The morning sun had made its way over the mountains of the Soul Society, bringing light and life to all of its inhabitants. A new day has come upon all the souls who dwell in this land, and new opportunities to be taken advantage of in any way, shape, or form. One particular shinigami who was glad about this beautiful day was Elijah Marshall, feeling like he could really just kick back and strum a little bit on his guitar and then maybe go swimming in the local pool by the Seireitei park. He suddenly heard a deep, stern voice speak to him from deep within, "Elijah." Knowing full well who it was that would rain his parade, he sighed and replied feeling annoyed already, "What is it, Helios?" The righteous and moral zanpakuto did not waiver in his speech as he stated, "Today is a chance for you to train and become a stronger shinigami, especially if your representing a special Squad like the Kidoshu. They take their craft very seriously and rightfully so, considering that they have been the Soul Society's go-to squad for matters pertaining to magic for centuries." Although Helios knew Elijah would be reluctant to go outside and train, his sword knew that this was a golden opportunity to head out to the training grounds and better himself as a Soul Reaper in order to better serve the Gotei 13. Elijah began to protest, "I have so much time ahead of me, man. Why would I use such a perfectly good day to relax on working so hard?" Helios was not pleased to hear such foolish talk come from his master; but instead of getting mad at him for being such a slacker, he tried to reason with him again, "Take this into account for a second, Marshall-san. If you want to ever become an asset rather than a liability to yourself and those around you, you must hone your skills. Nobody is willing to tolerate a slacker nor a fool." Even though Eli had a strong desire to fight his sword spirit on this issue, he knew deep down that he was right. So having conceded defeat in this debate, Elijah had got out of bed, freshened up with a nice shower, got dressed in his shinigami robes and left his Kidoshu barracks.
For quite sometime, Helios had in mind what would best suit him and reached the conclusion that since he was a member of the Kidoshu squad, it would be who of Elijah to practice on Hado and Bakudo. One of the perks of being in this squad was that he did not require permission in order to access or practice the kido he had in mind, so he could roll right into it whenever he was ready. As Elijah was approaching the training grounds, he saw quite a few people out there practicing all sorts of shinigami skills such as shunpo, hakuda, shikai, etc. Having taken in this sight of other Soul Reapers honing their skills, it motivated the sunlight to get started on his session that much sooner. His change of attitude had satisfied Helios, knowing that his master was now willing to do that which he would have protested only an hour ago. Now being on the grounds-where he could let loose his abilities-he found a spot big enough for him to practice, and sat down to meditate for a minute. It was difficult for minute for him to become engaged in his meditation, taking into account all of the distant noise of other people practicing on the grounds as well. Elijah moved a little bit further away to where the sounds of the other Soul Reapers were almost whispers and tried to meditate again. After about 5 minutes of deep breathing and relaxing, his reiatsu began to flow and gather around him, his spirit and soul becoming energized through his meditative state of mind. Elijah could feel his whole being becoming energized as he kept his focus steady. As he was concluding his meditation, pulled out the kido book and looked at the first Hado he would be executing as a warm-up, Hado #4-Byakurai.
Elijah imagined his mind a powerful bolt of lightning striking down the trees that stood before him, took a deep breath, got into a strong fighting stance, and focused his reiatsu into his left index finger, "Hado #4-Byakurai!" His finger was crackling with electrical energy, then shot the white bolt of electricity about 5 inches thick and 10 inches long right at the trees Elijah was aiming at, causing them to explode on contact. The Solar shinigami was not quite pleased with the result of this simple kido just yet, feeling like the Hado should be a bit more explosive when it strike an object or opponent. So he read the description of what this particular kido does, "The user gathers high-density reiryoku, which they discharge from both hand. Alternatively, they point at their target with their index finger and generate a concentrated bolt of lighting towards them. It's speed is x.1.5 faster than a Bala, unique to it." Elijah remembered a while back that this kido was only known to be cast with one of the index fingers, so there must have been some modification to this Hado recently along with an incantation, "Broiling black, fervent heat, be rejected!" Elijah then tried the kido again, this time with the chant, "Broiling black, fervent heat, be rejected! Hado #4-Byakurai!" Electrical energy was surging through his veins, into his left arm, finally reaching his hand and index finger, shooting with a much more explosive force. The bolt of lightning-being about 10 inches thick and 20 inches long-decimated about 3 trees in a row, reducing them to small pieces of bark and branch. Though Elijah was pleased with that attempt, he knew that was not the end of his warm-up because there were at least be one, maybe two more kido spells he would have to practice in order to ensure his reiatsu was flowing just right for the new Hado spells he would learn.
With his reiatsu and finger still warm from the Hado he launched a few times, Elijah envisioned the lightning springing forth from his left index. He then took aim at another row of trees, channeling his reiatsu right into his finger, "Hado #4-Byakurai!" The reiatsu quickly converted to electrical energy and shot a bolt of lightning about 8 inches thick and 15 inches long right, breaking the tree in half. Elijah of course felt he need to make this kido strong both with the incantation and without, in order to make it a fierce weapon in his arsenal. With another row of trees in sight, he took aim with his left finger. His reiatsu flowed a little bit easier into his finger as he concentrated on creating a powerful bolt of lightning without the chant for this Hado, and his finger began crackling with electrical energy, "Hado #4-Byakurai!" Suddenly, an intense tingling sensation came over his finger as bolt of lighting about 12 inches thick and 25 inches long blasted from the tip of his index, speeding towards the tree lines ahead of him. As the bit of lightning shot from his hand, Elijah's finger was burning a little bit from that attempt on the Byakurai. The bolt had reduced the line of 4 trees to pieces of wood chips, giving Elijah the idea to practice the Hado without the chant one last time. He took aim at a boulder about 2 feet tall and 3 feet thick, channeling reiatsu into his hand and converting it into electrical energy as he called out the Hado once more, "Hado #4-Byakurai!" His left hand was crackling with a handful of electricity as a powerful bolt of lightning burst from his left index in a steady stream, and destroyed the boulder along with an oak tree about 15 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
Being satisfied with his progress at this point, vhe allowed himself a ten minute break in order to get his finger to cool down, feeling that if he was to try another attempt right now, his finger might be melted off. He saw a big, flowing river about 50 yards away from where he was standing, letting him know that he had a place to get a cool, refreshing drink during his break from kido practicing. As he sat down to let his body and soul relax for a minute, Helios spoke with an excited tone, "This is what you should be living for, improving yourself and being diligent about it rather than procrastinating or making excuses for your lack of skills." Elijah merely shook his head at hearing another lecture from his zanpakuto, believing that the commentary was not necessary. He wondered about the countless shinigami who came before him, being under the impression that they too had to have swords that were very preachy like Helios. Elijah never hated his sword for lecturing him, but there were times he wished Helios would shut up and let him do what he wanted without someone criticizing his every move. But for now, Elijah was content with listening to what Helios had to say for maybe one day when Elijah had reached a high enough level, Helios would back off a little bit more. Bringing his mind back to the present, Elijah had taken a few sips of water from the strong and fast running river to refresh himself and then splashed a handful of it on his face and neck in order to cool himself and wash all of the dirt and oil that accumulated from his heated kido session.
After a considerable 15 minute break, Elijah stood up and stretched a little bit in order to get his muscles loose and his blood flowing again. Hado #4 had been practiced several by the solar shinigami, and was thus made stronger in his hands. With this taken into consideration, Elijah took a deep breath and concentrated a handful of reiatsu into his hand while mentally focusing on creating lightning. His reiatsu began to flow as he chanted the incantation, "Broiling black, fervent heat, be rejected!" As he finished the spell, Elijah could feel electricity crackling in his hands
"A more offensively oriented version of Hadō #1, Shō. A silver lance of reiatsu is formed and then vaulted at the opponent, surrounding itself in whirls of wind. The wind hits first at Bala speed, knocking the opponent back at equal advantages but doing no Tier damage. The lance flies at half-Bala speed, and does the Tier III damage." Elijah understood that since this Hado was to produce a kido-induced lance, he began to envision a great silver lance forming in his right hand as he read the incantation, "The tempered Lance, forged in the fires of Purgatory, the harbinger of Asura's fury! Rend through the heavens and strike down your foe!" Elijah repeated this incantation to himself a few more times to make sure he was able to memorize the words to say, all while he was focusing his reiatsu into the lance he would be creating for this Hado.
