Cyrell had arrived. Travel from Hokkaido wasn't particularly strenuous. She could choose pretty much wherever she wanted to go by making her garganta just right, and by doing so travelling through the human world took next to no time at all. It also allowed her base to remain hidden and fortified. She had heard about this site on the information grapevine, the only grapevine worth speaking of, really. There had been a battle here between a vasto lorde class hollow, two vasto lorde class arrancar, two post-captain level shinigami, two captain level shinigami, a post-captain level Quincy, Ichigo Kurosaki, who seemed to be classed in a strength tier of his own, as well as other combatants who were less important. What was important was the fact that such enormous amounts of reiatsu clashing would mean the presence of a new type of material that Cyrell had discovered.
Reiatsu tempered steel. It was fairly simple; pressure was merely a single method in a plural arsenal the material scientist possessed to treat a resource to change its properties. And if that pressure was spiritual pressure... That in itself was a totally different matter alltogether. Cyrell wasn't one-hundred percent sure if anyone else knew about reiatsu tempered steel.
As a result she didn't think that anyone else would have bothered harvesting it. It was in fact, however, a fairly valuable resource and one she did not like to overlook. In the umm, or Universal Material Metric scheme, Cyrell calculated that the two shinigami, the vasto lorde class hollow and one of the vasto lorde class arrancar would be worth 0.4umm each, for a total of 1.6umm. The quincy and other vasto lorde class arrancar would be worth 0.3umm each; which interested Cyrell as it indicated that the particular Vasto Lorde class hollow was much stronger than average, given that it outranked even an arrancar of the same base hollow evolution. That brought the total up to 2.2umm. Ichigo Kurosaki, she guessed, would be worth roughly 0.5umm if he had at all activated his mask powers, or 0.4 otherwards, bringing the conservative estimate up to 2.6umm. In reality there was more likely to be 3umm, of which Cyrell realistically expected to be able to actually gather 2umm. Stepping down from her garganta she looked around. Indeed, the place had been quite well patched up since that incident, and as a result she might have to cause some destruction.
As an Arrancar, Cyrell didn't find any particular difficulty in destroying stuff. Firstly, however, she would need to find the Reiatsu-Tempered Steel. She had performed theoretical calculations as to its composition; precise values for its dielectric and conductive co-efficients at various values of energy for electromagnetism, as well as its spiritual signature, as in fact a reiatsu detector of sufficient fineness could detect it. One thing she had noted was that the formation of Reiatsu-Tempered Steel needed a "seed" in the theoretical framework. The prediction she had was that she would likely find it clumped like ore, and would not have to melt down the entirety of the steel. Upon setting her Scanner to scan for materials with the properties of Reiatsu-Tempered Steel, she found this hypothesis to be correct. There were six different sites where the ore existed. Most of them were in manhole covers and lampposts, though one was ingrained into the steel of a building. Cyrell set to work firstly on the manhole covers. Firstly, she identified a site, and retrieved her zanpakuto. Nothing was as hard as a zanpakuto, and so it was easy for her to roughly cut out the shape of the reiatsu-synthesized steel. She then repeated this with all of the other sources but for the building.
At the building, she, with a sigh, realized she would have to break her non-interventionalist policy. To get the humans out of the way, she punched through a window. It was an office building, and the people inside were startled, and backed away. She strode in and effortlessly began upturning desks and firing random Bala everywhichway, not particularly caring if she hit people. Everyone screamed and ran at this point, letting her go back to the corner of the building, the pillar of which appeared to have another nugget of reiatsu-steel embedded inside it. She wondered how much the building's structural integrity relied upon this pillar... Now was the time to find out, she supposed. Drawing her zanpakuto back, she began to hack away at the corner. The paint and plaster were easy as were the electrical wires, despite her nearly getting a nasty shock. Then it came to the concrete which her zanpakuto sliced through like butter. The steel in the middle was no tougher and soon enough, she had dislodged a sizable chunk of the pillar, therein contained the material she was seeking. It was easy enough to pry off the concrete with her fingers and put the steel in her bag.
As the buildings creaked and the alarms were sounded, Cyrell decided that now would be a prudent time to make her exit. By tearing a hole in space, she created a Garganta, and swiftly stepped through it. After solidifying the ground beneath her feet with reiatsu, she ran through to Hueco Mundo, where she exited. Repeating the process put her back inside her workshop in Hokkaido, far away from any spiritual hotspots.
She quickly dropped her bag upon the desk and drew out the pieces of steel. She withdrew also her notepad and began to make meticulous notes on the process of what she had found, writing down several numbers she got up on the screen of her scanner. Afterwards, she removed the scanner. She toted up the properties of the steel, turning back to the relevant page of the notebook. How would she separate the good stuff from the crap? Simple. The melting point for this steel was much higher than regular steel.
Cyrell heated up the furnace. It was second nature to her now. The room got super warm, and she cracked a window, wiping her brow with a filthy cloth that was laying amongst a pile of metal shavings on a bench.
When the furnace was hot enough, Cyrell simply chucked the steel in. She didn't care about the offruns. All she wanted was the valuable spiritual material. Turning the glowing white lumps over several times, she allowed the normal steel to liquefy and run off, before removing the hot tempered reiatsu steel with a pair of tongs and dipping it in a cooling bucket several times, and placing it upon the metal part of her workbench. Once she had done this with all of the reiatsu tempered steel, she was pretty tired, and was drenched in sweat. She cut the airflow to the furnace, instantly cooling the room down and slumped in a chair.
What a pain in the ass. Still, she probed the steel with her reiatsu and it appeared to be the real deal. A second glance when she had recovered somewhat confirmed that the material was a solid lump of reiatsu-tempered steel. Even better than damascus steel. Take that! Now all she had to do was find some use for it, as she placed the now cool lumps of metal on a scale to weigh them up. She reckoned she'd gotten lucky, and had about 2.1umm of the stuff based on her measurements, all dutifully recorded in her stock journal.
Once it was weighed and catalogued it was put into a cabinet for storage.
