It didn’t matter that Hikari and Amaya knew what was coming, even as their eyes flicked open in fear, and their arms jolted up reflexively to defend. Hikari was first, her privilege as the older of the two sisters. Seran’s fist caught her in the stomach, launching her backwards to bounce once and then slide to a stop in the white sand. Amaya would have slightly more time to throw up her guard, but it hardly made a difference. Seran spun, kicking her in the rips and sending her flying. While his darker haired daughter was spared the bounce and slide, she landed hard next to her sibling; the sand was anything but cushioning. Seran straightened from his kick, folding his arms and glaring at the two of them expectantly.
“On your feet. Even humans don’t lie down as much as you two.”
He waited. They knew how this worked. If they weren’t up and back to their positions quickly it would only mean more punishment. Already they were covered with bruises and scrapes; Hikari even had a nice split lip, evidence of their slow progress in this particular session. Seran stifled a yawn they hobbled back to him, taking up their positions several meters in front of where he stood. The older mod soul eyed them for a moment before continuing.
“You know the drill: body relaxed, eyes closed. Let your thoughts slip away until their is nothing but the void.”
He grinned as they looked at him reluctantly. It was certainly no easy task, letting go of yourself when you knew at any given moment you could be pummeled by a much stronger opponent. Seran knew this, but no other training was as effective and multifaceted as this one. Training to be be calm and focused even while being beaten, and removing the fear and bad reflexes associated with pain were a necessity for anything else he would teach them. There was more too it than that of course, but they would understand the importance of this lesson before the end. After all he didn’t expect them to succeed at this point. To actually teach there were barriers that had to be broken down, sometimes literally.
It was the only sound she made as her fathers fist planted itself firmly into her midsection, knocking the wind out of her before she went flying across the white sands of Hueco Mundo. Or more specifically the former home of the arrancar, Las Noches. She went skidding and bouncing across the hard grains, her skin bruising and breaking as she tried to regain control of her own body. Soon enough the momentum died down and she laid there for a moment trying to catch her breath, though it wasn't too long after her own stoppage that her sister Amaya found herself planted in the sand beside Hikari. Luckily the younger of the two didn't get added cuts and bruises of being sent flying across the harsh sands.
She was already attempting to stand when Seran had begun to spit his insults, or would one call them motivational phrases? Or were the provocative ones? It didn't matter, he said and did what he wanted and he clearly had expectations of them that they weren't meeting currently. Standing to full height Hikari wiped the blood from her bleeding lip and walked over towards her father. Her eyes weren't filled with fear or pain, but a fiery passion. The need to show Seran that she wasn't the lowly being he was currently making her out to be. Still the object of his current lesson was to teach them to let go of those outside thoughts and allow nothing but a calm and ready mind to persevere, at least that's how she saw it.
As she came face to face with him she inhaled deeply and then exhaled slowly, calming herself and allowing the fire to leave her eyes though it still burnt brightly inside her. She would show him before days end, that she was much more than what he had hoped for.
Seran's training was rough, though Amaya suspected he went easier on her than her Sister due to her being younger. It wasn't something Amaya particularly liked in truth, She knew she was just as tough as her Sister. But despite what she thought, she didn't even see Seran moving until she heard her Sister slam against the ground behind her. Her eyes went wide as her head turned, her arms began to come up but she wasn't anywhere near fast enough. By the time her arms began moving she felt something hit her ribs and she was sent flying, slamming into the ground next to Hikari. It took her considerably longer to get to her feet, but she managed to force herself right back up. One hand held the side that had been slammed by the leg as she moved back to her spot, her eyes glaring intently back at her Father. She understood why he was so tough on them, but that didn't change the fact that kick hurt... a lot. As she reapproached her spot those insults were sinking in quite deep, Oh how she wanted to just wanted to go all out.... But that wasn't what she was told to do and she was sure if she even tried to do such her Father would be all over her before the first letter even left her mouth.
So she straightened her posture and let out a deep breath as she closed her eyes, and began to let her body relax well... She tried to anyway. Her entire body was still tense, still on high alert... Deep down she knew she had to relax but... Her natural instincts were to stay on high alert, especially against an opponent who far surpassed her in terms of raw power. It was that fear that her Father was trying to rid from her, but it wasn't something she easily released. Her Sister might've had an easy time at it, but Amaya was still new to battle. Her fear and inexperience made it difficult for her to relax in the face of such a threat like what her Father posed. On top of this she'd never close her eyes during a real fight! That'd be suicide! You couldn't tell where the enemy would be coming from, or what they were doing. Visibly she might've appeared relaxed, but internally her body was still on full alert... Still heavily tensed and ready to try and react as quickly as it could.
Seran watched the two of them intently as the seconds turned into minutes. He stood, motionless and silent, building their tension through lack of sensory stimulation. It intrigued him, the difference in their behavior now they had been agitated. At the start they had simply followed directions, but as it became clear that the task was a far greater challenge than they had realized they had split. Hikari channeled her discomfort into an angry focus, shutting out everything with willpower as she searched for an answer to latch onto. Amaya, on the other hand, was like a raw nerve: she shared her sister’s focus, but she had abandoned the original concept of the exercise in favor of pure survival instinct. He allowed his lip to twitch in a narrow smile. It was amusing that they had both arrived on the edge of the goal, albeit on different sides.
Twenty minutes passed before he stepped forward. He did not move quickly as before, but at the first crunch of sand beneath his feet he saw Amaya twitch. Hikari remained impassive, it was likely she was so inwardly focused that she didn’t even notice him. It only took him threes steps to stand before the two of them. His black haired daughter was truly fidgeting now, her muscles preparing for the blow they expected. It was certainly to her credit that her eyes remained closed.
Seran’s arms reached out towards the two of them, and in one quick motion tapped them both roughly on the forehead. Their difference in response gave clear indication of what each had been focusing on. Tense as she was from anticipation, Amaya reacted instantly to the blow: leaning in hard and attempting to set her feet to mitigate a blow like that she had previously received. Only, this blow was nothing like the previous one. Her over compensation and surprise stole her balance, and she tumbled forward past her father.
Hikari’s shock was similar; but magnified not by anticipation but by confusion. She fell backward, only coming out of her trance-like state at the last moment. It was rather comical to watch, like someone being duped by a “fall and I’ll catch you” trust exercise. Seran gave them a moment to get their bearings, before speaking.
“This is certainly progress, the two of you skirt around the boundary of success on either side, dipping in a moment here and there without understanding what to hold onto.”
The older mod soul shuffled his feet a moment, flattening out a small patch in the uneven sand to sit on. He slump down roughly and motioned for the girls to join him. As they did he motioned at the younger of the two.
“Amaya, you now have a feel for what I call ‘the flooding’. It is one half of what you need to properly establish a void within yourself.”
His gaze shifted to her sister.
“Hikari you managed a taste of the other half. It is called ‘the separation’. It is rather fortunate that you each ended up with one of the halves, it will be much faster for both of you this way.”
Seran reached out and began drawing in the sand with his finger. He started with a large circle.
“This represents you, the line is your body and the space within is your soul.”
From the center of the circle he began drawing several jagged lines, like lightning bolt traveling outward.
“Flooding comes from the natural response to danger, but it is more advanced than the simple fight or flight of a normal human. True flooding is intense awareness of your body and environment. I’m sure you felt it Amaya, that twenty minutes probably felt like a lifetime to you. But there is a problem.”
The bolt lines reached the edge of the circle, breaking out and spreading away.
“On its own the sensation is difficult to hold onto. You burn out quickly with whatever emotion fueled the flood. This can make you sloppy, or you can lose yourself to the emotion rather than the void. You felt this when that light poke caused you to shoot forward like you’d been fired from a canon.”
Seran wiped away the image and traced another circle. Starting at the edge this time, he drew a spiral that moved in towards the center of the circle.
“The separation is can best be described as losing yourself within yourself. Like when reading or otherwise focusing on a task so completely. While for Amaya that twenty minutes took forever to pass, I’d imagine for you it was over in a heartbeat Hikari.”
The spiral reached the center of the circle and Seran stopped.
“But it has it’s own issues. Focus without purpose leaves you lost within yourself, unknowing of what is happening around you. Even after I knocked you backwards, you didn’t come out of that separate state until you’d nearly hit the ground.”
He looked at both of them, they were certainly smart enough to seen where this is going.
“If you use both of these together, the flooding gives you a constant dose of emotional fuel and heightened awareness, while the separation keeps the feeling cycling within and stops you from burning out. Humans have had many names and strategies for this over time, usually focused on one aspect or the other. Shinigami have often been capable of using both through their link with the zanpakuto, with one flooding while the other separates.”
Seran crossed his arms, eyes switching back and forth between the two of them.
“Humans and their offshoots, can usually get by and succeed with perfected understanding of one of the two halves, but for us it is essential to know both. Why do you think that is?”
She would be focused and ready her mind a blank state as she pushed everything out and away. Hell she hadn't even noticed her sister returning to her side, the only thing that concerned her was the task at hand. Shutting everything out. When the tap to the forehead came she still hadn't stopped blocking the outside stimuli, not until she felt her centre of gravity had shifted drastically. Her eyes snapped open to see her father standing above her one finger extended. When did Seran get so close to her? Hell when did he even touch her? These questions ran through her mind as time seemed to slow itself when she watched her her Father's face grow ever farther, then her behind planted itself firmly into the coarse sand.
She wanted to scowl at the fact that yet again he'd gotten the better of her, but bewilderment was the emotion that was truly overtaking her senses at the moment. She felt no pain, so clearly he hadn't hit her hard enough for her to just fall back especially with just a finger. Not to mention she hadn't even heard him move from his original position. She glanced over to her sister to see that she had a similar experience, except she fell forwards instead of back. What exactly did he do to them? Soon enough she would find out as Seran began to speak, dragging Hikari's attention back to him.
He explained to the both of them what they were doing just now, starting first with Amaya. The "Flooding" he called it. From the way he explained it to Hikari it was simply a sensory overload, but in a good way, where instead of breaking down from too much information flooding the mind and body at once you utilize to perform at your peak. If you can control it well enough. This was the opposite of what Hikari had been doing, the "Separation". While she'd done exactly what he wanted clearing her mind, she had no true focus at hand when she did so and basically put herself into a trance. It was no wonder she couldn't feel the touch of his hand on her forehead, much less hear when he approached her. She'd been too caught up in what she was doing. Then came the questions after his explanation, to see if they truly understood the concept of what they were learning or if they were merely following orders as per usual.
Why was it that they as Mod Souls needed to master both halves of the spectrum when the humans only needed one or the other. Hikari had been too focused and didn't see him coming, Amaya had been too tense and overreacted. "The flooding helps us to remain aware and ready to react at a moments notice, but separation applies focus to that so we don't end up overreacting or playing directly into our opponents hands. If we're too focused on carrying out our task at hand we may miss small details that could help us, such as myself not realizing you walking towards us. At the same time if we're too tense and anxious every little thing could seem like a trap or an attack of some sort, making us over think eventually wearing us down mentally if not physically as well."
She was being very literal with her explanation but she was mostly speaking about the emotions Seran had mentioned before. It was something that mod souls didn't need and therefore for the most part didn't really use. Fight or flight wasn't a necessity, Mod Souls in the first place were made to simply fight and eradicate hollows. "Without truly understanding and grasping the emotions that fuel and drive us, we're simply nothing more than fighting machines waiting to be ripped apart in combat by the simplest of mistakes."
She wasn't sure she was completely on the money with her answer. She'd have to see if her sister came to the same conclusion to be truly sure, but it would be Seran who would really verify her theory.
The longer time went on without any form of sensory noise... The more anxious and nervous Amaya got. She wanted so desperately to open her eyes, let that light flood her retna's and see what was happening... But that would be directly disobeying her Father. Five minutes... Nothing, it felt like a life time... then 10 minutes, 15 minutes passed and nothing came. Amaya was visibly shaking with anticipation, Just as she was about to open her eyes she heard a faint movement. A soft gasp escaped her as she readied herself for anything that got near her, She could hear Seran slowly moving towards them and knew she had to brace herself. Her breathing was heavy but slow, controlled but undisciplined. She waited for just a few moments before she felt something touch her, immediately her feet moved into place as she felt herself flicked but... She overcompensated? Her eyes bolted open as she felt her center of gravity begin to shift uncontrollably and it wasn't long before she slammed into the sand beneath her. A bit of the sand got into her mouth as she coughed and spit it back out, then she heard another thud against the sand and looked over behind herself.
She saw Hikari slam into the ground as though she hadn't even realized what happened, How could that be possible though? Hikari was far more experienced in combat than she was, yet she was able to catch every movement that Seran did. Amaya didn't think herself better than Hikari at all, She knew Hikari was both stronger and a better fighter in every respect... But still, why was it her Sister, who was far superior, couldn't catch what Seran had done? She looked back up at her Father, who motioned for her to come. Slowly Amaya got up, dusting off the sand that was on her. Moving over to where Seran now sat, she brushed out a flat spot and sat down with her legs underneath her. Amaya normally sported a somewhat short black leather dress, but more often than naught she was standing so the length wasn't too much of an issue. But then her Father began to explain what had just happened thankfully, because Amaya was extremely confused.
Her hands fidgeted in her lap as he explained their flaws and what they were doing before, She... didn't have enough emotion? She burnt out too fast? Amaya, in truth, hated that response... She felt he was completely wrong, she did have emotion! And a lot of it! And she definitely wasn't burnt out on it! But she knew better than to do or say anything, instead letting that thought and feeling fester and boil internally. She bit her lip rather hard as he continued, watching as his hand formed the circle and pulled the lightning strikes outwards. The more she listened the worse that feeling in her gut felt, that.... she was useless... That she wouldn't ever make a good fighter. It upset her quite a bit really, Hikari was an amazing fighter and someone she looked up too. And her father was someone far greater than even Hikari. So to be surrounded by them and only feel like she was useless to them, it was something she didn't want to listen too. She kept silent however, listening to Hikari speak after the question was asked. Amaya wasn't sure in truth, her mind was still too focused on that one comment. One thing that was always true about Amaya... She had a short temper. Despite that she was wholly loyal to her Father, Seran, her temper could often times get the better of her if she wasn't careful.
"I... Burn out too fast..." She muttered as she stood with Seran "You...You're wrong... I have drive, I have emotion..." She said, her hands clenching into fists as she looked up at Seran almost on the verge of tears "And I'll prove it!" She said, her Reiatsu erupting from her "Discharge, Ohm's Law!" She said, those words that she so rarely ever spoke. "And I'll show you the Father's Call!" As she said that, electricity erupted from her body, crackling around her and striking towards Seran as she lunged forward. Amaya brought her fist backwards before thrusting it forward as hard as she could towards Seran's head, As she did an, admittedly very brief, but very large Reiatsu erupted from her, the electricity that encircled her lashed out violently around her. "I'll prove it to you! That I'm not useless!"
{Techs}Name: Electroreception Class: AUGMENTATION Tier: II-III Type: Passive/ Supplementary Range: 50m radius in combat Description: Amaya has specialized reiryoku nerve cords, given to her by Seran, that form and run underneath the skin of whatever vessel she happens to be occupying. These specialize spiritual organs allow her to sense the bioelectric fields created by living beings. This information is exceeding vague, with the level of awareness being limited to location, physical exertion of the target (bioelectric field is generated by nerves and muscles), size to some extent, and if the being is spiritual or not (the energy a spiritual being has in their body generates additional bioelectricity). If given time to focus, Amaya can enhance these special organs to sense the fields at increased range.
Name: Father's Call Class: AUGMENTATION Tier: III (Duration: 7) Type: Offensive Range: 5/50 Meters Description: Some say Father's Call's ability stems from the Hado's Sokatsui and Soren Sokatsui. However this assessment isn't correct, in fact it isn't even close. Father's Call is both simple and complex in it's entirety, it encases Amaya's entire body in electrical convergences. These convergences happen in hundreds of areas all over her form, preventing any and all physical contact without extensive repurcusions.
At first glance, this looks remarkably similar to Shunko, however unlike Shunko these electircal convergences do not obey. Instead they seek other hosts, any and all who come near to Amaya whilst Father's Call is active are struck immediately for tier 3 damage, these bolts lash out immediately and uncontrollably. They do not discriminate between friend and foe, nor do they care if the objects nearby are living or dead. Amaya does not need to know of their presence for this to happen, though they must be in the same plane as Amaya. If one is masking their physical form (Whether their Reiatsu is hidden or not doesn't matter) then they cannot target that person until their physical form is no longer masked.
On command, However, Amaya can jettisin these convergences from her body and force them away, This causes them to violently lash out at everything within 50 meters at Half-Bala speeds. This can be done at will and Amaya herself needn't do anything visual to do this, however this is a very brief yet large surge of Reiatsu just before this happens.
She could sense it as their father spoke to them. Amaya's jumpy reiatsu going up and down with her emotions. She was too emotional and that's exactly what Seran was trying to teach her, whereas Hikari herself was too narrow minded. She needed to learn to open up and pay more attention to the little things. Probably trust her instincts more instead of over thinking ever little thing. Yes that was probably a part of what he was really getting at, either way it didn't matter as he finished his speech. She gave her answer and then turned to look at Amaya, though what she saw wasn't what she expected though she couldn't say that it surprised her. Her sister had broken down and started ranting on about how she had drive and emotion. Yes they both knew that, the problem was she had too much and didn't know how to control it properly.
"Tch." She scoffed already moving to get to her feet as by now Amaya was standing and chanting her release phrase. With a click of the tongue Hikari became covered in sparks like it was the forth of July and her white hair had an eerie luminescent glow to it. She stepped in front of Seran, her defences going to their maximum causing the electricity shooting towards both her and Seran to bounce away from them harmless. She stomped her foot on the ground and released an electric charge. "Bakuyaku Jishaku." Normally this technique would paralyze her opponents perhaps it still would if managed to catch her sister completely off guard, but in the case that she didn't it would at least slow her down some in time for Hikari to react to her punch. Should the technique not bind her sister Hikari would simply move off to the side slightly and try to wrap one hand around the elbow and the other closer to the shoulder before falling downwards with all her weight to bring Amaya down with her. "Settle down or I'll pop your shoulder out of place. We know you have drive and emotion, he's saying you have too much and don't use it properly."
{Spoiler}Name: 電磁石 - Denjishaku - Electromagnet Class: Soul Release Tier: II Type: Passive Range: Self - 100m Description: Hikari's electromagnetic powers allows her full manipulation of her surroundings by allowing targeted objects to become magnetized including all ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and diamagnetic objects, such as oxygen, organic material, etc. Also the manipulation of magnetic fields. She can also stick to anything that she's able to magnetize.
Name: 極性変化 - Kyokusei Henka - Polarity Change Class: Soul Release Tier: II-III Type: Passive/Activated/Defensive Range: Self Description: Hikari generates something akin to a magnetic field from herself at all times, this repels any spiritual attack of equal or lower tier and advantages sending it back to the user. The tier III version has a duration of 7 posts then resets back to the passive version as there is no cool down.
*Used to deflect Father's Call
Name: 爆薬磁石 - Bakuyaku Jishaku - Explosive Magnet Class: Soul Release Tier: III Type: Binding Range: 30 Meter radius centered on Hikari Description: Hikari can manipulate the very flow of electricity and Reiatsu around her, allowing for explosive torrents that can shock people and send them into convulsions. Hikari can release a tier 3 explosion centered on her that will make someone of equal rank to suffer a x2 drop in all natural movement speed, with this effect getting worse or weaker depending on advantages. By agreeing to a thread where one might battle Hikari, they give their full consent towards the advantage table below regardless of ranks. This technique also supercharges anything caught in the radius with electricity, allowing it to be manipulated by Hikari (Given enough advantages) regardless of what it is. Tech has a 7 post duration.
SPOILER -4 - Complete Paralysis for as long as Hikari maintains the attack -3 - Complete Paralysis for 4 turns -2 - x2 Drop in all natural movement and numbness across their entire body for 2 posts -1 - x2 Drop in all natural movement and their body convulses involuntarily for 2 posts 0 - x2 Drop in all natural movement +1 - x.5 Drop in all natural movement +2 - x.25 Drop in all natural movement +3 - No effect +4 - No effect
Well it should go without saying that she didn't expect her Sister to jump in front of her, Within a mere second she felt her Sister's arm wrap under hers, pulling her back down against the sand. She let out a grunt of pain as she felt her back slam down, pulling against Hikari's grip for just a few more seconds before she stopped squirming. Her breathing had both hastened and gotten quite a bit heavier in that short amount of time, she stared at her Sister for just a moment longer before her eyes went to her Father. She let out a slow but heavy sigh as she resealed her powers, giving Hikari a gentle pat on her back with her free arm as to signal that she had settled down. She closed her eyes, she had... jumped the gun quite a bit. She had lashed out and attacked Seran as if he were the enemy, instead of reacting as she should've.
If Hikari let her go, Amaya would slowly stand and dust herself off before giving Seran a deep bow "S-Sorry Father..." She said, tilting her head downwards and closing her eyes once more. After a few moments however Amaya would stand back up, and she hoped that she didn't ruin her chances.
“There is no need to apologize. You have a powerful fire within you, your soul was based on my own afterall. But you must be able to corral it else it dissipates before you can aim it at your opponent.”
Seran turned to his other daughter.
“Hikari you have the focus needed, but your drive is what's lacking. There is no such thing as ‘too much’ when it comes to emotion, only not enough control to contain it.”
With his admonishment complete, the older mod soul grinned, getting up to his feet.
“It is lucky actually, with the two of you as opposites this training will be much faster. Now I need you to stand back to back. Yes that's it. Now lock your arms together… tighter, you need to be holding each other firmly.”
Seran waited until they were in position to his satisfaction before continuing, scratching his head as they struggled to get level in the sand.
“That’s close enough, the main thing is the contact. Now, to start I need you to synchronize your reiatsu. Relax and breath slowly like you were before, contain your energy and release it out through your back into your partner. Once you feel the foreign reiatsu, accept it and let it out as your would normally.”
Hikari let her sister up and got to her own feet her own release being sealed once again as her hair lost it's eerie beautiful glow. Her red optics were now hidden behind her eyelids as her arms crossed at her chest. She was about to nod when her father spoke up towards Amaya, though he wasn't sure why he was so lenient with her. This was why she acted up so often, "You spoil her too much Father."
It wasn't like she expected him to beat her silly but no disciplinary action tended to breed the thoughts that one could carry on doing it over and over again because they wouldn't be losing a thing at all. No that she thought Amaya would dare make a habit of attacking Seran. Her right eye opened and glanced in the elder mod souls direction. "I don't have drive?" Perhaps it was true, she had no real goal or anything spurring her on at the moment. She was simply doing her best to outdo Amaya and eventually Seran one day, but that was really anything that would really fill her with real joy or much of a sense of accomplishment should she succeed. Her dreams weren't that shallow, were they?
Before she could think on it anymore Seran had already begun giving out his instructions again as he got to his feet. She turned her back to Amaya as he instructed and linked her arms with her sisters, stepping back closer and closer until she was told to stop. She listened to him as he spoke and then proceeded to follow his words. Her reiatsu exuding from her being at a steady and level pace. She breathed deeply and slowly, not rushing the process. She'd always been good with controlling her reiatsu so right now this wasn't too difficult for her.
“There is no need to apologize." Those words probably rang in her head the loudest... Seran said there wasn't a need, but Amaya disagreed. She did listened, of course, to the other words but her focus was on those first six words first and foremost. She watched as the Eldest of the three stood and spoke more, Doing as he told them she looped her arms with her Sister and pressed her back close to Hikari. Locking her arms with Hikari's, Synchronizing her Reiatsu in the first place wasn't something that she had ever done before... Let alone synchronizing it with Hikari. Hikari on the other hand seemed to get it pretty quickly, That being said she wasn't horrible at controlling her Reiatsu. She closed her eyes and began to focus once more as she had before, letting her Reiatsu flow freely out of her was the easy part... It was both pushing it towards her Sister while also accepting her Sister's Reiatsu.
Then something hit her though, something her sister said... "You spoil her too much Father." That wasn't true... She wasn't spoiled.... Right? Yeah Seran hadn't beaten her or anything.... Hell one could hardly even say she was scolded... But the point had been made right? Wasn't that all that mattered? In truth even thinking about this was making it difficult for her to focus, But she knew she had too. She had to put her emotions aside and allow her Reiatsu to flow freely, and to accept her Sister's Reiatsu at the same time. It was difficult for her though, her mind kept trying to wander to those words her Sister said despite how hard she tried to block out those words.
"I'm not spoiled you know... just because Father didn't beat me doesn't mean I'm spoiled... He just taught me the lesson a different way than you might've."
She said as she tried to keep her focus, to accept her Sister's Reiatsu... Despite how difficult it was.
“I spoil both of you. When I learned these things I was fighting for my life on a daily basis. Now focus, or I’ll whip something up that’ll keep you stuck together like that for a week.”
It was no idle threat. Seran didn’t expect this, or any other, training he would put these two through to be easy. It would be brutal and confusing, just as he wished it had been for him. The Gotei 13 had never understood what a modified soul could do when pushed and challenged. They had been trained to be shinigami, and shinigami they were not. But these two would be different, they had begun their lives at a level it had taken him years to achieve, and he would drive them to be as good as him if not better. Seran closed his eyes, cutting out the visual noise so he could focus on their progress.
“Amaya, you’re letting too much of your own energy get mixed in with your sister’s. Focus on creating a separate channel for her reiatsu, letting it through you as though you were a gateway. The sensation might be odd, but you should feel as though her reiatsu has replaced yours entirely. Hikari, you are too focused on the give and take, it’s like you’re trying to force your own reiatsu out and yank in Amaya’s. This should feel passive, not so much that you’re forcing your energy one way, but that you're blocking off its natural exit so it only flows into her.”
He returned to his silent vigil, giving them a chance to adjust to his instruction. As he waited, feeling their reiatsu as it flowed around him, his mind drifted. He remembered his own time learning to control his reiatsu, forming paper thin interlocking shapes with his black iron and levitating them on the flowing steam of his reiatsu. He recalled a method he had used to focus, making poems in his head and repeating them like a mantra related to his training. Seran grinned, he had always liked poetry. His voice drifted over to his children.
“Two Rivers Flowing, Opposite Ways Yet The Same, Close But Never One.”
She listened to her father's quick response noting to herself it was probably best not to push the subject any further. She sighed and went back to concentrating, trying to now accept the energy that was coming from Amaya. She did it just fine, she was feeling quite confident in what she was doing until Seran started instructing them again. Once more he started with Amaya describing her faults and what she was doing wrong. Hikari, now paying attention to what Seran was saying as well as what she was doing began to make her own minor adjustments with what he found off with Amaya if she saw herself doing any of these things.
She realized it too late thoug as her Father had already turned to her to deem her judgement. She wasn't sending her energy to Amaya, she was just dumping it out around them. How was she going to send the energy to Amaya while receiving her's? Couldn't she just drag it in, from the air... though She supposed then Amaya would really be doing all the work and she only learning half the lesson. That was when she heard Seran speaking again, the poem he was saying. Two rivers flowing, opposite ways yet the same, close but never one.
Of course, all she needed was two separate flows. She closed her eyes and imagined to separate flood gates in her mind. Both opened only the one on the right was receiving an influx of energy coming from Amaya, while the other was sending her own reiatsu directly back to Amaya. She repeated the words of the poem Seran had said in her head and kept the image there as she slowly caught onto the exercise.
Amaya, admittedly rather new to this, wasn't very good at controlling her own Reiatsu let alone accepting someone else's entirely. So when Seran spoke towards her it was something that Amaya expected to hear, Of course creating that channel was easier said than actually done. It was almost like Seran was trying to teach them some special technique for healing or something, Amaya honestly was having trouble even grasping the idea let alone carrying it out. If she understood what her Father was trying to say, then that meant that Amaya wasn't focused enough to properly synchronize her Reiatsu with her Sister. But Amaya wasn't really sure how she could accomplish this anyway, But she knew she had to vent less and accept more. So she began to think of something like a water treatment facility, one part accepting... The other releasing. She focused her Reiatsu venting to the left side of her body, Accepting her Sister's Reiatsu in on her right side. It did feel strange, Her body didn't feel like hers anymore... It felt like someone else's. It made her shudder as for the first time ever... Amaya felt uncomfortable in her own body. It wasn't a feeling she liked at all, and it wasn't one she wanted to keep feeling. But as much as she didn't wish to feel it anymore, Seran hadn't told them to stop so despite her minor squirming she tried to bear through it as best she could.
It was then that he began to talk to Hikari about her own fuckups, She was yet again the complete opposite of Amaya. She was forcing her own out and sucking in Amaya's, While this certainly wasn't the sole cause... This was probably what was messing Amaya up, or that's what she thought anyway.
“Two Rivers Flowing, Opposite Ways Yet The Same, Close But Never One.”
Two rivers? Yeah she could kinda see that... Especially with how she was trying to filter the Reiatsu now. Two different streams, both of them going the opposite way... Practically touching, and yet, never becoming one. Still, this felt weird... and really made Amaya uncomfortable. "C-Can we stop now Father? It's making me feel weird..." She said as she squirmed on her feet a bit more, She wasn't used to not having complete control over her body... And this foreign Reiatsu that was being taken into her body made it feel like she didn't have any control anymore.
Seran sighed. It was a shame really. Hikari seemed to be slowly getting the hang of what he was trying to teach. But maybe Amaya was simply too much like him to be able to learn under these conditions. He shook is head, perhaps this was inevitable.
“Stupid girl, can you not focus for more than a few minutes without complaining of discomfort?”
He stepped forward, grabbing Amaya by her wrist.
“Perhaps your sister is right, I am too gentle with you.”
He grip tightened for a moment before releasing, revealing a band of black iron securely around her wrist. Pointing at the binding, Seran swung his finger to point at Hikari, and a chain of the black material leaped outwards, connecting to the blonde sister’s wrist and forming a similar restraint. Grasping the chain, Seran hoisted upwards, pulling both of their arms upwards to a point where their linked arms would come undone.
“For this next exercise, the object is simple. As I said before, each of you has one half of what is needed. Training ends when you learn to use them together to my satisfaction….. Or when I destroy your bodies to a point where you cannot continue.”
Seran swung the chain down and to the side, tossing the both of them several meters to his right. With a hiss of escaping steam, his reiatsu flared to life, pressing down at the both of them as he moved to where they had landed. Despite his annoyance, he had to admit it would be interesting to see what they could do given the circumstances
She wanted to groan as Amaya started to complain about his discomfort, but Hikari did her best to hold it in and focus on the task at hand. She continued on imagining the flow of reiatsu as water passing through two separate gates side by side. She almost chuckled when her father agreed with her in the fact he was too soft on the younger Mod Soul. This time she didn't miss it, the sound of sand crunching beneath his feet as he stepped forward in their direction. Still even then she didn't open her eyes and attempt to see what it was that he was doing, much too busy with her current task.
Not too long after she noticed a subtle change, though she wasn't quite sure what it was. That's when she felt her arms moving upward until they untangled from Amaya's, now what were they doing? She looked down at her wrist to see the black chain around it.
“For this next exercise, the object is simple. As I said before, each of you has one half of what is needed. Training ends when you learn to use them together to my satisfaction….. Or when I destroy your bodies to a point where you cannot continue.”
She looked up from her hand as he spoke, wait what did he want them to do? Before she could attempt to ask she felt her body thrown aside and into the ground sliding several meters. Almost immediately after she felt Seran's reiatsu spark to life and again he was in front of them. Were they supposed to fight him? She didn't have time to think about that. She clicked her tongue, her hair glowing and electricity crackling around her body. She knew trying to bind him was useless so her best option was a straight offence, though it would still be better to have a plan. She placed her right hand out in front of her aimed at his midsection where he stood and it crackled once with energy then fired a plasma beam at half bala speed at Seran. He was strong enough that there was no need for her to hold back.
Name: 雷砲 - Raihō - Lightning Cannon Class: Soul Release Tier: II - III [Tier III] Type: Offensive Range: 100m Description: She can fire any object or person like a rail gun as long as said projectile is magnetized. The shots move at speeds of bala to half bala according to the tier used.
Name: 極性変化 - Kyokusei Henka - Polarity Change Class: Soul Release Tier: II-III [II] Type: Passive/Activated/Defensive Range: Self Description: Hikari generates something akin to a magnetic field from herself at all times, this repels any spiritual attack of equal or lower tier and advantages sending it back to the user. The tier III version has a duration of 7 posts then resets back to the passive version as there is no cool down.
Amaya's eyes snapped open when she felt her wrist grabbed, looking up at her Father she didn't think she was complaining... It just felt weird was all, It was a sensation she wasn't used too and, yes, it did make her feel very uncomfortable. It had felt like her Sister was invading her body.
"I wasn't complain~"
Her words were cut short as she felt his hand tighten and then release, looking down she could see a band of black iron around her wrist. Her eyes slowly followed the line his hand had traced in the air, a chain forming between her wrist and Hikari's wrist. Amaya was very confused by this, however her confusion would be put to the back of her mind quickly as she felt herself flung to the side. She almost landed on top of Hikari, but had kept going just fast enough to hit the ground in front of her and spin slightly. As she was starting to move to get up, she felt a weight slam down against her shoving her back to the ground. Amaya grit her teeth as she heard the same click from her Sister, and she knew she might as well just do the same as her.
"Discharge, Ohm's Law!"
She said quickly, Lightning kicking up around her. Quickly she forced herself back to her feet so as to not slow Hikari down, Her Father's Call had already been triggered. As she stood her Sister launched her attack, Seran was close enough that she didn't need to use any kind of range to do anything... However she could use her Sister's attack as a coverup, assuming she came with. With that in mind Amaya silently motioned for her Sister to follow her as she brought her fist back, thrusting it forward the convergences from her Father's Call came together and erupted forth. The plan behind this was to make near direct contact against Seran and have all these convergences hit the same spot at the same time... Hopefully doing something to him.
