Gage falls from the sky, his prey below having put up an amazing fight but finally he has him narrowed down to a single body. This was a special hollow, a unique prey that demanded special attention. He had tracked it for days, following its trail of evidence marking that the hollow was indeed still hunting. Its own prey was evident, the trail of mid thirties women mauled and maimed in the sewers being the only form of bread crumbs. But he found them and the hunt has finally come to an end, Gage coming down with a descending pair of knees to the base of this hollows neck.
The one thing that made Gage want it more than other hollows currently on the books is that this hollows scales were made of a metal, something that he himself had not seen yet. During one of his days trailing it he happened across a scale knocked off when a bus struck it from the side, stopping the bus in its tracks and knocking the hollow over onto its side with little else on the hollow to show for it.
Disoriented the dust settles and Gage is now completely visible in the street light of the night. His suit, solid black with a few green glowing energy points on its edges, blends in with the dark almost seamlessly even though it was just a paint job. The suit itself was a series of metal plates layered in such a way to allow the most mobility. Opening his right hand a needle extends, sharp and connected to a small vial of light blue fluid. Driving the needle down he strikes the hide of the hollow, the metal needle stopping as it strikes one of the scales, no penetration possible with the natural armor that the hollow had.
Over his intercom Gage is almost startled by Lani speaking to him, her soft voice settling him quickly. Sir if I may. Previous videos show that spacing in the armor can be created when the hide is exposed to elemental damage. Gage grins, 'That is something that I can make happen.' With that Gage opens up his left hand jamming the thruster into the scales before igniting enough throttle to get him to almost lift off the ground, flames seeping in between the scales down to the skin where it instantly begins to cook flesh. Instinctively the hollow wakes back up, its body trying to buck off the source of the pain while at the same time raising its hackles so that the scales stick up like four inch knives. "There we go," Gage jams the needle into the flesh between two scales and injects the contents of his paralysis agent, the effects taking hold in just a few seconds.
"Okay Lani, send one of the trucks to get this thing," Gage hops up and off, the joints whining quietly as the motors actuate the limbs for him. "I want to start running tests on it as soon as I get back."

The street where he found the source of the Reiatsu was particularly dark. Taking precautions he knew were unnecessary, Hidane masked his Reiatsu as well as he could and skipped from rooftop to rooftop, getting closer to the source, the foul stench in the air. This one was violent, he could tell, the reek of death clinging to the air. This one would likely just have to be put down; scaring it back to Hueco Mundo didn’t seem to be an option, if any of the damage he’d seen earlier was any indication. A Shinigami envoy would probably be along soon, but he would make it there first. He almost always did. One job, and they can’t even do that right.
He came to a fairly high rooftop that had a good overlook on the Hollow; fairly large creature with what looked like metal plate-like scales covering its body. That was… unique, to say the least, though Hidane quickly located several weak points where he was sure Kurosenkou would have no trouble piercing to give an in to finish it off. He wondered if it would put up a fight; more than most, anyway.
Unfortunately for him, however, it seemed he had arrived just a few moments too late, as another being entered the fray, landing down on top of the Hollow. For a moment it seemed the skirmish would end hilariously quickly, and that Hidane would have to jump down and save this new guy, but flames erupted from his hand and the human, or so it seemed, quickly rendered the Hollow unable to move, without killing it. Intriguing, but dangerous. What was his goal here? Not something the Visored was about to pass up getting involved in, that was for sure. If it was for some sick, twisted game, or to manipulate the Hollow into causing more trouble down the line, he would have to put an end to the quickly. Waving his right hand towards the Hollow and human, he let out a small flurry of Bala. Not enough to injure anyone, but hopefully enough to force some space between the human and the Hollow.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” A quick Sonido would carry Hidane to the ground in the space he had just created. Almost ignoring the human, he turned to the Hollow, a hand resting on Kurosenkou’s hilt, ready to draw. “I have no idea what reason you might have for knocking a Hollow like this out, but don’t you think a quick, clean death is a better way to handle this kind of situation?” He turned back to the human with a grin.
If this guy was up to no good, the Visored would have to shut that down pretty quickly. But, if he had other goals in mind… well, then that would be something he would rather investigate thoroughly. But only time would tell.

HOVER FOR TECHNIQUE(S) USED
Name: Bala [Hollow Bullet] Class: Cero/Bala Tier: I Type: Offensive Range: 100 Meters Description: A weaker but quicker alternative to regular Cero blasts. The technique hardens the user's spiritual pressure and fires it at around twenty times the speed of a Cero.
Standing on the back of the beast with one knee planted on its back he uses his left hand to keep his balance, his hand holding onto the back of the neck where he was able to snake his fingers in between the scales. However the bucking fades to nothing, the body falling to the ground with its limbs sprawling out to the sides, massive clawed paws outstretched as it looses control of its body. It was done, the hunt finally tuning to a recovery job where he was to haul this...beast home somehow.
A tingling sensation on his neck though brings his mind out of the planning and back to the world around him. There was something, hiding in the dark, somewhere out there. Looking up and down the street Gage scans for anything, some kind of movement that would cue him into what was out there but he could get nothing. This sensation was similar to being able to see someone in your peripheral vision but losing sight of them when you turn to look directly at them. "Lani, scan the area." A beep marks the activation of internal sensors that begin to transition through filters on the screen; heat, infrared, X-ray, sonar and even reiatsu sensors all cycling through his HUD. Sir, I am sorry but the excess of energy on the streets from the hollow is making tracking trace energy levels impossible.
"Alright, then lets just get this wrapped up and get-" Gage feels his head knock down a bit as something strong and fast strikes him from above, the feeling of excess reiatsu washing over him as the bolts roll off his armor. Blow after blow it hits him but the suit does its job his body barely giving an inch, the servos whining slightly as he stands back up. "Ha, I knew it." His voice only sounded in his helmet, the armor containing the sound so that anything that he says is confined unless he wants it released. Looking up at the roof Gage is only able to catch a glimpse of it as it approaches, the Sonido taking it to stand right beside him before he is able to react.
Gage shakes his head, kneeling down and making a fist with his right hand. Springing out from beneath a metal plate on the arm a blade extends, over six inches long. Responding to the Shinigami he keeps his eyes on his work. "In most cases yes." Driving the blade up and in between two scales he digs around a bit under the right front shoulder until he feels the edge catch on a tendon. Lifting and pulling he feels the tendon snap, the muscle recoiling under the skin. "But what earns a peaceful death? Certainly nothing here, this particular beast has worked his way onto my workshop table and the Gotie can go find some other soul to save. It figures that you would be here so soon, the life of a demented hollow on the line while other souls die meaningless deaths for the sake of your ritualistic nonsense. What kind of response time is that? Two minuets? I have never seen the Gotie respond so quickly. Maybe you are actually getting your act together." With that Gage moves to the other side of the beast, aiming to cut the same tendon so that when it wakes it is unable to run.
Upon closer inspection, it looked like the man that had just succeeded in restraining this violent Hollow was wearing some sort of armor, or at least the framework for it. Rather unusual, in this time, the Visored thought; he’d only seen some contraptions like this in particular genres of movies and video games. The human didn’t seem particularly happy about him being there, especially under the assumption that he was an envoy of the Soul Society.
No, calling this one ‘human’ in particular was probably incorrect, though he couldn’t quite place where he’d felt these kinds of intricacies in a Reiatsu signature before.
“That’s a good one,” Hidane said, moving his hand from Kurosenkou’s hilt, “it’s been a while since anyone’s accused me of being one of the Gotei’s dogs. No, far from it, actually. The name’s Hidane Asuka Koga, former fifth seat of the Gotei’s Ninth Division, though that was some two decade ago, when I cut my ties with them. I’ve been living here since, keeping the peace as I am able in my own way.” He paused for a moment, bowing slightly with his introduction. “Though, in one way you are correct; I do, due to the nature of my being, possess a bit more… fondness, for Hollows than the dogs of the Gotei whose orders are to slaughter anything they deem enemies.” His hand moved back to Kurosenkou’s hilt as his eyes trailed over the captured Hollow.
“Don’t you think this soul has suffered enough? It has caused much destruction, but that is the nature of Hollows; the person this once was may have never wanted this.” His grin turned to a frown. “Prolonging this creature’s existence only lengthens its suffering, and the likeliness of it extending that suffering to others.” He turned his eyes back to the human. “I intend to end that. Unless you intend to stop me?” He drew Kurosenkou, resting the point of her blade on one of the Hollow’s scales, set to easily slide it in between into its neck and head depending on the human’s response.
Gage does not stop his work, popping the tendon before standing upright, the blade itself heating up turning the blood to ash before sheathing itself in his forearm. "Is that right? I never thought that the Gotie would let one of their own walk away alive. I always took them for the power mongering devils that killed anything that might challenge them." Inside the HUD a red target lock on trails over Hidane's hand, following it as it settles on the hilt of his blade. Beside the hilt a red 62% shows up designating the threat meter, showing that this man while not yet hostile was still a danger.
"I would think that its up to the living to decide when he has suffered enough. Do you know who he was in life? A monster in death is not always a monster in life but a monster in life? They ALWAYS end up as monsters in death and this Hollow is just a shadow of this man as he was in life." Putting his hand out Gage lets his armored palm get in between the hollows hide and the tip of the blade. His HUD lights up with warnings, telling him that he has some how placed his hand at the most dangerous end of the sword in the first few seconds of the interactions. "I do intend to stop you. This monster has something that I want and he has caused enough pain that he deserves a place on my table under my knife. Do you know who he was in life before he was a hollow?" Pushing up against the tip of the blade he stands, pushing the blade back to the owner Gage stepping down in between Hidane and his captured Hollow.
As the man before him spoke, it became increasingly clear the he was beginning to remind him of someone. It didn’t take long for the pieces to snap together in his head, and to realize that this man reminded him of Seran, which even the thought brought about an ache that he couldn’t quite describe. There was no physical pain, but… it felt like his mind was aching? He shook his head and got rid of the thought as the man placed his hand between Kurosenkou’s tip and the Hollow. A grin crossed Hidane’s face. Before the man could begin pushing back on his blade, he drew it to his side and sheathed it once more. He was beginning to get the feeling he wouldn’t end up having to fight here after all, though the guy’s attitude did piss him off some.
“Fair enough,” he said in response to the man’s logic, though he personally would still prefer just putting it down now, “besides, I like your guts.” He wondered how strong that armor of his was. “Though I do hope your facilities are good enough. I’d hate to see this one running around in the streets come morning.” He stepped back, letting out a long yawn, stretching his arms out. He was growing bored of this, and as much as he’d prefer just disposing of a dangerous Hollow, in all honesty the guy seemed to have it pretty well contained, though he wasn’t sure about later. If he had to be brought to this Hollow again, he wouldn’t take no for an answer a second time.
“Though I am curious,” he continued, turning back to the man and the Hollow, “what exactly is it that you seek from this big guy?”
Gage was ready for anything. He has faced Kido wielding shinigami capable of gout's of fire at the rate of a machine gun and bladed shinigami that wielded their blades that turn into skyscrapers. He did not however expect that the situation would deescalate, turning from the brink of a fist fight to that of an edged conversation, his new acquaintance grinning at him. He did not know how to take the mans compliment, looking left and right to make sure that he was not in fact being set up for an attack from behind. "UM, WELL THAT'S REASONABLE OF YOU."
Turning to the hollow he was ready to get it back to the shop, his table ached for his next experiment. Well at least as far as he could tell. While all souls were 'passive' being simply what they were built to be and wanting such his table has had its share of blood. As such this has somehow given it more 'personality' than he would have expected. The only reason that he would know this is because he has to use his Soul Communication on it, touching its soul so that he can get it to bind the subject. Through that momentary contact he is able to get its current emotion and that is most commonly the need to be in the middle of an 'experiment'.
Thoughts fade back to the current however and he responds. "Well this hollow origenally was just another thing on the streets to me but I came across this," as he has a small silvered scale in a glass vial pop out of a slot in his hip. Holding it out to the Shinigami he continues. "This scale caught my eye initially for its metallic like properties and a few quick tests have found that it is its own type of Ore. Something that I have never come across. I did not know what to make of it until I melted it down with a Reiryoku torch and then let it cool. I have yet to find anything that I own that can break it. There are a few things that can remelt it but while it is in its metal form it seems to be near indestructible. The best comparison that I can make of it that it might be the material that makes Arrancar Heirro so hard. With that material I might be able to find some way to replicate the heirro or at least find a more common way to combat it."
It felt odd, talking to someone who was talking through a metal suit. It seemed pretty advanced, and though he had no idea how strong it was, he could assume given the one wearing it that it wasn’t anything to play around against. Though at this moment, it didn’t seem to be a problem he would have to deal with. The situation had deescalated pretty quickly, and he didn’t really feel like picking a fight over something like this. He felt bad for the Hollow, but in the end, the man made a good argument for his case. Besides, his explanation seemed… interesting, to say the least. Hidane turned to the Hollow, letting a hand rest softly on one of the scales. It was hard, but he had doubts that it was anything like Hierro.
But then again, what did he know about it?
“Dang. I’m not the intellectual type, so I’ve no idea what these scales could have to do with Hierro,” Hidane said, impressed with the human’s reasoning, “but if you think you can use these scales to replicate it, that’s some impressive and useful stuff you’re doing there.” He paused for a moment, remembering his recent trip to Hueco Mundo. That would be incredibly useful, especially if there really is a war to come. He turned back to the human. But whose side would you be on?
“The name’s Hidane, by the way. Hidane Asuka Koga. I’m a Visored, not a Shinigami, for your information, and I try to keep peace in the area when I can.” He bowed slightly with his introduction. “And you are?”
Gage watched in silence as the Shinigami lowered his hand to the beasts side, the body letting out a settling sigh as the last of the tension in its body left. It was the most relaxed right now than it would have the chance to be in the next week. It had better take the most of that moment, Gage would see to it that the next week of its life before he wiped it away from the surface of the earth was a living nightmare. "It doesn't seem like much right now but I think that these scales could be a halfway point between heirro and hollow hide. If I can identify the evolutionary difference and see how this scale happened to develop into what it is we might be able to replicate the process and make a Heirro replacement that is just as strong. Just think about the applications, the amount of lives that could be save here in the human world just because they happened to be armed to fight this kind of threat." Gage reaches up and pushes a button on the side of his helm, the mask retracting and the helm opening up and sliding down onto his back in pieces.
"I am Gage," bowing in return he smiles,"I am just a mechanic, I tinker here and there but my only goal is to fix what Soul Society cant keep their eyes on. Right now that is a hollow threat."
A mechanic, eh? He supposed it sounded like he had better intentions than Seran, if nothing else. To be using methods like this to develop better means to protect those targeted by Hollows; the Visored wasn’t quite sure how he felt about the methods, but the intentions were good at least. He supposed that in the end nobody was perfect, and there were bound to be some lines that needed to be crossed. He personally intended to hold out as long as he could before crossing those lines himself, but he couldn’t fault others for doing what they thought was right. Who was he to tell others what was right or wrong of them to do, anyway? He would go forward in his own way, and others would in theirs. That was just the way of the world.
Luckily, Gage seemed to be the sort that wouldn’t conflict with him going forward. But really, what did he know about this guy yet?
“Well, nice to meet ya, Gage.” He stretched his arms, looking around. The Hollow was handled, and it seemed he was no longer needed here. “Well, if things are all settled here then, I ought to be on my way. Places to be, things to do, and such.”
"Nice to meet you too," Gage hand reaches out and returns the firm handshake with a meek grin. He was not sure how to take the current situation, for the most part Shinigami were aggressive, their minds being more 'its my way or the highway' and the like. "I don't interact with Shinigami very often but I have to say that this was at least mildly pleasant, after you put your blade away that is." Gage turns back to his haul, pulling a thin cable from his right forearm to begin binding this beast.
"I can't imagine what could drag someone away from this. Everything that was normal just seems so trivial now, the world being full of dead things an all." He was not lying, the world being overshadowed in its droning of traffic, taxes, bills and errands. How could anyone that has been exposed to the secrets that lay underneath the boiling cesspool of reality ever just think about their taxes and when the last time that they went out for a regular date? Maybe with time and a reality check he would get to the point where he may be able to handle reorienting himself with the natural human world once more.
“Well, I’m glad the experience was… not horrible?” Hidane let out a light chuckle at that. “Trust me, I know the feeling all too well. Shinigami can be really irritating sometimes.” He turned back to the Fullbringer and stopped. Everything that was normal? So at least this guy did have a normal life at some point, though seemed completely swept up in his current way of things. It seemed so odd to Hidane; how those like him, born almost expecting to end up following this kind of path through life, could be so different from humans, born completely and utterly unimportant, and thus capable of anything; and to be thrust out of that life and into the mix of politics and violence that was the constant war of the Shinigami and the other spiritual races.
It must have been… devastating, in some way, but also unimaginably exciting to humans.
“On the contrary, to those of us who have lived decades… centuries… like this, the things you humans call ‘normal’ could be more interesting than anything. Though, that isn’t to say that I don’t get myself involved in things of this nature whenever they come up; I just find both sides of my life equally satisfying, just in different ways.” He offered a friendly smile. “To be honest, when you started talking about your plans for this Hollow, I figured you’d be just like this other guy I know. Real uptight guy, can’t stand him. But you seem alright.” He paused for a moment. “I was wondering where this workshop of yours is? If I come across anything interesting, I probably won’t know what to do with it, and would prefer handing it over to you than to the other guy I mentioned.”
Gage laughed. There were few people in his field, the R and D field that is. It was a bit of a tight knit community, where secrets outside of your work are few and far in between. He was either talking about Cyrell or what ever the name of that Arrancar was or he was talking about Seran, definitely an anus clencher of a man...thing...he was a Mod Soul so pseudo man at least. "You wouldn't happen to be talking about Seran would you? I have met with a few times and he is...a bit tense, I agree. He doesn't mean bad but...he certainly doesn't mean well either. At least as far as I can tell."
Pressing a button on his hip the suit opens up in the front, splitting down the middle letting Gage step out like it was a shell exposing his outfit, a pair of basketball shorts and black tee. Reaching into his pocket he pulls out his wallet, producing a yellow business card with his information on it, detailed with flashy black lines. "Its for my day job. I work on performance motorcycles on the east side of Karakuratown. My shop is nearby but if you find anything feel free to bring it by, I stay upstairs so i should be there as long as I am not out on the town." Handing him the card he backs up back into his suit, the hollow stirring behind him. Servos and motors whining as they release the outfit around his body. "I don't really buy things, the market for materials and items in our field tend to be outside monetary value. However I do work for others in R and D and if you find yourself in need of anything swing by. I have a bit of a esoteric shop that could pick your interest if you ever decide that you want to get anything."
“Yep, that’s the guy,” Hidane said, nodding, when Gage mentioned Seran. It seemed it was a small world; especially so in Karakura Town. He supposed it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that they would know each other, given what sounded like a similar profession in a town like this. Luckily, it didn’t particularly sound like Gage was a fan of the Mod Soul either, which only made Hidane feel better about the Fullbringer. As Gage exited his armored suit, Hidane couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit. The last thing he expected to be under there was just a guy in basketball shorts and a tee shirt. He took the business card anyway, slipping it into one of the pockets in his pants.
“Good to know,” he said, taking a step back, hands still in his pockets. “I’ll keep that in mind. But, it’s late, and I should let you get back to… that.” He took his left hand out of his pocket and gestured towards the Hollow, that seemed to be starting to wake up through the sedatives. Surely it wouldn’t be dangerous for a while yet, but it was still something to take care of. “I think I’m gonna head home and see what’s on TV,” he added; he wasn’t necessarily going straight home, but he figured with Gage’s comment about ‘normal’ things being abstract to him, he hoped that a casual comment like that in the situation would put him in a good mood… or, better mood, anyway. He spun on his heels and began walking down the street again, waving with his left hand.
“I’ll catch ya around, Gage.” Putting his hand back in his pocket, his Sonido carried him away out of sight and sense with a loud crack.
[ THREAD EXIT ]
Seemed like a place to end it, and once I get through this thread with Blitzy Hidane will be finding Gage with Sayuri and a gigai (not sure how he'll get it yet, but I'll figure something out) anyway.
