Cyrell had left Las Nochas not long behind. Its spires were still distantly visible across the vacant sands. The sands shifted eerily in the wind. She got the distinct feeling that she was being followed. She didn't like that, and looked around her, her black dress rippling. That was when it emerged. It was strong, whatever the hell it was, and she shrank back from its enormous size It was slightly bug eyed, with a heart shaped mask, and a comic grin. Its flesh was a dull grey and it had a pair of wings and a pair of enormous hands. Its hind legs were small; so small it constantly bugged the insectoid wings in order to stand upright; Cyrell got the impression that it probably walked on its knuckles the vast majority of the time. It popped up out of the sands, and swatted at her. a large hand whistling through the air like a club. Cyrell hadn't been prepared for it, and ended up taking the full force of the blow. Unlike most arrancar, she wasn't particularly powerful and as a result, she didn't have great Hierro. She took the blow full force and span through the air, skidding to a halt in a heap in a pile of sand.
She could feel bruises blossom all over her body, and pain flashed across her vision. Most unpleasant indeed. She rolled over to her feet to once more regard her assailant who was a good distance away from her now. Those damned hands were just too big. It roared and beat its chest, and she drew her tanto, but it had other plans. Before she could close ranks, the hollow shot a cero at her with lightning fast speed. She wasn't expecting it and so only had a moment to prepare. She clumsily threw her reiatsu to the front of her frame, in a bleak attempt to avert some of the damage, coupling her efforts with a sonic explosion which disrupted the energy of the cero. She felt the impact and was blasted back across the sand. Despite being a stronger attack, however, she seemed to resist more this time. She felt a rib crack under the barage of energy and eventually, she wasn't able to hold her own any longer, and was thrown into another heap on the sand. Stupid hollow! She clutched her zanpakuto tight, ready to release it should she need to, but she really hoped that that wouldn't be necessary.
The hollow leapt and bounded towards her on its large hands as she recovered, her breathing laborious. Her heart beat quickly. It was so damned big, and her little sword was so pathetically small in comparison. She rolled to her feet, and as the hollow neared, she blasted some hollow-missiles at it, and they converged upon it, exploding. It didn't like that, roaring and toppling over. However its momentum carried it forward, straight into Cyrell. She gasped in pain as she did her best to fight the impact with her reiatsu, but she still felt pain from her cracked rib. Bracing herself against the pain, she lashed out, slashing at the hollow with her tanto as much as she could, making it roar even more. She was already bruised and battered but was not expecting it to reach around and slash her with claws it had revealed. Stupid thing! She felt the raking across the skin of her arm, and in response punched it where she thought there might have been a kidney. Even if there wasn't, there was something because the hollow roared, and turned around, having finally finished its slide, the force of which threw Cyrell off, rolling away into the dust.
She recovered more quickly this time, spinning to keep her balance, as it were, before leaping to her feet. She was battered and bruised and certainly worse for wear, but she wasn't down for the count just quite yet. The hollow was visibly licking its wounds, her zanpakuto having sliced through its skin like a hot knife through butter. She needed to press her advantage while she had it, despite how much she didn't really enjoy fighting. She leapt forward and shrouded her right arm in a spiral disk, while her left clutched at the zanpakuto. The hollow tried to grab at her hand with its enormous fingers but such was the strength of the spiral that it sliced them right off. It howled and splattered her with a deluge of bala. She held her arms over her head as the punishing rain came down but not good enough; she was hammered deeper and deeper into the sand until she was almost buried, cuts, bruises, and fractures all over her arms. She continually brought her reiatsu to bear in a clash with the hollow but her hierro was so weak that it did very little, though she could gradually feel her skin getting harder.
No. She could not continue to do this. It was too much, and she could sense that she would tire out as the skin of her arms began to peel off, no matter how much she condensed her reiatsu into them. She was still holding her zanpakuto. The panic had begun to set in now and she was slightly flustered, but she held firm. Calling her release phrase was more like a warbling. "Bleed, Espantajo!" she said and there was an explosion of reiatsu, knocking the hollow backwards. When she emerged, her body was covered in shaggy fur, her mask had covered her whole face and her hands and feet were now gnarled claws. She wasn't much stronger in this form... But what she was was far more versatile. The hollow, which was smattered in little flecks of her blood, as it began to burn and corrode at its skin, seeping deep and biting its nerves. She pressed the advantage that she had been given by the momentary distraction and lunged forward with a hiss, swiping her claw. She was slightly bigger now, though not quite as big as the hollow, and she attacked once more, each slash drawing rivulets of blood from the monster's flesh.
The monster let off several "missiles" and Cyrell roared, congealing her blood into a thick shield which she used to smash the missiles away, shattering the blood into a million crystalline shards. She leapt forward, condensing her spiritual energy to ward off the pumelling fists of the hollow but she felt bruises erupt all over her. Ploughing on despite the pain, she erupted towards her foe, and stunned it with a wave of fear. It was her ultimate predatory technique. To instill in others a deep deep darkness, a terror so pure that they would not even be able to function. It was like this hollow right here; he soon found himself frozen, his muscles refusing to respond to the screaming of his nerves as they were sapped of their strength. Cyrell didn't exactly enjoy these powers of hers. She found them so... Crude. Nonintellectual. But at this point style didn't matter, she had panicked and this was the best way she had forseen to get out of the situation that she had been in. The hollow could barely move, and Cyrell responded by clawing chunks out of his body; he screamed loudly but she ripped more and more flesh with her deadly claws.
She continued to tear lumps of flesh, with no restraint. She was not quite as monstrous as a hollow and did not eat them, yet... Perhaps that would be a method of getting stronger. Perhaps if Cyrell were stronger she would not have to worry so much about being attacked by these lowlife adjuchas who cared about nothing more than the next meal. She had a noninvolvement clause as her modus operandi, but she couldn't stick to that if she was the one getting assaulted by monsters. She wondered if she had been exactly the same as a hollow. Realistically, that was quite probable. The hollow, still frozen with fear before her somehow managed to muster the strength required to aim a cero at her, which she hadn't anticipated. It caught her on the arm, and sent her spinning away. Still, said arm was still firmly attached to her body, which was a plus. That bastard. He was most likely recovering from the taint of her fear, as there was no follow up attack. She picked herself up, wide empty eyes scanning the dust for the hollow but it had disappeared. Perhaps it valued its life too much and had decided to run away.
Either way, Cyrell decided that now was the time to make her leave, and quickly performed a sonido to vacate the area.
