| Arai 'Toda' Takanori | "All the things you seek: hard work, guts, faith. I'll crush them all." | toda || Male || bi-sexual || Adjucas Twenty-four || eighteen || one-thousand seventy three |
APPEARANCE It'd make the most sense to start with his body, he stands at a surprisingly average stature, six foot and three inches if you want to be exact about it. His skin color is very porcelain, it has never been another color before, all his life it'd been like that, only every now and then differing in shades lighter and darker than the one he normally wore. Toda's skin is very soft, he seems to take good care of himself either way, he doesn't have ashy elbows or anything of the sort. His body is not bulky, nor too muscular, if anything he has a lean athletic build upon this body of his. Both his arms and legs are lean, and he doesn't seem to have too much fat on his body, he was only weighing around one-hundred eighty anyways so it would to be expected you would not be able to see really any fat from his body. His abdominal muscles are protruding from his abdominal area, or this is just another way to say he doesn't have a large gut. It looks like he drank his milk as a child to say the least, his body is sturdy, his skeletal system of his body are thick and strong, it won't be too easy to get a clean cut.
His hair color is quite peculiar, or he thinks it is, who thinks black hair is normal anyways? To be honest Arai just finds pure black hair awkward. This hair seems to be normal, nothing too weird other than the color, the boy has rather short hair, average for most men at least.. It goes down to about a few inches below the nape of his neck around the end it seems to be more of mess than it is near the top of his head, he doesn't seem to go all the way through with brushing his hair. The texture of his hair is soft and fluffy, not greasy to the touch, more of a soft feeling you don't mind touching, not something you revolt in disgust at. It isn't a messy bed head either, it looked like he cared what he looked like in the morning so he but a comb through it. The male's eye color isn't too normal either, it is akin to a color of a radiant gold, it is much brighter than any shade a normal human or person has. Toda's facial structure is slim, his cheek bones seem sharp, overall he is a good-looking from his own personal opinion.
As he is an Arrancar, like all the other's he has a hole on his body. It is actually, quite literally, right over where his heart should be.
PERSONALITY --// Likes It's something about a good book that just gets Toda in a good mood, when he reads it's like entering a whole other world that is so close, but at the same time so far away. Something that until you read it, and it came to life, you would of never thought that it was possible to do something like that. He likes to read stories as well as things just for his own knowledge, could be something from the soul society or anything from the human world. Speaking of the human world, he tends to like books from the human world better because they seem to have more of an imagination than books in the soul society, most people here seemed grim which is boring for Toda, who wants to hang out with a grim person that is just out of beat, a bore to be around, and overall just annoying.
When Toda sees a cloud moving along in the sky it's just something about it that makes him want to stop and stare for a while, just the big puffy cloud in the sky that flows in the wind connects with him. He kind of wants to be like a cloud, moving along with the flow without a care in the world that just feels so relaxing like he could fall asleep in the wind. When he sees a dark cloud it reminds him of how when someone is depressed, even if something darkens up the sky, there is always something brighter than that beyond and eventually the dark clouds you see now will be of no more. Although when he sees a large cloud in the sky it reminds him of when someone, or thing, is strong. And then a smaller cloud is in the way of the larger could, the larger cloud will absorb it and the small one shall be of no more. It reminds him of life, survival of the fittest.
He loves to show off his strength in any way he possible can, be it in a fight, in a sport, or just doing it period. He doesn't mind if he shows his mental fortitude, or his physical strength. The feeling of giving someone the impression of being perfect is the best thing he can do in his book. By doing something like this it gives him more pride in his own abilities, and in the work that he does for himself, and others. Competition is just a means to show off, he does not use it to test his strength in any way, shape, or form. By doing something as simple as this his pride grows and grows into something like arrogance. Arrogance while not exactly a good thing, provides confidence.
The concept of strength is something Toda adores, if someone has this then they are a god, unbeatable, they can live forever. He lives by strength, he believes that if someone dies they died because they were not strong enough to keep on living, therefore he becomes stronger and stronger. But Today does not only adore strength in a physical way - but a mental way as well. When someone is strong in the physical sense they can push people around, when someone is strong in a mental sense they can use that to manipulate people. But when someone is strong in both the way of physique and intellect, they can overcome any obstacle, be it a roadblock, or another person.
He is a perfectionist, he takes his time with his work so he can perfect it. He hates it when he asks someone to do something, they do it, and they do it in a bad way, an imperfect way. He sees it as if they do that, they are untrustworthy and he should of just done the job himself in the end. Not only that, but the idea of, 'taking his time' also comes in handy on jobs, it helps him focus on the problem at hand so he can get the job done, an exterminate any and all targets he has. The all ties around back to his concept that the weak die, and the strong live. To lives, you must become strong, and to become strong you must take your time in everything you do.
--//Dislikes One thing Today absolutely hates with a passion is noisy people, people that are obnoxious, that honestly just don't know when to shut the hell up and know when someone doesn't feel like responding. Or when someone tries to talk to another but in the end they just find the other over-bearing and they won't stop. Honestly the only thing Toda has a problem with these types of people is because they tend to be the type of people that talk too much. Arrogance is a disgusting flaw in his eyes even though that he himself has a fair amount of arrogance within his own heart. He has accepted that he has a disgusting flaw, but when you are too egotistical too see the truth it just isn't the same from knowing, and not caring.
One thing that just grinds Toda's gears is when he finds a nice place to read outside and then someone comes along and ruins it by making the place noisy. When someone disturbs him from sleeping, reading, or any of his other hobbies he tends to want to get rid of the person. Not because they did anything wrong, just because they decided to come in on his own time when he was not doing any work and mess with him, it was annoying. But when he is around a group of people that are nothing but loud it gets on his nerves, it makes him just want to grab the person and yell at them non-stop until they shut up and all of them quieted down. While could they just let it go and relax? Maybe read a book? Hell they could borrow one of his, he had tons of them anyways.
When people whine it drives Today insane, why can't they just do their job and do it right? If they can't do their own job as someone asks, they shouldn't even have the right of calling of pride itself, they should be stomped on and left in the dirt. He grew up with the concept of, if someone of higher stature than yourself tells you to do something, you do it, you do it right, and you do it no matter what. Now that he is a Rogue not many people can ever tell him what to do, he likes telling others what to do more than anything because it shows that he has come far from where he started. Another part of whining he hates is if you get it done, and get it done good, then it won't take long at all. He wants to be a winner, so something like that is not in his dictionary, that is the attitude of a quitter, and someone who when faced with a challenge, cannot overcome it causing their incoming death to be closer and closer.
Getting onto one of the most abstract things he dislikes is gossip, it is something basically any community has, be it the Arrancar, be it the Shinigami, or be it the world itself. Gossip is a mean used to make others feel better about themselves when they know something is wrong. Whether the concept of wrong means they did something in a wrong way, or they did something wrong in a moral way. Gossip is also another means of making others feel bad about themselves, something that Toda no matter what hates, is when someone doesn't deal with the problem at hand and would rather talk about others behind their back. All it causes is drama, when if you would of just dealt with the problem at hand nothing like that would of ever happened, and no one would have to of been hurt in the process.
As he likes strength, one thing he highly dislikes is weakness. If someone dies he thinks it is because of their own weakness, if he dies he cannot complain, he died because he could not overcome his own weakness. His way of philosophy, and way of life, are centered around strength, who is strong than the other, it is actually a rather large pride problem with him. His pride gets in the way of things, because if it's not perfect it's horrible. And that is actually one of his weaknesses, the concept of weakness itself is a weakness to him. Because if it's not perfect, it has a weakness. Normally he copes with loss of a loved one with they were weak, so they could not survive in this, 'dog-eat-dog' world. But in the same sense it is also how he deals with remorse over his killings, seeming like a tough person on the outside it is nothing but far from the truth.
--//Flaws Toda is known to have a rather short fuse over everything else. When he is insulted, he would simply insult back and then some. When someone steps on his toe, he simply steps on the others toe even harder. If someone was to try and attack him, he would kill them, unless it was obviously not meant to kill, then he would only mortally harm them. The fact of the matter isn't that he is quick to anger, but rather what he does when someone angers him quickly, he doesn't appreciate it when someone does it off the bat. Because then he has to show other people the side of him that he doesn't like, the side of him that is a rude hard ass. Now with his short fuse, add the to a monster that is inside of him, if that monster takes control of his anger, and fuels his rage, he could go berserk. So most of the time he normally tries to keep himself as calm as he possible can be at all times. Just sometimes there are those certain people that he just can't even handle.
--//Habits Due to his own impatience he devolved a habit to where he tends to tap his foot on the ground. This is known to be his reaction to many things. Of a few, they tend to consist of: telling you to hurry up, when he happens to be highly annoyed by someone, when someone just in the end want freaking hurry up! As he is impatient, when it gets to a point he just becomes all out rude and at that point purposely taps his foot harder, louder, and faster to show that he wants them to hurry up.
--//Fears A deep fear of Toda's is that he would become weak. As he believes that in this world one of two things happen to the weak. They either die, or come to the mercy of the stronger one, and he fears nothing more than being in that position. Even death itself does not compare to being at the mercy of a stronger one. That is also why he never stops trying to strength himself, any chance he can get to be stronger, to transcend the level that he has now, he'd take it no matter the risk. He sees it as if he is not strong enough to combat a whole army of people by himself, than he is not strong enough, he has to face the reality that he may be in the world alone against every one day. So he never stops thinking of getting stronger, Toda makes sure that no matter what he stays on top and he stays the strong.
Going a time without having any friends made Toda realize, even if they are weak, it is nice to have a friend to speak to. Hell he'd even settle for an acquaintance as long as he could speak to them. The Arrancar fears that if he gains a friend, and something happens to them and they meet an ill fate, that others wont want to be friends with him. Therefore when a friend is lost he normally grieves and beats himself up much more than others. Normally he thinks to himself: 'What if I were there', 'I should have been there', 'Why did you have to die?', and anything similar to the such. He feels pain when someone he holds dear dies, this also causes him to hate loneliness.
Now he does fear death, but it is not the thing that he fears most out of anything. Everyone has death, and Toda has accepted that, however that does not stop him from fearing such a strong thing. Death itself takes everyone, therefore it is strong, but if Toda can become stronger than the grips of death, stronger so that no one in the entire world can show him death. Stronger so that he shows everyone else the way to Death's door. If he can do that, than by all means it is possible that he will never be killed, that is why his belief is the way it is, so as long as he believes that he must become stronger, he will continue to become stronger not even knowing the limit to how strong he should be. He will always think of himself as inferior to death as it is all around him, therefore if he always feels inferior, he will forever try and become stronger.
HISTORY Before the male was a Arrancar, Toda was born in the mid 300s, to be exact Toda was born within the Eastern Jin Dynasty, son of a simple peasant. It just so happens that 342 was the year Jin Cheng Di was killed, Toda was born only two days after, 28 July 342. Give a simple life, simple people, being raised within a simple way. Naoaki's father was a grain farmer, so Toda had to live day-to-day, not going to school as the boy had to stay home and work every day to help his father. This started at the young age of six, he couldn't do much, but at least he could help carry water or other odd jobs. Toda was the only child of his parents due to China's 'One-Child' policy. His mother was also a simple peasant, nothing extravagant about his life, he was not an outcast, he was not any form of amazing, just a simple rice farmer who didn't go to school.
One night during his childhood, he couldn't of been at the age of nine, more like seven, only a year that he had been working with his father. There had been a raid, a group of some kind of rogue ronin appeared out of nowhere within his village, and they told the leader to give them everything. They asked real nicely at first, but the second time they were not as nice, they began to slide and dice people on sight, no longer asking for permission for things. It seemed that their patience had ran thin a bit too quickly, like they had happened to of planned it, like it was not a spur of the moment type of thing. There was a small group of men, possibly around the number of six, but they seemed too well trained to just of been some kind of random group of bandits, who were they?
As the bandits went house-by-house, separating the males from the females and killing anyone who tried to attack. They left the dead where they had been shot or sliced down, looting the body, and then leaving them there. And as for the people they didn't kill, they mortally wounded them, making it so they would remember to be more respectful to their oncoming attackers, then put the people who fought back in a certain group. As the looters went through the houses and put the stuff they found worth any of value on their horses, and their storage cart. After a moment one of the men sighed and began to ride away, he took the females and males in certain places, it seemed like they were being taken for slaves, as for the females it might of been a bit too obvious what they would be used for. However Naoaki was safe due to the fact he lived on a farm, due to the fact he lived outside the town with his family.
When he thought they had gone and passed their house he screamed in joy and smiled, going over to the lantern and turned it on running over to his father. The furious father of Toda slapped the boy's hand and tried to put out the lantern before the so-called 'bandits' could see. However to no avail they showed up moments later, his father had grabbed their weapon, it was a long katana. What was his father doing? There was no way a peasant could fight a ronin with his style of weapon, not to mention he was a trained killer! As one of the larger males dashed at him with a devious smile, Toda's father simply quick-stepped to the right and leaned forward shoving his blade deep with his chest, soon pulling out letting the fat lard fall on the ground.
Toda stood there astounded at the person who was his father, he had somehow managed to kill one of the ronin! As one of the skinnier fellows approached his father, the rice farmer had been ready, engaging in a standoff of clashes, after a few moments cutting down the skinnier one as well. As not only Toda, but the crowd and the ronin stood amazed, there was now two down and four to go! Would his father save them? The next challenger turned into challengers, they both stood on either side of his father, and each of them seemed to of conversed their idea. Soon enough they dashed and his father simply bent down to his knees and let both the men be pierced by each other's sword.
Now gawking in amazement as Toda's father had single-handedly taken down four of the Ronin who had taken over their whole village! Now as the second to last one tried to go over the leader hopped off his horse and began to walk forward, grabbing the other person and pulling him slam to the ground. It seemed that his father and the leader was using some different form of Chinese dialect to speak. Not understanding he looked to his mother blinking a few times as she shook her head. But he smiled and slipped closer and closer wanting to see his father win more and more, but then he said something that made Todas' father's eyes open and he gasped, he couldn't believe it as the leader took the chance. He slashed right against his chest, and causing his father's blood to get all over his body. The boy was wide-eyed and he couldn't believe his eyes, what the hell was going on?!
The boy stood there in shock, not knowing what to say, he was just suprised, his father was doing so good but then this happened! After that the boy was grabbed by the leader from his neck. He was squirming as he threw him into the crowd of males, and as he looked up he saw as his mother was brutally stabbed in places that would not kill her. He was doing it like a torture method, so that she would die but not right away, she'd die from blood loss. After about thirteen stabs he pushed her to the ground stepping on her right leg so it would break. He then turned around, shut the door and looked to the other ronin. After such a scene he said something, and before Toda noticed they had set his house on fire!
Standing there shaken up by what he had just witnessed he fell to his knees, but what came next horrified him even more. The fields that he had worked with all his life with his father, was set on fire from the house. As the fire burned bright around him they forced him to stand up and walk with the crowd, it was small, but he thought maybe they could take them over. But then as they got back to the main road the group along with the ronins were met with another large group of bandits. Toda was afraid of what would happen to him, he was only a young boy of the age of seven. He didn't know what he had just seen, but at the same time he knew his parents both died, but not a single feeling of pain was felt from their death. He was upset that the cotton field he loved and worked in so much was now burning to the ground. Soon enough it would expand to the area around him, therefore the forest would catch fire then soon after the town would not be spared by the raging fire. There was no way it would be stopped unless it rained, and the raining season was over not too long ago, there was no hope whatsoever.
Days had passed since Toda's town had been raided and his father killed. As he sat there at night, a young boy, barely of the age of seven looking down at the dirt he was starving, Toda hadn't been given a lick of food, nor a drink of water. The only thing he got to drink was dew water from the leaves on the trees. He had went with an older male, they had tried to run away but it sadly, they were caught rather soon after. Toda, nor anybody else had any idea as to why they were there, so he had to go with it and just do as they said. Toda didn't like it, he wanted to go up there and fight them with everything he had! But alas Toda was nothing but a child, he'd get killed in a second, but the mystery as to what his father was, was still a mystery.
Little did he know as he was asleep and so was everyone else in the camp, only a few guards were here and there. He looked over and he went wide-eyed as he saw what he did, it was his dead father! He was still alive?! Soon enough he gulped and looked to his father, and tried to hug him, but sadly his arms went right through him. He asked his father, "Wh-What happened? How are you so good with a blade?" His father just sighed and shook his head, he told his son the story of a noble woman, and a samurai. A master of the blade, and the way of justice. He told him about what the man had said that set him off. And the reason no one else understood was because it was an old ancient Chinese dialect. The truth was they came from a long line of people, who believed that the strong would live, and the weak would perish. Now what the leader had told his father was never revealed in his own native tongue, so he had no clue to what it could truly mean in the end.
Although at this moment screams could be heard throughout the camp. There was running around, people dying for no reason at all, it seemed like there was something there.... It took a minute, and the boy squinted but he realized there was some kind of monster! Soon enough he turned to face his father and began to shake with fear, he was stuttering not knowing what to say at all! After a moment he began to say something but his father had been talking the whole time telling him to run. However because of the screaming from behind Toda could not hear his father's words of warning. Luckily his father ran forward and began to attract the beast attention, it was after the father, so it ignored the boy and followed the spirit
The boy did what was smart, he ran away from the camp, everyone else was dead because they were weak. Everyone else died because they were not smart, all the people in his village should of ran when they had the chance. Now they were dead along with all the bandits, he was now left to tell his tale. But as he ran down the dirt road for a bit, but not until he came to a house, he stood in the middle of the forest looking at a small house, the boy only of the age of seven had a long road ahead of himself.
Toda had grown up to become a fine young man, he had grown from the age of seven to the age of fourteen during the time he lived with a man and his wife in the forest. During this time he worked for them doing every single job he possibly could for the dear could. However he had not only found a couple, but there was indeed another female in the house, their daughter who was only a month older than Toda. He had talked to her a lot, and they had kissed possibly once or twice. He hadn't wanted to do it since though, Toda did not want to stab the person that so generously helped him in the back doing something as devious as that. He found doing something like that evil, he knew his philosophy, but he had yet to fully bring himself to believe such a far out story. Even the boy himself had limits to his cruelty!
Briefly he had heard about something that someone was looking for the son of the late ex-samurai. Ever since that night that his father helped Toda escape he had not once even seen his father, he sometimes wondered what had happened that night. Possibly the beast ate him was what came to mind most of the time. The male never really left the immediate area, the most he ever did was go outside so he could go grab some firewood. Maybe do a few other things for the man. Toda had no idea how it was any bit possible but the bandits somehow had not found this man's house, it wasn't that deep into the house nor had he walked that far, was it some form of illusion? He honestly had no idea what that meant, seriously, so he just did as he was told so he could keep place of living.
Even more years go by and he reaches the age of sixteen, around this time a man is growing from a teenager, to more of a man at this point. Toda is no different, he was a regular Asian boy, living in the house of someone else. Throughout his time within the house he did many things, one being the daughter. Luckily he was smart enough to pull out so she never got pregnant and the father never found out. But he also found out that throughout the years the bandits were forbidden to come up here by the landowner who actually funded them for things. So as long as he was here, he was fine. Or so he thought, within the last week or so it seemed that the man of the house and the landowner hadn't been getting along all that well for some odd reason. He didn't know why but at this point he didn't care, he just wanted a place to be save, and a place to live.
Another week or two passes of the fighting between the head of the house and landlord. He stayed out of it as much as he possible could. But with the last visit that was going on it seemed that he had told them that their safety was no longer guaranteed. As long as Toda was there, that he would not only be unsafe, but everyone in the household would not be guarded. Toda wanted to leave but the man would not let him, the man said he saw Toda like a son, someone he could nurture. Therefore he wanted Toda to stay there under his roof as he saw to it that he was safe, like a real father would. Toda did as he asked, but the time was ticking by, he knew they would not have long, and they would come for him, he knew better than anyone else.
One night, it was getting close to his seventeenth birthday he saw men approaching from his room. He went to tell the man but as he went to the foyer he saw that there were already people there, and they were not friendly. Before he knew it he was hit down to the ground and simply kicked and stomped on. One bone after another was breaking, it seemed everyone that was left back from that cataclysm the monster caused, was there. He thought they had died, but he was wrong. As he laid there getting kicked and decked one person after another he didn't know what to do, soon he was losing too much blood to know what was going on. That was until he realized someone approached him, it was the leader from all those years ago.
He placed his hand on Toda's chin and lifted it up, talking to him in the ancient Chinese dialect, he had no idea what he was speaking. But as he dropped Toda and tried to walk away Toda grabbed him by the ankle and pulled him down, but the moment he did the person behind him stabbed his hand all the way through. He was stuck on the ground in pain, not knowing what else to do, he was kicked some more, he was beaten and verbally abused as the people who raised him most of his life watched. But soon enough he heard the screech, a screech long since forgotten in the mind of a child. Everything went dark, everything fizzled out, and he thought that was the end for him.
Seemingly what felt like seconds passed and his eyes opened up yet again, once his eyes opened they darted all around. A shiver left his body as he tried to feel and look for the stabs, the abuse, everything. But it was gone, his eyes went wide as his shaking body was having a mental breakdown. But down the road came some people, he smiled thinking he was saved and ran up to them. He tried to stop in front of them but right when he got to them and started yelling they walked right through him. Toda froze as his eyes grew large and he looked back. From this point on he went to the conclusion that he died and was some form of phantom sent to haunt the Earth. Sighing slightly he looked around, trying to find where he was. It was familiar, too familiar.
Looking behind him he saw something horrifying. It was the house that he had lived in for the past couple of years and majority of his teenage life. Gulping a bit he walked over before recognizing what he saw, it was the burnt rubble of his house. The male sighed falling down to his legs, his hands on the dirt as he tried to grip the dirt. But as he was a spirit he could not physically crab anything. Bellowing as loud as he could even though no one could hear, he cried for help. He was scared for the real first time in his life.
Arai lived on as a spirit, his lonely soul wandering the land as he happened to notice the chain on his chest. He had been curious about it but didn't worry too much until he realized as the days went by it started getting shorter and shorter. Once he started to actually concern himself with it, it was too late. Once his chain reach the last link he sat down staring at it; and then he found out what it meant. It was some kind of timer, countdown, clock, whatever you want to call it. All Arai could do was sit down, leaning against a tree, and look up to the dark sky. Before the chain got to the end it started to rain.
The chain was half a length from dying, it was starting to slow for some odd reason. But right then he heard the loudest, most nerve wracking scream ever. From behind him giant claws tore the tree he was leaning on straight out of the ground and threw it. Arai started on a dash but was caught by his leg. He turned around too see a giant beast. It was seemingly wolf-like. However it was a very large wolf-like monster. He looked down to his chain yelling at it to hurry up and end him; but instead he got eaten. And he ended up in the belly of a monster
Arai woke up but did not see anything out of his eyes, he didn't see anything really. It felt like he was surrounded by darkness, the cold voices that talked to him were tearing at him. He wanted to die, he didn't want to be apart of it, he wanted to be himself.
A long battle happened between the beast and the soul of the human. However Arai ended up being the one to prevail and conquer the hollow, he overcame this beast he knew not of. Once becoming this beast he ended up walking over to a puddle as he wanted to see his reflection. The distraught male looked to himself and tried to collect himself. But he couldn't, freaking out the Hollow would tear off it's mask. Becoming an abomination beyond his darkest dreams...
