Liam clicked his tongue at another failed attempt. At most he had managed to make his body glow from his attempt. He had read the books and knew the theory. It was indeed possible to convert living matter into Reishi particles and back again. It was the entire premise of how the construction of Soul Silver, Glass and Cloth. So at the very least his theory was sound.
With a sigh, Liam took out his phone and reviewed his notes. He knew that converting his entire body into light would be a difficult feat, but at this point it was simply getting tedious. He was glad that no one else was around this late in the evening. Or out in such cold weather. Because if they were not, then Liam would have to deal with people staring at him while he waved his arms around and grunted at thin air.
Why wasnt it working though? That was the real question. He was sure he had the theory right. With another grunt, he coated his body in Reishi, causing it to glow brightly with blue light. His body thrummed with power and in his mind's eye, he visualized his destination. A small patch of grass barely a few meters from him. It wasn't much, but it was still something. If he pulled this off, he would be able to move at speeds that would make even the greatest of Hirenkyaku masters blush.
With another grunt, he attempted to move from his position. Only for him to lose control over his power and cause the loose grip he had on the Reishi coating to disappear entirely. Feeling as if he had ran right into a brick wall, Liam's head snapped back. A small spurt of blood coming from his nose as payment for his failure.
"Goddammit!" He growled, throwing a fist at a nearby tree in anger. Only for a good portion of its' trunk to cave in from the force of his blow. What was it he was missing?! He had the notes down and he knew he was skilled enough in Reishi manipulation in order to pull off such a feat. So why wasn't it working?
With another cry of frustration, Liam didn't even notice his body slowly being coated in Reishi. He was too busy being irritated at his own failure.
He didn't even notice that his entire body teleported a few meters to the side until he calmed down. Raising an eyebrow at this, the solution hit him like a ton of bricks.
"Blood." He had been looking at his powers too much as a science and not as an art. That simply was not his style. In fact it was pretty much the opposite. Sure he like his gambits and pragmatism, but he always did what felt right in his gut, not his head. Attempting to over-analyse his own abilities led to his downfall.
A small smirk spreading across his face, Liam began to gather Reishi around his body once again. "Alright then. Let's go again." This time, instead of visualizing his destination. He simply "felt" it, relying on raw animal instinct instead of simple distances and calculations in his head.
And this time, it paid off. Disappearing in a flash of light. Liam's body moved instantaneously. Causing various physicists to roll in their graves. Liam shattered the conventional laws of physics and appeared once again, a few meters in front of him.
"Wonderful~" He practically purred, small wisps of smoke coming off his body. The technique wasn't perfected just yet. But it probably would be with another few tries.
"Lets go again shall we?" And with another burst of light, Liam was gone.
