Factions

This isn't an official staff response just my thoughts as a member and member of staff.

First off factions are perfectly fine, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. We don't really allow (and to a lesser extent no one really acknowledges or respects) one man factions. This is the kind of thing where someone makes a character and immediately declares that they have a faction with an army, a base of operations, etc and so forth without ever having actually done anything.

2. I'm not really sure what you mean by effect the canon. If you make a faction the right way (which I'll get into) you can certainly effect the site and interact with canons etc. If you want an example you can look at Bear's group "Olympus" which is currently running its own plot which, if it succeeds, will involve canon elements. If you're referring to canon past events then you're correct in that you cannot effect them. You couldn't, for example, say your faction existed at the time of the Gotei/Vandenreich war and fought on one side.

3. If you do make a faction there isnt anything you have to add to your profile to signify this, but you can if you want to.

4. @gage While Naruki still exists, we've kinda wiped the site version of Xcution. People can still exist who were a part of it when it existed, but it no longer has any organized group.


How to effectively make a faction:

1. Faction should be primarily OC characters. This is pretty obvious with what I mentioned above with the "one man factions" thing.

2. Faction formation and growth should be threaded out. Again fairly obvious. Of you actually get a group of characters together, and plot out their interaction and works then you can do some cool stuff. Including stuff like getting your own board as a base of operations (eventually, but this takes time and effort).

3. Faction should have some kind of ideal or purpose. Grouping up a bunch of strong characters for a dick wave off with the Gotei 13 is all well and good. But for the most part "We want to fuck shit up" shouldn't be your mission statement. There should be some kind of IC goal the group actually works towards. This helps with plot and keeping a faction together and interesting.
