He spoke true. He was only doing his job that day, but it still meant something to her. Maybe it was simply her naivety speaking to her. A lot of shinigami would have felt the Quincy's reiatsu, then turned tail and ran. Most, Sachiko would say. That said Sachiko has no great esteem for her comrades. Aoi was one of the few she had any sort of fondness for. She was not a social butterfly to say the least, generally holding that other people were obtuse and gross. Aoi was one of the few exceptions. He stood resolute against an obviously immensely powerful Quincy. So did Rasen, but he came purely for the thrill of a fight he had not received. He had not cared for the damsel in distress. Just for the excuse to bloody his sword. That's what set Aoi apart.
"Still, where many shinigami would beat feet and ran, you came to me. Sure, you were doing your job. It still means something to me. Even if its a bit silly." She crested a warm smile.
Finally. Sachiko thought, when the boy invited the idea of sparring now. It was what she came here for. Though to say that she came here for anything might not be exactly accurate. She curtly hopped into the arena in the centre of the yard with a flash step. This arena was surrounded by a wooded fence. The arena itself pockmarked with small craters and gashes in the earth from a hundred battles that took place before. Spiritual energy radiated in the area, just more remnants of past battle. Sachi walked slowly towards one corner of the square arena, waiting. She drew her sword and gave it a few swings.
He thought she was weird, but he felt it would be rude not to simply accept her thanks now. Though he was getting a little bit confused at that point as he sighed. He watched as she hopped into the centre of the yard with her flash step, it seemed really graceful which was probably to be expected of her due to her image and stature. He noticed the wooden fence and wandered if that would not make fighting harder since he had a habit of making flashy explosions. Not because he liked explosions but because explosions just happened to make the world look nice for a moment. He had a phase though when he was young in which he felt art was a blast, but to some degree his zanpakuto Kagami feels art is something that mirrors the best of the world. So what better art would there be if they could one day mirror an explosion of flowers.
He watched her walk to the other end and make a few practice swings before realising he was suppose to join her. He used a flash step of his own which unlike hers looked a bit disorientated like the movements of a small cat as he landed on all fours then blushing. "Sorry, I knew I shouldn't have watched that cat show in town." The boy pouted a bit and blushed as he was a bit upset that he did that on reflex. She mentioned they should have a little fun which just made him blush some more before shaking his head a few times before jumping back to be equal distance from her as he then waited.
"Sachiko, I think you really strong so I will let you see something I did not get to show you last time"
He held his small blade which looked like a tanto
"Reflect, Kagami!!" as the blade doubled in length and had a blue hue to it as you could see the reflection of the objects near to the blade. He took the blade with one hand and simply sheathed it as he prepared to show her his real kido
Sachiko was looking forward to crossing blades with Aoi. If was any degree as good with a blade as he was with kido, this would certainly be an interesting fight. His shikai was a bit unexpected, as was what he did with it. He simply sheathed it, standing there radiating his spiritual energy. She was a trifle disappointed, she wanted to see how he handled that sword of his. It was of little consequence, as she held her own sword between her fingers just a few inches below the guard. She held it out to the side, point it down. Her fingers flex and move with agility, twirling the blade with one full revolution between her fingers as it began to glow with her blue energies.
"Crash down, Ryūjin." She says with a cold voice, as the temperature in the area seemed to noticeably drop. The short katana elongated, stretched into the shape of the regal spear. She twirled it about a few times, tossing it to her other hand then back to her right. She held it behind her back, the tip pointing to her right side. She stood resolute, ready for combat. Her own spiritual pressure coursed coldly through the air, like an arctic breeze. The god of the sea in her hand roared and resonated in eager anticipation of the fight to come.
"Let's get started." She raised her spear and twirled it over her head once, before stamping the spear into the ground. From behind her, a wave of water arced over her head and aimed to crash down on Aoi's feet. He would have to move up and back, or Sachi assumed as she stood and waited for his move. If he did as she predicted, she would jump forward meeting him with her spear. A simple opening move, one she often used. Her water allowed for a great amount of versatility in strategy.
{Spoiler} Name: Hydra Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: 100m Description: The user generates a large body of water that they unleash upon their enemies. The water cascades over the battlefield, crushing and drowning anything in its path. The water’s size, shape and trajectory can be manipulated for tactical and artistic flexibility, within reason. It must always be some variation of a blob. But it can look like a dragon, or curve to hit from the side. It must always be simply a rush of a huge amount of water (think: waterbender). The user can only generate one body of water at a time. If the user is disarmed, all abilities are unusable.
As she prepared to release her blade he whispered inside his mind to his zanpakuto. 'okay Kagami, let's do this', he already knew about the fact that her zanpakuto at the very least was based on the water element or something to that degree as displayed by her defensive technique she showed in their first encounter. It was a bit fun watching how her release had a nice flowing hand movement like she was playing with water. The temperature was colder which was a bit of a bother, but in the heat of battle the icy cold could not be cold enough to diminish the passionate flame of passion.
She twirled the released form of her regal spear as if she was either warming up, showing off or casting some magical girl from some anime show. She said they should get started as he waited patiently for his moment to begin, she seemed to summon forth a wave of water that seemed to be heading towards him. Her aiming short of him was a bit of a problem as he seemed to dash forward as the waves appeared to crash directly into him as his reiatsu seemed to vanish.
To understand the situation one would have to recap on what had actually happened, the boy wished to block the attack rather than avoid it as a display of his prowess, and by using his mirror image he was able to tank the blow as the water would cascade and in the aftermath she would see nothing as his image would shatter as he whisper something during the exchange.
"Bakudo #26 Kyokko" It was a soft whisper and unless she had super hearing he should have been okay as his presence was hidden away, he had also backed away thanks to the illusive properties of his mirror image. Also by letting her break his image and disappearing during that time he eliminated the chance for her to understand how his mirror image worked. It would appear as if her waves crashed violently into him, and then he just vanished from existence. How would she interpret this first move as he moved around silently trying to think of a strategy.
{TECH} Name: Mirror Image Class: Shikai Tier: 4 Type: Defensive/Illusion Range: Self Description: The shikai creates an image that copies his appearance and reiatsu and pushes back the original in line with the image so his movements can not be seen when looked at with the enemies eyes. This is a defensive measure used as a last resort to escape dangerous situations. The opponent will feel the strike hitting before it shatters into tiny mirror shards that fall to the ground. The mirrored body also blocks the attack as well.
Name: Bakudo #26 Kyokko (Curving Light) Class: Kido Type: Supplementary Tier: III Range: Self Incantation: Description: Hides the target from sight by bending light. This Kidō can completely mask the presence and reiatsu of the target from detection but if any other combat technique is activated, this Kidou is overwhelmed and broken.
The water cascaded into the boy's figure just beyond her view, obscured and blurry by the ripping and coursing water. Much to her surprise, the form just beyond the water shattered. She barely glimpsed his form through the water before he disappeared. It seemed he had used a spell to hide himself. Likely kyokko, or perhaps his zanpakuto had a similar ability. The water crashed and settled into a small puddle on the ground. Sachiko held her spear out, holding it under her armpit with the tip facing away from her. She spun around, looking in all directions for any indication of his presence. Sounds of footsteps, splashing in the water, dust being kicked by a hop. There was nothing, so Sachiko had to do something to draw him out in way he that he could be seen and countered. He had her at a disadvantage, having had no idea of his zanpakuto abilities. He was a clever one.
She had to think on her feet. Sachi stamped her staff into the ground again. A torrent of water rose up and surrounded her in the shape of a swirling sphere with a 5m diameter. The water was a thin translucent layer. Aoi would have to breach it in order it attack her. From there she would be able to read the direction and speed of his movements. From what she knew about Kyokko, from having mastered it herself, she knew it would be broken if he dared cast a kido spell. It was a waiting game now.
{Spoiler} Name: Hydra Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: 100m Description: The user generates a large body of water that they unleash upon their enemies. The boy began to think to himself as he had seen her before as his mind began organising the information inside his head. Sachiko no Heian is of the noble blood line, she seemed rather weak against the man on earth. However she had a massive icy barrier and this time was some water splash and a while after that she now revealed a whirling water sphere defence. Were these three different abilities or just a simple water manipulation ability. The only definite thing he knew was that she had an elemental type zanpakuto much different to his zanpakuto's reflective nature.
He began to wonder why she kept hitting her staff into the ground and it began to occur to him, perhaps she is required to pierce the ground in order to use her ability. Though that on its own might be a trap as well, but he needed to know the strength of her defence and there was only one way to test it as hiding would be pointless once she figures out the way to beat it.
He revealed himself as he faced the palm of his hand towards her not planning on holding anything back since she showed promise in kido he wanted to show her some real top class kido.
"Hadō #48 Onkyō Shakkahō"
A crimson red hot flame with the head appearing like the tip of an arrow flew straight towards her and upon impact it would explode in her location, was she going to use the waters to attempt to defend or would she have something better up her sleeves. He was not sure but he wanted to make an impact on her so she would not forget about him in the midst of her intense training in the future.
He was still learning and this was currently his strongest kido technique available to him.
{Spoiler}Name: Hadō #48 Onkyō Shakkahō (Echoing Shot of Red Fire) ** Class: Kido Tier: IV Type: Offensive Range: Long (50m) Incantation: Ye Lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! The scorched Earth bears the mark of your bane. The demon waits at the end of the twisted halls of pandemonium, eyes filled with furor, in the torrents of Hell! Description: Fires a screeching arrow-tip shaped blast of crimson flames. The speed is that of a Cero, and leaves a scorching trail in its path. Due to its shape, it may pierce through its target at equal advantages before exploding
Sachiko finally felt his reiatsu appear. She dropped the bulb of swirling water, allowing it to splash into the ground. She turned to face him, spear held under her arm. She saw his body glow, felt him release a large amount of spiritual energy. The red arrow, the 48th hado spell, flew from he bow's palm at great speed. He did not use an incantation, and Sachi could easily tell by its spiritual pressure how strong the spell was. He threw the full speech, yet it was so powerful. He was still surprising her with his strength and expertise. She wondered where learned something like that. Certainly not the academy, certainly not in the typical courses. It was not safe to dismiss his abilities. He was a child but very capable.
She barely escaped the brunt of the explosion with a flash step. The fireball caught her just as she flew upwards to escape. It shot her across the arena, tumbling her just short of shattering the barrier. She quickly got to her feet, trying not to notice the blood trickling down her face. She saw him now, clear in her view. She flicked her spear forward, shooting an arc of high pressure water towards Aoi from the tip. The water seemed to curve from the right as it flew. At the same time, lagging just behind the water, Sachiko flash stepped before him. She aimed to tap him with the flat end of her spear, and blow him back using the sea god's winds. The spear was 3m long, and she allowed herself as much distance as it could provide.
{Techs}Name: Force Class: Shikai Tier: IV Type: Offensive Range: Melee Description: Hitting the enemy with the butt of the spear or palm of the hand pushes them back with incredible force like a powerful wind. This ability is similar in nature to Hado #1: Sho, however much more powerful. 2 post cooldown after each use. This is the only one of Ryujin’s abilities that can be used if disarmed.
Name: Eviscerate Class: Shikai Tier: III Type: Offensive Range: Pressure drops off significantly after 50 meters, losing more pressure as it continues past that point. Useless after 70m. Description: With a flick of the wrist, the user sends a body of water under extreme pressure towards the target. The water is under so much pressure that it can very easily eviscerate flesh and even cut down a tree with repeated hits. As before, the function remains the same but the shape of the body of water can be manipulated within logical reason. The function, cutting, remains the same always. Again as before, only one object at a time and if the user is disarmed they can not use any abilities.
She did something he never expected, why was she lowering her defence when he was attacking as there was no way to pull back the attack he just decided to believe in her ability and try to think of a tactic since it was clear this was not simply some ordinary defensive technique. She must have been distracted by something as he figured she would at least have been able to completely avoid that attack or block it with the water technique she used before. Was she trying to hide the true abilities of her zanpakuto as he watched blood dripping before realising she had moved out of the way with a well timed flash step.
However he was a bit shocked as she crashed into the barrier as he remembered that this was his current strongest kido, however he did not see anything wrong with using his most powerful technique against a girl, or a friend, especially when he believed her to be too strong to go down from something like that. She flicked her spear and water shot from the tip and that is when something occurred to him, the spear tip hitting into the ground several times, the water was always shot from the tip of her spear. Though that alone was too minor for him to use, at least not at his current level of skill. He was watching the technique curve towards the right and he began to wonder what she was planning as she followed the water. Was she going to reinforce the water from behind so he could use his mirror image again.
He heard a familiar sound, though it was a bit too late to do something spectacular as he simply pulled back a bit raising his arms up in a full block with his knees also raised to try and stop her attack since he was a bit unprepared. He flew towards the barrier as he crashed hard against it as he cried out in pain slightly his mouth wide open as the saliva flew into the air. He fortunately was not bleeding but he nearly lost consciousness for a moment as he fell to the ground crashing hard. He was coughing a bit as he was struggling to his feet, he was not really good at dealing with hand to hand combat. He took a heavy breath as he struggled to his feet. Would she even allow him a chance to recover now that she had an opening.
Aoi had shown her Onkyo Shakkaho. A mid level spell, though quite powerful. It was a spell easily in the range of strength as a hollow's cero. It certainly felt like it. Its intensity and speed. Even without its incantation, he still loosed the spell at full force. He displayed his strength, certainly impressive. But strength could only afford so much. The mind made up for perhaps a lack of a certain amount of power. She had no doubt Aoi was just as capable. Aoi had shown her what he was capable of, now she had shown him. Though she had quite a bit more to show. It might need to be saved for later, though. Or for another opponent. A simple spar was not the time to throw her full strength into it.
She used flashstep to close the distance. He was on the ground. Her previous attack had done a number, perhaps harder than she had intended. The girl stood over the collapsed boy, readying her spear for a strike. She brought it down, pulling the force at just the last moment. A poke. A playful tap to assert the fact that this ‘round’ belonged to her. “I win this round. Sorry if I hit you a bit hard. Wanna keep going?”
The boy was in shock as he looked up as she said those words to him, without any doubt in her mind as he felt a bomb drop on him as if to say all his time in the academy was wasted. He began to wonder if there was somewhere that he belonged where he was actually needed. He only found trouble and was not strong enough to solve any of it on his own, he did not understand why he could be so good in kido. His kido skill alone was exceptional, but he usually lost out in all other areas whether it was hand to hand combat or better use of their shikai he could not tell.
He had faced off against Nessa who he had beaten in kido and realising this she decided to break through with brute force followed by some nasty kido after he had suffered heavy damage from her fist. He also had a somewhat good fight against Rasen of the eleventh squad who was inferior to him, but used the brute force of his zanpakuto and his iron will to gain an upperhand. He knew he could have won, but the chances of losing were so great it made him doubt himself so he quit while he was ahead.
How could he face her if he gave up so easily as he looked up to her some what teary eyed, however a fiery determined passion had lit up inside him as he looked down to the side like a stubborn little boy.
"Sachiko, can we go again please" as he had a face that was ready to burst into tears if she rejected his request
"That's what I like to hear." Sachiko could not help but smile. He was determined and strong. She had to respect him. Aoi had taken a hard hit, from one of her most powerful techniques. He did not even want to pause for a breath. He was ready and rearing to get back into the fight. Sachiko, still ignoring the trickle the of blood on her face, was content to see how well he handled himself in other areas of combat. She glanced his sword, sitting comfortably in its sheath. She tapped it with the flat of her spear's blade. "I want to see how well you handle a sword."
She turned and walked to the middle of the arena area. She stood with her spear ready, holding it under her arm. The tip of the blade trickled blue reiryoku like a tap had been opened. Fighting with her spear was more her style. Kido and her techniques were more to support her physical combat abilities. As Aoi would soon learn. Much time had passed since she last used her spear in a fight against another person. Fighting hollows and fighting another person were two entirely different matters. Still she hoped to show Aoi how she really fought.
"Ready when you are." Her face become hard as stone. Focused as she now was, awaiting his attack.
He was a bit shocked as the tears that seemed to be just about to form just got flicked of by a blink of shock that she was glad to hear. He blushed as he was a bit happy that she agreed so easily rather then babying him too much like some people he knew. Her smile was beautiful like a rainbow reflected upon her face with more substance then colours.
She tapped his sword with her spear as he blushed and nearly felt like he would collapse as his heart began to race, it was not fear of her weapon it was genuine confusion and to some degree her getting really deep inside the small space deep within his broken heart. He was confused as she turned to walk to the middle of the arena as he thought to himself that he really did not know what to make of her. What was this warm feeling and this excitement that burns so bright like he was lost in a light and forgotten in a fight. The rhyming thought narrative of his zanpakuto was a bit on the cheesy side, but the small boy did not know this as he was too lost in this wonderful world of Sachiko.
He then wondered why she always held her spear under her arm and he then wondered why it was that he could not even move at this moment. She was waiting for him as he slowly unsheathed his blade, but resealed his zanpakuto as he wished to focus on efficiency over raw power as he held the small blade in a reverse hold like a ninja holding a dagger as he began skipping for a bit
"Bakudo #26 Kyokko"
As he vanished mid skip a sound could be heard as he appeared next to her slashing at her side just above her hip with his blade like an assassin. This was more something he picked up after training in order to combat against shinigami like Nessa. The look in the boy's eyes actually seemed like he was full of eagerness, but there was something that his eyes and his words could not reflect. The true emotions of Aoi the small boy and Kagami the mirror that reflected him and in turn had no self of its own.
{Techs}Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps) Class: Stepping Type: Stepping Range: N/A Tier: I Description: A movement technique that allows the user to move extremely quickly over short distances. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. Therefore what determines the level of skill in a user for Shunpo is best characterized by how fast one can get from A to B in the least amount of steps.
