We didn't understand what to make of it really. The matter we collected from that place seemed to finally respond to our poking and prodding. The electrical treatment to get the best response, creating the matter to suddenly burst out from a seemingly dormant state to a hyperactive form. We didn't understand why it became so active with just that shock, but it made the nine months of continuous studying and practical torture of this thing worth all that effort. I for one suggested that the matter may actually have a consciousness, of course, the others laughed... but they stopped laughing the moment it began to mimic our motions. The matter swayed with us, and even formed something of a facial expression to our smiles. Nothing could explain this... when we observed some of the matter that didn't get exposed to the shock torture, those samples also began to mimic us. It often rose a bit, and seemingly stared at whoever was nearby. That's when I truly believed that the matter we took did in fact have an active consciousness. This is when we stumbled upon something that was commonly termed as "reiatsu." Reiatsu, and Reishi... this matter was physical and yet... all together, something else. There were other scientist who have walked by our labs and didn't even notice that all isolated subjects perking up and once again, staring at them. It was like those jars were empty as they didn't bother the glimpse, or even inquiry about it.
