So I know changing of the release once it hits average or mastered (depending on which release stage we're talking) isn't allowed, but my question here is, is it possible to drop a characters mastery level back down to beginner or below average and then be able to edit said release? Of course this isn't without penalty, obviously seeing as the character would be losing a majority of their power in the process.

I think for a Shinigami. Losing one's Zan brings it back to to Beginner since you are given a new one.
HOwever that is a one time thing. At least as far as I know.
