It was colder today, colder than it had been in the days leading up to it, for some reason it bothered Toshiro. The reason behind it he could not quite place as he closed the windows to his office, the breeze having thoroughly frozen the entire room, he himself being subjected to the cold naturally failed to often times realize it well past when everyone else would have.
It was mid-afternoon and like often times Toshiro was alone in his office, though for most this would not be a surprise except for the fact that Toshiro himself shared his office with his lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto, who unsurprisingly, if you knew her, was not around. Paperwork for once was rather calm, Toshiro having been able to keep up with it lately the papers only lie on his desk in small heaps, much more manageable than he was use to for sure.
The captain let out a sigh as he relaxed at his desk, placing down a pen in which he had been reviewing and signing documents with majority of the morning. It was tedious work and although it needed done and Toshiro knew that, he often times wished it would go away all on its own. The day had dragged on, the paper work had kept going, and all Toshiro wanted to do now was nothing. He lit a fire within his office in the fireplace, assuming that the area was much colder than he himself perceived it to be and as the fire burned the captain sat back in his chair as he stared out the window that overlooked the barracks of the tenth division, watching as each member walked by going here and going there, performing their tasks for the day. It was relaxing to see the calm of the people, to see the issues were not as strong as they often were, it was nice Toshiro thought to finally relax for a moment amongst all that had happened lately.
Winter's grasp was strong throughout the air, each breeze brought a shiver to the idle Shinigami as they went about their daily routines and assigned tasks. The chill however did not seem to bother one individual and in fact for someone of such small size and who wore little clothing in his attire, Jinza seemed at ease in the brisk embrace of the outside's touch. His body was covering ground fairly well by running along the rooftops and gates of the Seireitei's buildings, though many of the other Shinigami called out for him to stop what he was doing, the boy was too rambunctious and stubborn to heed their warnings. It was not the act of running along the area that they were warning him of, it was the fact that some frost had built up on the surface which Jinza had neglected to take into account.
Slipping along the edge of one of the walls he was on the boy went head first towards Toshiro's window, thankfully however his movements held a certain level of tact and grace that he brought his hand out forward in time to slide the closed entrance into the room right back open again. To Toshiro's surprise no doubt, Jinza's body would have crashed into the room and onto the sofa's side, causing the boy to stand up from his spot in a mess. His hair was ruffled, clothes in disarray and his sense of direction had been temporarily impeded by the flooding pain that swirled inside of his skull. Soon enough the boy stumbled himself close to the window again and closed it, sighing to himself as he was still a little dizzy.
"Sorry for the damage to the sofa..." He'd say towards the Captain, not having realized it seemed just who he was talking to since he hadn't turned his head to set his eyes upon the other person. To Jinza, he had figured that he had landed in some random building and perhaps ended up in someone's room or in a relaxation area considering he had hit a sofa of all things. Yet when his eyes turned up from the floor and his hand, having been trying to focus on it, he spotted Toshiro and immediately the color drained from his face. "A-ah, you're..." He paused but then tilted his head, placing a finger onto the corner of his lip in curious thought. "You're..." It seems that either the bump caused him to forget or Jinza just genuinely forget all by himself! W-..what a klutz!

Toshiro was a bit startled as the male shinigami came crashing through the nearby window that he had just closed. His blade immediately pulled and pointed at the landing spot of the shinigami landed, that being the nearby couch, however he quickly with a sigh retracted the blade placing it back across his back where it often resided when not in use in its holder.
Proceeded by a sigh the captain spoke in response to the first few words of the young boy who slowly was gaining his baring again after the incident.
“The sofa is not an issue. Rather you should be apologizing for the carelessness in your actions and approach. It was reckless, that is of course assuming that your incident here was an accident after some kind of ridiculous stunt.”
The captain stopped speaking for a moment as the boy spoke again, a stuttered and surprised attitude now seemingly overwhelming the boy. It would seem it had taken him this long to finally realize where he had accidentally broken into.
“Yes. Toshiro Hitsugaya, Captain of this 10th division. If I recall too you’re part of this division as well, correct?” He paused for a moment allowing the boy to speak before he continued. “That being true, you should probably gather yourself before you speak again. Gather yourself and tell me exactly what you were thinking and doing that this has happened.” The captain’s voice a little more cold and emotionless, as he awaited for an explanation to be given, something that would provide more insight into this reckless event.

While the boy was still gathering himself it appeared that upon his crash landing, he had startled his Captain to a degree that had his sword drawn. The boy upon realizing who he was talking to had then sighed. He realized his mistake for what it was and what it appeared to be. While childish, even the boy had his moments of clarity on his own actions and had the ability to reflect on them. In this way, he walked from his spot currently back to the window and began to recall his movements and the way he felt during them. When he was prepared to face Toshiro with a proper answer, he came over to his slightly taller Captain and bowed his head slightly.
"A test of my stepping capabilities. Though, the matter at hand is that during my wild testing, I neglected to keep in mind the weather and it's effect on the surrounding buildings of our area. It led me to lose my footing despite others attempting to catch my attention prior. I am thankful at least that neither you nor the window of your room had been damaged during the mistake I made. This isn't how I wished to meet with you my first time, truth be told I had hoped our meeting would be one where I could show that I was capable and could be trusted." Jinza's expression when he rose his head was defeated, apparent that the boy was inwardly cursing himself for reckless actions.
"My name sir, it is Jinza Kuzuryuu... I suppose in terms of appearance, I am younger than you but I've had many years to learn manners and other such graces as well as hone my skills with my sword, it's shikai and my other physical capabilities." His demeanor when it came down to instances that required tact were at the very least stable, he had much to learn there was no doubt in that but he at least offered his hand out towards Toshiro, attempting to keep an air of professionalism despite simply wanting to speak freely with one of the two individuals whom inspired him to become a Shinigami in the first place. "It's my pleasure to meet you and I hope I'll prove an asset to our Squad in the upcoming future."

“Testing your stepping skills? Admirable…though very reckless in your approach.” The captain said in a calm tone as he watched over the young boy. He listened carefully as the boy spoke, apologetic in his tone, not to mention the apparent embarrassment of the incident that had just occurred.
“I can see that you are certainly apologetic at what has occurred and you are right it’s good that there was no major damage that has occurred. So it is a pleasure to meet you Kuzuryuu-san and you are right different meeting circumstances would have been much more agreeable.”
The captain reached out in response shaking the young shinigami’s hand, and usual thing, not often was it that squad members shook hands with him. This young Shinigami certainly was an odd one, but considering he had come out here and went through all this embarrassment already the two of them might as well have had some kind of conversation, student to teacher.
Toshiro after having disengaged their hand shake walked over to the window closing it before sitting back down at his desk looking over at Jinza as he did so.
“Please sit. You are already here, we might as well have a discussion on your entrance into the squad.” Toshiro said as he gestured towards the chair on the opposite side of his desk, waiting for Jinza to sit.
“What is it you expect to gain by being a part of the Tenth Division? What do you expect to bring to the squad to better us?” Toshiro spoke in his normal distant and cold voice. The voice was without much emotion, but certainly no sense of anger or the like. He simply spoke and waited for Jinza to respond, Toshiro often times like to see the intent of his squad members and what he could expect of them.

Jinza watched as his Captain took heed of his explanation, the expression seemed to lessen in anger until there remained nothing, like the chill of absolute zero in a tundra. It was interesting to simply see how much presence this 'boy' in front of him had. All things considered they were near the same age perhaps but the appearance was slightly younger on Jin's side in comparison to the fifteen look that Toshiro carried. Could they have been friends long ago had Jin stepped outside the care of his home? Catching himself from these thoughts he focused in on the questions now directed towards him after the window had been taken care of.
“Please sit. You are already here, we might as well have a discussion on your entrance into the squad.” Toshiro spoke, Jin watching him as he took a seat at his desk now. Jin's green hues settled onto the chair and his nervousness got the better of him, he was on edge at all of this and the initial impression he had made gave these feelings more fuel to control him. "I.. prefer to stand, sir." He responded, his eyes trailing off away from Toshiro momentarily before returning when hearing the other speak again.
“What is it you expect to gain by being a part of the Tenth Division? What do you expect to bring to the squad to better us?” Jinza's expression changed from a calm paranoia into something entirely new. His lips kept tightly knit while his eyes closed and he had begun to sift through his thoughts, repeating the question over and over. Yet all the boy could hear, all he could feel that the question deserved was complete honesty. "I expect to gain control over the power of my Zanpakutou and the spirit that has called out to me ever since I was a child.. well, younger child I should say. He started speaking to me when I was a boy, telling me things like 'do you know how loneliness feels?' and 'There are no others here but I in this volcano.. this, wasteland.' At the time I heard him, I thought I was just imagining things but it was my Grandfather who told me more about it. I wanted answers and I wanted to hopefully learn to free the spirit from it's loneliness, so by becoming a Shinigami I've done so in the hopes of protecting him as well as freeing the souls of the living from the daily grasp of hollows and the souls of the dead to return to the Society in their proper order."
"Nothing is ever easy, nothing comes to those that want it to appear quickly. That's why I'm confident that throughout my time as a member of Squad Ten, I will not falter. I will not stop my goals or dreams by any command or word of others, I am eager to serve this Squad but I am just as eager to see my goals realized. I've learned patience from my visit to Unohana, but perhaps from you I've also learned to realize when recklessness is unacceptable." His voice had rung with a sense of confidence, whether it was the rememberance of his goals that boosted his mood or the fact that he could share them, his nervous attitude from before had seemed washed away through reflecting on everything that had brought him to this point, what it was that crafted him into the Shinigami he was today. "It's also my goal not to just remain where I am now, I aim to ascend higher, to prove myself. I hope to become a Seated Squad Member of your Squad, sir- no, Toshiro Hitsugaya." While some may have never broken the honorifics, Jinza felt that this conversation was no longer formal, it was personal now, Toshiro had a stronger grip on who exactly this boy was and how he felt and Jinza only hoped to see the same through Toshiro's reaction.

Toshiro listened patiently, it was clear that as the boy spoke his attitude had changed from a sense of nervousness to something different, a bit more open but yet at the same time he was cautious but collective in how he spoke and the reasoning behind joining the tenth divisions. His attitude and reasoning had been similar to those of his own childhood before he had joined the shinigami and his quick bringing up to his current status.
The boy spoke for some time his reasoning well thought out and developed. It was clear to Toshiro that he himself had thought of his before, not simply now to try and figure out something to tell his new captain. His ending remarks seemed to imply he was already gaining some knowledge despite how short of a time he had been amongst the division. Quick uptake and obviously containing some kind of common sense, but at the same time he clearly had much to learn based on his somewhat reckless methods he had recently engaged in. His words rang with a sense of confidence that was clear what had caused it as he spoke more was unsure, perhaps he himself had just learned that what he wanted he knew he could obtained.
Then was the final asking of a seat amongst the tenth division and the end of Jinza’s speaking that provided a brief moment for the captain to speak before he himself responded to all that he heard from the young squad member.
“Yes. It seems you’re eager enough to learn and improve yourself, however it seems you’re more than a little rough around the edges. Over time though I think if you maintain your convictions you will easily be able to rise up throughout the division to become stronger and more worthy of a seated position. However as it stands right now I will need to see more of your progress before I can grant you a position.”
Toshiro paused for a moment to think before speaking once again.
“As a seated officer you have a responsibility as a role model for all the other members of the division. They will look up to you as a guide and you must be able to take on that gaze and responsibility and help them to achieve their goals that they might find it hard to improve upon. I don’t think yet you are ready for this, but in time I believe that can easily change. You already have a large advantage over most members as is with how young you are. Continue to grow from this point out and discipline yourself and who knows where you could end up.”
The captain finished his words as he looked at the young shinigami who preferred to stand than sit and who also, like Toshiro, was very young, he certainly would be worth watching as he grew to see if he caved under the pressure or rose and excelled under it.
