Dr. Hal had a good point. These masses were definitely aware of us, and every single time we stepped into the room, they all awoke at the same time. What did not make sense was the fact that they seemed to go unnoticed whenever other scientists walked into the room. They observed some of the other experiments and works that we had been spending time on as well, but the one shelf containing all the samples of the mass was where they stopped and moved on. There was not a shred of interest in that shelf. We seemed to have come to a halt in our research... any further testing wielded no different result. The same electric shock exposure did nothing. Finally, we had a breakthrough. Dr. Hal began witnessing creatures, flying about town, there was one in particular that caught Hal's attention. When he had brought in what appeared to be a mask made of bone, we had to inspect it further. The masked had interesting properties, it seemed physical, we were able to touch it, but at the same time... it had its own principles and obeyed a different, more ghostly rule.
