Shotō is a petite young man that stands at five feet even, with silver hair styled with messy bangs that reach his eyebrows. He has light blue-green eyes and pale skin that greatly resembles his mother. He wears the traditional Karakura High School uniform with his only variation being an orange tie instead of the traditional red. Outside of school he wears a short-sleeved orange and yellow jacket with a detailed green neckerchief over a black shirt, and black gloves with white palms. He wears green cargo pants with a black storage pack hanging from a black belt over his left leg, and green boots.

Shotō is a friendly, cheerful, empathetic and polite individual whom upholds himself with the teachings that his mother has passed down to him. On the surface his personality serves as an unnatural kindness that, while being the most similar to his mother, is sneered at by many of his peers. He displays no signs selflessness and greed personifying himself as being generous and kind-hearted individual willing to give anyone the clothes of his back if necessary. He is shown to be sympathetic and caring to those around him, finding that even the cruelest of people have a softer side to their core. However, he is shown to be naive, insecure and sensitive. His naivety makes him quick blame others for his misfortunes, but at the same time he blames himself as well; showing that he does not want to take full blame for something he has initially caused. He is easily affected by insults and tends to sink into a sort of depression shortly after.

Prone to emotional outbursts, he looks to his mother for emotional support and protection. He has a strained and distant relationship with his father, which stems from years of physical and emotional abuse. Shotō believes that anyone that is willing to harm their family is less than scum and he puts his father in that category even though the rest of his family are always willing to forgive him. However, to Shotō, he claims his heart is sore and that his father is a stain that won't go away.

Upbeat, brash and optimistic and he can be simple minded at times but he does have little patience for people who seem to be bending his will or trying to confuse him. He is extremely loyal and forgiving and acts as your stereotypical hero in some situations. He is willing to forgive any and everyone no matter how many times they have wronged him, something that has proven to be one of his most negative traits. He has little tolerance for cowardice and selfishness, although he himself is scared rather easily. Highly gullible and oblivious to what should be obvious he is also simple-minded, naive and quite childish and silly at times. He is a firm believer that everyone should be presented as equals and no man is greater than any other. For some reason he tends to have a very large impact on other people hence why some people are naturally drawn to him.
