Loretka wasn't really sure she was supposed to be. But Lacrosse champion extraordinaire, miss top-of-the-class, with a squeaky clean record was confident in her ability to pretty much just get away with anything. Still, being inside the school in the dead of night to access the scientific facilities might have been pushing the envelope. In reality Loretka was here because she had sustained... Well, she wanted to say injury, but damage was more appropriate. She had been on her way home from, actually, Lacrosse practice, when she was attacked. Her stupid uniform was completely ruined, and hung in tatters about her slender frame. Getting in had been no problem; human alarm systems were somewhat of a joke, and the nifty bobby pin lockpick had been sufficient to get through most of the doors. So here she sat in the lab, stripping down to toplessness, not that her Lacrosse uniform was especially proficient at preserving her modesty any more. The damage was noticable but not outrageous. The two halves of her chest, which usually appeared seamlessly conjoined up the side had come loose. It was somewhat painful as she prodded it and attempted to pry the chest open, but to no avail.

It was somewhat awkward to have to attempt to examine her own body in such a way while she inhabited it, and as such, she stood from the stool she was on, and moving to turn the lights on, rooted around the lab's store cupboard for the thing that she was after. After a few minutes, she found it; a plastic skeleton mounted on a silver pole. She dragged it into the lab, and after rooting around in the toolkit she'd nicked from CDT class, she eventually found the right size phillips head required to unscrew the skeleton from its base. Ordinarily, gikon were transferred mouth to mouth but she realized quickly that the skeleton would not be able to accept her soul pill this way. Instead, she opted to place it into the skeleton's eye. There was the strange moment of disorientation as her perspective shifted from that of her body to that of the skeleton. Skeloretka staggered, not used to the flimsiness of this form. It was like being in a plushie but without all the cushioning.
There was something perverse and unnerving about staring down at her own body, especially when it was broken in such a way.

She could see that there was a serious mis-alignment of her chest plate that she would have to set back into place. Her body was lain upon the lab bench, prone and serene. The first thing she would need to do was find a way to pop it open. She needed some kind of car jack, though she wasn't likely to encounter one in a school. With a skeletal sigh, she picked her way out of the lab towards the CDT class, where she had previously acquired the toolkit. She'd never really made anything before, not independently; this was the first time her body, or any of her other possessions required maintenance. Suppressing a chuckle as she realized how scooby-doo and terrifying it would be for a person to stumble across this orange-eyed skeleton in the school woodshop class in the dead of night, she picked her way about. She knew the basics; despite being miss priss, Loretka was actually great at woodshop class and began to formulate a plan. Well she needed something that she could lift one way but wouldn't just fall back down the other; that meant a ratchet. But on its own it was no good.

She went about gathering basic materials, the ones that were just strewn about. A ratchet was acquired from a drawer somewhere, as were several pieces of timber and steel; what she would use to create the base. Some screws, and a drill to make their home. Acquiring an apron, for health and safety reasons, she took the welding iron and a welding mask; sparks would be very bad for her plastic skeletal body. She welded together four steel rods to make the base, and leaving them to cool, sawed the wood and began building it into the saddle that would accept the ratchet, drilling the various components together. It was no problem to simply slot the ratchet in at this point, before returning to the steel base, which had cooled. The wood didn't quite fit the first time; so Skeloretka had to sand it down until it was flush with the base. Now all she needed to do was take the gear she'd filched from a completed CDT project, and fit it to the ratchet. Taking the final steel bar, she very carefully began sawing ridges in it, stopping intermittently to check that they worked with the gear. When the ridges were sawn, she welded a metal plate to one end.

When she was finished, and placed the parts together, she had a crude device that would take the spring-loaded force of her chest plate as she tried to prop it up. Carrying it gingerly, trying to make sure her arms didn't come off, she returned to the science lab where thankfully, her body was still lain peacefully upon the bench. She dropped the jack next to it, where it landed with a clunk, and hooked the metal plate under the edge of her chest plate, before winding it up. The plate seemed to be jammed, and so she put as much welly behind it as she could, and eventually something clicked and the plate rose smoothly up on its hydraulics. She could immediately see the source of what had jammed it; some of the wires protruding from one of her circuits had gotten knocked loose by the impact, and were mangled in the joint. She sighed and retrieved a pair of scissors, cutting them loose. They were simply current-carrying wires, and so she had no issues simply replacing them with the BNC cables kept in the lab for the oscilloscopes, wrapping the loose electrical wires together and binding them with electrical tape. Not a permanent fix but it would hold for a good while before it needed looking at.

Next she turned to examine the contacts between the top plate and the bottom. There were a couple of places where the screws had been completely sheared off. She sighed angrily, using a small screwdriver to remove all of the broken ones. Everything else seemed to be in order. She felt more than a little woozy, looking at her own body opened up that way, like an autopsy. This gigai was a little old fashioned; she'd have to try and develop a new one that didn't have such limitations next time, since the shinigami she'd stolen this one from had clearly not gotten anything top of the range. On the other hand it had been more than 100 years ago, so she couldn't really blame him. She didn't exactly want to go around with the risk of her chest plate rising up at any given time so she decided that resin glue would be an acceptable alternative in the interim. She took it out of the toolkit, and used one of the adhesive chemicals on the main body, and the other on the chest plate's contacts, so that they would bond together when she closed the chest.
And that was what she did. Now re-aligned, it shut flush on smooth hydraulics. She bandaged it up to give the glue sometime to set, before popping her pill back into her mouth, and awakening with a sharp intake of breath. She felt a slight burning sensation in her joints but mostly, she was right as rain again, and pain free. She swung her legs off of the desk and set to work re-uniting Skeloretka with her stand, humming all the while. When done, she returned everything to its rightful place, but decided to bring the make-shift jack home with her, in case she ever needed to do more maintenance.
Leaving the school via an open window, not bothering to lock the doors, expecting that most likely, they wouldn't notice, Loretka made her way home.
