Karakura's mountains were about as close as she'd go. Hardly.......one to miss the news, or the grapevine for that matter, she knew that Karakura was notorious for being a hotspot for odd activity. Which in spiritual terms meant that shit went down a lot. Something Ariu did not want a piece of at all. Looking from her little tree off in the valley at the town/city from afar, she immediately felt apprehension. Even from this distance with her horrible sense of spirit, she could still tell that the place was crawling with things she didn't want a part of. She sighed, lightly rubbing at her eyes as she hopped down from the tree, brushing herself off and lightly puling ehr sleeves from her elbows, covering up her cross as she hopped down the slight slope and toward the trail.
The hiking spot had been something she'd used to spot the place from afar for a while. As if, by some miracle, she hoped one of hese days she wouldn't sense anyhting from the city and might actually venture in. But...today, like so many other days, it just wasn't to be. She knew it was pointless but there was so much she wanted to see. She just didn't want to risk her life to do it. She swalllowed hard, rubbing lightly at her neck as she turned her back to the place and started back down the trail. At the very least she could do a few circles around the place, see if maybe there was an area less assfuck-crazy than the rest. Off to the side she could see a few hikers here and there, the place definitely wasn't very remote, but she just kept walking for the time being. Convincing herself that there would be some point to all this. Swallowing a bit she started making a turn, moving to a trail that moved in a bit closer to the place. Maybe.... just maybe.... she'd be able to get a little closer today.
God, Yaksha loved the human world. It wasn't something he realized until he'd almost lost it, until it was very nearly beyond his grasp. But there was always time to make up for lost time...especially when time's toll was taken so remarkably slowly for his kind. He glanced down at his hands once more, letting a small smirk creep across his face. Normally, he couldn't get enough of human interaction. There was simply something infinitely gratifying about being able to speak to others, to be heard yet again, to feel flesh on flesh...and there was something so very beautiful in that look of awe he saw on the faces of others. The fact that it was all-too-often tinged with disgust was simply something he'd have to work on. In time, he'd be able to show them the truth.
For now, however, he felt a need to get back to nature. The town was beautiful in its own way, with its metallic fingers grasping at the clouds, with its smog-belching machines and its endless light displays. But it was claustrophobic in its own way, far too many people and too many minds in far too small a place. He could almost feel it starting to get under his skin, to give him a persistent itch that simply wouldn't fade. So he'd finally taken a chance to get away, wearing a two-piece vest and a pair of long, dark red slacks that hung off of his legs ever so slightly. He wasn't more than a few hours' walk, but he had forgotten just how quickly muscles ran down, how arduous the task of denying gravity its way was. He finally felt a need to sit on a rock, resting his arms and letting them dangle just between his legs. He was gangly by any definition, seven feet tall and three of it legs, with a build that could've at best been called lithe. He inhaled ever so slightly, and leaned back onto the stone, kicking his legs into the air this time, staring up at the sky above him as he did.
God, the sun. There was no sun in the land of hollows, and even just feeling that warmth shining down on him, feeling the faint breeze tousle his hair. An arm to get all of this back would've been a small price to pay, and even that had been refunded in the end. To say that he owed his life to Seran wasn't even coming close to enough. He owed his very soul to the man. But today, there was nothing at all to do in the world but relax and drink in the beautiful details of being human again.

It was a strange thing really that she always found herself in such a different state around others. Each time she saw another hiker, the biggest smile spread over her face. Something about being near others was just...nice. Bit by bit, she started to relax, even as she started to pick up her pace, deciding she may as well get a bit of a workout done. And yet, she found herself stopping, her head tilting as a rather....strangely-dressed man found his way into her line of sight, those pale eyes fixing on the rather well-attired male settled on a rock, seemingly just....enjoying the scenery. Looking around, she actually wondered if this was some sort of trick, that some person who seemed more at home at a stock exchange would just be out on a hiking trail. Not only that but a fairly nice-looking one. Even from this distance and despite the fact that he was sitting down, she could tell he had almost 2 feet on her, and immediately she felt it.... that subtle curvature of her mouth, until finally it broke out and she found herself beelining for the man.
Under normal circumstances, a quincy would have noticed something was off, or at the very least be able to tell he was spiritually aware. But Ariu's ability to sense pressure was....unrefined. Terrible for a quincy in fact, and as the man was not actively outputting any reiatsu, she found nothing wrong with his presence as she moved in and immediately spoke up, any semblance of shyness shattered as the rather short little woman offered a nod in greeting. Her own attire not exactly befitting a hike either. Sure underneath she was wearing a sports bra and running shorts, but over that she had a rather large, baggy sweater that always seemed to blur her gender a bit in the eyes of others. But none of that bothered her, she was much more focused on socializing.
"Hey! I like your vest!" She piped up, with a tone so laced with friendliness that it practically left an aftertaste in one's ears. Yaksha would immediately be aware, genuine human or not, that she was abornmally friendly, almost annoyingly so to normal people, but of course, as luck would have it, that probably wasn't much of a problem for him. With his true nature and form hidden in gigai, and with her quincy cross tucked away and the only alarming thing about her being her weird attitude, the two found themselves, unknowingly, in an unlikely little situation. "I know this is a bit random but are you comfortable? Those don't really seem like clothes for....outside." She pointed out, that incessant smile still on her face, a sheepish look that banished any notions that her comment came from anywhere but a good place.
The words escaped his mouth, smooth and mellifluous, flowing out at a meandering tone that almost made it seem like he was reluctant to speak them. As if the sound of his own voice was something he desperately wished to hold onto, to keep to himself. It was the kind of voice of a man who loved hearing himself speak, and had quite the full opinion of themselves. He rose slowly, turning to face the girl. His skin was...pale, almost eerily so. Hair a remarkable, unsettling shade of black that almost certainly a dye job. He ran a hand over his vest, a smile tugging at the corners of his own mouth.
"You do, do you? It is a rather nice vest, don't you think? Took me a long time to get made. I have to get most of my clothing made by hand, as a matter of fact. As for your comment...well, who's to say what does and doesn't fit where? I certainly enjoy wearing it, and looking nice. There's a...simple pleasure, in being dressed nicely. In looking handsome. In being able to draw a slight glance of admiration from those around yourself. It's hard to explain."
Not at all, if he were willing to go into details about his past. But Yaksha Dokuja knew better than to try and spoil a simple chat this early on. She seemed to radiate exuberance and childlike delight, no doubt trying her best to remain sociable out of some desperate desire to feel relevant herself. He extended a hand slowly, placing it on her head and pushing down ever so slightly as he ruffled her hair. This girl was...certainly odd. But beyond that she was nearly radiating with life and vitality. Having her around would almost certainly anchor Yaksha. And who knew? Perhaps this would be the start of something completely unexpected. Perhaps he'd find a use for her, eventually.

A pause, surprise registering on the quincy's face when she felt that pressure atop her head, immediately smiling all the wider as subtlety was thrown out the window, so very clearly enjoying the contact. His comments did cause a bit of a head tilt, begging the question as to wether the clothes were really his.
No, if anything she figured he was probably not very well off, but had simply saved up for such a noce outfit. Anyone who regularly wore such things would probably know that hiking in them would strain the seams of an outfit not made for such movement. But she was hardly the type to go pointing these things out. Instead she slipped out from under his palm, smile still present. "I dont mind that. I just came out here for some fresh air and some exercise." She boted sheepishly. " I work at a library so having free time to stay in shape isn't very plentiful. I figured a long hike would help me keep from gaining weight." Technically she was not lying, that was ONE of the reasons she was here. Glancing toward karakura she couldnt help but move a little, placing the man between here and the place. Even ariund others, she feared the place...... Hollows, shinigami, all manner of dangers lie around such a place.. She wished she had not met auch a friendly man so close to the dump.
"Ah, I'm sorry, I haven't inteoduced myself. My name is Ariugrette, but you can just call me Ari." She noted, changing the subject as that smile perked back up to it's former luster, banishing the shadows of such dark thoughts from her mind.
"Ari it is, then. And you can call me Yaksha. It must be a remarkably small library, if I've never seen you there before. Or are you simply in the area for some other reason?"
He didn't choose to comment on the exercise excuse she had dropped, dripping though it was with falsehoods. Perhaps the idea was true on the surface, but there was no hiding the awkwardness there. Something else was going on. Was she perhaps trying to avoid someone? Had she come to this place hoping to escape some fate she'd rather not face? It would explain the outfit, if nothing else. No one wearing such a baggy, concealing outfit in this weather would do so unless they were trying to hide something. Still, there was no good prying, no good turning this into an interrogation. She seemed perfectly content to keep this about him for now, and that meant he had ample time to set the pace of their conversation.
"Are libraries even still that much in vogue? I imagine the computer lab probably does good business, with all the people who need to check their Facebook and keep connected with people across the time zones. But reading...oh, I couldn't imagine most of the people in that town reading." He paused, glancing at her and staring, a faint smile creeping across his face as if he were trying very hard to hold back a comment, as if he knew a particularly good joke and was trying not to speak it. He settled back down on the rock, and then gestured for her to join him.
"You know, I have to imagine I was a librarian in a past life. I have an incredible love of books, of...words. Wordplay has always been one of my favorite passtimes. I walk past a store, I notice a simple name. 'Superior Insurance'. And my mind simply races to...so many silly silly possibilities. So many incredible things that you can only do when you understand the language."

Ariu paused, her head tilting a bit before she suddenly realized, chuckling. "Ah no I don't live around here, I live at Kyoto, and honestly I only come around here every now and then because of all the mountains. My Family used to come here from time to time." She noted sheepishly, pausing for a moment as she thought back. That's right.....they did.... She remembered her father was always so happy around here.... somehow he loved it, and he always used to say that it was where he met mom, though Mom always corrected him, saying it was somewhere else. That smile only softened in rememberance to what her father had said....
'This is the place we met. Those other times didn't count. It was here that I saw your mother for what she truly was, an angel! Before then, all I knew was a shadow of her beauty'
She couldn't help but feel the sot stinging in her eyes as she almost cried a bit. She really did miss them.... But all of this she kept inside, giving nothing for the man to see as all he would get was that same calm smile. "Ahhh, I guess I'm just lucky. We haven't really urbanized much, and really attempts to do so dont go over well because of all the shrines. So I guess I live in a great place to be a librarian eh?" she noted softly, shrugging her shoulders as she gave a soft little kick of her foot, pausing for a moment as her attention....drifted for a moment. For a moment she thought she'd sensed smething.... But so close to Karakura it was hard for her to tell... she decided to ignore it for the time being, those eyes slowly narrowing for a moment before turning back to the man before her, that smile brightening right back up.
"Oh! Did you want some water? I can't imagine it being very comfortable being in that hot suit, and I don't see a bottle on you. you can have some of mine if you want. Though you really should carry some. I heard someone passed out on this trail a week ago from dehydration." She pointed out, holding out her little canteen to the man. Leave it to her to come overprepared, then again it wasn't very rare for her to be stuck out in the wilderness for a few days at a time if she ran into hollows. It usually took a while fo rher to shake them off or kill them if it came to that, the strain usually wound up slowing her travel time either way.
Yaksha stared at her for just a second, his expression cracking into a wide smile as he waved away the gesture of water. Too kind; far too kind, this little girl was. It almost made him feel bad taking advantage of her like this. But still, it wasn't in his nature to pass up an opportunity like this. This little girl had all but come running into his grasp, had pretty much made it -easy- to lead her along. And he'd be remiss if he didn't take the chance to lay down his claim, to set her as off-limits for all the little grubbing echoes floating about. No one would steal this one out from under his nose.
"You know...funny thing about that. I swear I was a snake in a past life, because I don't mind this kind of weather -at all-. I barely even sweat on a day like this, and on a cold day I want nothing more than to curl up into a ball and drink something warm until it passes. It's flattering to see you worrying about me, but you really don't need to. Believe me when I say that I'm not worth worrying over."
He tilted his head on the side, one hand sliding up and moving in smooth, nimble motions. Without even looking down he unbuttoned the vest one piece at a time, and then slipped it off, leaving him wearing little more than a thin yellowish-gold shirt underneath. The tie around his neck was a dull shade of grey, but he seemed to wear even something that unremarkable with style as he folded the vest over his arm, and set it down next to himself. He spread his arms, and managed an almost wry grin.
"There. Now can we stop talking about the vest for ten seconds? It'll keep, I promise you. And if not, it's not that important. I like to look respectable, that's all."
He continued to examine her, chuckling under his breath as he rested one leg on top of the other, head still tilted to the side and lips pursed in deep concentration. He chuckled deep in his throat, an oddly soothing sound that brought to mind a snake that found something especially amusing. And finally, after a few more long seconds, he rose again, tucking the vest under his arm.
"You're telling me that you've never experienced the joy of urban life? Never visited a maid cafe? Never watched a movie in a theater? Never gone into a restaurant that looks exactly identical to one thousands of miles away? Never used a public bathroom where someone scrawled 'for a good time call'? My, you've lived a sheltered life. I almost feel like it's my civic duty to show you what you're missing out on."
He began to walk back to town, though he stopped after only a few steps, his voice casual, flippant. And yet, oddly knowing...as if he already expected her response.
"I heard that gentleman fainted because he had a nasty shock. Came out babbling something about a white demon, with a hole in its chest."

Ariu tilted her head slightly as the odd man slipped out of the vest, that smile never seeming to fade from him as she took another sip of her bottle. She supposed she DID fix a bit on it. It was just such a nic vest, so expensive looking. When at last he was settled ahe could not help but be aware of his gase. She herself did not have much to offer other than a hint of hyporcacy. While for the most part she held appropriate coothing, a sporty top and what she called running pants (really just tear-away wind-breakers) was abruptly deterrd by the rather loose jacket she was weaing, obscuring muchbof what would otherwise be a decent ammount of exposed skin. Though the reason for this was not too dire a mystery, given the darkened scar tissue that was wound up her neck to end a scar trail at the side of her cheek like some primitive brand. It would not be hard to imagine that the mark wound about rhe entirety of her body, and he being....bwhat he was, would probably have a good idea of what had done it. But that subject was dismissed as the mention of the.... Whit demon, came into play.
Almost immediately Ariu felt a slight....discomfort. "I guess stories like that are common around here, most people I talk to about the town say It's cursed. So I guess demon stories ouldnt be too out of this world." she pointed out. Thankfully, rumors like that were rampant. If he wanted to illicite some response out of her, hed have to do better than that.
Yaksha clapped his hands together, just once; a sharp, precise noise, almost meant to punctuate his statement, or draw her attention. And now the smile on his face was downright excited, as he stared at her. Yes, he could tell that she knew exactly what he was talking about...he could all but smell the hollow on her. But he wasn't going to press the matter so severely that she had to admit to what she was experiencing. The simple fact that he knew was enough; to let her know he knew was a bit too much, for now. So he nodded ever so slightly, and began to walk down the trail slowly. At least, slowly for him; with his wide gait, she'd likely need to jog to keep up.
"Good on you! No need to be superstitious, no point in giving power to the monsters beneath the bed. If they exist independent of our belief, then there's nothing we can do about it. If, heavens forbid, acknowledging them only makes them stronger...well, that would be a rather unpleasant fate, now wouldn't it? A healthy dose of skepticism, and the will to follow through regardless. That's what the world needs more of. So what do you say, dear? You never did answer me about the...urban experience. When's the last time you went to watch a movie? A real movie, on a real screen. Overpriced popcorn, sticky floors...the works. Even if we don't run across one of these so-called demons, I'm sure we'll have a remarkably pleasant experience regardless."
More nothing, as Yaksha so excelled at spouting. Of -course- they'd run across a hollow or two, if only because of Murphy's law. Or perhaps, barring that, Yaksha might take it upon himself to see just how this brave little girl handled herself when in the presence of a creature that had no place in this world. He did confess to himself that it might be just the tiniest bit cruel to expose a child to the life of danger and animosity that spirit beings seemed to foster...but she'd have one hell of a guide, no?

Ariu found her head tilting to the side for a moment as he went on for a moment about....admittedly she wasn't sure. She simply listened, letting his pretty words wash over her for a moment, but with change of subject came a shift in understanding for the better, brightening up as she realized he was offering something to her. "Oh! Well I mean, I don't usually do that kindof thing, but I wouldn't mind giving it a try, I certainly think it could be pretty fun." She noted enthusiastically. And admittedly against perhaps better judgement. The man was a bit of a wierdo, and something about his manner of speaking and holding himself gave her the impression of something.....moustache-twirly. OF course she herself was a quincy, and a bit of a weirdo herself, so she supposed that such damning judgement would be a bit hypocritical of her.Why not simply go along and have some fun? Worst case scenario she simply would have to deal with a stalker.
In the back of her mind she felt a slight tingle. A hollow n.....no not a hollow. A Shinigami? She furrowed her brows, as it was fairly rare to sense one without a hollow nearby for them to kill. She actually wondered what they were doing around here... But for the time being she remained silent and simply smiled to her new.....friend. "But if we're going to go do this kinda stuff I should probably head back to my place to get some money, I usually don't carry it when I go out. I got mugged a few months ago." she noted sheepishly. Which was only half true. Technically her wallet had simply been destroyed in a fight with a hollow, lowing an entire paycheck had somewhat prompted her to start carrying less of it around with her.
"You're kidding. Who would try to rob you out in the country like that? I mean, that's just...ridiculous. Whoever did it must have been pretty desperate."
His response was almost off-putting in its earnesty, his gaze seeming absolutely riveted to her, as if her answer really had captured his attention. He rested his vest under one arm comfortably, mouth open ever so slightly. He looked to all the world like a man who was absolutely engrossed in the topic at hand, as if he were truly excited to be speaking to such a young child about life outside of the city. He paused for half a second, brows furrowing as if he only just heard her comment, as if the rest of her commentary had gotten to him first. Finally he waved a hand outwards in an almost dismissive flicking gesture, smiling in an almost knowing manner.
"First thing you'll learn about city life, the man pays. It's just how things work, don't question it. Likely something about supply and demand. I mean, let's be honest...you could pretty much have your pick when it comes to conversational partners or human company. I'm not quite so lucky as you, when it comes to...being welcome in a crowded room."
For a second, his eyes went unfocused, his mouth opening just a bit wider. His gaze turned...melancholy, almost distracted. It was hard to tell just what was going on, but it almost seemed like his choice of words had somehow brought an unpleasant memory to mind. He remained silent as he turned away, hands folded over his chest as he looked down at Karakura town. Something in him was almost swelling to burst, and when he finally did speak again he sounded...hoarse. As if he were holding back tears.
"I really do love this town, you know. I love the clairvoyants and the mediums on every corner. I like the hustle and bustle. I like the notion that I may only ever meet a handful of people that I'll truly remember and be able to call regular fixtures in my life. I like the notion that I have an infinite number of chances to make a first impression. I love...all of it. But I fear sometimes. That this town wouldn't have me, if they knew who I was. What I'd...done."
