When the sun finished its journey across the sky, Karasu River showed its beauty. Bathed in a soft orange glow, Roselia stretched out along the river bank on a bed of the softest and greenest grass. Bright and colorful flowers bloomed around her. Her children followed their mother wherever she went.
"How lovely," she cooed to one of her children.
If it had lips, its smile would go from edge to edge. Its petals fluttered, and its stem leaned to her touch. As her fingers drifted from tulip to daisy, each grew longer with her attention. Ever child longed to make their mother proud.
A heavy sigh passed her lips as she found herself lost in thought. Where had her playmates gone? The self proclaimed azure king and the giant ape were her most favorite. Where others bent to her will easily, these two desired to take her down. She was sure they wanted her both on her back and on her knee. She admired their tenacity, and their very different approaches in garnering her favor. Roselia didn't mind being a queen without a king, but part of her... She shook her head, another sigh passing her lips.
"Surprised you can wear so little considering it's November." An overly cheerful voice from behind Roselia chirped. If the Arrancar decided to turn around. She would be greeted with the sight of someone with even more distinctive hair than her!
Clad in his familiar green jacket and wrapped up warm, Liam smiled down at the plant matriarch. His breath visible in the cold air. Signifying that he was very much a living being. And a living being that could see her as well. In any other town this would be considered an oddity. But Karakura town and its' outlying areas were pretty much the spiritual center of Japan and a good portion of eastern Asia.
"Surprised to see so many flowers this late into the year." He commented, actually bending down on one knee in order to take a closer look at some of the flowers. Seemingly completely unafraid of what should indeed be his clan's natural enemy. There wasn't a single hint of tension in his body.
Of course, anyone who knew Liam would know he didn't care what race someone was. It was the individual that mattered to him. So it was only natural for him upon seeing an unfamiliar being with a level of Reiatsu approaching his own that he goes and says hi. Chances are he could make a new friend.
The fact that Roselia took the form of an attractive woman certainly helped things in regards to Liam's friendliness.
"How much would you charge me if I said I wanted to take a few of these?"
Roselia hadn't sensed anyone approaching her, but that was likely due to her own inattentiveness. If she cared to be more aware of her surroundings, she was as hard to approach as any other arrancar. However, she did give the boy some credit for boldly strolling over to her.
"You seem to be surprised by many things."
She did little to mask her amusement. Her grin flashed as she rolled in the grass, chuckling lightly. Now facing him, she took the time to inspect him closely. He appeared normal aside from his hair. He reminded her of one of the children. A bright orange flower, young, and still growing.
"I'm sorry, but the young ones are not for sale."
Like many others before him, he saw her children as only flowers. Finding them beautiful was a given, but hearing it was nice. Roselia considered it a compliment, although the thought of parting with her children bothered her. He wouldn't see it in her grin.
"I would permit you to sit with me. That is, if you would find pleasure in my company." Roselia shifted, clearing a place at her side for him. "The children keep their mother happy, but there are ways they can't assist me."
Liam grinned as he was teased over his choice of words. "We live in a surprising world don't we?" He chuckled, at least this one seemed to want to trade jokes. That was a good sign. Liam was rather thankful he had run into the seemingly civil ones. It was rather refreshing in the face of the many feral Hollows he had to forcibly throw back to their realm.
He was slightly disappointed when he couldn't take home any of the flowers. But in the end it didn't really matter. He could always just shell out some cash to buy some. "Shame." He began, actually sounding somewhat disappointed. "But I guess I'll just have to enjoy your company instead."
Settling down next to the newly opened spot. Liam turned his head to face Roselia fully. "Name's Liam." It seemed only proper to finally introduce himself. Manners needed to be upheld in the face of a lady after all.
"I'm not familiar with the flower in front of me. Pray tell what is its' name?"
....God. Really Liam? It hasn't even been a full two minutes and you are already flirting with her! For god's sake! Can you ever think of anything else while in the presence of a female.
Surprising times was one way of putting it. The level of peace in the world was at an all time high. Hollow kind were still true to their ways, as much as those that opposed them continued to do so at every turn. However, that was the natural order, lacking any complicated plots or schemes. Roselia enjoyed the peaceful times, though it could get a tad boring.
She noted his disappointment. He'd feel better after accepting to spend time with her. As he settled into the spot she opened for him, Roselia's scent became more pronounced. An aroma more pleasant than the sweetest pie. If a person resisted her appearance, her scent forced them into submission. She moved closer upon hearing his name.
"A gentleman. So smooth with your words, flattering a woman you have only just met. You may call me Roselia."
Roselia held out her hand, offering it for him to kiss in the way a gentleman would. Her skin was soft and her touch gentle. An ever present layer of sweet dew misted her skin.
"If I may ask, what has you out as the sun is setting? Your kind slumbers into the night am I right?"
"Roselia." Liam parroted. A plant user with such an appropriate name. Not very imaginative mind you. Granted as far as he knew, Hollows chose their own names. So chances are she took such a name when she was still dominated by nothing more than her instincts. It probably just stuck with her then.
His nostrils tingled slightly as a pleasant aroma entered them. It did not take a genius to figure out that it was coming from the woman next to him. After all, many carnivorous plants let out attractive scents in order to properly entice unknowing victims.
He couldnt help the small smirk that spread across his face as the hand was extended for him to kiss it. This one fancied herself regal did she? How interesting. At the very least his initial meeting with her went far better than it did with the other monarch he met. Sure, Cybele was nice and all. But threatening to kill someone and then locking them up in their dungeon didn't make for a good first impression.
But enough of that, it didnt do well to think about a different woman while in the presence of another. Playing the part of a gentleman, Liam took the offered hand and placed a gentle, chaste kiss on the top of it. He probably shouldn't have been that surprised about the dew. She was covered in leaves after all.
"True. Not many humans stay out late. I'm no different. I just happened to come across you while heading home." Leaning back so he was now lying down on the cold ground, facing the slowly darkening sky. Liam continued. "Just thought I would say hello." Crossing his arms behind his head as an impromptu pillow, Liam turned slightly to get a better look at the Arrancar. "What about you? What brings you out here?"
Liam played the gentleman very well. Roselia expected him to give into a hidden, more primal urge when he took her hand. His kiss lacked any such notion of restrained desires. He was either too young or far more accustomed to resisting a woman than she imagined. Given her lack of responsibility in the evening, she pondered how far she could push him.
"If it was only by chance, then I am thankful you came to speak, Liam."
Her words were seductive without effort. People were more receptive to how natural she appeared. It prevented them from thinking she was manipulating them. In truth, manipulating others for assorted reasons was natural to her.
She smiled as she ran a finger through his hair. "I came to enjoy the sunset. It is beautiful isn't it? Karasu River is the most beautiful at this time of day. The cool water splashes quietly down river. It is peaceful, and I enjoy the peace." She sighed and relaxed, pressing her body against his. "It is better when you can share it with someone." Her voice became more somber. "I haven't been able to do so in a long time." She pulled herself from him and chuckled to hide a false embarrassment. "I'm sorry."
He didn't react much as the older woman began to play with his hair. While he was finding a good deal of pleasure in such a position. Liam was no fool. The woman was getting very touchy-feely to a complete stranger. Let be known, as much as Liam loves the fairer sex. He is capable of thinking with his higher brain even in situations such as this.
Even so, he still couldn't fight back the blush that spread across his face as a mature body pressed against his own. Sure he knew logically that there was something up with this situation. But his body was acutely aware of the fact that a very attractive woman was snuggling up against him. Not an unpleasant experience at all.
He certainly didn't let his disappointment flash across his face as she pulled back. Not one bit.
"Sorry to hear about that. Being alone is rarely enjoyable." He asked, trying (and failing miserably) to keep his embarrassment from his voice and face. Oh he probably looked quite the fool in front of her. The hormonal teen he really was deep down was coming to the surface. Despite all his discipline and mental focus, Liam was still a sixteen year old male. Currently lying on the ground next to a rather flirtatious older woman.
Here's hoping Roselia doesn't try to push him too far. Who knows what will happen then?
Liam may have wanted to conceal the effects Roselia had on him, but his body spoke honestly. He was only human after all. Not arrancar, nor shinigami were able to resist her. She did find his efforts commendable, and his level of composure was respectable.
"It is a truly dreadful thing to be alone."
He took the bait. He'd soon be comforting her through the night, and then becoming her loyal subject. The young ones had more energy than the mature men. They each had their perks.
"There was a time when I was surrounded by others. I had lovers and suitors to take my pick of, but now look at me."
She covered her face and sobbed softly. It wasn't entirely faked, she did reminisce of the good times. It may never have been her intention to return to them, but there were parts more desirable than the rest.
"I'm alone with my children. A single rose does a garden not make." She sobbed a little more loudly, entirely faked. "I may have been too forward with you. Please forgive me for using you to recapture my glory."
Roselia chose her words very carefully. She knew what words triggered different responses, especially in men.
Oh, so she had a harem in the past. One that was lost somehow for reasons unknown to Liam. The woman then attempted to take advantage of Liam in order to satisfy her own desires. Understandable.
Wait a second. No it isnt! In fact, something like that is morally repugnant. This woman wanted Liam's body and had planned to whisper sweet nothings into his ear in order to gain it. Liam! Draw your bow and teach this vile succubus a lesson!
"Here. Dry your eyes. I hate seeing a beautiful woman cry."
Why were you handing her a hankerchief!? Not even you are dense enough to not figure out what this woman was up to.
"Its alright to try to recapture the past from time to time. But remaining fixed it can be unhealthy." With a sigh, Liam picked himself up into a sitting position, crossing his legs, Liam looked at the woman before him. Eyes inquisitive as he tried to figure her out. Was it simple desire that drove her. An effort to recapture her glory days? Or did she have some sort of ulterior motive.
Gone was the hormonal teen that she had wrapped around her little finger a moment ago. This was Liam when he was actually acting somewhat serious.
"How did they fade away?" An interesting question to say the least, if this woman had so much in the past. Surely something interesting happened for her to end up losing it.
A handkerchief? Seeing a handkerchief in current times was more bizarre than a human being able to see spirits. That was a sad truth. However, it did lend to keeping his gentlemanly image. Only the truest of gentlemen would offer their handkerchief to a sobbing woman.
"Thank you." She took his offering, tapping the stray tear on her cheek. "I'm glad someone still finds me beautiful."
She had him eating out of the palm of her hand. Like a puppet on a string, he danced to her tune. That was until he took a more serious turn. Roselia noticed it, the cutting of the bind she had over his will. Not fully, but enough that he was thinking more deeply. Troubling, though more enticing of a prospect. The azure king and the great ape were free thinking men. When she pulled, they pulled back. The intensity of their games drew her more and more to them. Eventually she grew to a point where she didn't care about the outcome, she wanted the game.
"I try not to fixate on the past. I may be strong, but I struggle like anyone else. Human I am not, but human are my feelings." She paused, letting her words linger before continuing. "I don't know where any of them went. Unlike my children, they all seemed to wander off when I wasn't looking. Without a word, without a trace, I was left alone."
"They just left?" Disbelief was clear in his tone. If this woman did indeed have so much. It certainly seemed odd for it to just up and disappear like that. That simply did not happen. At least not without very good reason.
It was certainly suspicious. Crossing his arms behind his head, Liam once again lay down on the cool grass. "Seems to me that if they just wandered off like that. They didn't really care about you." An apt, if rather insensitive answer. One would be hard pressed to deny that he did have a point. If they did care for her at all, why leave? Either they were simply using her for some reason. Or she was possibly abusing them. "Or maybe they didnt like the way you treated them. Who knows really."
The latter option may hold more weight. Charming as the woman may be, Liam had been getting some rather unsettling vibes off her for quite some time now. Sure he had played along like a hormonal fool. But that was only to see how deep the rabbit hole went. Would she take the bait? React harshly and prove his suspicions? Or would she continue this little dance of manipulation and investigation?
Roselia was telling the truth to the best of her knowledge. They were there, and then they weren't. His disbelief was apparent, but there was no other way that she could say it. Well, she could make things up to fit the situation. She was skilled at weaving stories that made her seem stronger or more in control than she actually was. However, she didn't feel the need to do so in this situation.
The prospect that they hadn't cared for her was something she'd glossed over. The relationship they shared was special. It didn't follow the guidelines of typical relationships. That was what made her long for them as she had. "I treated them with the most love and respect I could give anyone. Never did I leave them longing or wanting if I could provide it for them." She stretched the truth there, but still wouldn't lie. "If they weren't in agreement with the way I treated them, and what I provided them, our relationship wouldn't have progressed the way it had. Our bond, while different, was strong. So strong that it left me confused, angry, and hurting. I don't give myself to others as I had to them."
