Vanessa couldn't help be hurt by the words of her compatriots in the SRDI. Sure, she wasn't really one of them... But at this point, they were her family, her home. She lived with the twelfth, and was learning more about being a scientist every day. But today she'd accidentally made some stupid concoction or another explode in the laboratory with her stupid uncontrollable reiatsu and the above phrase had been uttered by one of the scientists. To avoid a full blown breakdown, Nessa had chosen to take the rest of the day off to sulk in her room. But apparently the Soshi, in her infinite wisdom, had other plans. The Jigokucho fluttered into her bedroom through the window, and landed softly upon her pale leg.
"What do you want?" She asked it, irritably. It relayed its message. The soshi wanted her to go and meet with another shinigami to train some kido? Sure because that worked so well last time. She wasn't sure if Aoi was out of hospital yet; she'd been living here with the Gotei 13 since that particular incident. She sighed angrily, realizing that she couldn't forsake her duty on a whim and angrily threw on her robes, and her labcoat, and hastily tied the armband with the 12th division and the kido corps' logo upon it onto her left arm. Pulling her gauntlets on and wiggling her fingers experimentally, she promptly vacated the barracks and headed for the training fields where she was expected to be, her 2nd division training kicking in as she stealthily and almost silently picked her way along rooftops and through crevices between buildings to get where she needed to go, expecting to find her training partner there when she arrived.

The end is the only thing certain
Shiori stood in the middle of the training grounds waiting for her training partner to arrive. Earlier during the day she'd been about her duties in the 2nd division when she'd received a butterfly from the Soshi telling her to be here at this time to train kido with another member of the kidoshu. She wasn't sure why the Soshi chose her, but she was thinking that she needed the practice anyways, so what the heck.
So there she stood waiting dressed in her robes, the signia for the 2nd division liaison on her arm. In her left hand she held her zanpakuto and she watched the skies with her right eye. It wouldn't be long until she saw someone approaching in the distance. Perhaps this was whom she was here to meet. Way to keep her waiting, oh well it didn't really matter all she was here for was the training experience.
She looked around her once more taking in the flat earthy terrain, with patches of grass here and there. Any trees present were far off along the walls of the training grounds.
Nessa exited her final step and barely suppressed the repulsion upon her face. Really, Blodeuwen? Behind that simpering smile, Vanessa couldn't help but feel the woman possessed a cruel hateful spirit. At least that was how it seemed given how she had treated her blue-haired underling. She recognised Shiori from their stint in the Second Division as well as now having been transferred to the Kido Corps. How was it fair that she had been allowed to go back to the 2nd as a representative!? She felt her blood boiling even further but contained her rage behind a pristinely calm, pale face. She swept her hair back, feeling validated in having washed it earlier after all the stuff that had gotten onto her. Currently, Nessa was a vision of beauty and grace.
"Mistress Hirashi sent you?" she asked brusquely, extending her gauntleted hand for a firm, but not quite excessively so, handshake with her co-worker; if she accepted it. Her pride wouldn't let her frustration get the better of her... Not yet, anyhow. Trying to remember the message of the Jigokucho, unable to recall if she had been instructed particularly what they were meant to be learning, Nessa hoped Shiori had some inkling or something. Her blasted chaotic reiatsu, which was spiking and receding even now like a fickle tide, gave her no clue as to what Shiori's strength was like relative to her own and whether they would be learning side-by-side or whether one would be teaching the other.
"How are our friends in the second division, Shiori?" she asked, biting back the envy in her voice with little success.

The end is the only thing certain
As the person came closer Shiori began to make out certain things like the fact it was a woman, who like her had short hair. She had on a lab coat and the insignia for the 12th division liaison on her arm. Shiori looked at her face last and this is where true recognition kicked in, it was the face of her old squad mate, Vanessa.
"She did," Shiori said replying to Nessa who had by this point landed and walked up to her.
Shiori took the extended hand shook before she crossed her arms across her chest staring at the constant release user, sensing the strange fluctuations in her reiatsu. They were a strange breed these constant release users, but most turned out to be more monstrous than others in some aspects.
"They're doing just fine, you should come visit some time." She took a brief pause, noting the tone of Vanessa's voice. "Why don't we get started, did the Soshi give you any specifics, or are we all on our own here?"
Vanessa grimaced as Shiori offered for her to come visit. She'd felt strangely awkward about that since being declined the 2nd squad representative position. In fact this whole scenario seemed way too awkward and was definitely something the Soshi had cooked up to fuck with them. Regardless, they had to train. It seemed, however, that the Soshi had expected them to do their own thing as Shiori voiced the question Vanessa had just had on her mind. Her reiatsu gave a wobble of annoyance but resolved that they would at least get something out of this meeting.
"Oh great." she said with a sardonic sneer. "So we're told to come meet up and take time out of our duties and yet given nothing. What a monumental waste of time." she opined, frustrated. She was annoyed at Blodeuwen but she couldn't help but feel generally irate at Shiori, because she was the one who was here. "If you can't tell; no. I was given no instruction. What's the highest number kido you know?" she asked unabashedly. Nessa had quickly discovered that this was the way to generate a shitflinging contest in the Kido Corps, but she also had to ask otherwise she had no idea how god damned strong literally anyone else was because her ability to control her reiatsu had been so devastated by her zanpakuto.

Shiori raised a brow at the other shinigami. She seemed to be very irate in the current situation and she wasn't sure why. She supposed that not being given anything specific to do was probably a decent reason to be upset, but it also gave them the freedom to learn anything that they themselves were interested in. Not only that but Shiori had the distinct feeling that Nessa wasn't too happy with her either.
"Well the highest level kido I know is in the 30's but we can always change that today." She'd been meaning for some time now to expand her list of kidos either way. Adding another to it shouldn't be a problem, especially if it was a higher one than those she currently had. "But since we have no specifics to do, I was thinking of learning a new bakudo." The bakudo she had in mind was far from simple, but it wasn't out of her current skill range it would just take a little more effort to learn is all. On that note she glanced at Nessa, all business now, deciding it was time to put the small talk behind them.
"I suppose we should get down to it, we can help each other learn the same kido or just do it ourselves separately and then I guess... compare notes at the end." By that she meant a tiny sparring match but it would all depend on how Nessa wanted to handle things from here on out.
Vanessa nodded thoughtfully at Shiori's note about increasing the highest number of the kido she knew. Vanessa was adept enough at kido now that she felt confident in being able to learn spells up to the nineties in range though she would be unwise to skimp on the incantations for such abilities. The highest numbered kido she knew by heart was fifty three though which was a damn sight lower. Pursing her lips solemnly as Shiori mentioned bakudo; Vanessa felt more confident with Hado but whatever, the shinigami scratched her pointed chin with the gauntlet.
"Which kido?" she asked a little impatiently at Shiori's crypticness. She wasn't here to fuck around, she was here to do what she had to in order to count as having fulfilled her duties and then get back to living. She'd happily teach Shiori a kido if need be but she didn't really have time to babysit. She only just caught Shiori's drift about comparing notes; but Nessa wasn't able to commit to any particular course of action until she actually knew what Shiori had in mind. Her eyebrows were raised and she waited for Shiori to tell her what exactly she had in mind for them to learn.

It seemed Vanessa was very snappy today, that or she was in a rush. What was her deal, did she have a problem with Shiori? She let the thought ponder for a moment, perhaps... she was jealous that Shiori had gotten the position of 2nd Division Liaison. Heh, she wasn't aware Vanessa held such petty feelings.
"Bakudo #57 Kitai Rakka."
Her arms remained folded across her chest and she looked at Vanessa waiting for her response. It was a decently high kido, it would take some work for Shiori to get it down pat, but she would do it. Vanessa on the other hand, Shiori didn't know how well she was versed in Kido at the moment, she supposed she was about to find out. She had aimed quite high with this, but skimming through the book this was the most useful Bakudo to her currently. And if she could master it that would just make her proficiency with kido much better. It was a win win situation, what more could she ask for. The real question was whether or not Vanessa was willing to help, or if she'd be trying to figure this one out on her own.

"Drink from the overflowing cup! Sate your thirst on the cursed wine of the gods, and blanket yourself in white funeral chrysanthemums!" Nessa quoted the Kido's incantation, by the book. It was a kido that was easily within her grasp to master. She nodded slightly, pursing her lips. She scanned her head for how it was executed. The key was weighted reiatsu; the petals had to be heavy, and so they were incredibly condensed. "I always trip over the word chrysanthemums." she admitted cautiously. "Do you remember the incantation? It's better when learning kido to make sure you've got that a hundred percent, then focus on forming your reiatsu the correct way separately before putting them together. Kido are the most natural expressions of Shinigami Reiatsu... So you should be able to feel when you have the reiatsu gathered correctly." she explained, before a demonstration. She focused her reiatsu in the air between them, tensing the pressure-generating muscle and working the flow of reiryoku into a white orb. However, she noticed rather quickly it wasn't quite right; she wasn't sure that she would be able to explode it into petals.
"Wait, hang on a moment." she said, before relaxing her reiatsu and allowing it to disperse harmlessly. She then tried again, forming it in such a way that the energy was made of hundreds of smaller parts. "There." she said calmly, holding the reiatsu in place. It would likely take Shiori a few tries to get it right; she seemed like she would be a little behind Nessa but not exceptionally so. All she had to do was make sure she was just a little ahead so she could parse out advice, making the process less slow for her fellow shinigami.

She had a point, making sure you had the incantation down pat was a very important part of learning any kido. After all it was where most of the power of the kido came from, until you mastered it to a certain level anyways. She watched as Nessa took to it first, repeating the incantation to herself before she actually attempted the kido. Which, when she did begin to do so, seemed to be turning out well until Vanessa stopped herself mid cast. Shiori was puzzled, but still didn't question nor try to interrupt in anyway.
It was clear from the look on her face that Vanessa had encountered some slight problem and was now attempting to figure it out. Which she did, rather quickly one might add. Shiori at this point was more than positive that Vanessa was currently more skilled than her when it came to kido, but that was fine it just made it easier for Shiori to learn as she watched. Though she doubted she would get it on the first try.
As Vanessa finished Shiori nodded and tried it herself. "Drink from the overflowing cup! Sate your thirst on the cursed wine of the gods, and blanket yourself in white funeral chrysanthemums!"
Her reiyoku built up as she said the incantations. She tried to shape it into the white orb, but it was a lot harder than it seemed. For one it was a large concentration of energy, one she wasn't used to and the it was forming, the orb was much bigger than Vanessa's. She frowned and released the kido, looking back to Vanessa.
"Well that wasn't quite right, now was it." It was more of a statement than a question as she'd known she messed up, the question was how though.
"No it wasn't quite." Nessa concurred. She had examined the reiatsu as Shiori had focused it. It seemed that she had maintained the right density, but with a far too large volume. It only made sense that it would be too heavy that way, and there's no way she'd be able to release it quite properly. She felt quite accomplished that she could analyze kido; she really had grown and improved a lot since joining the Kido Corps. She didn't really know Shiori from before but she sensed that she too was growing into her transfer.
"Too much reiryoku, essentially. If you fill it with too much the thing gets too heavy. Nearly there though, look; I'll go through with the kido and you can see from me how much I put in." she offered, before incanting the spell once again.
"Drink from the overflowing cup! Sate your thirst on the cursed wine of the gods, and blanket yourself in white funeral chrysanthemums!" she cried, generating the white orb of petals, before finishing the incant; "Bakudo #57 Kitai Rakka." She hadn't thought to warn Shiori, nor did she especially care. Either she was fast enough to get out of the way, or she'd get stuck underneath the petals. It would probably be a useful learning experience for her either way. A cascade of pure white feathers exploded above their heads and started to drift down sedately. They wouldn't be quite at their full strength, and wouldn't last as long as usual either; first casts seldom did.
"Should be easy enough to emulate." Vanessa turned with a smile to wherever Shiori had got to.

She watched again as Vanessa went over the kido once more, this time explaining to Shiori where she went wrong and how to fix it. She payed intense attention to the procedure, especially to the amount of reiryoku used to supply the technique. According to Nessa, Shiori had simply used too much earlier, making the spell too dense to disperse properly. This time she'd try to add a little less, focusing on around the same amount she felt from Nessa.
"Drink from the overflowing cup! Sate your thirst on the cursed wine of the gods, and blanket yourself in white funeral chrysanthemums!"
As she spoke she began to build up the necessary power for the spell, paying very close attention to the amount of reiryoku she was pouring in. She didn't want to mess it up this time, she'd rather just get it right and be done.
She pooled together the reiyoku she needed, less than she used the last time. The white orb formed perfectly, but that was the easy part. Now she she needed to see if the it would break apart in the manner she needed it to, or rather how it was intended to. She took a breath and went for it, and there it was. white petals spread out far and wide and they all began to slowly fall down to the earth. It would appear that this time around she did get it, now she just had to remember that feeling.
