It had been a long day, Ness's feet ached. She was riding the train back towards the part of town she lived in. There appeared to be a fair number of Karakura high students hanging around, possibly after a field trip or maybe they were just going home or something like that. Ness was glad, at least, that they also wore uniforms. It made her feel less self-conscious about her own Super-Yuki uniform that she wore. She had recently gotten a little tired of people asking her why a "young, pretty woman" like her was only working as a store clerk as opposed to going to university and making something of herself. She would smile and wave it off, and explain that she wasn't smart enough for all that, but inside it could be quite demoralizing. She continued her people watching from her seat on the train, looking at the collection of students. She recalled a red-headed boy that she knew to be a student at the school but her memory was hazy as to exactly why he was. She looked at one girl who appeared to have long silver hair, and cocked her head. Something about her looked somewhat familiar but Ness couldn't exactly remember what that was.

WORDS TAGS NOTES LYRICS W/E ? | Kyoko looked out the window, watching the town go by with a general sense of unease. She was still very unsure what was happening and wouldn't get answers anytime soon. It wasn't as if she could just ask a shinigami why they were after her and she doubted they would answer if she did. They would capture her or worse. While she felt confident enough to flee, constantly running for her life would quickly become tiring. Did shinigami even get tired? Seran lazed about and appeared to sleep at times, but he wasn't actually doing so. It was all part of his persona or so she had gathered.
She peered over her shoulder, checking to see if any shinigami entered the train before they started moving. Nobody paid her any mind, having conversations on the phone or with people they entered with. However, there was one that seemed to have taken a special notice to her. It wasn't obvious. It could have just been paranoia getting the best of her, but it was only natural given her situation. She returned to facing forward as casually as possible. If they were onto her here, she had to think of ways to fight without hurting anyone else. All she needed to do was survive until the next stop.

The girl looked more than a little jumpy. She guessed there was enough precedent for girls getting groped or otherwise sexually assaulted on trains young girls always did well to be careful. Still, it somewhat depressed Ness that someone so young could have such a cynical worldview. She idly imagined some other reasons that the girl might be wanting to avoid others at that particular moment. The possibilities were, quite frankly, endless in all reality. And most of them were far less dark than the grim reality Ness had first imagined for the girl. She stared into the middle distance as she considered her machinations, her soul and Kyoko's inextricably linked for the brief moment they had simultaneously considered one another. It was a connection that would soon be lost to the wind and fade away forever.
Ness was snapped out of her machinations as she saw a pen rolling towards her on the floor as they rounded a bend. Muscles aching, she slowly and carefully bent down to retrieve it before leaning across the aisle, holding it out to Kyoko. The seats on this train faced one another across the aisle like many Japanese overground and underground trains did and so this was relatively easy for Ness to do.
"Did you drop this?" she asked in a warm, husky voice the pen still proffered to the schoolgirl.

WORDS TAGS NOTES LYRICS W/E ? | Kyoko was startled by the girl leaning over to offer her a pen. She nearly jumped from her seat and summoned her blade. If she acted first without holding back, her chances of survival doubled. It was just like her war games. Hit the enemy hard and fast, don't give them time to gauge your strength or adjust to it. Even if you failed to kill the opponent, you'd have the easiest time crippling them at the onset of battle. However, it was just a pen, not a sword being brandished at her.
"Oh uh," she scrambled to form a disarming and natural response. "Thank you. It must have fallen out of my pocket."
That would have been perfectly feasible if she weren't wearing a skirt. She could have met her shirt pocket, but anyone would have noticed something falling from there. Upon realizing her mistake, she searched the girl's face for anything betraying her intent. She looked calm enough, maybe even friendly. Although appearances were deceiving.
"The pocket on my bag I meant." Kyoko chuckled to clear the air, taking the pen and shoving it into the side pocket of her bag.

Ness smiled as Kyoko jumped. What a flighty kid. No thoughts of disarming the enemy, or killing, or anything came to Ness's mind. Kyoko was kinda cute, Ness considered as the girl fell over her words a little. She kept up her smile, and continued to hold the pen, offering it up to Kyoko. She could tell that she was being scanned, read to see if she meant to do any harm. That gesture was universal and even Ness, who knew nothing of spirits and supernatural threats could tell that. Ness chuckled slightly as the silver haired girl prevaricated in order to explain the origin of the mystery pen. Kyoko put it in her bag and Ness looked up out of the window. Her stop. She got to her feet wearily, the laughter having faded to a light smile. Ness was looking forward to a cup of tea with some honey and a nice long shower to soak the ache out of her muscles before an hour of listening to the Oricon charts and taking stuff she liked, and then bed. Gosh she was such an old lady. Oh well. At least she had some peace and quiet.
"See you around kid, get home safe." Ness said to Kyoko over her shoulder as she shuffled off of the train. Doors had opened both sides so this was was the perfect getaway opportunity for Kyoko if this was her stop. Otherwise she would be left once more on her lonesome as Ness went home to her simple, peaceful life.
