destructive beam that destroyed anything in its path until it exploded when its energy was fully obstructed. Even if it didn't harm Blod, without Blod's interference, the explosion would easily damage their surroundings. This may have been one of the reasons Natsuko had her reputation.
'Hold on just a little longer,' she thought to herself. While she was able to bring out the full strength of the kido, controlling it was something different entirely.

Blodewen ignored Natsuko's disappointment with her insight. The only issue with Natsuko was that she was more expressive of the same emotions that everyone else felt. Blod didn't feel exactly qualified enough in dealing with people to know how best to get her to find healthier ways of venting the strain the trials of everyday life put on her. While Natsuko seemed quizzical about the number of the Hado, Blodeuwen knew that she could perform the spell, and Natsuko knew better than to attempt to lie or hide it from Blodeuwen. Blodeuwen steeled herself. This time, she would use a bakudo, not to defend herself, as much as to block and disperse the impact of the attack that was coming her way.
"Bakudo 65, Yottsuyoko Kurokeishu." Blodeuwen cast, and the dark rectangle formed in front of her instantly, at a fourty five degree angle. As such when the beam struck it, the resulting explosion would be angled upwards, away from the Kido Corps Shiro, and also away from Natsuko herself. After a few moments, the smoke would clear, the barrier disappearing as quickly as it had formed. Blodeuwen looked at Natsuko and smiled.
"Natsuko. Well done." she said, with a smile. "I am... Satisfied with your progress. I didn't expect you to be able to use this kido at full power. You need to work on your control; that will come with a better ability to control your temperament. If you do not wish to be a Taicho, so be it. However, if you would like a promotion within the Kido Corps then listen well. The next time I speak to you, I would like you to demonstrate your ability to control this kido. And I would like to see you master another..." She paused to ponder. The challenge she aimed to set Natsuko was not something she expected her to complete easily, but it would certainly show how much she wanted this. "Hmm, I wonder. Yes. Hado 94, Shourinereto." she said, with a note of satisfaction. This was the type of kido that if a shinigami lost focus and lost their cool while performing it, there would be serious repercussions. It was the perfect measure not merely of strength, but of self-control. "In addition to this, I would like to see you create a hado of similar strength to Shourinereto. This may seem like a monumental task, however there are many scrolls and textbooks in the library to guide you. If you complete these tasks to my satisfaction, you will be promoted to Hado Branch Operator." Blodeuwen said, seriously. Below Vice-Kidocho and Soshi, it was the highest rank within the Kido Corps and came with immeasurable respect and authority, almost the same as a Taicho of the Gotei 13. If Natsuko had been dubious that the tasks that she had been set were too hard, she would now understand the necessity of setting the bar so high. But the fact that Blodeuwen had given her the opportunity, meant that she believed Natsuko to be capable of it; that much would hopefully also be apparent to the little red-head. "Aside from anything else, that means no more butterfly duty, and no Realm Boundary Fixation." she said with a little giggle.
Natsuko was admittedly relieved when Blod defended against the attack. Both because she didn't want to get in trouble for following orders and it gave her a window to hide her own inability. Using that kido was powerful, but it was taxing. She could get a similar, albeit not as devastating effect from a much lower kido on the list. She sighed a breath of relief when she finished her casting.
"Thanks," she grinned nearly from ear to ear. She absolutely nailed that casting and was ready for her praise, but Blod burst that balloon before it sailed into the sky. Now pouting, Natsuko nodded along to all of Blod's criticism. Control her temper and controlling kido would be easier. The same damn lecture she always got in the end. However, this time came with a new twist. "I'm listening."
Learning how to properly control the kido was something she planned to do without being. Mastering other kido also went hand in hand with her gaining strength. The kido corps wasn't the eleventh divison. "Hado what?!" Blod was out of her mind. Natsuko was gifted, and she did like to boast, but she wasn't foolish enough to overreach... at least not too far. Not only did she want her to use a higher level kido, but to create one of her own. This was madness. "You mean you want me promoted in the kido?" There was a mix of emotion more turbulent than a lightning storm. She both wanted the job and was terrified of what it meant, more so the tasks needed to get it. Although, getting out of the other mundane tasks was well worth the effort.
"Right!" She nodded and pumped her fist. "I'll go get on it right away. I'll master these kido so fast it will make your head spin."

t hadn't been Blodeuwen's intention to steal the praise away so quickly. She frowned slightly as she explained. A slight miss-calculation. It must be disheartening for all praise to be sullied, and she took Natsuko's pout as a sign that her leadership skills were lacking. She had to be more compassionate, more empathetic to her subordinates' emotional. However, the dangled reward did its trick well enough. She appeared scared at first; as she should be, given the monumental scale of the task she had been set. The shock prompted her to exclaim, which made the smile upon the Soshi's face widen. She nodded in response to Natsuko's question. Hopefully this would give the young shinigami cause to learn how to focus her mind, and make her a more valuable asset to the shinigami. If she got to be a Taicho? Good for her. If not, Blodeuwen was sure that such a fiery little spirit would make a fine Hado Operator. She seemed to have the raw spirit for it, regardless.
"Good, I like your zeal. Report back to me when you are ready." she said, and with that, she bowed slightly to her subordinate, before striding off back into the Shiro building, to return to whatever work she had been getting on with.
