This was certainly an annoying situation he found himself in. Once again he was slightly late. Unable to save an innocent soul before they succumbed to the feral state of a Hollow. As he stood above the unconscious forms of both his defeated opponents. Liam couldn't help but be slightly confused. There were several things about this situation that simply did not add up.
The ugly scar that was the Garganta still stood in the air above him. Usually it would have closed on its own by now considering the one who most likely created it now lay unconscious at his feet. The giant milliped out up a decent enough fight. Its Reiatsu was unusually dense for one that wasn't even a Menos. Enough that that he had activated his Blut as a precaution instead of just relying on his Reiatsu as he usually would.
His eyes drifted to the second unconscious form. The former human soul he had failed to save. Now knocked out and haven taken the form of a tiger. What was curious was that Liam could still sense the residues of Human reiatsu in the area. And while he was hardly an expert on the matters of Hollows. He knew that it was more often than not a slow enough process. But apparently this one had changed quickly enough that there was still traces of its old self floating about.
Speaking of Reiatsu. The energy of the Hollows was still thick throughout the area. Not enough to cause him any real harm. But chances are it would make one of his purer "cousins" a bit nauseous. Frowning, Liam considered his options. He could simply attempt to close his rift. He was confident that his skill with manipulating Reishi was up to the task. But on the other hand. This portal was clearly an oddity. And while he trusted the human blood inherited from his mother to protect him from Hollow infection. He was hardly going to jump headfirst into an unknown portal.
So instead why not get the help to do it for him. He did create the drones for this purpose after all.
Bringing out his phone and rapidly tapping a few buttons. A trio of drones descended from the sky. Another series of commands commanded the drones to follow one after the other. The first of them flying into the rift uncloaked. The other two activating their stealth protocol and following a few moments after it. All three of them streaming whatever they saw right back to Liam's phone.
{Spoiler}Name: Aerial Eyes Type: Item - Standard Tier: II Condition: N/A Description: A series of various palm sized orbs with a small rotor on top and a camera in the middle. Capable of flight and streaming video and audio from themselves to Liam's equipment.
Name: Eye In The Sky Class: Item Creation Tier: II Type: Supplementary Range: Infinite Description: Thanks to the impressive technology that Liam "acquired" from a military base. The drones are capable of temporarily turning invisible to the naked eye for a duration based on their tier. Of course it isn't totally undetectable to normal senses. A keen eye might see the telltale shimmer in the air of the drones disguising themselves. Or even hear the faint whirring of the rotors keeping the orbs aloft.
Diggy was happy. He had found a great way to get food and he barely had to move, it came to him. Hollow of all shapes and sizes willingly and blindly running over him, he just snatched them up. Gobbled them right up. He missed a few but they were lucky ones, plenty more food, they just kept coming. Diggy had come as well of course, the split air had drawn him to it with its strange smells and tasty power. But Diggy was smart, Diggy did not go through because people who went through did not come back, and so Diggy was using it as bait.
*Chomp* went Diggys teeth as another hollow disapeared into the ground. A short spurt of blood coming out of the white sand soaked red, but it did not deter other hollow. Diggy loved this spot, no matter how many he ate, they just kept coming, they did not care thier friends were dying. They just wanted to get at the tasty power on the other side. That worked for Diggy, he was happy here. The power was tempting but nothing came out so Diggy was not going in.
His Digging made it the perfect spot, able to sit underground out of harms way. His victims did not even see him coming, just a flash of teeth and darkness. This was what Diggy liked, no suffering, no torture, no pain...little pain. Just a snap, a second of brown alert time and it was over. Keeping his senses trained on the split, as soon as something came through, he would know it was safe and go through. This was incredibly flawed logic but the split tempted him, taunted him. It called to him.
Techniques used:
Name: Diggy loves Digging Class: Hand to Hand Tier: I Type: Supplementary/passive Range: Self Description: This passive allows Diggy to dig through objects at high speeds as though he were simply swimming through it, regardless of material(Unless tiered at II or higher) for as long or as often as he likes. The action of digging is more of a trigger than the cause of the hole, the act causing the hole to form before him, allowing him to dig a hole as big as he does at the speed that he does it. He does not suffer from suffocation, pressure or loss of direction.
Liam's eyebrow quirked upwards at what he spied on the other side of the Garganta. It seems he wasn't the only one hanging around the area. It seems that something was lurking under the sands of Heuco Mundo on the other side of the Garganta. A Hollow that seemed to be making use of the current tear to gorge itself. Not a bad strategy by any means. But it did raise the question. Was this Hollow simply a scavenger that was taking advantage of the all you can eat buffet? Or was this Hollow actually responsible for the unusual Garganta?
Either way, actually confronting the beast would be an issue. Liam certainly didn't want to risk his soul imploding in on itself through exposure to so much Hollow Reiatsu. If the soul of a pureblooded human changed so quickly. Then he certainly didnt want to risk his own safety.
So it stood to reason that the best way to get some info was to make that Hollow come to him wasn't it. Reaching into his jacket pocket. Liam pulled out a single coin of Hollow bait. Breaking off a small sliver of the disk. He tossed it towards the opening. Drawing his bow in another smooth motion and firing off an arrow. Shattering the disk and setting off a diluted effect of the Hollow bait. Hopefully at such close proximity it would be enough to at least rouse this one's curiosity.
Its not like he was worried about attracting other Hollows. Most of the time the bait simply attracted the unclassified kind. Those he could handle easily enough. He was more hoping that his attempt at using the bait would annoy the one waiting on the other side enough to come and investigate.
Keeping his Reiatsu low. Liam backed up out of sight. Ready and waiting for whatever might come through.
Diggy sat, squirming in the darkness, trying resist whatever burst of flavour just appeared through the split. Hollow pounded above him as they charged in thier dozens, unhindred and unkept by his feast. He figited, denied its existance, but his hunger, his very nature, could hold back no more. Diggy was hungry. And Diggy wanted that tasty thing.
He burst out of the sand. Blood and grains covering his large body, landing on top of a fish shaped hollow and tearing a chunk out of his head. He roared, leaping off and through the tear into a whole new world. Landing on concrete. Concrete...what was this?
Diggy did not know what this floor was. It was nothing like the sands he knew, it was solid, dark and...it smelt different. It reacted...different. He could feel it beneath his feet, oblivious to all else, he just stood there looking down. Different colours, testing the floor with a claw, his digging even worked better here. It was more...satisfying. He liked it here, it felt nice, not as much hollow smell, new smells, fresher smells.
He perked up, seeing a figure a ways off, Diggys eyes were still adapting to the light here. There was just so much, and so many colours it was amazing. He sniffed towards the target, sensing towarss him, he was different, not good or bad different, just different. Maybe different friend could be his friend?
Well this was a big one. Chances are it was some powerful Gillian on the way to becoming an Adjuchas. At least that was Liam's guess. After all, what was an Adjuchas if not a Gillian compressed down to a smaller size and all those souls brought under a single dominant will. That was partly the reason the Hollow bait only worked on the weaker ones. They were slaves to their instincts. Anyone with half a brain cell could resist the lure. So either this creature was an idiot, or a lesser evolution.
He didnt really say much as he began to walk towards the creature. His face a stoic mask, the colder more rational part of his mind telling him to simply subdue the beast and then ask questions. Perhaps cutting off a limb or two would make it compliant.
As quickly as it came, that thought was banished by the more humane part of the Quincy's psyche. Outright torturing someone for information right off the bat sounded more like a Shinigami tactic to him. So there was no way in hell he was dropping down to their level without proper cause.
So questions first. Bodily harm if necessary. But hopefully it wouldn't come to that. While this Hollow was quite a bit stronger than the others that had come from the rift. It still wasn't in anything near Liam's league. So it wasnt like he was worried or anything.
"Hollow. I'm going to ask you some questions. Comply and I'll send you back home unharmed. Resist and I get angry." His tone was indeed frosty, with a small hint of anger in it. Anger that wasn't really directed at the Hollow in front of him. More his irritation of this rift's potential threat to the surrounding civilians.
"You'll start by telling me how long that rift has been open for."
Diggy decided he likes different friend. He had emotion. Diggy was so used to anger, rage and hunger that the different friends voice was...nice. He liked it. There was something behind the anger in his voice that was distant, like this different friend was angry at something not him while talking to him.(ooc: not sure if this subtext can be heard in liams voice) He certainly did not want to go back as the different friend offered. He liked it here, and so had a different offer for different friend.
"Different friend, what does comply mean? Mean friends do not do different friend offers so Diggy does not know what some offer words mean. If different friend is really friend then let Diggy stay and Diggy will comply" he stressed this last word, the hope he had used it right obvious on both his voice and face. Different friend seemed smart. Confident. Different than mean friends who were arrogant and mean. Different friend knew new words that Diggy wanted to learn.
"Rift?" that must be what different friend calls the split in the air. Different friend was clever, so Diggy wanted to try be clever too, adopting a slow and what he thought as clever (almost english) accent"Splift has been open for, well, 26...43...64 hollow eatings. Diggy counted, Diggy sat on the other side and ate the hollow that went to the hole, Diggy was hungry but now Diggy is glad different friend was on this side." A worried look to the split and the lumbering sillouttes inside getting closer. "But now Diggy is not protecting and mean friends are coming!"
"Comply means agree." Liam told the hulking beast, already a hint of exasperation creeping into his voice. How wonderful, he had found one capable of speech. The only downside was that it seemed to be a bit more dim than most of its kind. But at the very least he was a docile one. Willing to stay and chat instead of simply attempting to attack Liam. Hell, it even called him a friend. So at the very least it wasn't psychotic.
64 four feedings huh? Judging from how the creature was now worried about others rapidly approaching from the other side of the hole. It wouldn't be hard to estimate that the rift had been open for about an hour now. That simply begged the question as to what on earth was taking the local Ghost Police so long when it came to patching it up. "I'll deal with any unwanted guests." There was no sign of arrogance or excitement for an upcoming fight. Considering that a Hollow much weaker than himself had been using it as a feeding ground and had been mostly unharmed. All he would really have to do is dial back the power a little bit.
With one hand, his bow was drawn again and aimed at the portal, not even looking at it, his eyes were fixed on the larger Hollow. "Tell me one more thing then. Do you feel any different since you've come through the portal?
Before Diggy would get a chance to answer, the tip of Liam's bow would glow before exploding outwards into hundreds of tiny arrows of compressed Reishi. All of them reduced in power to not outright kill any Hollows. But it would certainly severely wound any Hollows that might be creeping in on the other side.
Diggy's jaw dropped in awe and horror. On one hand, the different friend was strong, his attack just now did wound a lot of mean friends and stop thier approach. On the other hand, he had just wounded them, and so they sat there in pain, misery, in torment and bleeding which was just mean of different friend. He had no doubt the different friend had just been trying to help but he was sure there must have been a better way than that.
He moved quickly past these thoughts, different friend could turn on him at any time and he was scared of that. "D-different?" his eyes never left the wounded hollows. "Different..." now that different friend mentioned it, he did feel a bit different. But it was a wierd different. A different that he would find it hard to describe. "Yes, um. Like my power is waiting under the surface of my skin" he raised a large claw. "It wants to get out but I think I know how and its not a nice thing to do." he frowned at the claw then held it out to the different friend as if to back up what he was saying.
