She never really was sure how to handle the aspect of training. The scrolls (cliche as their existence was), often gave regimented and specific mannerisms behind these tasks, arduous and dangerous to say the least. Swallowing hard, she gently ran her finger along the edge of Spatz knife she held in her hand, sitting in the midst of all those trees, she supposed at the very least she'd be secluded. As if that were somoe sort of comfort. She actually smiled at the very idea of injuring herself out here. As if anyone would miss a librarian. Pessimism aside she rose to her feet and sighed softly as she lightly began tossing the little knives at the tree.
It was a strange task to be sure. With all of the books she had taken out, slowly but surely building a miniature section in her home about various weapon styles and techniques, she still was not entirely sure how to implement them. Physical means? Certainly. Her grasp of hand to hand combat was fairly extensive. Moving your body was natural. But wielding these things was just....strange. Each dull thunk of the knives as they sank into the bark or simply bounced away simply added to her mental frustrations. she could understand if there was consistency, at least then she could achive her goals by permutation. But the manner in which those little blades seemed to stick or bounce seemed entirely random. Each time she did the exact same thing, and those microscopic differences made all the difference when the knife fell a different way. She couldn't even imagine the sort of discipline it required to do this on the first run. But she really wasn't that gifted.
So she simply....kept throwing. Over and over she threw those little sparrows, sinking them into the bark repeatedly. So very.....different from her weapon. Just looking at her quincy cross she was tempted to stop. It was so much easier with that. To just ignore what she was terrble with and just focus on what she knew how to do. But she couldn't stop. Practice made perfect....somehow. And little by little, those thunks, by simple muscle memory, started to become much more consistent. Somehow it bothered her. Deep down it annoyed her that there wasn't a way to just KNOW how to do these things. And looking down at her bloodied fingers, she couldn't help but feel....a bit jipped. There was no trick, no knack, no specialization. You worked till you could do it. To some she supposed that might have been a comfort, but even though those lips curved to a smile, she still felt....off. A thought crossing her mind as she slowly pulled the knives from the trunk.
Maybe if she'd been born a pureblood this would be easier. The very idea was a horrible one. And ridiculous as well to boot. But even so the thought crossed her mind. Back when she was little....when they kept moving without being told why. when her dad simply broke down. With that smile wavering she threw one of the knives a bit harder than usual. Even as her mind crackled and she felt that inkling prickle along her neck that she got whenever hollows were around. She wished she'd been braver. But regrets were given no time. Turning about, she could almost taste the hollow in the air as no doubt it was passing through. Those knives were dropped in favor of the crackle of reishi slithering into Grinsen's form caught in the air. she'd regret after she survived.

Fear didn't quite cover what she was feeling. Swallowing hard as she slowly stepped through the forest. It didn't matter that she had dealt with hollows many times before. It didn't matter that she'd gone unscathed time and time again. There was something she hated about having to do this, and yet something that compelled her to do so. Swallowing hard, she narrowed her eyes when she felt it behind her. Not daring to stop moving as she couldn't let it know that she could feel it. That she could smell it. She waited, expecting to have some sort of warning when that barb fired from the beast. Her body suddenly shifting to the side as she spun about, her quincy cross glaring as she brought Grinsen to light, that bright weapon gleaming as she spun about and swung.
Surprise was visible on that masked expression as the monster reeled back, the arrows that blared out from the blade going wide, only nicking the hollow and eliciting a sharp cry as it was subjected to sudden pain. More barbs whistling from it's prickly shoulders as it lashed out. Immediately Ariu brought that weapon up to block, staggering back a little as she swallowed hard and backed off. She wasn't brave, that sudden burst of needles turning her yellow as she cowered behind her weapon just a bit longer. When she peeked out from behind it those claws were ready to meet her, her eyes going wide as she only barely avoided a slash across the face, her heart pumping as she flared her reiatsu. That smile suddenly opening as 'She' emerged. The surprise on the hollow's face was quite visible when that extra arm emerged from the weapon and brought down a replica of Grinsen down, it's mask being chipped into as her Komiker got the drop on them, her body suddenly failing her as she toppled to the ground, panting heavily as her heart raced, watching as the hollow roared out, suddenly hissing as it began barreling in her direction, snorting streams of steam from it's mask as it began to charge.
She leapt to her feet, her heart pounding away as she and the duplicate shifted to the side, avoiding the flurry of those long, needle-like claws. The sensation of pain spiking in the back of her mind as she turned her body, the feel of a cut rushing along her shoulder. Blood staining her shirt as she spun about, dropping down to a squat as the duplicate swung, that blade sweeping out, biting into the needles, the hollow's own blood rushing from fresh wounds as the woosh of air met the quincy's ears. Rolling off to her left, she barely avoided the hollow's massive foot as it slammed down where she had been standing but a moment later, panting softly and rolling up back to her feet. From the corner of her eye she could see more needles heading her way, swallowing as her Komiker rushed in the path of them, deflecting several of those stabs while the rest pierced through it's body, blood gushing out to the ground as it suddenly went limp.
Ariu's grip on her weapon suddenly tightened, and with a sudden grunt she twisted, a rush and burst of reiatsu surging out from her weapon as she let out a cry, bringing that blade down in an overhead arch, dashing toward them, her Grinsen carving through those needles before she slashed downward, tearing her way down the front of the Hollow's lower body, another loud roar escaping as it dropped down beside her, screeching in pain.
Immediately she twisted, her eyes shut tight as she swung with all of her might, the sound of that Pendulum axe chunking into it's skull was all she could sense before suddenly she felt it begin to fade. The adrenaline still surging through her as bit by bit, those eyes opened up, staring at the spot that hollow had been moments before.... she finally let the weapon drop to the ground, swaying from left to right before finally dropping to the ground, tears in her eyes as she slowly laid on her back, swallowing hard, cluthing tightly to her weapon as she kept her eyes closed, staying there on the ground. If only she wasn't so alone.
THUNK! Even with her puffy eyes, Ariu was more than able to see the chunks carved out of the tree, her stance a bit shaky, but solid as she began to spin her weapon, slicing into the bark as she repeated the same move over and over. A Spinning slash, followed through. She didn't try anything fancy. Even all alone out in the woods she had no self-confidence to risk nicking herself. With the basics in hand she kept chopping and slicing away, those eyes tired as she worked.
When she was alone at least....alone she could drop the smile.

As she started heading back, it was a very....different kind of training for herself. Aside from the strength training that was the walking itself, there was her control. She was exhausted, tired, and sleepy. Despite this, she still needed to keep her spiritual pressure in check, swallowing hard as she focused. It was probably a hazardous idea, to do this in such a state, but at least it served as a rather extreme form of motivation. In her current state, she was very predisposed to try and avoid any confrontations, FORCING herself to imagine what would happen if a Hollow caught scent of her. A nervous swallow punctuated the otherwise cold, silent night air as she continued to walk toward home, focusing on keeping that mild pressure of hers down to more managable levels. It was a tiring affair, as typically due to the nature of her reiatsu she never felt compelled to go around supressing it, but.....as was becoming abundantly clear....this could not continue.
She found herself having to stop, sweating just a little as she slumped against a lamppost, rubbing her eyes and wishing she could apply a massage directly to her sleep-deprived brain as panic kept creeping in, jolting her from her body's helpless attempts to get her to fall asleep. She was weak, and afraid, but at least she could use that fear to keep herself motivated. She smiled, the very idea of her fear having some sort of application was.....laughable. She slowly....shakily forced herself up onto her feet, focusing once again as she diverted her attention between suppressing her own reiatsu, and sweeping for others. Yet another skill she was lacking in. Training for THAT however she wasn't exactly sure how to go around. She smiled slightly, supposing she could probably have some sort of exercise where she stalked some cute shinigami. The very fatigue-riddled idea itself was enough to make her laugh as she continued to press on, sniffling softly as she wiped her eyes and kept on forcing herself. At the very least she was almost home....almost safe.... and that alonde pushed her to speed up and start taking longer strides.
slowly, she started to speed up, breaking into a jog as she began to breathe a bit more deeply, pumping her reiryoku into her arms and legs as she continued to go, upping the strain on her mind a she added yet another task. She confessed she was probably slipping, she could feel bit and cracks in the shell she was forming around herself, trying her best to keep her reiatsu down. Being a quincy certainly helped, but with every few yards she was almost sure she was drawing attention, urging her to focus more and more of her energy into her legs as she continued to speed up. Slowly...bit by bit, she sharpened her focus, exhausting as it was she wa slowly forcing her reiatsu into a lower energy state, focusing on using as little energy as needed, keeping the flow of her reiryoku directed, and lowering it otherwise.
She just wanted to be safe.....and collapse into a tub of ice cream.
