Vikto slowly strode through the streets of Karakura Town. No one could see him, which was not unusual. Shinigami weren't easily seen by most. In fact, humans would have a tendency to walk around Viktor, with no knowledge as to why they had suddenly felt the need to detour even if no one was around. A small sigh escaped from his liips, Viktor tended to work alone. He much preferred it, there was no worrying about a partner or worrying about the safety of someone else. still...he got lonely. Viktor suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, there was a familiar spiritual pressure around. He couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from, but he knew it was there somewhere.
"Help me please!!!" there was a sudden shouting combined with a roar and it drove Viktor's thoughts back into the recesses of his mind. With trained fluidity, Viktor pulled out what would look to a human as a cell phone, but it in all actuality was a device designed to track spiritual pressure, and hollows. On the screen could be seen a triangle heading around North East. Viktor took a guess and figured it was heading towards the inner city, Viktor took a moment and stretched while sighing.
"Back to work I guess. Hopefully this is the hollow that's been appearing, eating, and then disappearing just as fast as it came. I can't afford to keep spending time in the human world. It bores me, and there is never really a challenge in the human world. The hollows are usually below my rank...." a memory flashed through his mind like a bolt of lightning. Viktor remembered his only friend and the demise of his friend in turn. "No. I won't underestimate another hollow. Never again."
To someone who wasn't properly trained, it would have seemed as if Viktor had disappeared from the spot where he stood, but to others, they would recognize the sound and sudden absence, Viktor had done a meager flash step. It was the fastest way to travel, and for most Squad 2 members, it was also the most silent.

The air was heavy and sweltering, summer was in full wing and the humidity had already started getting to the citizens of the city. The city in question was known as Karakura as far as Kvothe could tell; it wasn't his native town but it felt familiar, had a certain sense of home. Kvothe took a deep breath and continued looking for the bakery he'd heard so much about; he wanted to stop and ask someone for directions, but every time he'd decide to his eye would wander to a passing lady. This town was abundant with people and out of those that were the opposite gender, the vast majority was attractive; it was a character flaw, Kvothe would admit to that much, but it had never hindered him in such a way. He chalked it up to the town and it's ever present air of nostalgia; it was hard to not feel at ease here, even with the hustle and bustle that was surrounding him.
Kvothe started to yawn but stifled it when something caught his eye; the figure seemed above average height but that wasn't what struck Kvothe as odd: the figure wore a cloak the like of which Kvothe had never seen. Kvothe watched the figure carefully while moving towards it, activating his Fullbring at the same time. If anyone was watching they'd see his tattoos change shape, but Kvothe wasn't worried about anonymity. The figure moved, fast and Kvothe tracked it. 'Was that bringer's light or is this a Hollow of some sort?' Kvothe let the question roll over in his mind as opened his eyes to the possibilities of color. Light hit arced off of his eyes and to the figure moving back and forth at a rapid rate until eventually the figure began to give off an aura. 'Sub-red huh?' Kvothe chuckled to himself and followed the colored trail that the figure gave off. 'This new ability is pretty handy after all.'
Viktor quickened his pace. No longer concerned for the sound he produced, Viktor disappeared and reappeared even faster. A small sense a dread wormed its way into his mind. "Perfect, I must be getting closer if I'm feeling this. Hopefully this hollow is more powerful than the last ones I was sent to kill."
Another roar rolled over the city. This one was filled with more malice, anger and frustration. "The soul it's chasing hasn't given up yet. Good. I should get there in enou-" Viktor didn't even get to finish his sentence. After he cleared the last house he was on he felt sick to his stomach. Viktor had heard the tells, but he'd always been fast enough. In the middle of an empty set of streets, the hollow was holding the soul in its hands, the head of the soul missing. Viktor fought down the feeling in his stomach. The soul would be cleansed, and so would the other souls that this hollow devoured. "Decay, from this world to the next."
Viktor hopped down in front of the hollow, drawing his Zanpakuto the hilt of which stuck out from his right side behind his hip, and the broken one he carried, that was from his long ago ally, whose hilt sat behind his left hip. "Come at me. With all the strength you can muster. I'll put you in the ground before you even know what hit you." The hollow roared even louder, the air shaking as it's roar echoed through it. The hollow threw the soul it been chewing on into its mouth and swallowed it whole. "I'll end you here." Viktor flashed stepped up to the hollow's mask and spun, slashing through the mask with both swords. Cleansing the hollow's soul, and the souls it had devoured, with the last swing of his Zanpakuto. "You weren't even worth my time. Weak." Viktor swung his swords downward, throwing the blood that had been on them off onto the ground. "Such weaklings. I've honed my mind, and body, now not many can keep up. Weak hollows like that aren't even worth releasing my Shikai for." Viktor yawned and sat down in the middle of the road.

If Kvothe had been a normal human the pace at which he was running would have tired him, but his relentless pursuits of Hollows and the fact that he'd drawn a bead on this...figure allowed him to stay on his tail. Keeping pace was a different story altogether; Kvothe could not move that effortlessly without his Fullbring if his life depended on it. The figure was faster than him no matter how you looked at, but he couldn't understand why; from what he could see, the thing was not a Hollow, which meant it had to be a human of some sort. It's movements suggested Bringer's light, but from what he could see there was no green glow. His strange garb was the next point of intrigue: he wore a black cloak, very nondescript from what Kvothe could see.
"Just what are you," Kvothe mumbled, struggling to keep up with him, "screw this." Kvothe jumped in the air, snapping at the same time. A sphere with what looked to be rainfall appeared ahead of him and Kvothe accelerated as he jumped through it; he was in the now, but not fast enough to keep up with the figure. He snapped again as he fell, allowing his momentum to stack onto the burst of speed he'd already received. Each time Kvothe arced he snapped allowing him to gain speed as he fell and as he was about to hit the ground he'd collect water under his feet and bound upwards as he began to hit his top speed he stopped arcing and shot water in front of him, essentially surfing his terminal velocity. Kvothe watched from afar as the figure drew a blade; it wasn't until then that Kvothe noticed the destination: a Hollow, fresh kill in it's hands roared, but in the time it took Kvothe to realize that he needed to fight the figure had already downed his opponent. Kvothe waited a beat before shouting from afar "So...you're a good guy then?"
Viktor had just sheathed his swords when he heard a voice calling to him. Almost instantly Viktor locked onto where the voice had come from. There was a person...in the air? Viktor felt the curiosity building up in him, and when he felt his intrigue had peaked he walked toward the figure. 'Who is this guy?' Viktor thought to himself as he slowly made his way towards the figure. They looked human enough, but as Viktor had learned over the course of his Shinigami life, looks were deceiving. "Yes, I'm a good guy." Viktor spoke at a normal volume and let the buildings carry his voice as it bounced towards the figure.
Viktor was confused. Humans couldn't usually see Shinigami, and the ones that could usually thought he was weird or they fled in fear. This one was coming towards him, and was in the air with water? 'This is very peculiar.' Viktor mulled over his options. If it were a Vasto Lorde, he was screwed and wouldn't be able to win the fight. Were it another Shinigami they would have recognized who Viktor was, or at least that he was a Shinigami. A small amount of dread went over in Viktor's mind, he placed his hand on the hilt of his left sword, the reach wasn't nearly as far as his Zanpakuto, in fact it was half the distance, but Viktor wanted to keep his Shikai under wraps until he was sure this person was not a threat.
"Identify yourself. Are you another Shinigami? If not how the hell can you still see me?" Viktor stopped about 10 meters from the figure. He sized him up, he looked like a normal human, but not a human that belonged in this city. His outfit was too...different. Not that Viktor could speak considering what most Shinigami wore.

If Kvothe was intrigued before you could call his current state baffled; as the figure strode up to him he could see that they very clearly weren't a Hollow, in fact, they looked very human. Moreover, the figure carried more than one sword a fact Kvothe had not stumbled upon earlier.
"Shini...gami," Kvothe broke the word down in his head trying to find some meaning, "Death God? What the hell is that? Are you that conceited...." Kvothe trailed off, remembering something from earlier. The way this Shinigami moved through the crowd, as though he were invisible, moreover, it seemed to come as a surprise to the man that Kvothe could see him at all. "You're not conceited are you? People really can't see you...." Kvothe let himself drop from the platform he'd made and stood to face the man. "Name's R. Kote Bennett, most just call me Kvothe. To answer your question; the reason I can see you is the same reason I could see that Hollow. I'm a Fullbringer I'd go into details, but I don't really enjoy explaining. To make a long story short: I have superpowers. I can see ghosts and shoot bullets without a gun...and when I'm chasing a suspicious man," Kvothe looked the Shinigami up and down, "fly. So, now it's your turn. I've already deduced that you're a spiritual being of some sort...care to elaborate on that?"
Viktor looked the man before him up and down again. 'A Fullbringer? Why do I recognize that? I can't remember, so I better play it safe for now.' Viktor stayed calm, his hand never leaving the hilt of his sword.
"I'm a Shinigami. I'm not being conceited, I just am genuinely surprised that someone can see and isn't fleeing in terror or referring to me in a derogatory way. It's a first." Viktor locked eyes with the man to try and gauge who he was as a person. "That disgusting hollow just devoured a soul. Most likely not its first. It is my job to cleanse the hollows, as well as all the souls they have devoured. We cleanse the souls so that they may rest and move on to the next world. The Soul Society. It is where I came from. I am hundreds of years old, and...I am powerful. This hollow was a bore, honestly, you humans are so incredibly weak."
Viktor took a stab at the man's pride. Viktor figured if he had any pride in his race, his planet, then he would be angered at being called weak. And he figured that if he didn't care for the human race, he would feel insulted at being called weak. It was a win-win for Viktor. If this human was powerful, Viktor would enjoy the ensuing fight. He longed for someone who was as strong as he was or stronger.

Kvothe looked the man up and down, a curious eyebrow arching it's way up his forehead. Kvothe exhaled, keeping his emotions in check; there was no point in taking what the man had said as an insult. He didn't know what a Fullbringer was first off and secondly he must come from a line or race of people who were similar to him. If Kvothe had to guess, he'd say the name of Shinigami didn't stick easily; this man was doing the same kind of work he was and with relative ease. In the grand scheme of things this guy was probably a grunt doing leg work at the beck and call of some all powerful Death God. It would be stupid to try and fight someone who clearly outclassed him.
"You're right...human's are a relatively weak race. The vast majority of us can't even see ghosts let alone Hollows and things like you. I'm most likely not as strong as you, but despite all that power you all still do a crap job of protecting those weaker than you. People wouldn't need to hire Hunters from a place like Polarity if you all were decent at using that power of yours," Kvothe chuckled to himself, "but look at me getting ahead of myself...shouldn't you worry about the Hollow that's pulling itself back together behind you?" Kvothe finished his sentence and fired 7 bullets in quick succession taking out the Hollow's limbs and puncturing it's mask. "High speed regeneration...you shouldn't underestimate your opponent's Mr. Shinigami." Kvothe said turning to walk away.
'No luck I guess.' Viktor thought to himself quietly. This human either didn't care for his race or was too level headed to be influenced by cheap tactics like that. 'Can't be helped. Even I'm small fry in the grand scheme of things.' Viktor shrugged. He watched as the man shot water behind him. Viktor looked over his shoulder and the hollow whose mask was slice in half, clean all the way through, that had some how started repairing itself. A clean hole had appeared in its mask as well.
"It couldn't regenerate, even if it wanted to. That cut was clean through the mask." Viktor spat to his right. "Don't lecture me about a job I've been doing for hundreds of years. Not all Shinigami are strong, some die to hollows. We can't be everywhere at once. If you guys can take care of a few now and then, who am I to care?" Viktor stretched his arms over his head as he heard the hollow roar. Looking over his shoulder again he made sure that it dissolved. "There. All the souls cleansed and sent to the Soul Society." Viktor rested his elbows on the the hilts of his swords. "You shouldn't be killing hollows. No one but Shinigami can cleanse their souls. With people like you and the damned Quincys running around, you'll wipe all the souls that reincarnate. Honestly, do you even understand what this is? Or what it's for?" Viktor pointed to the swords by his side. "All you and the Quincys do is kill the souls. They need to be cleansed that they can be reincarnated."

Kvothe listened to the man for a moment, his words were strange almost confusing but he understood the basic message. The Fullbringers like himself and whatever a Quincy was were killing Hollows the wrong way; Kvothe had never believed in a higher being or anything of that nature, but with all of the Hollows and spirits running around it was near impossible not to believe in reincarnation or an afterlife on some level. Kvothe had never taken into account the fact that there might be a way to revert a Hollow to its original state. In his mind they were like zombies: you had to kill them and you had to do it in one fluid motion or you risked getting yourself killed; it no longer mattered who they had been.
"No I've no idea about the logistics behind the weapons you carry. I've never seen or heard of a Shinigami or a Quincy for that matter until this moment in particular. At a guess, I'd say the blade or blades you carry are capable of separating the evil from the good in regard to a soul since you mentioned cleansing them. It would probably work similarly to the concept of giving a vengeful spirit a proper burial," until this moment Kvothe had been facing away from the Shinigami but he turned to face him as he spoke, "I'm guessing you and the others like you are undertakers in a sense and you send souls to that big old graveyard in the sky. My question is...if we're doing things so wrong why don't you help us? Give me one of those soul swords you seem so proud of. I'm sure I'm capable of becoming or at least learning to become a Shinigami. If I'm protecting people the wrong way then why don't you teach me the right way?" Kvothe finished his speech calmly, the only thing betraying that fierce demeanor being the harsh determination in his eyes as he locked gazes with Viktor.
VIktor laughed and then shook his head. 'Was this guy serious?' There was no way Viktor could give up his Zanpakuto. It was as much a part of who he was as the air he breathed. The second one...was broken. The soul inside refused to speak with Viktor. There was no way he'd give that one up either. "I can't give up my swords. They're more important to me than my life." Viktor shrugged slightly "Besides, it's not like your dead. The soul has to resonate with the soul inside the sword." Viktor looked down at his Zanpakuto and felt a slight hum. Murasakino was in agreement. "If you can't communicate with the soul in the sword, it won't recognize you and then you can't release. If you can't release, then you might as well be hollow chow sooner or later."
Viktor wasn't sure why, but he felt a sense of dread crawling up his neck. He looked over his shoulder again. 'Nothing there. Maybe I'm just being paranoid today.' Viktor shook the feeling and continued with his explanation. "We can't be every where. It's a sad fact. We are out numbered vastly compared to hollows. It's as if for every ten we kill, a hundred more pop up. Believe us, eventually the souls are cleansed and returned to the reincarnation cycle. But as for giving you one of these..." Viktor motioned to his swords. "That's a no go. I don't have the authority to go around making Substitute Shinigami."
Post by R. Kote Bennett on Jun 28, 2016 17:17:03 GMT
Again Kvothe listened with quiet intensity; the more he talked with this Shinigami the more he learned about the world around him. He still had questions about Shinigami and their mysterious soul swords; if wielding one simply required him to communicate with the soul the resided within the blade then Kvothe believed that he was at a set advantage.
"Soul Communication is the crux of Fullbringing, Viktor. I and those like me can communicate with the soul of near anything and shape it as we see fit," to emphasize Kvothe tugged on the soul of light and shaped a replica of Viktor's swords albeit completely blue, "these are made completely of light and my spiritual energy; it shouldn't be terribly hard to speak with something that would actually talk back..." Kvothe trailed off as Viktor turned to scan his surroundings; Kvothe was oblivious, he felt nothing with his reiatsu and from what he could see there was nothing that required his immediate attention. Kvothe raised an eyebrow before pressing the Shinigami for more answers. "If you don't have the authority to create a...Substitute Shinigami, who does? And what do you mean I'm not dead? Is there some rule saying I can't fight with a cool samurai sword that cleanses Hollows if I'm not a ghost?"
Viktor shook his head. "These swords, our Zanpakutos are important to us. They are essentially a part of our soul in the sword." Viktor felt Murasakino vibrate by his side. Gently he gripped the sword and unsheathed it. "My Murasakino is in synch with me, or I'm in synch with her. Either way, we are both a part of the same whole. I wouldn't be the same person without her." Viktor checked over his shoulder again. He couldn't shake the feeling of dread that he felt. 'What is happening?' Viktor pulled out his tracker, and looked at it, trying to find any kind of signature. The screen showed nothing. Viktor jumped up and held himself there, pushing out his reiatsu as he did so, like a giant net. There was nothing, not a single thing touched his reiatsu that gave him the feeling he was experiencing. Slowly he fell back towards the ground and looked at the man in front of him.
"Sorry about that, but there isn't so much a rule that you have to be dead, but ninety-nine percent of Shinigami are dead. We're spiritual beings. We can pass through walls, and floors and the like. The only ones who aren't dead are Substitute Shinigami, and as I said I don't have the authority to make one. The only reason I could ever make one is if it's a critical situation. That's the only time I could do it, and even then I would still be penalized harshly for my actions." Viktor checked his tracker again and still there was nothing popping up. He looked back at the man in front of him, holding up the tracker towards him. Nothing, no beeps, no triangles, just nothing. 'There has to be a reason.' Viktor turned away from the man in front of him. "Do you feel that at all? Or is it just me?"

Kvothe closed his eyes and listened to the world around him, felt the vibrations in the air through the water molecules, and sensed his environment in its entirety; Kvothe felt the souls of all nearby things calling to him, speaking with him and he in turn could speak with them, but Kvothe was not attempting to soul communicate he was extending his reiatsu, searching for a sign of the thing Viktor had mentioned. He didn't feel anything, and checking his surroundings with just his eyes yielded nothing. Kvothe relayed the information to Viktor before pausing for a beat: something hit him, hit his senses. It was subtle, not in the way that you'd have to search for it in order to find it, but in the way that a sudden feeling of nostalgia hits you. If you weren't looking for it you'd feel it almost as though it was seeking you out.
"Viktor," Kvothe was discreet and careful in the way he spoke, he stepped close to the Shinigami, "there's something here, definitely...I can't tell what it is or if it's a threat, but I couldn't sense it. It's almost like it won't let you unless you're not looking for it." Kvothe stepped away and resumed talking at normal volume "If you want we can stick around here or we can take off, your choice."
Viktor heard the man speak. He heard but could not focus on the words, his attention was on the world around him. "This might be some kind of hollow power. Or maybe another Shinigami? I don't really know. It's my job to stay though. If I feel something like this I have to check it out. It can't be left untouched." Viktor looked around, seeing nothing, and feeling nothing. It hit his senses again the moment he stopped looking for it. "It's somewhere around here." Viktor closed his eyes and blocked off his senses in a way. He let his senses wander so that he wasn't searching. When Viktor felt the touch again he simply moved towards it. He made a signal for Kvothe to follow him.
Viktor spoke in a whisper, too afraid of losing the feeling. "I can keep up with the sensation for a bit. I'm keeping my senses spread out, so it's hard for me to speak. Just stay close until we know what exactly we're dealing with. It could be anything." Viktor felt it twinge against his senses and he took a few steps again. He tried his best to keep up with it, moving when he felt it and waiting for it to return before he could move again. After what felt like hours, they would have arrived at a warehouse that looked like it hadn't been used in months, maybe even years.
Post by R. Kote Bennett on Jul 6, 2016 16:00:31 GMT
Kvothe was bewildered to say the least, but the Shinigami seemed confident enough in his abilities and his strength was evident in the way he carried himself; furthermore, now that the death god wasn't actively focused Kvothe noticed a few things about him that he had not noticed before. His reiatsu was heavy, Kvothe chalked it up to a difference in power, however. It was common knowledge that your spiritual presence was directly related to how powerful you were. The smell, though, he could not put his finger on. It was earthy, almost dirt like. Kvothe wondered if that had anything to do with the Shinigami's powers; Kvothe's own reiatsu was blue-green and smelled like the ocean, directly relating to his ability to control and generate water. There were most likely more things to be learned, but Kvothe didn't have to time to gather them as the two men came to their destination; Kvothe had been here before on another mission some time ago. The warehouse district was an area of constant investigation. Polarity was always getting calls regarding strange sightings and sounds coming from inside some of the buildings; it was only ever ghosts who couldn't move on, but that was something Kvothe couldn't help with. He simply protected them from Hollows when he could. This building, however, was...new? It certainly didn't look new by any means, but in all of his missions here Kvothe had never seen it before. He relayed the information to Viktor and prompted him to be careful.
Viktor heard Kvothe's voice and took a moment to compose himself. 'If this building is new, then something unnatural could be happening.' Quickly, Viktor pushed his reiatsu out, while also trying to keep it from flooding the area like a torrent. Viktor felt the pulse of everything spiritual within fifty meters. Viktor focused harder, there was something just there on the edge. Trying its hardest to hide its presence. "Gotcha. You can not escape me." Viktor pulled back his reiatsu, keeping it close to him as to possible so as to hide himself better. He turned to Kvothe and spoke quickly, but assuredly. "I don't know what's in here. It has been trying to hide its presence since we first discovered it. I felt it twinge on my senses a moment ago, and it is definitely in the warehouse from what I can tell. I suggest that we keep our spiritual pressure as low as we can. Take your reiatsu and keep it close to you. If it wants to play the stealth game, then we'll play the stealth game as well." Viktor turned to face the door and took a deep breath, feeling the air course through his lungs. Slowly he breathed out. "Keep your wits about you, there is no telling what we might run into in there. I prefer to not have someone die on my watch."
Post by R. Kote Bennett on Jul 23, 2016 17:54:51 GMT
Silently and with an air of anxiety, Kvothe took a breath and drew in his spiritual pressure; he doubted it was possible to hide himself completely but maybe that was to their advantage. If Kvothe was unable to mask himself completely then maybe the thing would focus on him and not his Death God companion; that would open an entire realm of possibilities that could easily turn the tide of battle. The only thing that bothered Kvothe was the fact that he had never fought alongside this man before and thus had no idea how he navigated a battlefield or even what abilities he possessed other than the high speed movement he witnessed earlier. Kvothe wanted to grab Viktor and tell him that they needed to strategize, but the man was most likely too prideful or too intrigued to waste even a second now that they had the enemy within their grasp. Kvothe sighed and resigned himself to a support role; with Vortice active Kvothe turned to follow Viktor, snapping every few meters to cover the ground behind the two men. Even if they were overpowered or outnumbered it would be near impossible to flank the two of them without the being in question revealing itself.
Name: Ripples Class: Release Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: 50 meters Description: The user creates a “saturated zone” about 2 meters in diameter that can be manipulated by anyone who can soul communicate and is of the same element. The user may then manipulate said area to cause things within to accelerate or decelerate (this is equal to a x2 buff or debuff); when chosen anything inorganic that passes through takes on the effect of the zone. The user, however, may choose whether or not they are affected. Additionally, Ripples interacts with Kvothe’s other abilities.
Viktor pulled his reiatsu close to himself, it was no further from his body than 2 meters. Cautiously, he took the first few steps into the warehouse. As he stepped in, the presence was gone as far as Viktor could tell, it had probably caught on the second he entered the warehouse, which now that he took a moment to look around, the warehouse was much bigger than he had thought. The ceiling was meters above them, and the warehouse itself seemed to go on for ever. Viktor jumped into the air and looked around, but all he could see was the warehouse going on for what felt like centuries. Viktor drew both his swords. He looked over at the man following him and made hand motions.
These motions were to indicate that Viktor would travel through the air and the man following him should stay on the ground just in case. Viktor being in the air would be able to relay information faster as he saw it, and he would be able to pin point the area where the being was, if they slipped up and revealed themselves for even a second, Viktor would know and he would be on top of them almost immediately. He had no idea what he was dealing with and was hoping he was prepared for everything.

Kvothe had covered the majority of exposed space with ripples at this point; it would be nigh impossible to sneak up on the two men even if they weren't paying attention. Kvothe dared not take that chance, however, he let his spiritual senses extend as he nodded to Viktor and motioned that he understood the plan they would use moving forward. Kvothe was still unsure of the Shinigami's intentions at this point even if his motivations seemed to be aboveboard. There were things he still didn't know or understand about the man, but the two of them separating meant that there was a chance they'd engage in combat separately and if it came to that, Kvothe was confident he could finish the enemy quickly accomplishing two goals: impressing Viktor, hopefully getting him closer to obtaining one of these spiritual swords that the Shinigami used, and allowing him to view his partner's battle style. There was nothing more important in battle than understanding and synergizing with those you were fighting alongside; Viktor clearly understood the planning aspect of battling especially against a force you couldn't locate. Only time would tell if Viktor would be able to mesh well with the way Kvothe handled battle.
